Flexible Robot

Flexible robots, characterized by their ability to conform to complex environments, are a burgeoning field of robotics research focused on improving modeling, control, and sensing capabilities. Current efforts concentrate on developing accurate models that account for nonlinearities like hysteresis, employing advanced algorithms such as Gaussian processes and deep neural networks for state estimation and control (including model predictive control and imitation learning), and designing novel sensors like soft air pocket sensors for force feedback. These advancements are crucial for expanding the applications of flexible robots in minimally invasive surgery, space exploration, and other areas requiring dexterity and adaptability in challenging environments.
