Overview

3D avatar generation studies how to build digital humans that preserve a person's appearance and can be viewed or animated from new poses and viewpoints. Methods use parametric models such as FLAME and SMPL-X, neural fields and 3D Gaussian splatting, and increasingly diffusion or transformer models for feed-forward reconstruction from a single image, sparse portraits, or video. Research also targets controllable facial and body motion, speech-driven expression, and realistic clothing and hair, with evaluation on benchmarks such as NeRSemble, ZJU-MoCap, and 4D-DRESS. A central challenge is balancing identity fidelity and 3D consistency with broad generalization, realistic dynamics, and fast inference, especially when parts of the person are unseen or training data are limited.

Structure-Aware Fine-Grained Gaussian Splatting for Expressive Avatar Reconstruction

Reconstructing photorealistic and topology-aware human avatars from monocular videos remains a significant challenge in the fields of computer vision and graphics. While existing 3D human avatar modeling approaches can effectively capture body motion, they often fail to accurately model fine details such as hand movements and facial expressions. To address this, we propose Structure-aware Fine-grained Gaussian Splatting (SFGS), a novel method for reconstructing expressive and coherent full-body 3D human avatars from a monocular video sequence. The SFGS use both spatial-only triplane and time-aware hexplane to capture dynamic features across consecutive frames. A structure-aware gaussian module is designed to capture pose-dependent details in a spatially coherent manner and improve pose and texture expression. To better model hand deformations, we also propose a residual refinement module based on fine-grained hand reconstruction. Our method requires only a single-stage training and outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in both quantitative and qualitative evaluations, generating high-fidelity avatars with natural motion and fine details. The code is on Github: https://github.com/Su245811YZ/SFGS

GenLCA: 3D Diffusion for Full-Body Avatars from In-the-Wild Videos

We present GenLCA, a diffusion-based generative model for generating and editing photorealistic full-body avatars from text and image inputs. The generated avatars are faithful to the inputs, while supporting high-fidelity facial and full-body animations. The core idea is a novel paradigm that enables training a full-body 3D diffusion model from partially observable 2D data, allowing the training dataset to scale to millions of real-world videos. This scalability contributes to the superior photorealism and generalizability of GenLCA. Specifically, we scale up the dataset by repurposing a pretrained feed-forward avatar reconstruction model as an animatable 3D tokenizer, which encodes unstructured video frames into structured 3D tokens. However, most real-world videos only provide partial observations of body parts, resulting in excessive blurring or transparency artifacts in the 3D tokens. To address this, we propose a novel visibility-aware diffusion training strategy that replaces invalid regions with learnable tokens and computes losses only over valid regions. We then train a flow-based diffusion model on the token dataset, inherently maintaining the photorealism and animatability provided by the pretrained avatar reconstruction model. Our approach effectively enables the use of large-scale real-world video data to train a diffusion model natively in 3D. We demonstrate the efficacy of our method through diverse and high-fidelity generation and editing results, outperforming existing solutions by a large margin. PhysHead: Simulation-Ready Gaussian Head Avatars

Realistic digital avatars require expressive and dynamic hair motion; however, most existing head avatar methods assume rigid hair movement. These methods often fail to disentangle hair from the head, representing it as a simple outer shell and failing to capture its natural volumetric behavior. In this paper, we address these limitations by introducing PhysHead, a hybrid representation for animatable head avatars with realistic hair dynamics learned from multi-view video. At the core is a 3D Gaussian-based layered representation of the head. Our approach combines a 3D parametric mesh for the head with strand-based hair, which can be directly simulated using physics engines. For the appearance model, we employ Gaussian primitives attached to both the head mesh and hair segments. This representation enables the creation of photorealistic head avatars with dynamic hair behavior, such as wind-blown motion, overcoming the constraints of rigid hair in existing methods. However, these animation capabilities also require new training schemes. In particular, we propose the use of VLM-based models to generate appearance of regions that are occluded in the dynamic training sequences. In quantitative and qualitative studies, we demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed model and compare it with existing baselines. We show that our method can synthesize physically plausible hair motion besides expression and camera control.

