Real-world applications require 6D pose estimation to be accurate, fast, and scalable to unseen objects. This paper introduces WAPR, a zero-shot wide-angle pose refinement model that refines candidate poses with rotational deviations up to 90 degrees. With as few as 12 candidate poses per detected object instance, WAPR supports fast inference within 1 s per frame and reaches a pose-estimation throughput of up to 25 detected object instances per second. To support wide-angle training for rotationally symmetric objects, WAPR uses rotational symmetry priors to canonicalize symmetry-equivalent pose targets before loss computation. We further construct SA6D, a large-scale 6D training dataset with such priors. SA6D obtains KASAL-assisted rotational symmetry priors for 944 GSO scans and expands them through geometry and texture augmentation into about 50K augmented object instances and about 2M rendered RGB-D images. In addition, an angle-balanced loss stabilizes learning across different angular ranges by reducing the influence of uninformative large-error cases. Experiments on seven BOP core datasets show that WAPR achieves state-of-the-art performance in unseen-object 6D pose localization and detection under both fast and unconstrained inference settings. KASALv2: Fully Automatic 3D Rotational Symmetry Classification and Axis Localization
Rotational symmetry is an important prior in 6D pose estimation, improving pose accuracy and supporting symmetry-aware evaluation. However, current symmetry annotations for 3D objects remain largely manual or semi-automatic, often requiring predefined types or orders, which limits scalability. This work introduces a fully automatic, reference-free framework for symmetry-type classification, rotational-order identification, and full-axis localization across all eight canonical 3D rotational symmetry types. The method localizes a dominant high-order axis, infers its rotational order through self-consistency analysis, and reconstructs the complete symmetry structure under a hierarchy-guided formulation. A texture-aware extension further models appearance-induced reductions in rotational order while preserving axis orientations. Experiments on idealized and real-world datasets demonstrate strong accuracy and generalization, achieving 94.75% accuracy on 438 symmetric objects in GSO. Training FoundationPose with these priors improves accuracy by up to 0.9% across five BOP datasets, showing that automatically estimated rotational priors improve downstream 6D pose estimation. A Geometry-Driven, Framework-Agnostic Optimization for Object Pose Estimation
Current object pose estimation research remains predominantly model-centric, focusing on architectural innovations and post-processing refinements. This paper introduces a data-centric optimization by proposing a novel, physically grounded rotation representation through principal axes alignment. Our method aligns the object's coordinate system with its inherent geometric axes, derived from inertial properties, yielding three key advantages: Inherent Stability-leveraging the energy-minimizing property of principal axes provides a robust representation that is less sensitive to noise and occlusions; Symmetry-Aware Canonicalization-explicitly resolving rotational ambiguities for symmetric objects at the data level, which fundamentally eliminates label confusion during network training; and Framework Agnosticism-the optimization is applied purely at the dataset level, ensuring plug-and-play compatibility with existing networks without any architectural modification. We validate the framework across diverse category-level and instance-level models. Extensive experiments demonstrate consistent and significant accuracy improvements, while preserving the integrity of the baseline network. This work establishes a new, geometry-driven direction for enhancing pose estimation, circumventing the need for complex network redesign.
CAOA -- Completion-Assisted Object-CAD Alignment
Accurately aligning CAD models to their corresponding objects in indoor RGB-D scans is a central challenge in 3D semantic reconstruction. The task requires estimating a 9-Degree-of-Freedom (DoF) pose-position, rotation, and scale along three axes-but is hindered by noisy and incomplete scans, as well as segmentation errors that cause geometric distortions. We present Completion-Assisted Object-CAD Alignment (CAOA), a method that integrates a semantically and contextually aware point cloud completion module with a symmetry-aware relative pose estimation algorithm, enabling precise alignment of CAD models to scanned objects. Existing completion methods are typically trained and evaluated on synthetic datasets, which often fail to generalize to real-world scans. To bridge this gap, we introduce a synthetic data generation strategy tailored to indoor scenes, significantly reducing the synthetic-to-real domain gap-validated through quantitative comparisons with widely used completion datasets. In addition, we release S2C-Completion, an expert-annotated dataset of over 8,500 object-CAD pairs from Scan2CAD, created for real-world indoor single-object completion and intended as a new benchmark for this task. For object-CAD alignment, we incorporate symmetry information via a symmetry-aware loss, improving robustness to symmetric ambiguities. On the Scan2CAD benchmark, CAOA achieves a 17% accuracy improvement over state-of-the-art methods.
