Overview

3D shape generation studies how to create complete, useful 3D objects and scenes, supporting tasks from design and animation to medical modeling and robotics. Common approaches include diffusion and flow-matching models, autoregressive token generators, and neural representations of point clouds, voxels, meshes, implicit surfaces, or CAD geometry. Models may be conditioned on text, images, multiple views, partial shapes, or part layouts, and are evaluated on benchmarks such as ShapeNet, ModelNet, and Objaverse for fidelity, diversity, and alignment. A central challenge is balancing visual quality and fast generation with geometric validity, coherent parts, controllability, and reliable completion from sparse or conflicting inputs.

SHARC: Reference point driven Spherical Harmonic Representation for Complex Shapes

We propose SHARC, a novel framework that synthesizes arbitrary, genus-agnostic shapes by means of a collection of Spherical Harmonic (SH) representations of distance fields. These distance fields are anchored at optimally placed reference points in the interior volume of the surface in a way that maximizes learning of the finer details of the surface. To achieve this, we employ a cost function that jointly maximizes sparsity and centrality in terms of positioning, as well as visibility of the surface from their location. For each selected reference point, we sample the visible distance field to the surface geometry via ray-casting and compute the SH coefficients using the Fast Spherical Harmonic Transform (FSHT). To enhance geometric fidelity, we apply a configurable low-pass filter to the coefficients and refine the output using a local consistency constraint based on proximity. Evaluation of SHARC against state-of-the-art methods demonstrates that the proposed method outperforms existing approaches in both reconstruction accuracy and time efficiency without sacrificing model parsimony. LDDMM stochastic interpolants: an application to domain uncertainty quantification in hemodynamics

We introduce a novel conditional stochastic interpolant framework for generative modeling of three-dimensional shapes. The method builds on a recent LDDMM-based registration approach to learn the conditional drift between geometries. By leveraging the resulting pull-back and push-forward operators, we extend this formulation beyond standard Cartesian grids to complex shapes and random variables defined on distinct domains. We present an application in the context of cardiovascular simulations, where aortic shapes are generated from an initial cohort of patients. The conditioning variable is a latent geometric representation defined by a set of centerline points and the radii of the corresponding inscribed spheres. This methodology facilitates both data augmentation for three-dimensional biomedical shapes, and the generation of random perturbations of controlled magnitude for a given shape. These capabilities are essential for quantifying the impact of domain uncertainties arising from medical image segmentation on the estimation of relevant biomarkers.

From Part to Whole: 3D Generative World Model with an Adaptive Structural Hierarchy

Single-image 3D generation lies at the core of vision-to-graphics models in the real world. However, it remains a fundamental challenge to achieve reliable generalization across diverse semantic categories and highly variable structural complexity under sparse supervision. Existing approaches typically model objects in a monolithic manner or rely on a fixed number of parts, including recent part-aware models such as PartCrafter, which still require a labor-intensive user-specified part count. Such designs easily lead to overfitting, fragmented or missing structural components, and limited compositional generalization when encountering novel object layouts. To this end, this paper rethinks single-image 3D generation as learning an adaptive part-whole hierarchy in the flexible 3D latent space. We present a novel part-to-whole 3D generative world model that autonomously discovers latent structural slots by inferring soft and compositional masks directly from image tokens. Specifically, an adaptive slot-gating mechanism dynamically determines the slot-wise activation probabilities and smoothly consolidates redundant slots within different objects, ensuring that the emergent structure remains compact yet expressive across categories. Each distilled slot is then aligned to a learnable, class-agnostic prototype bank, enabling powerful cross-category shape sharing and denoising through universal geometric prototypes in the real world. Furthermore, a lightweight 3D denoiser is introduced to reconstruct geometry and appearance via unified diffusion objectives. Experiments show consistent gains in cross-category transfer and part-count extrapolation, and ablations confirm complementary benefits of the prototype bank for shape-prior sharing as well as slot-gating for structural adaptation.

Text-Image Conditioned 3D Generation

High-quality 3D assets are essential for VR/AR, industrial design, and entertainment, motivating growing interest in generative models that create 3D content from user prompts. Most existing 3D generators, however, rely on a single conditioning modality: image-conditioned models achieve high visual fidelity by exploiting pixel-aligned cues but suffer from viewpoint bias when the input view is limited or ambiguous, while text-conditioned models provide broad semantic guidance yet lack low-level visual detail. This limits how users can express intent and raises a natural question: can these two modalities be combined for more flexible and faithful 3D generation? Our diagnostic study shows that even simple late fusion of text- and image-conditioned predictions outperforms single-modality models, revealing strong cross-modal complementarity. We therefore formalize Text-Image Conditioned 3D Generation, which requires joint reasoning over a visual exemplar and a textual specification. To address this task, we introduce TIGON, a minimalist dual-branch baseline with separate image- and text-conditioned backbones and lightweight cross-modal fusion. Extensive experiments show that text-image conditioning consistently improves over single-modality methods, highlighting complementary vision-language guidance as a promising direction for future 3D generation research. DreamPartGen: Semantically Grounded Part-Level 3D Generation via Collaborative Latent Denoising