AvatarPointillist: AutoRegressive 4D Gaussian Avatarization

We introduce AvatarPointillist, a novel framework for generating dynamic 4D Gaussian avatars from a single portrait image. At the core of our method is a decoder-only Transformer that autoregressively generates a point cloud for 3D Gaussian Splatting. This sequential approach allows for precise, adaptive construction, dynamically adjusting point density and the total number of points based on the subject's complexity. During point generation, the AR model also jointly predicts per-point binding information, enabling realistic animation. After generation, a dedicated Gaussian decoder converts the points into complete, renderable Gaussian attributes. We demonstrate that conditioning the decoder on the latent features from the AR generator enables effective interaction between stages and markedly improves fidelity. Extensive experiments validate that AvatarPointillist produces high-quality, photorealistic, and controllable avatars. We believe this autoregressive formulation represents a new paradigm for avatar generation, and we will release our code inspire future research.

UNICA: A Unified Neural Framework for Controllable 3D Avatars

Controllable 3D human avatars have found widespread applications in 3D games, the metaverse, and AR/VR scenarios. The conventional approach to creating such a 3D avatar requires a lengthy, intricate pipeline encompassing appearance modeling, motion planning, rigging, and physical simulation. In this paper, we introduce UNICA (UNIfied neural Controllable Avatar), a skeleton-free generative model that unifies all avatar control components into a single neural framework. Given keyboard inputs akin to video game controls, UNICA generates the next frame of a 3D avatar's geometry through an action-conditioned diffusion model operating on 2D position maps. A point transformer then maps the resulting geometry to 3D Gaussian Splatting for high-fidelity free-view rendering. Our approach naturally captures hair and loose clothing dynamics without manually designed physical simulation, and supports extra-long autoregressive generation. To the best of our knowledge, UNICA is the first model to unify the workflow of "motion planning, rigging, physical simulation, and rendering". Code is released at https://github.com/zjh21/UNICA.

Large-scale Codec Avatars: The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Large-scale Avatar Pretraining

High-quality 3D avatar modeling faces a critical trade-off between fidelity and generalization. On the one hand, multi-view studio data enables high-fidelity modeling of humans with precise control over expressions and poses, but it struggles to generalize to real-world data due to limited scale and the domain gap between the studio environment and the real world. On the other hand, recent large-scale avatar models trained on millions of in-the-wild samples show promise for generalization across a wide range of identities, yet the resulting avatars are often of low-quality due to inherent 3D ambiguities. To address this, we present Large-Scale Codec Avatars (LCA), a high-fidelity, full-body 3D avatar model that generalizes to world-scale populations in a feedforward manner, enabling efficient inference. Inspired by the success of large language models and vision foundation models, we present, for the first time, a pre/post-training paradigm for 3D avatar modeling at scale: we pretrain on 1M in-the-wild videos to learn broad priors over appearance and geometry, then post-train on high-quality curated data to enhance expressivity and fidelity. LCA generalizes across hair styles, clothing, and demographics while providing precise, fine-grained facial expressions and finger-level articulation control, with strong identity preservation. Notably, we observe emergent generalization to relightability and loose garment support to unconstrained inputs, and zero-shot robustness to stylized imagery, despite the absence of direct supervision.

True to Tone? Quantifying Skin Tone Fidelity and Bias in Photographic-to-Virtual Human Pipelines

Accurate reproduction of facial skin tone is essential for realism, identity preservation, and fairness in Virtual Human (VH) rendering. However, most accessible avatar creation pipelines rely on photographic inputs that lack colorimetric calibration, which can introduce inconsistencies and bias. We propose a fully automatic and scalable methodology to systematically evaluate skin tone fidelity across the VH generation pipeline. Our approach defines a full workflow that integrates skin color and illumination extraction, texture recolorization, real-time rendering, and quantitative color analysis. Using facial images from the Chicago Face Database (CFD), we compare skin tone extraction strategies based on cheek-region sampling, following the literature, and multidimensional masking derived from full-face analysis. Additionally, we test both strategies with lighting isolation, using the pre-trained TRUST framework, employed without any training or optimization within our pipeline. Extracted skin tones are applied to MetaHuman textures and rendered under multiple lighting configurations. Skin tone consistency is evaluated objectively in the CIELAB color space using the ΔEΔE metric and the Individual Typology Angle (ITA). The proposed methodology operates without manual intervention and, with the exception of pre-trained illumination compensation modules, the pipeline does not include learning or training stages, enabling low computational cost and large-scale evaluation. Using this framework, we generate and analyze approximately 19,848 rendered instances. Our results show phenotype-dependent behavior of extraction strategies and consistently higher colorimetric errors for darker skin tones.