Rotational Symmetry based Object Pose Estimation from Point Clouds in the Absence of Known 3D Models
Object pose estimation is crucial to many industrial applications, with one example being automated spray painting using a robot. However, confidentiality concerns often limit access to high-quality 3D models, posing a significant challenge for point-cloud-based pose estimation. In such scenarios, rotational symmetry, a readily accessible characteristic of many industrial objects, can provide valuable prior information to facilitate pose estimation. In this paper, we propose a method that leverages the rotational symmetry commonly found in industrial objects to address the challenge caused by the absence of 3D models. The object pose is jointly estimated with point cloud refinement through an iterative optimization process. This optimization relies on a rotational symmetry constraint loss. To construct this loss, each 3D point is rotated according to the currently estimated pose, and multiple correspondences are identified using nearest-neighbor search by exploiting the rotational symmetry property. These correspondences are then used to compute the rotational symmetry constraint loss, which iteratively refines both the pose and the point cloud.By explicitly incorporating rotational symmetry into the optimization process, the proposed method achieves robust pose estimation and generalizes well across diverse object types. The proposed method is evaluated on a dataset specifically created for point clouds without known 3D models, consisting of four categories of synthetic objects and one real wheel hub collected from a production line. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves performance comparable to methods that rely on known 3D models.
Symmetry-Aware 9D Pose Estimation with Sim(3)-Consistent Feature and Spherical Inception Convolution
Object pose estimation is a fundamental problem for an agent system to perceive or manipulate objects in images or videos. However, current instance-level methods struggle with generalization to unseen objects. Category-level methods seek to address this, but remain constrained by the complexities of learning in the non-linear Sim(3) space and intra-class variations. To address these challenges, We propose an effective method for category-level object pose estimation with two key innovations: (1) A translation/size estimator, featuring a semantic-guided symmetry-aware module that leverages robust generalization capabilities of a large vision model (LVM) to infer symmetry points, resulting in accurate translation and size without shape priors. This result serves as a precomputed cue for rotation estimation, thereby reducing the difficulty of learning in the non-linear Sim(3) space and laying a robust foundation for tackling the inherently more challenging rotation estimation. (2) A feature fusion module, based on our proposed spherical large-kernel inception convolution, fuses semantic features from the LVM with systematically computed geometric features to extract essential pose features from intra-class variations by modeling long-range dependencies without excessive computational cost. Built on these innovations, we achieve SOTA on benchmarks and real-world scenes, while developing a robust robotic picking system capable of handling diverse objects. Generalizable and Actionable Parts Pose Estimation with Symmetry Annotation-Free Learning Strategy
Urgently needed generalizable robot object interaction and manipulation requires high-quality Cross-Category object perception. As a pioneer of this area, Generalizable and Actionable Parts (GAParts) understanding has attracted increasing attention from relevant researchers. However, most recent works either have insufficient design regarding the symmetry issue or require rich symmetry annotation, which severely impedes precise GAPart pose estimation in data-lacking scenarios. In this paper, we propose SAFAG, a novel Symmetry Annotation-Free framework for Generalizable and Actionable Parts Pose Estimation. Specifically, we suggest a stepwise refinement two-stage framework for candidate-to-final quaternion regression, and tackle the symmetry prediction as a probability distribution problem with self-supervised learning strategy. The experimental results demonstrate the superior performance and robustness of our SAFAG. We believe that our work has the enormous potential to be applied in many areas of embodied AI system.
