Overview

Multimodal generation studies models that create outputs such as images, video, speech, motion, or scientific signals from text, media, or combinations of them. Common approaches include diffusion and flow-matching decoders, autoregressive or discrete-token models, shared latent spaces, and systems that connect vision-language models to modality-specific generators; planning and reinforcement learning can add control for complex or interleaved outputs. A major direction is building models that both understand and generate, with benchmarks measuring prompt adherence, fidelity, temporal and cross-modal coherence, and task-specific validity. An open challenge is enabling shared models to turn understanding into faithful, controllable generation without modality imbalance or loss of specialized quality, especially over long sequences and varied real-world inputs.

MER-Bench: A Comprehensive Benchmark for Multimodal Meme Reappraisal

Memes represent a tightly coupled, multimodal form of social expression, in which visual context and overlaid text jointly convey nuanced affect and commentary. Inspired by cognitive reappraisal in psychology, we introduce Meme Reappraisal, a novel multimodal generation task that aims to transform negatively framed memes into constructive ones while preserving their underlying scenario, entities, and structural layout. Unlike prior works on meme understanding or generation, Meme Reappraisal requires emotion-controllable, structure-preserving multimodal transformation under multiple semantic and stylistic constraints. To support this task, we construct MER-Bench, a benchmark of real-world memes with fine-grained multimodal annotations, including source and target emotions, positively rewritten meme text, visual editing specifications, and taxonomy labels covering visual type, sentiment polarity, and layout structure. We further propose a structured evaluation framework based on a multimodal large language model (MLLM)-as-a-Judge paradigm, decomposing performance into modality-level generation quality, affect controllability, structural fidelity, and global affective alignment. Extensive experiments across representative image-editing and multimodal-generation systems reveal substantial gaps in satisfying the constraints of structural preservation, semantic consistency, and affective transformation. We believe MER-Bench establishes a foundation for research on controllable meme editing and emotion-aware multimodal generation. Our code is available at: https://github.com/one-seven17/MER-Bench.

Cheers: Decoupling Patch Details from Semantic Representations Enables Unified Multimodal Comprehension and Generation

A recent cutting-edge topic in multimodal modeling is to unify visual comprehension and generation within a single model. However, the two tasks demand mismatched decoding regimes and visual representations, making it non-trivial to jointly optimize within a shared feature space. In this work, we present Cheers, a unified multimodal model that decouples patch-level details from semantic representations, thereby stabilizing semantics for multimodal understanding and improving fidelity for image generation via gated detail residuals. Cheers includes three key components: (i) a unified vision tokenizer that encodes and compresses image latent states into semantic tokens for efficient LLM conditioning, (ii) an LLM-based Transformer that unifies autoregressive decoding for text generation and diffusion decoding for image generation, and (iii) a cascaded flow matching head that decodes visual semantics first and then injects semantically gated detail residuals from the vision tokenizer to refine high-frequency content. Experiments on popular benchmarks demonstrate that Cheers matches or surpasses advanced UMMs in both visual understanding and generation. Cheers also achieves 4x token compression, enabling more efficient high-resolution image encoding and generation. Notably, Cheers outperforms the Tar-1.5B on the popular benchmarks GenEval and MMBench, while requiring only 20% of the training cost, indicating effective and efficient (i.e., 4x token compression) unified multimodal modeling. We will release all code and data for future research.

MoKus: Leveraging Cross-Modal Knowledge Transfer for Knowledge-Aware Concept Customization

Concept customization typically binds rare tokens to a target concept. Unfortunately, these approaches often suffer from unstable performance as the pretraining data seldom contains these rare tokens. Meanwhile, these rare tokens fail to convey the inherent knowledge of the target concept. Consequently, we introduce Knowledge-aware Concept Customization, a novel task aiming at binding diverse textual knowledge to target visual concepts. This task requires the model to identify the knowledge within the text prompt to perform high-fidelity customized generation. Meanwhile, the model should efficiently bind all the textual knowledge to the target concept. Therefore, we propose MoKus, a novel framework for knowledge-aware concept customization. Our framework relies on a key observation: cross-modal knowledge transfer, where modifying knowledge within the text modality naturally transfers to the visual modality during generation. Inspired by this observation, MoKus contains two stages: (1) In visual concept learning, we first learn the anchor representation to store the visual information of the target concept. (2) In textual knowledge updating, we update the answer for the knowledge queries to the anchor representation, enabling high-fidelity customized generation. To further comprehensively evaluate our proposed MoKus on the new task, we introduce the first benchmark for knowledge-aware concept customization: KnowCusBench. Extensive evaluations have demonstrated that MoKus outperforms state-of-the-art methods. Moreover, the cross-model knowledge transfer allows MoKus to be easily extended to other knowledge-aware applications like virtual concept creation and concept erasure. We also demonstrate the capability of our method to achieve improvements on world knowledge benchmarks.