Better Rigs, Not Bigger Networks: A Body Model Ablation for Gaussian Avatars

Recent 3D Gaussian splatting methods built atop SMPL achieve remarkable visual fidelity while continually increasing the complexity of the overall training architecture. We demonstrate that much of this complexity is unnecessary: by replacing SMPL with the Momentum Human Rig (MHR), estimated via SAM-3D-Body, a minimal pipeline with no learned deformations or pose-dependent corrections achieves the highest reported PSNR and competitive or superior LPIPS and SSIM on PeopleSnapshot and ZJU-MoCap. To disentangle pose estimation quality from body model representational capacity, we perform two controlled ablations: translating SAM-3D-Body meshes to SMPL-X, and translating the original dataset's SMPL poses into MHR both retrained under identical conditions. These ablations confirm that body model expressiveness has been a primary bottleneck in avatar reconstruction, with both mesh representational capacity and pose estimation quality contributing meaningfully to the full pipeline's gains.

Autoregressive Appearance Prediction for 3D Gaussian Avatars

A photorealistic and immersive human avatar experience demands capturing fine, person-specific details such as cloth and hair dynamics, subtle facial expressions, and characteristic motion patterns. Achieving this requires large, high-quality datasets, which often introduce ambiguities and spurious correlations when very similar poses correspond to different appearances. Models that fit these details during training can overfit and produce unstable, abrupt appearance changes for novel poses. We propose a 3D Gaussian Splatting avatar model with a spatial MLP backbone that is conditioned on both pose and an appearance latent. The latent is learned during training by an encoder, yielding a compact representation that improves reconstruction quality and helps disambiguate pose-driven renderings. At driving time, our predictor autoregressively infers the latent, producing temporally smooth appearance evolution and improved stability. Overall, our method delivers a robust and practical path to high-fidelity, stable avatar driving.

DipGuava: Disentangling Personalized Gaussian Features for 3D Head Avatars from Monocular Video

While recent 3D head avatar creation methods attempt to animate facial dynamics, they often fail to capture personalized details, limiting realism and expressiveness. To fill this gap, we present DipGuava (Disentangled and Personalized Gaussian UV Avatar), a novel 3D Gaussian head avatar creation method that successfully generates avatars with personalized attributes from monocular video. DipGuava is the first method to explicitly disentangle facial appearance into two complementary components, trained in a structured two-stage pipeline that significantly reduces learning ambiguity and enhances reconstruction fidelity. In the first stage, we learn a stable geometry-driven base appearance that captures global facial structure and coarse expression-dependent variations. In the second stage, the personalized residual details not captured in the first stage are predicted, including high-frequency components and nonlinearly varying features such as wrinkles and subtle skin deformations. These components are fused via dynamic appearance fusion that integrates residual details after deformation, ensuring spatial and semantic alignment. This disentangled design enables DipGuava to generate photorealistic, identity-preserving avatars, consistently outperforming prior methods in both visual quality and quantitativeperformance, as demonstrated in extensive experiments.

FHAvatar: Fast and High-Fidelity Reconstruction of Face-and-Hair Composable 3D Head Avatar from Few Casual Captures

We present FHAvatar, a novel framework for reconstructing 3D Gaussian avatars with composable face and hair components from an arbitrary number of views. Unlike previous approaches that couple facial and hair representations within a unified modeling process, we explicitly decouple two components in texture space by representing the face with planar Gaussians and the hair with strand-based Gaussians. To overcome the limitations of existing methods that rely on dense multi-view captures or costly per-identity optimization, we propose an aggregated transformer backbone to learn geometry-aware cross-view priors and head-hair structural coherence from multi-view datasets, enabling effective and efficient feature extraction and fusion from few casual captures. Extensive quantitative and qualitative experiments demonstrate that FHAvatar achieves state-of-the-art reconstruction quality from only a few observations of new identities within minutes, while supporting real-time animation, convenient hairstyle transfer, and stylized editing, broadening the accessibility and applicability of digital avatar creation.