OneViewAll: Semantic Prior Guided One-View 6D Pose Estimation for Novel Objects
In many practical 6D object pose estimation scenarios, we often have access to only a single real-world RGB-D reference view per object, typically without CAD models. Existing methods largely rely on explicit 3D models or multi-view data, which limits their scalability. To address this challenging single-reference model-free setting, we propose OneViewAll, a semantic-prior-guided framework that performs pose estimation via a novel Project-and-Compare paradigm. Instead of relying on computationally expensive CAD-based rendering, our method directly aligns reference and query observations within a projection-equivariant space. OneViewAll progressively integrates hierarchical semantic priors across three levels: (1) category- and scene-level priors for efficient hypothesis initialization; (2) object-level symmetry priors for geometry completion via mirror fusion; and (3) patch-level priors for discriminative refinement. Extensive experiments demonstrate that OneViewAll achieves 92.5% ADD-0.1 accuracy on the LINEMOD dataset using only one real reference view -- significantly outperforming the CVPR 2025 baseline One2Any (52.6%). It also yields consistent improvements on YCB-V, Real275, and Toyota-Light while maintaining low inference latency. Our results underscore the efficacy of symmetry-aware projection in handling symmetric, texture-less, and occluded objects.
Towards Symmetry-sensitive Pose Estimation: A Rotation Representation for Symmetric Object Classes
Symmetric objects are common in daily life and industry, yet their inherent orientation ambiguities that impede the training of deep learning networks for pose estimation are rarely discussed in the literature. To cope with these ambiguities, existing solutions typically require the design of specific loss functions and network architectures or resort to symmetry-invariant evaluation metrics. In contrast, we focus on the numeric representation of the rotation itself, modifying trigonometric identities with the degrees of symmetry derived from the objects' shapes. We use our representation, SARR, to obtain canonic (symmetry-resolved) poses for the symmetric objects in two popular 6D pose estimation datasets, T-LESS and ITODD, where SARR is unique and continuous w.r.t. the visual appearance. This allows us to use a standard CNN for 3D orientation estimation whose performance is evaluated with the symmetry-sensitive cosine distance . Our networks outperform the state of the art using and achieve satisfactory performance when using conventional symmetry-invariant measures. Our method does not require any 3D models but only depth, or, as part of an additional experiment, texture-less RGB/grayscale images as input. We also show that networks trained on SARR outperform the same networks trained on rotation matrices, Euler angles, quaternions, standard trigonometrics or the recently popular 6d representation -- even in inference scenarios where no prior knowledge of the objects' symmetry properties is available. Code and a visualization toolkit are available at https://github.com/akriegler/SARR .
Equivariant symmetry-aware head pose estimation for fetal MRI
We present E(3)-Pose, a novel fast pose estimation method that jointly and explicitly models rotation equivariance and object symmetry. Our work is motivated by the challenging problem of accounting for fetal head motion during a diagnostic MRI scan. We aim to enable automatic adaptive prescription of diagnostic 2D MRI slices with 6-DoF head pose estimation, supported by rapid low-resolution 3D MRI volumes acquired before each 2D slice. Existing pose estimation methods struggle to generalize to clinical volumes due to pose ambiguities induced by inherent anatomical symmetries, as well as low resolution, noise, and artifacts. In contrast, E(3)-Pose captures anatomical symmetries and rigid pose equivariance by construction, and yields robust estimates of the fetal head pose. Our experiments on publicly available and representative clinical fetal MRI datasets demonstrate the superior robustness and generalization of our method across domains. Crucially, E(3)-Pose achieves state-of-the-art accuracy on clinical MRI volumes, supporting future clinical translation. Our implementation is publicly available at github.com/MedicalVisionGroup/E3-Pose.
DLTPose: 6DoF Pose Estimation From Accurate Dense Surface Point Estimates
We propose DLTPose, a novel method for 6DoF object pose estimation from RGBD images that combines the accuracy of sparse keypoint methods with the robustness of dense pixel-wise predictions. DLTPose predicts per-pixel radial distances to a set of minimally four keypoints, which are then fed into our novel Direct Linear Transform (DLT) formulation to produce accurate 3D object frame surface estimates, leading to better 6DoF pose estimation. Additionally, we introduce a novel symmetry-aware keypoint ordering approach, designed to handle object symmetries that otherwise cause inconsistencies in keypoint assignments. Previous keypoint-based methods relied on fixed keypoint orderings, which failed to account for the multiple valid configurations exhibited by symmetric objects, which our ordering approach exploits to enhance the model's ability to learn stable keypoint representations. Extensive experiments on the benchmark LINEMOD, Occlusion LINEMOD and YCB-Video datasets show that DLTPose outperforms existing methods, especially for symmetric and occluded objects.