Tokenization Allows Multimodal Large Language Models to Understand, Generate and Edit Architectural Floor Plans

Architectural floor plan design demands joint reasoning over geometry, semantics, and spatial hierarchy, which remains a major challenge for current AI systems. Although recent diffusion and language models improve visual fidelity, they still struggle with coherent spatial reasoning and controllable generation. We present HouseMind, a multimodal large language model that unifies floor plan understanding, generation, and editing in one framework. We introduce discrete room-instance tokens to construct a unified vocabulary that bridges layouts and symbolic reasoning. With multimodal alignment and instruction tuning, the model synthesizes coherent, controllable layouts from text instructions. Experiments show how the framework achieves superior geometric validity and controllability while remaining efficient and locally deployable.

UniCom: Unified Multimodal Modeling via Compressed Continuous Semantic Representations

Current unified multimodal models typically rely on discrete visual tokenizers to bridge the modality gap. However, discretization inevitably discards fine-grained semantic information, leading to suboptimal performance in visual understanding tasks. Conversely, directly modeling continuous semantic representations (e.g., CLIP, SigLIP) poses significant challenges in high-dimensional generative modeling, resulting in slow convergence and training instability. To resolve this dilemma, we introduce UniCom, a unified framework that harmonizes multimodal understanding and generation via compressed continuous representation. We empirically demonstrate that reducing channel dimension is significantly more effective than spatial downsampling for both reconstruction and generation. Accordingly, we design an attention-based semantic compressor to distill dense features into a compact unified representation. Furthermore, we validate that the transfusion architecture surpasses query-based designs in convergence and consistency. Experiments demonstrate that UniCom achieves state-of-the-art generation performance among unified models. Notably, by preserving rich semantic priors, it delivers exceptional controllability in image editing and maintains image consistency even without relying on VAE.

InternVL-U: Democratizing Unified Multimodal Models for Understanding, Reasoning, Generation and Editing

Unified multimodal models (UMMs) that integrate understanding, reasoning, generation, and editing face inherent trade-offs between maintaining strong semantic comprehension and acquiring powerful generation capabilities. In this report, we present InternVL-U, a lightweight 4B-parameter UMM that democratizes these capabilities within a unified framework. Guided by the principles of unified contextual modeling and modality-specific modular design with decoupled visual representations, InternVL-U integrates a state-of-the-art Multimodal Large Language Model (MLLM) with a specialized MMDiT-based visual generation head. To further bridge the gap between aesthetic generation and high-level intelligence, we construct a comprehensive data synthesis pipeline targeting high-semantic-density tasks, such as text rendering and scientific reasoning, under a reasoning-centric paradigm that leverages Chain-of-Thought (CoT) to better align abstract user intent with fine-grained visual generation details. Extensive experiments demonstrate that InternVL-U achieves a superior performance - efficiency balance. Despite using only 4B parameters, it consistently outperforms unified baseline models with over 3x larger scales such as BAGEL (14B) on various generation and editing tasks, while retaining strong multimodal understanding and reasoning capabilities.

Towards Unified Multimodal Interleaved Generation via Group Relative Policy Optimization

Unified vision-language models have made significant progress in multimodal understanding and generation, yet they largely fall short in producing multimodal interleaved outputs, which is a crucial capability for tasks like visual storytelling and step-by-step visual reasoning. In this work, we propose a reinforcement learning-based post-training strategy to unlock this capability in existing unified models, without relying on large-scale multimodal interleaved datasets. We begin with a warm-up stage using a hybrid dataset comprising curated interleaved sequences and limited data for multimodal understanding and text-to-image generation, which exposes the model to interleaved generation patterns while preserving its pretrained capabilities. To further refine interleaved generation, we propose a unified policy optimization framework that extends Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) to the multimodal setting. Our approach jointly models text and image generation within a single decoding trajectory and optimizes it with our novel hybrid rewards covering textual relevance, visual-text alignment, and structural fidelity. Additionally, we incorporate process-level rewards to provide step-wise guidance, enhancing training efficiency in complex multimodal tasks. Experiments on MMIE and InterleavedBench demonstrate that our approach significantly enhances the quality and coherence of multimodal interleaved generation.