SMAL-pets: SMAL Based Avatars of Pets from Single Image

Creating high-fidelity, animatable 3D dog avatars remains a formidable challenge in computer vision. Unlike human digital doubles, animal reconstruction faces a critical shortage of large-scale, annotated datasets for specialized applications. Furthermore, the immense morphological diversity across species, breeds, and crosses, which varies significantly in size, proportions, and features, complicates the generalization of existing models. Current reconstruction methods often struggle to capture realistic fur textures. Additionally, ensuring these avatars are fully editable and capable of performing complex, naturalistic movements typically necessitates labor-intensive manual mesh manipulation and expert rigging. This paper introduces SMAL-pets, a comprehensive framework that generates high-quality, editable animal avatars from a single input image. Our approach bridges the gap between reconstruction and generative modeling by leveraging a hybrid architecture. Our method integrates 3D Gaussian Splatting with the SMAL parametric model to provide a representation that is both visually high-fidelity and anatomically grounded. We introduce a multimodal editing suite that enables users to refine the avatar's appearance and execute complex animations through direct textual prompts. By allowing users to control both the aesthetic and behavioral aspects of the model via natural language, SMAL-pets provides a flexible, robust tool for animation and virtual reality.

ProgressiveAvatars: Progressive Animatable 3D Gaussian Avatars

In practical real-time XR and telepresence applications, network and computing resources fluctuate frequently. Therefore, a progressive 3D representation is needed. To this end, we propose ProgressiveAvatars, a progressive avatar representation built on a hierarchy of 3D Gaussians grown by adaptive implicit subdivision on a template mesh. 3D Gaussians are defined in face-local coordinates to remain animatable under varying expressions and head motion across multiple detail levels. The hierarchy expands when screen-space signals indicate a lack of detail, allocating resources to important areas. Leveraging importance ranking, ProgressiveAvatars supports incremental loading and rendering, adding new Gaussians as they arrive while preserving previous content, thus achieving smooth quality improvements across varying bandwidths. ProgressiveAvatars enables progressive delivery and progressive rendering under fluctuating network bandwidth and varying compute and memory resources.

Feed-forward Gaussian Registration for Head Avatar Creation and Editing

We present MATCH (Multi-view Avatars from Topologically Corresponding Heads), a multi-view Gaussian registration method for high-quality head avatar creation and editing. State-of-the-art multi-view head avatar methods require time-consuming head tracking followed by expensive avatar optimization, often resulting in a total creation time of more than one day. MATCH, in contrast, directly predicts Gaussian splat textures in correspondence from calibrated multi-view images in just 0.5 seconds per frame, without requiring data preprocessing. The learned intra-subject correspondence across frames enables fast creation of personalized head avatars, while correspondence across subjects supports applications such as expression transfer, optimization-free tracking, semantic editing, and identity interpolation. We establish these correspondences end-to-end using a transformer-based model that predicts Gaussian splat textures in the fixed UV layout of a template mesh. To achieve this, we introduce a novel registration-guided attention block, where each UV-map token attends exclusively to image tokens depicting its corresponding mesh region. This design improves efficiency and performance compared to dense cross-view attention. MATCH outperforms existing methods in novel-view synthesis, geometry registration, and head avatar generation, while making avatar creation 10 times faster than the closest competing baseline. The code and model weights are available on the project website.

High-Fidelity 3D Facial Avatar Synthesis with Controllable Fine-Grained Expressions

Facial expression editing methods can be mainly categorized into two types based on their architectures: 2D-based and 3D-based methods. The former lacks 3D face modeling capabilities, making it difficult to edit 3D factors effectively. The latter has demonstrated superior performance in generating high-quality and view-consistent renderings using single-view 2D face images. Although these methods have successfully used animatable models to control facial expressions, they still have limitations in achieving precise control over fine-grained expressions. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose a novel approach by simultaneously refining both the latent code of a pretrained 3D-Aware GAN model for texture editing and the expression code of the driven 3DMM model for mesh editing. Specifically, we introduce a Dual Mappers module, comprising Texture Mapper and Emotion Mapper, to learn the transformations of the given latent code for textures and the expression code for meshes, respectively. To optimize the Dual Mappers, we propose a Text-Guided Optimization method, leveraging a CLIP-based objective function with expression text prompts as targets, while integrating a SubSpace Projection mechanism to project the text embedding to the expression subspace such that we can have more precise control over fine-grained expressions. Extensive experiments and comparative analyses demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of our proposed method.

