Computer Science Education
Overview
Computer science education investigates how learners develop programming, computational thinking, and other computing skills, and how courses can foster those abilities. Researchers study classroom approaches such as project-based learning and interactive instruction, alongside adaptive practice, learning analytics, and AI tutors grounded in course materials. They evaluate learning through programming tasks, exams, student work, surveys, and measures of engagement, while also examining curriculum coverage and access to computing education. Generative AI has sharpened a central tension: it can offer timely explanations and feedback, but educators must ensure students still build conceptual understanding, critical judgment, and skills that assessments can reliably measure.