Dynin-Omni: Omnimodal Unified Large Diffusion Language Model

We present Dynin-Omni, the first masked-diffusion-based omnimodal foundation model that unifies text, image, and speech understanding and generation, together with video understanding, within a single architecture. Unlike autoregressive unified models that serialize heterogeneous modalities, or compositional unified models that require orchestration with external modality-specific decoders, Dynin-Omni natively formulates omnimodal modeling as masked diffusion over a shared discrete token space, enabling iterative refinement under bidirectional context. Dynin-Omni adopts a multi-stage training strategy with model-merging-based modality expansion and omnimodal alignment. We evaluate Dynin-Omni across 19 multimodal benchmarks spanning language reasoning, image generation and editing, video understanding, and speech recognition and synthesis. Dynin-Omni achieves 87.6 on GSM8K, 1733.6 on MME-P, 61.4 on VideoMME, 0.87 on GenEval, and 2.1 WER on LibriSpeech test-clean, consistently outperforming existing open-source unified models while remaining competitive with strong modality-specific expert systems. These results demonstrate the potential of masked diffusion as a unified paradigm for any-to-any modeling, providing a flexible foundation for real-time omnimodal systems, unified cross-modal retrieval and generation, and embodied multimodal agents.

How Long Can Unified Multimodal Models Generate Images Reliably? Taming Long-Horizon Interleaved Image Generation via Context Curation

Unified multimodal models hold the promise of generating extensive, interleaved narratives, weaving text and imagery into coherent long-form stories. However, current systems suffer from a critical reliability gap: as sequences grow, generation quality rapidly collapses. In this work, we investigate the mechanism behind this failure and argue that it is distinct from standard long-context challenges. We reveal that in generation, accumulated visual history acts as a source of active pollution, a decay governed specifically by the number of image events rather than raw token count. We identify a structural vulnerability where dense visual tokens overwhelm the attention mechanism, creating noise that distorts future synthesis. Guided by these mechanistic insights, we propose UniLongGen, a training-free inference strategy that prioritizes safe conditioning over total recall. Instead of retaining all history, UniLongGen dynamically curates the model's memory, identifying and discarding interfering visual signals based on the model's own internal relevance rankings. Extensive experiments demonstrate that this active forgetting approach is essential for stability: UniLongGen significantly outperforms baselines in long-horizon fidelity and consistency, while simultaneously reducing memory footprint and inference time.

Omni-Diffusion: Unified Multimodal Understanding and Generation with Masked Discrete Diffusion

While recent multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have made impressive strides, they predominantly employ a conventional autoregressive architecture as their backbone, leaving significant room to explore effective and efficient alternatives in architectural design. Concurrently, recent studies have successfully applied discrete diffusion models to various domains, such as visual understanding and image generation, revealing their considerable potential as a promising backbone for multimodal systems. Drawing inspiration from these pioneering studies, we introduce Omni-Diffusion, the first any-to-any multimodal language model built entirely on mask-based discrete diffusion models, which unifies understanding and generation across text, speech, and images. Omni-Diffusion employs a unified mask-based discrete diffusion model to directly capture the joint distribution over discrete multimodal tokens. This approach supports not only bimodal tasks but also more complex scenarios involving multiple modalities. On a diverse set of benchmarks, our method outperforms or performs on par with existing multimodal systems that process two or more modalities, highlighting the significant promise of diffusion models in powering the next generation of multimodal foundation models. Self-Supervised Flow Matching for Scalable Multi-Modal Synthesis

Strong semantic representations improve the convergence and generation quality of diffusion and flow models. Existing approaches largely rely on external models, which require separate training, operate on misaligned objectives, and exhibit unexpected scaling behavior. We argue that this dependence arises from the model's training objective, which poses a denoising task with little incentive to learn semantic representations. We introduce Self-Flow: a self-supervised flow matching paradigm that integrates representation learning within the generative framework. Our key mechanism, Dual-Timestep Scheduling, applies heterogeneous noise levels across tokens, creating an information asymmetry that forces the model to infer missing information from corrupted inputs. This drives learning strong representations alongside generative capabilities without external supervision. Our method generalizes across modalities and enables multi-modal training while following expected scaling laws, achieving superior image, video, and audio generation.