Zero-Shot Reconstruction of Animatable 3D Avatars with Cloth Dynamics from a Single Image

Existing single-image 3D human avatar methods primarily rely on rigid joint transformations, limiting their ability to model realistic cloth dynamics. We present DynaAvatar, a zero-shot framework that reconstructs animatable 3D human avatars with motion-dependent cloth dynamics from a single image. Trained on large-scale multi-person motion datasets, DynaAvatar employs a Transformer-based feed-forward architecture that directly predicts dynamic 3D Gaussian deformations without subject-specific optimization. To overcome the scarcity of dynamic captures, we introduce a static-to-dynamic knowledge transfer strategy: a Transformer pretrained on large-scale static captures provides strong geometric and appearance priors, which are efficiently adapted to motion-dependent deformations through lightweight LoRA fine-tuning on dynamic captures. We further propose the DynaFlow loss, an optical flow-guided objective that provides reliable motion-direction geometric cues for cloth dynamics in rendered space. Finally, we reannotate the missing or noisy SMPL-X fittings in existing dynamic capture datasets, as most public dynamic capture datasets contain incomplete or unreliable fittings that are unsuitable for training high-quality 3D avatar reconstruction models. Experiments demonstrate that DynaAvatar produces visually rich and generalizable animations, outperforming prior methods.

Retrieval-Augmented Gaussian Avatars: Improving Expression Generalization

Template-free animatable head avatars can achieve high visual fidelity by learning expression-dependent facial deformation directly from a subject's capture, avoiding parametric face templates and hand-designed blendshape spaces. However, since learned deformation is supervised only by the expressions observed for a single identity, these models suffer from limited expression coverage and often struggle when driven by motions that deviate from the training distribution. We introduce RAF (Retrieval-Augmented Faces), a simple training-time augmentation designed for template-free head avatars that learn deformation from data. RAF constructs a large unlabeled expression bank and, during training, replaces a subset of the subject's expression features with nearest-neighbor expressions retrieved from this bank while still reconstructing the subject's original frames. This exposes the deformation field to a broader range of expression conditions, encouraging stronger identity-expression decoupling and improving robustness to expression distribution shift without requiring paired cross-identity data, additional annotations, or architectural changes. We further analyze how retrieval augmentation increases expression diversity and validate retrieval quality with a user study showing that retrieved neighbors are perceptually closer in expression and pose. Experiments on the NeRSemble benchmark demonstrate that RAF consistently improves expression fidelity over the baseline, in both self-driving and cross-driving scenarios.

Dual Diffusion Models for Multi-modal Guided 3D Avatar Generation

Generating high-fidelity 3D avatars from text or image prompts is highly sought after in virtual reality and human-computer interaction. However, existing text-driven methods often rely on iterative Score Distillation Sampling (SDS) or CLIP optimization, which struggle with fine-grained semantic control and suffer from excessively slow inference. Meanwhile, image-driven approaches are severely bottlenecked by the scarcity and high acquisition cost of high-quality 3D facial scans, limiting model generalization. To address these challenges, we first construct a novel, large-scale dataset comprising over 100,000 pairs across four modalities: fine-grained textual descriptions, in-the-wild face images, high-quality light-normalized texture UV maps, and 3D geometric shapes. Leveraging this comprehensive dataset, we propose PromptAvatar, a framework featuring dual diffusion models. Specifically, it integrates a Texture Diffusion Model (TDM) that supports flexible multi-condition guidance from text and/or image prompts, alongside a Geometry Diffusion Model (GDM) guided by text prompts. By learning the direct mapping from multi-modal prompts to 3D representations, PromptAvatar eliminates the need for time-consuming iterative optimization, successfully generating high-fidelity, shading-free 3D avatars in under 10 seconds. Extensive quantitative and qualitative experiments demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art approaches in generation quality, fine-grained detail alignment, and computational efficiency.

Gaussian Wardrobe: Compositional 3D Gaussian Avatars for Free-Form Virtual Try-On

We introduce Gaussian Wardrobe, a novel framework to digitalize compositional 3D neural avatars from multi-view videos. Existing methods for 3D neural avatars typically treat the human body and clothing as an inseparable entity. However, this paradigm fails to capture the dynamics of complex free-form garments and limits the reuse of clothing across different individuals. To overcome these problems, we develop a novel, compositional 3D Gaussian representation to build avatars from multiple layers of free-form garments. The core of our method is decomposing neural avatars into bodies and layers of shape-agnostic neural garments. To achieve this, our framework learns to disentangle each garment layer from multi-view videos and canonicalizes it into a shape-independent space. In experiments, our method models photorealistic avatars with high-fidelity dynamics, achieving new state-of-the-art performance on novel pose synthesis benchmarks. In addition, we demonstrate that the learned compositional garments contribute to a versatile digital wardrobe, enabling a practical virtual try-on application where clothing can be freely transferred to new subjects. OMG-Avatar: One-shot Multi-LOD Gaussian Head Avatar

