Also known as YOLO

Overview

YOLO studies how to locate and classify objects in images or video in a single forward pass, with many variants also supporting instance segmentation. Common approaches refine multi-scale feature fusion, add attention or context modules, and compress models for edge hardware; performance is often assessed on benchmarks such as COCO and domain-specific datasets. Applications range from robotics and remote sensing to agriculture, wildlife monitoring, and medical imaging. The central tension is balancing accuracy, speed, and model size while ensuring results generalize across datasets, object scales, and deployment conditions; newer versions do not consistently outperform older ones in every setting.