Understanding and generating 3D objects as compositions of meaningful parts is fundamental to human perception and reasoning. However, most text-to-3D methods overlook the semantic and functional structure of parts. While recent part-aware approaches introduce decomposition, they remain largely geometry-focused, lacking semantic grounding and failing to model how parts align with textual descriptions or their inter-part relations. We propose DreamPartGen, a framework for semantically grounded, part-aware text-to-3D generation. DreamPartGen introduces Duplex Part Latents (DPLs) that jointly model each part's geometry and appearance, and Relational Semantic Latents (RSLs) that capture inter-part dependencies derived from language. A synchronized co-denoising process enforces mutual geometric and semantic consistency, enabling coherent, interpretable, and text-aligned 3D synthesis. Across multiple benchmarks, DreamPartGen delivers state-of-the-art performance in geometric fidelity and text-shape alignment.

Points-to-3D: Structure-Aware 3D Generation with Point Cloud Priors

Recent progress in 3D generation has been driven largely by models conditioned on images or text, while readily available 3D priors are still underused. In many real-world scenarios, the visible-region point cloud are easy to obtain from active sensors such as LiDAR or from feed-forward predictors like VGGT, offering explicit geometric constraints that current methods fail to exploit. In this work, we introduce Points-to-3D, a diffusion-based framework that leverages point cloud priors for geometry-controllable 3D asset and scene generation. Built on a latent 3D diffusion model TRELLIS, Points-to-3D first replaces pure-noise sparse structure latent initialization with a point cloud priors tailored input formulation.A structure inpainting network, trained within the TRELLIS framework on task-specific data designed to learn global structural inpainting, is then used for inference with a staged sampling strategy (structural inpainting followed by boundary refinement), completing the global geometry while preserving the visible regions of the input priors. In practice, Points-to-3D can take either accurate point-cloud priors or VGGT-estimated point clouds from single images as input. Experiments on both objects and scene scenarios consistently demonstrate superior performance over state-of-the-art baselines in terms of rendering quality and geometric fidelity, highlighting the effectiveness of explicitly embedding point-cloud priors for achieving more accurate and structurally controllable 3D generation. LoST: Level of Semantics Tokenization for 3D Shapes

Tokenization is a fundamental technique in the generative modeling of various modalities. In particular, it plays a critical role in autoregressive (AR) models, which have recently emerged as a compelling option for 3D generation. However, optimal tokenization of 3D shapes remains an open question. State-of-the-art (SOTA) methods primarily rely on geometric level-of-detail (LoD) hierarchies, originally designed for rendering and compression. These spatial hierarchies are often token-inefficient and lack semantic coherence for AR modeling. We propose Level-of-Semantics Tokenization (LoST), which orders tokens by semantic salience, such that early prefixes decode into complete, plausible shapes that possess principal semantics, while subsequent tokens refine instance-specific geometric and semantic details. To train LoST, we introduce Relational Inter-Distance Alignment (RIDA), a novel 3D semantic alignment loss that aligns the relational structure of the 3D shape latent space with that of the semantic DINO feature space. Experiments show that LoST achieves SOTA reconstruction, surpassing previous LoD-based 3D shape tokenizers by large margins on both geometric and semantic reconstruction metrics. Moreover, LoST achieves efficient, high-quality AR 3D generation and enables downstream tasks like semantic retrieval, while using only 0.1%-10% of the tokens needed by prior AR models.

Interact3D: Compositional 3D Generation of Interactive Objects

Recent breakthroughs in 3D generation have enabled the synthesis of high-fidelity individual assets. However, generating 3D compositional objects from single images--particularly under occlusions--remains challenging. Existing methods often degrade geometric details in hidden regions and fail to preserve the underlying object-object spatial relationships (OOR). We present a novel framework Interact3D designed to generate physically plausible interacting 3D compositional objects. Our approach first leverages advanced generative priors to curate high-quality individual assets with a unified 3D guidance scene. To physically compose these assets, we then introduce a robust two-stage composition pipeline. Based on the 3D guidance scene, the primary object is anchored through precise global-to-local geometric alignment (registration), while subsequent geometries are integrated using a differentiable Signed Distance Field (SDF)-based optimization that explicitly penalizes geometry intersections. To reduce challenging collisions, we further deploy a closed-loop, agentic refinement strategy. A Vision-Language Model (VLM) autonomously analyzes multi-view renderings of the composed scene, formulates targeted corrective prompts, and guides an image editing module to iteratively self-correct the generation pipeline. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Interact3D successfully produces promising collsion-aware compositions with improved geometric fidelity and consistent spatial relationships.