We propose OMG-Avatar, a novel One-shot method that leverages a Multi-LOD (Level-of-Detail) Gaussian representation for animatable 3D head reconstruction from a single image in 0.2s. Our method enables LOD head avatar modeling using a unified model that accommodates diverse hardware capabilities and inference speed requirements. To capture both global and local facial characteristics, we employ a transformer-based architecture for global feature extraction and projection-based sampling for local feature acquisition. These features are effectively fused under the guidance of a depth buffer, ensuring occlusion plausibility. We further introduce a coarse-to-fine learning paradigm to support Level-of-Detail functionality and enhance the perception of hierarchical details. To address the limitations of 3DMMs in modeling non-head regions such as the shoulders, we introduce a multi-region decomposition scheme in which the head and shoulders are predicted separately and then integrated through cross-region combination. Extensive experiments demonstrate that OMG-Avatar outperforms state-of-the-art methods in reconstruction quality, reenactment performance, and computational efficiency. GeoDiff4D: Geometry-Aware Diffusion for 4D Head Avatar Reconstruction

Reconstructing photorealistic and animatable 4D head avatars from a single portrait image remains a fundamental challenge in computer vision. While diffusion models have enabled remarkable progress in image and video generation for avatar reconstruction, existing methods primarily rely on 2D priors and struggle to achieve consistent 3D geometry. We propose a novel framework that leverages geometry-aware diffusion to learn strong geometry priors for high-fidelity head avatar reconstruction. Our approach jointly synthesizes portrait images and corresponding surface normals, while a pose-free expression encoder captures implicit expression representations. Both synthesized images and expression latents are incorporated into 3D Gaussian-based avatars, enabling photorealistic rendering with accurate geometry. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method substantially outperforms state-of-the-art approaches in visual quality, expression fidelity, and cross-identity generalization, while supporting real-time rendering.

WildGHand: Learning Anti-Perturbation Gaussian Hand Avatars from Monocular In-the-Wild Videos

Despite recent progress in 3D hand reconstruction from monocular videos, most existing methods rely on data captured in well-controlled environments and therefore degrade in real-world settings with severe perturbations, such as hand-object interactions, extreme poses, illumination changes, and motion blur. To tackle these issues, we introduce WildGHand, an optimization-based framework that enables self-adaptive 3D Gaussian splatting on in-the-wild videos and produces high-fidelity hand avatars. WildGHand incorporates two key components: (i) a dynamic perturbation disentanglement module that explicitly represents perturbations as time-varying biases on 3D Gaussian attributes during optimization, and (ii) a perturbation-aware optimization strategy that generates per-frame anisotropic weighted masks to guide optimization. Together, these components allow the framework to identify and suppress perturbations across both spatial and temporal dimensions. We further curate a dataset of monocular hand videos captured under diverse perturbations to benchmark in-the-wild hand avatar reconstruction. Extensive experiments on this dataset and two public datasets demonstrate that WildGHand achieves state-of-the-art performance and substantially improves over its base model across multiple metrics (e.g., up to a 15.8%15.8\% relative gain in PSNR and a 23.1%23.1\% relative reduction in LPIPS). PoseCraft: Tokenized 3D Body Landmark and Camera Conditioning for Photorealistic Human Image Synthesis

Digitizing humans and synthesizing photorealistic avatars with explicit 3D pose and camera controls are central to VR, telepresence, and entertainment. Existing skinning-based workflows require laborious manual rigging or template-based fittings, while neural volumetric methods rely on canonical templates and re-optimization for each unseen pose. We present PoseCraft, a diffusion framework built around tokenized 3D interface: instead of relying only on rasterized geometry as 2D control images, we encode sparse 3D landmarks and camera extrinsics as discrete conditioning tokens and inject them into diffusion via cross-attention. Our approach preserves 3D semantics by avoiding 2D re-projection ambiguity under large pose and viewpoint changes, and produces photorealistic imagery that faithfully captures identity and appearance. To train and evaluate at scale, we also implement GenHumanRF, a data generation workflow that renders diverse supervision from volumetric reconstructions. Our experiments show that PoseCraft achieves significant perceptual quality improvement over diffusion-centric methods, and attains better or comparable metrics to latest volumetric rendering SOTA while better preserving fabric and hair details.

