Diachronic Perspective

Diachronic research investigates language evolution over time, aiming to understand how linguistic structures, vocabulary, and usage patterns change across different periods. Current studies leverage large corpora and computational methods, including transformer-based models like BERT and dynamic topic models, to analyze diverse aspects of language change, such as phonetic shifts, syntactic structures, and semantic drift across various languages. This work is crucial for improving natural language processing (NLP) technologies by addressing the challenges posed by historical language variation and building more inclusive and robust systems. Furthermore, diachronic analysis provides valuable insights into the forces driving linguistic change and the relationship between language and culture.