Cut to the Chase: Training-free Multimodal Summarization via Chain-of-Events

Multimodal Summarization (MMS) aims to generate concise textual summaries by understanding and integrating information across videos, transcripts, and images. However, existing approaches still suffer from three main challenges: (1) reliance on domain-specific supervision, (2) implicit fusion with weak cross-modal grounding, and (3) flat temporal modeling without event transitions. To address these issues, we introduce CoE, a training-free MMS framework that performs structured reasoning through a Chain-of-Events guided by a Hierarchical Event Graph (HEG). The HEG encodes textual semantics into an explicit event hierarchy that scaffolds cross-modal grounding and temporal reasoning. Guided by this structure, CoE localizes key visual cues, models event evolution and causal transitions, and refines outputs via lightweight style adaptation for domain alignment. Extensive experiments on eight diverse datasets demonstrate that CoE consistently outperforms state-of-the-art video CoT baselines, achieving average gains of +3.04 ROUGE, +9.51 CIDEr, and +1.88 BERTScore, highlighting its robustness, interpretability, and cross-domain generalization. Our code is available at https://github.com/youxiaoxing/CoE.

StreamWise: Serving Multi-Modal Generation in Real-Time at Scale

Advances in multi-modal generative models are enabling new applications, from storytelling to automated media synthesis. Most current workloads generate simple outputs (e.g., image generation from a prompt) in batch mode, often requiring several seconds even for basic results. Serving real-time multi-modal workflows at scale is costly and complex, requiring efficient coordination of diverse models (each with unique resource needs) across language, audio, image, and video, all under strict latency and resource constraints. We tackle these challenges through the lens of real-time podcast video generation, integrating LLMs, text-to-speech, and video-audio generation. To meet tight SLOs, we design an adaptive, modular serving system, StreamWise, that dynamically manages quality (e.g., resolution, sharpness), model/content parallelism, and resource-aware scheduling. We leverage heterogeneous hardware to maximize responsiveness and efficiency. For example, the system can lower video resolution and allocate more resources to early scenes. We quantify the trade-offs between latency, cost, and quality. The cheapest setup generates a 10-minute podcast video on A100 GPUs in 1.4 hours (8.4x slower than the real-time) for less than $25. StreamWise enables high-quality real-time streaming with a sub-second startup delay under $45.

UniM: A Unified Any-to-Any Interleaved Multimodal Benchmark

In real-world multimodal applications, systems usually need to comprehend arbitrarily combined and interleaved multimodal inputs from users, while also generating outputs in any interleaved multimedia form. This capability defines the goal of any-to-any interleaved multimodal learning under a unified paradigm of understanding and generation, posing new challenges and opportunities for advancing Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs). To foster and benchmark this capability, this paper introduces the UniM benchmark, the first Unified Any-to-Any Interleaved Multimodal dataset. UniM contains 31K high-quality instances across 30 domains and 7 representative modalities: text, image, audio, video, document, code, and 3D, each requiring multiple intertwined reasoning and generation capabilities. We further introduce the UniM Evaluation Suite, which assesses models along three dimensions: Semantic Correctness & Generation Quality, Response Structure Integrity, and Interleaved Coherence. In addition, we propose UniMA, an agentic baseline model equipped with traceable reasoning for structured interleaved generation. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate the difficulty of UniM and highlight key challenges and directions for advancing unified any-to-any multimodal intelligence. OmniLottie: Generating Vector Animations via Parameterized Lottie Tokens