SK-Adapter: Skeleton-Based Structural Control for Native 3D Generation

Native 3D generative models have achieved remarkable fidelity and speed, yet they suffer from a critical limitation: inability to prescribe precise structural articulations, where precise structural control within the native 3D space remains underexplored. This paper proposes SK-Adapter, a simple yet efficient and effective framework that unlocks precise skeletal manipulation for native 3D generation. Moving beyond text or image prompts, which can be ambiguous for precise structure, we treat the 3D skeleton as a first-class control signal. SK-Adapter is a lightweight structural adapter network that encodes joint coordinates and topology into learnable tokens, which are injected into the frozen 3D generation backbone via cross-attention. This design allows the model to not only effectively ``attend'' to specific 3D structural constraints but also preserve its original generative priors. To bridge the data gap, we contribute the Objaverse-TMS dataset, a large-scale dataset of 24k text-mesh-skeleton pairs. Extensive experiments confirm that our method achieves robust structural control while preserving the geometry and texture quality of the foundation model, significantly outperforming existing baselines. Furthermore, we extend this capability to local 3D editing, enabling region-specific editing of existing assets with skeletal guidance, which is unattainable by previous methods. EI-Part: Explode for Completion and Implode for Refinement

Part-level 3D generation is crucial for various downstream applications, including gaming, film production, and industrial design. However, decomposing a 3D shape into geometrically plausible and meaningful components remains a significant challenge. Previous part-based generation methods often struggle to produce well-constructed parts, exhibiting poor structural coherence, geometric implausibility, inaccuracy, or inefficiency. To address these challenges, we introduce EI-Part, a novel framework specifically designed to generate high-quality 3D shapes with components, characterized by strong structural coherence, geometric plausibility, geometric fidelity, and generation efficiency. We propose utilizing distinct representations at different stages: an Explode state for part completion and an Implode state for geometry refinement. This strategy fully leverages spatial resolution, enabling flexible part completion and fine geometric detail generation. To maintain structural coherence between parts, a self-attention mechanism is incorporated in both exploded and imploded states, facilitating effective information perception and feature fusion among components during generation. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmarks demonstrate that EI-Part efficiently produces semantically meaningful and structurally coherent parts with fine-grained geometric details, achieving state-of-the-art performance in part-level 3D generation. MV-SAM3D: Adaptive Multi-View Fusion for Layout-Aware 3D Generation

Recent unified 3D generation models have made remarkable progress in producing high-quality 3D assets from a single image. Notably, layout-aware approaches such as SAM3D can reconstruct multiple objects while preserving their spatial arrangement, opening the door to practical scene-level 3D generation. However, current methods are limited to single-view input and cannot leverage complementary multi-view observations, while independently estimated object poses often lead to physically implausible layouts such as interpenetration and floating artifacts. We present MV-SAM3D, a training-free framework that extends layout-aware 3D generation with multi-view consistency and physical plausibility. We formulate multi-view fusion as a Multi-Diffusion process in 3D latent space and propose two adaptive weighting strategies -- attention-entropy weighting and visibility weighting -- that enable confidence-aware fusion, ensuring each viewpoint contributes according to its local observation reliability. For multi-object composition, we introduce physics-aware optimization that injects collision and contact constraints both during and after generation, yielding physically plausible object arrangements. Experiments on standard benchmarks and real-world multi-object scenes demonstrate significant improvements in reconstruction fidelity and layout plausibility, all without any additional training. High-Fidelity Medical Shape Generation via Skeletal Latent Diffusion

Anatomy shape modeling is a fundamental problem in medical data analysis. However, the geometric complexity and topological variability of anatomical structures pose significant challenges to accurate anatomical shape generation. In this work, we propose a skeletal latent diffusion framework that explicitly incorporates structural priors for efficient and high-fidelity medical shape generation. We introduce a shape auto-encoder in which the encoder captures global geometric information through a differentiable skeletonization module and aggregates local surface features into shape latents, while the decoder predicts the corresponding implicit fields over sparsely sampled coordinates. New shapes are generated via a latent-space diffusion model, followed by neural implicit decoding and mesh extraction. To address the limited availability of medical shape data, we construct a large-scale dataset, MedSDF, comprising surface point clouds and corresponding signed distance fields across multiple anatomical categories. Extensive experiments on MedSDF and vessel datasets demonstrate that the proposed method achieves superior reconstruction and generation quality while maintaining a higher computational efficiency compared with existing approaches. CRAG: Can 3D Generative Models Help 3D Assembly?