BiMotion: B-spline Motion for Text-guided Dynamic 3D Character Generation

Text-guided dynamic 3D character generation has advanced rapidly, yet producing high-quality motion that faithfully reflects rich textual descriptions remains challenging. Existing methods tend to generate limited sub-actions or incoherent motion due to fixed-length temporal inputs and discrete frame-wise representations that fail to capture rich motion semantics. We address these limitations by representing motion with continuous differentiable B-spline curves, enabling more effective motion generation without modifying the capabilities of the underlying generative model. Specifically, our closed-form, Laplacian-regularized B-spline solver efficiently compresses variable-length motion sequences into compact representations with a fixed number of control points. Further, we introduce a normal-fusion strategy for input shape adherence along with correspondence-aware and local-rigidity losses for motion-restoration quality. To train our model, we collate BIMO, a new dataset containing diverse variable-length 3D motion sequences with rich, high-quality text annotations. Extensive evaluations show that our feed-forward framework BiMotion generates more expressive, higher-quality, and better prompt-aligned motions than existing state-of-the-art methods, while also achieving faster generation. OMEGA-Avatar: One-shot Modeling of 360° Gaussian Avatars

Creating high-fidelity, animatable 3D avatars from a single image remains a formidable challenge. We identified three desirable attributes of avatar generation: 1) the method should be feed-forward, 2) model a 360° full-head, and 3) should be animation-ready. However, current work addresses only two of the three points simultaneously. To address these limitations, we propose OMEGA-Avatar, the first feed-forward framework that simultaneously generates a generalizable, 360°-complete, and animatable 3D Gaussian head from a single image. Starting from a feed-forward and animatable framework, we address the 360° full-head avatar generation problem with two novel components. First, to overcome poor hair modeling in full-head avatar generation, we introduce a semantic-aware mesh deformation module that integrates multi-view normals to optimize a FLAME head with hair while preserving its topology structure. Second, to enable effective feed-forward decoding of full-head features, we propose a multi-view feature splatting module that constructs a shared canonical UV representation from features across multiple views through differentiable bilinear splatting, hierarchical UV mapping, and visibility-aware fusion. This approach preserves both global structural coherence and local high-frequency details across all viewpoints, ensuring 360° consistency without per-instance optimization. Extensive experiments demonstrate that OMEGA-Avatar achieves state-of-the-art performance, significantly outperforming existing baselines in 360° full-head completeness while robustly preserving identity across different viewpoints.

3DXTalker: Unifying Identity, Lip Sync, Emotion, and Spatial Dynamics in Expressive 3D Talking Avatars

Audio-driven 3D talking avatar generation is increasingly important in virtual communication, digital humans, and interactive media, where avatars must preserve identity, synchronize lip motion with speech, express emotion, and exhibit lifelike spatial dynamics, collectively defining a broader objective of expressivity. However, achieving this remains challenging due to insufficient training data with limited subject identities, narrow audio representations, and restricted explicit controllability. In this paper, we propose 3DXTalker, an expressive 3D talking avatar through data-curated identity modeling, audio-rich representations, and spatial dynamics controllability. 3DXTalker enables scalable identity modeling via 2D-to-3D data curation pipeline and disentangled representations, alleviating data scarcity and improving identity generalization. Then, we introduce frame-wise amplitude and emotional cues beyond standard speech embeddings, ensuring superior lip synchronization and nuanced expression modulation. These cues are unified by a flow-matching-based transformer for coherent facial dynamics. Moreover, 3DXTalker also enables natural head-pose motion generation while supporting stylized control via prompt-based conditioning. Extensive experiments show that 3DXTalker integrates lip synchronization, emotional expression, and head-pose dynamics within a unified framework, achieves superior performance in 3D talking avatar generation.

One-Shot Feed-Forward 360∘^{\circ} Animatable Avatar via Inpainted UV-Space Gaussian Modeling

Building one-shot 3D animatable head avatars is an important yet challenging problem. Existing methods generally collapse under large camera pose variations, compromising the realism of 3D avatars. In this work, we propose a new framework to tackle the novel setting of one-shot 3D full-head animatable avatar reconstruction in a single forward pass via inpainted UV-space Gaussian modeling, enabling 360∘^\circ rendering views and real-time animation. To facilitate efficient animation control, we model 3D head avatars with Gaussian primitives embedded on the surface of a parametric face model within the UV space, and project the input image features to the UV space, resulting in incomplete local UV feature maps. To inpaint the missing regions, we obtain knowledge of full-head geometry and textures from rich 3D full-head priors within a pretrained 3D generative adversarial network (GAN) for global full-head feature extraction and multi-view supervision. Specifically, to enhance the fidelity of 3D reconstruction during inpainting, we take advantage of the symmetric nature of the UV space and human faces to fuse incomplete yet detailed local UV feature maps with the extracted global full-head textures, resulting in inpainted UV Gaussian attribute maps for avatar modeling. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method is the first to achieve high-quality 3D full-head animatable avatar modeling, significantly improving side and back views while outperforming state-of-the-art animation approaches, thereby improving the realism of 3D animatable avatars.