OmniLottie is a versatile framework that generates high quality vector animations from multi-modal instructions. For flexible motion and visual content control, we focus on Lottie, a light weight JSON formatting for both shapes and animation behaviors representation. However, the raw Lottie JSON files contain extensive invariant structural metadata and formatting tokens, posing significant challenges for learning vector animation generation. Therefore, we introduce a well designed Lottie tokenizer that transforms JSON files into structured sequences of commands and parameters representing shapes, animation functions and control parameters. Such tokenizer enables us to build OmniLottie upon pretrained vision language models to follow multi-modal interleaved instructions and generate high quality vector animations. To further advance research in vector animation generation, we curate MMLottie-2M, a large scale dataset of professionally designed vector animations paired with textual and visual annotations. With extensive experiments, we validate that OmniLottie can produce vivid and semantically aligned vector animations that adhere closely to multi modal human instructions.

CoVAE: correlated multimodal generative modeling

Multimodal Variational Autoencoders have emerged as a popular tool to extract effective representations from rich multimodal data. However, such models rely on fusion strategies in latent space that destroy the joint statistical structure of the multimodal data, with profound implications for generation and uncertainty quantification. In this work, we introduce Correlated Variational Autoencoders (CoVAE), a new generative architecture that captures the correlations between modalities. We test CoVAE on a number of real and synthetic data sets demonstrating both accurate cross-modal reconstruction and effective quantification of the associated uncertainties.

LLaDA-o: An Effective and Length-Adaptive Omni Diffusion Model

We present LLaDA-o, an effective and length-adaptive omni diffusion model for multimodal understanding and generation. LLaDA-o is built on a Mixture of Diffusion (MoD) framework that decouples discrete masked diffusion for text understanding and continuous diffusion for visual generation, while coupling them through a shared, simple, and efficient attention backbone that reduces redundant computation for fixed conditions. Building on MoD, we further introduce a data-centric length adaptation strategy that enables flexible-length decoding in multimodal settings without architectural changes. Extensive experiments show that LLaDA-o achieves state-of-the-art performance among omni-diffusion models on multimodal understanding and generation benchmarks, and reaches 87.04 on DPG-Bench for text-to-image generation, supporting the effectiveness of unified omni diffusion modeling. Can Unified Generation and Understanding Models Maintain Semantic Equivalence Across Different Output Modalities?

Unified Multimodal Large Language Models (U-MLLMs) integrate understanding and generation within a single architecture. However, existing evaluations typically assess these capabilities separately, overlooking semantic equivalence, i.e., the ability to manifest consistent reasoning results regardless of the output modality. In this work, we investigate whether current U-MLLMs satisfy this premise. We observe that while models demonstrate robust textual reasoning, they fail to maintain semantic equivalence when required to render the same results in the image modality. To rigorously diagnose this discrepancy, we introduce VGUBench, a framework to decouple reasoning logic from generation fidelity. VGUBench comprises three diagnostic tasks: (1)Textual Generative Understanding, establishing a baseline for reasoning accuracy in textual response; (2)Visual Generative Understanding, evaluating the ability to generate visual responses that represent the correct answer; and (3)a Visual Rendering control task, which assesses the ability to directly render explicit visual descriptions into images without complex reasoning. Our evaluation reveals a significant disparity: despite strong performance in textual understanding and visual rendering, U-MLLMs exhibit a marked performance collapse when required to generate visual answers to questions. Furthermore, we find a negligible correlation between visual answering performance and basic rendering quality. These results suggest that the failure stems not from insufficient generation fidelity, but from a breakdown in cross-modal semantic alignment. We provide diagnostic insights to address this challenge in future Unified Generation and Understanding Models.

TabDLM: Free-Form Tabular Data Generation via Joint Numerical-Language Diffusion

Synthetic tabular data generation has attracted growing attention due to its importance for data augmentation, foundation models, and privacy. However, real-world tabular datasets increasingly contain free-form text fields (e.g., reviews or clinical notes) alongside structured numerical and categorical attributes. Generating such heterogeneous tables with joint modeling of different modalities remains challenging. Existing approaches broadly fall into two categories: diffusion-based methods and LLM-based methods. Diffusion models can capture complex dependencies over numerical and categorical features in continuous or discrete spaces, but extending them to open-ended text is nontrivial and often leads to degraded text quality. In contrast, LLM-based generators naturally produce fluent text, yet their discrete tokenization can distort precise or wide-range numerical values, hindering accurate modeling of both numbers and language. In this work, we propose TabDLM, a unified framework for free-form tabular data generation via a joint numerical-language diffusion model built on masked diffusion language models (MDLMs). TabDLM models textual and categorical features through masked diffusion, while modeling numerical features with a continuous diffusion process through learned specialized numeric tokens embedding; bidirectional attention then captures cross-modality interactions within a single model. Extensive experiments on diverse benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of TabDLM compared to strong diffusion- and LLM-based baselines.