Most existing 3D assembly methods treat the problem as pure pose estimation, rearranging observed parts via rigid transformations. In contrast, human assembly naturally couples structural reasoning with holistic shape inference. Inspired by this intuition, we reformulate 3D assembly as a joint problem of assembly and generation. We show that these two processes are mutually reinforcing: assembly provides part-level structural priors for generation, while generation injects holistic shape context that resolves ambiguities in assembly. Unlike prior methods that cannot synthesize missing geometry, we propose CRAG, which simultaneously generates plausible complete shapes and predicts poses for input parts. Extensive experiments demonstrate state-of-the-art performance across in-the-wild objects with diverse geometries, varying part counts, and missing pieces. Project Page: https://ai4ce.github.io/CRAG/

BoxSplitGen: A Generative Model for 3D Part Bounding Boxes in Varying Granularity

Human creativity follows a perceptual process, moving from abstract ideas to finer details during creation. While 3D generative models have advanced dramatically, models specifically designed to assist human imagination in 3D creation -- particularly for detailing abstractions from coarse to fine -- have not been explored. We propose a framework that enables intuitive and interactive 3D shape generation by iteratively splitting bounding boxes to refine the set of bounding boxes. The main technical components of our framework are two generative models: the box-splitting generative model and the box-to-shape generative model. The first model, named BoxSplitGen, generates a collection of 3D part bounding boxes with varying granularity by iteratively splitting coarse bounding boxes. It utilizes part bounding boxes created through agglomerative merging and learns the reverse of the merging process -- the splitting sequences. The model consists of two main components: the first learns the categorical distribution of the box to be split, and the second learns the distribution of the two new boxes, given the set of boxes and the indication of which box to split. The second model, the box-to-shape generative model, is trained by leveraging the 3D shape priors learned by an existing 3D diffusion model while adapting the model to incorporate bounding box conditioning. In our experiments, we demonstrate that the box-splitting generative model outperforms token prediction models and the inpainting approach with an unconditional diffusion model. Also, we show that our box-to-shape model, based on a state-of-the-art 3D diffusion model, provides superior results compared to a previous model.

CoMa: Contextual Massing Generation with Vision-Language Models

Context-aware building massing is an important early-stage design task: given a site for buildings, a generated massing should not only fit the target parcel, but also relate to the scale, density, and morphology of its surrounding urban fabric. This task is naturally multimodal, since the target output should remain structured and editable, while the surrounding context, including other buildings or roads, can be represented as vector geometry, map imagery, or three-dimensional views. In this paper, we study contextual massing generation using vision-language models (VLMs) and analyze their performance on this task across different context modalities during training and inference. We assemble an experimental dataset of 12,845 Melbourne massings with parcel contours, structured 3D geometry, neighboring buildings, top-down views, and multi-view 3D context images. We also introduce a learned contextual relevance metric for evaluating whether generated massings are morphologically compatible with their surrounding context. Using Qwen3-VL models, we compare no-context, unimodal-context, and multimodal-context training regimes and evaluate inference performance under controlled combinations of modalities and amounts of context. The results show that model size strongly affects generation quality, multimodal training improves the use of individual modalities, and multimodal inference provides a stronger contextual signal than isolated context inputs.

GENA3D: Generative Amodal 3D Modeling by Bridging 2D Priors and 3D Coherence

Generating complete 3D objects under partial occlusions (i.e., amodal scenarios) is a practically important yet challenging problem, as large portions of object geometry are unobserved in real-world scenarios. Existing approaches either operate directly in 3D, which ensures geometric consistency but often lacks generative expressiveness, or rely on 2D amodal completion, which provides strong appearance priors but does not guarantee reliable 3D structure. This raises a key question: how can we achieve both generative plausibility and geometric coherence in amodal 3D modeling? To answer this question, we introduce GENA3D (GENarative Amodal 3D), a framework that integrates learned 2D generative priors with explicit 3D geometric reasoning within a conditional 3D generation paradigm. The 2D priors enable the model to plausibly infer diverse occluded content, while the 3D representation enforces multi-view consistency and spatial validity. Our design incorporates a novel View-Wise Cross-Attention for multi-view alignment and a Stereo-Conditioned Cross-Attention to anchor generative predictions in 3D relationships. By combining generative imagination with structural constraints, GENA3D generates complete and coherent 3D objects from limited observations without sacrificing geometric fidelity. Experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms existing approaches in both synthetic and real-world amodal scenarios, highlighting the effectiveness of bridging 2D priors and 3D coherence in generating plausible and geometrically consistent 3D structures in complex environments.