AGORA: Adversarial Generation Of Real-time Animatable 3D Gaussian Head Avatars

The generation of high-fidelity, animatable 3D human avatars remains a core challenge in computer graphics and vision, with applications in VR, telepresence, and entertainment. Existing approaches based on implicit representations like NeRFs suffer from slow rendering and dynamic inconsistencies, while 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) methods are typically limited to static head generation, lacking dynamic control. We bridge this gap by introducing AGORA, a novel framework that extends 3DGS within a generative adversarial network to produce animatable avatars. Our key contribution is a lightweight, FLAME-conditioned deformation branch that predicts per-Gaussian residuals, enabling identity-preserving, fine-grained expression control while allowing real-time inference. Identity is further preserved through spatial shape conditioning of the identity branch, and expression fidelity is enforced via a dual-discriminator training scheme leveraging synthetic renderings of the parametric mesh. AGORA generates avatars that are not only visually realistic but also precisely controllable. Quantitatively, we outperform state-of-the-art NeRF-based methods on expression accuracy while rendering at 250 FPS on a single GPU and, notably, at ∼\sim9 FPS under CPU-only inference -- to our knowledge the first demonstration of CPU-only animatable 3DGS avatar synthesis. This work represents a significant step toward practical, high-performance digital humans. Project website: https://ramazan793.github.io/AGORA/

PanoLAM: Large Avatar Model for Gaussian Full-Head Synthesis from One-shot Unposed Image

We present a feed-forward framework for static Gaussian full-head reconstruction and novel-view rendering from a single unposed image. Unlike previous work that relies on time-consuming GAN inversion and test-time optimization, our framework can reconstruct the Gaussian full-head model given a single unposed image in a single forward pass. This enables fast reconstruction and rendering during inference. To mitigate the lack of large-scale 3D head assets, we propose a large-scale synthetic dataset from trained 3D GANs and train our framework using only synthetic data. For efficient high-fidelity generation, we introduce a coarse-to-fine Gaussian head generation pipeline, where sparse points from the FLAME model interact with the image features by transformer blocks for feature extraction and coarse shape reconstruction, which are then densified for high-fidelity reconstruction. To fully leverage the prior knowledge residing in pretrained 3D GANs for effective reconstruction, we propose a dual-branch framework that effectively aggregates the structured spherical triplane feature and unstructured point-based features for more effective Gaussian head reconstruction. Experimental results show the effectiveness of our framework compared to existing work. The dataset is available at https://github.com/PanoLAM/PanoLAM_Dataset.

SEGA: Drivable 3D Gaussian Head Avatar from a Single Image

Creating photorealistic 3D head avatars from limited input has become increasingly important for applications in virtual reality, telepresence, and digital entertainment. While recent advances like neural rendering and 3D Gaussian splatting have enabled high-quality digital human avatar creation and animation, most methods rely on multiple images or multi-view inputs, limiting their practicality for real-world use. In this paper, we propose SEGA, a novel approach for Single-imagE-based 3D drivable Gaussian head Avatar creation that combines generalized prior models with a new hierarchical UV-space Gaussian Splatting framework. SEGA seamlessly combines priors derived from large-scale 2D datasets with 3D priors learned from multi-view, multi-expression, and multi-ID data, achieving robust generalization to unseen identities while ensuring 3D consistency across novel viewpoints and expressions. We further present a hierarchical UV-space Gaussian Splatting framework that leverages FLAME-based structural priors and employs a dual-branch architecture to disentangle dynamic and static facial components effectively. The dynamic branch encodes expression-driven fine details, while the static branch focuses on expression-invariant regions, enabling efficient parameter inference and precomputation. This design maximizes the utility of limited 3D data and achieves real-time performance for animation and rendering. Additionally, SEGA performs person-specific fine-tuning to further enhance the fidelity and realism of the generated avatars. Experiments show our method outperforms state-of-the-art approaches in generalization ability, identity preservation, and expression realism, advancing one-shot avatar creation for practical applications.