Synergizing Understanding and Generation with Interleaved Analyzing-Drafting Thinking

Unified Vision-Language Models (UVLMs) aim to advance multimodal learning by supporting both understanding and generation within a single framework. However, existing approaches largely focus on architectural unification while overlooking the need for explicit interaction between the two capabilities during task solving. As a result, current models treat understanding and generation as parallel skills rather than synergistic processes. To achieve real synergy, we introduce the interleaved Analyzing-Drafting problem-solving loop (AD-Loop), a new think paradigm that dynamically alternates between analytic and drafting operations. By interleaving textual thoughts with visual thoughts, AD-Loop enables models to iteratively refine both comprehension and outputs, fostering genuine synergy. To train this mechanism, we design a two-stage strategy: supervised learning on interleaved thought data to initialize alternation, followed by reinforcement learning to promote adaptive and autonomous control. Extensive experiments demonstrate that AD-Loop consistently improves performance across standard benchmarks for both understanding and generation, with strong transferability to various UVLMs architectures. Visual analyses further validate the effectiveness of implicit visual thoughts. These results highlight AD-Loop as a principled and broadly applicable strategy for synergizing comprehension and creation. The project page is at https://sqwu.top/AD-Loop.

Mobile-O: Unified Multimodal Understanding and Generation on Mobile Device

Unified multimodal models can both understand and generate visual content within a single architecture. Existing models, however, remain data-hungry and too heavy for deployment on edge devices. We present Mobile-O, a compact vision-language-diffusion model that brings unified multimodal intelligence to a mobile device. Its core module, the Mobile Conditioning Projector (MCP), fuses vision-language features with a diffusion generator using depthwise-separable convolutions and layerwise alignment. This design enables efficient cross-modal conditioning with minimal computational cost. Trained on only a few million samples and post-trained in a novel quadruplet format (generation prompt, image, question, answer), Mobile-O jointly enhances both visual understanding and generation capabilities. Despite its efficiency, Mobile-O attains competitive or superior performance compared to other unified models, achieving 74% on GenEval and outperforming Show-O and JanusFlow by 5% and 11%, while running 6x and 11x faster, respectively. For visual understanding, Mobile-O surpasses them by 15.3% and 5.1% averaged across seven benchmarks. Running in only ~3s per 512x512 image on an iPhone, Mobile-O establishes the first practical framework for real-time unified multimodal understanding and generation on edge devices. We hope Mobile-O will ease future research in real-time unified multimodal intelligence running entirely on-device with no cloud dependency. Understanding vs. Generation: Navigating Optimization Dilemma in Multimodal Models

Current research in multimodal models faces a key challenge where enhancing generative capabilities often comes at the expense of understanding, and vice versa. We analyzed this trade-off and identify the primary cause might be the potential conflict between generation and understanding, which creates a competitive dynamic within the model. To address this, we propose the Reason-Reflect-Refine (R3) framework. This innovative algorithm re-frames the single-step generation task into a multi-step process of "generate-understand-regenerate". By explicitly leveraging the model's understanding capability during generation, we successfully mitigate the optimization dilemma, achieved stronger generation results and improved understanding ability which are related to the generation process. This offers valuable insights for designing next-generation unified multimodal models. Code is available at https://github.com/sen-ye/R3.

Web-Scale Multimodal Summarization using CLIP-Based Semantic Alignment

We introduce Web-Scale Multimodal Summarization, a lightweight framework for generating summaries by combining retrieved text and image data from web sources. Given a user-defined topic, the system performs parallel web, news, and image searches. Retrieved images are ranked using a fine-tuned CLIP model to measure semantic alignment with topic and text. Optional BLIP captioning enables image-only summaries for stronger multimodal coherence. The pipeline supports features such as adjustable fetch limits, semantic filtering, summary styling, and downloading structured outputs. We expose the system via a Gradio-based API with controllable parameters and preconfigured presets.Evaluation on 500 image-caption pairs with 20:1 contrastive negatives yields a ROC-AUC of 0.9270, an F1-score of 0.6504, and an accuracy of 96.99%, demonstrating strong multimodal alignment. This work provides a configurable, deployable tool for web-scale summarization that integrates language, retrieval, and vision models in a user-extensible pipeline.

LaViDa-R1: Advancing Reasoning for Unified Multimodal Diffusion Language Models

Diffusion language models (dLLMs) recently emerged as a promising alternative to auto-regressive LLMs. The latest works further extended it to multimodal understanding and generation tasks. In this work, we propose LaViDa-R1, a multimodal, general-purpose reasoning dLLM. Unlike existing works that build reasoning dLLMs through task-specific reinforcement learning, LaViDa-R1 incorporates diverse multimodal understanding and generation tasks in a unified manner. In particular, LaViDa-R1 is built with a novel unified post-training framework that seamlessly integrates supervised finetuning (SFT) and multi-task reinforcement learning (RL). It employs several novel training techniques, including answer-forcing, tree search, and complementary likelihood estimation, to enhance effectiveness and scalability. Extensive experiments demonstrate LaViDa-R1's strong performance on a wide range of multimodal tasks, including visual math reasoning, reason-intensive grounding, and image editing.

Ex-Omni: Enabling 3D Facial Animation Generation for Omni-modal Large Language Models

Omni-modal large language models (OLLMs) aim to unify multimodal understanding and generation, yet extending them to jointly produce speech and 3D facial animation remains largely underexplored. A key challenge is the mismatch between the discrete semantic reasoning of LLMs and the dense temporal dynamics required for 3D facial motion. We propose Expressive Omni (Ex-Omni), a framework that augments OLLMs with speech-accompanied 3D facial animation. Ex-Omni decouples semantic reasoning from temporal generation through a speech-unit generator with blendshape co-supervision and a non-autoregressive blendshape decoder, where speech units provide temporal scaffolding and hidden speech representations carry facially relevant cues. We further introduce a token-as-query gated fusion (TQGF) interface for controlled semantic injection, as well as InstructS2SF-1200K, a 1.2M-sample weakly supervised dataset for speech-accompanied facial animation. Extensive experiments show that Ex-Omni retains competitive speech QA capability while natively generating coordinated text, speech, and 3D facial animation, and approaches the Audio2Face-3D teacher cascade in synchronization and human preference.

Uni-RS: A Spatially Faithful Unified Understanding and Generation Model for Remote Sensing

Unified remote sensing multimodal models exhibit a pronounced spatial reversal curse: Although they can accurately recognize and describe object locations in images, they often fail to faithfully execute the same spatial relations during text-to-image generation, where such relations constitute core semantic information in remote sensing. Motivated by this observation, we propose Uni-RS, the first unified multimodal model tailored for remote sensing, to explicitly address the spatial asymmetry between understanding and generation. Specifically, we first introduce explicit Spatial-Layout Planning to transform textual instructions into spatial layout plans, decoupling geometric planning from visual synthesis. We then impose Spatial-Aware Query Supervision to bias learnable queries toward spatial relations explicitly specified in the instruction. Finally, we develop Image-Caption Spatial Layout Variation to expose the model to systematic geometry-consistent spatial transformations. Extensive experiments across multiple benchmarks show that our approach substantially improves spatial faithfulness in text-to-image generation, while maintaining strong performance on multimodal understanding tasks like image captioning, visual grounding, and VQA tasks.

CoMa: Contextual Massing Generation with Vision-Language Models

Context-aware building massing is an important early-stage design task: given a site for buildings, a generated massing should not only fit the target parcel, but also relate to the scale, density, and morphology of its surrounding urban fabric. This task is naturally multimodal, since the target output should remain structured and editable, while the surrounding context, including other buildings or roads, can be represented as vector geometry, map imagery, or three-dimensional views. In this paper, we study contextual massing generation using vision-language models (VLMs) and analyze their performance on this task across different context modalities during training and inference. We assemble an experimental dataset of 12,845 Melbourne massings with parcel contours, structured 3D geometry, neighboring buildings, top-down views, and multi-view 3D context images. We also introduce a learned contextual relevance metric for evaluating whether generated massings are morphologically compatible with their surrounding context. Using Qwen3-VL models, we compare no-context, unimodal-context, and multimodal-context training regimes and evaluate inference performance under controlled combinations of modalities and amounts of context. The results show that model size strongly affects generation quality, multimodal training improves the use of individual modalities, and multimodal inference provides a stronger contextual signal than isolated context inputs.

NMIRacle: Multi-modal Generative Molecular Elucidation from IR and NMR Spectra

Molecular structure elucidation from spectroscopic data is a long-standing challenge in Chemistry, traditionally requiring expert interpretation. We introduce NMIRacle, a two-stage generative framework that builds upon recent paradigms in AI-driven spectroscopy with minimal assumptions. In the first stage, NMIRacle learns to reconstruct molecular structures from count-aware fragment representations, capturing both fragment identities and their occurrences. In the second stage, a spectral encoder maps input spectra (IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR) into a latent embedding used to condition the pre-trained generator, which is fine-tuned for direct spectra-to-molecule generation. This formulation bridges fragment-level chemical modeling with spectral evidence, yielding accurate molecular predictions. Empirical results demonstrate that NMIRacle outperforms existing baselines on molecular elucidation, while maintaining robust performance across increasing levels of molecular complexity.

MedGEN-Bench: A Contextually Entangled Benchmark for Open-ended Multimodal Medical Generation

Medical vision-language models (VLMs) are increasingly expected to support clinical workflows through diagnostic text and relevant medical images. However, current medical visual benchmarks have three recurring limitations: query-image misalignment from queries weakly grounded in specific image instances, closed-ended formats that narrow answer space and encourage shortcut-based prediction, and text-centric output paradigms that limit evaluation of image-generation and image-editing capabilities. We introduce MedGEN-Bench, a benchmark for open-ended multimodal medical generation. The evaluation snapshot reported in this manuscript comprises 6,422 image-text pairs reviewed by clinical experts and models, spanning 6 canonical imaging modalities, 15 clinical tasks, and 27 named subtasks. It includes 1,100 Visual Question Answering (VQA) pairs, 3,872 Image Editing pairs, and 1,450 Contextual Multimodal Generation pairs. MedGEN-Bench centers on contextual entanglement: dependence of an instruction's intended output on the particular image instance rather than on task wording alone. The benchmark operationalizes this concept through image-grounded instructions and extends evaluation to open-ended multimodal outputs. Its tiered evaluation protocol combines reproducible reference-based fidelity and similarity measures with a structured, checklist-guided assessment by a medical VLM judge. We evaluate 10 compositional frameworks, 2 dedicated image-editing models, 3 unified models, and 5 VLMs. The results show image-output tasks remain unsaturated. Contextual augmentation increases mean image-instruction similarity from 0.273 to 0.372, while a 1,000-case medical-expert audit shows moderate agreement between judge scores and clinician ratings. Reconstruction Alignment Improves Unified Multimodal Models

Unified multimodal models (UMMs) unify visual understanding and generation within a single architecture. However, conventional training relies on image-text pairs (or sequences) whose captions are typically sparse and miss fine-grained visual details, even when they use hundreds of words to describe a simple image. We introduce Reconstruction Alignment (RECA), a resource-efficient post-training method that leverages visual understanding encoder embeddings as dense "text prompts", providing rich supervision without captions. Concretely, RECA conditions a UMM on its own visual understanding embeddings and optimizes it to reconstruct the input image with a self-supervised reconstruction loss, thereby realigning understanding and generation. Despite its simplicity, RECA is broadly applicable: across autoregressive, masked-autoregressive, and diffusion-based UMMs, it consistently improves generation and editing fidelity. With only 27 GPU hours, post-training with RECA substantially improves image generation performance on GenEval (0.73 →\rightarrow 0.90) and DPGBench (80.93 →\rightarrow 88.15), while also boosting editing benchmarks (ImgEdit 3.38 →\rightarrow 3.75, GEdit 6.94 →\rightarrow 7.27). Notably, RECA surpasses much larger open-source models and applies broadly across diverse UMM architectures, establishing it as an efficient and general post-training alignment strategy for UMMs.
