Neural Network Robustness
Overview
Neural network robustness asks whether a model keeps making reliable predictions when inputs, training data, or computing hardware differ from expectations. Common approaches include adversarial training, corruption and shift testing, Lipschitz constraints, randomized smoothing, and formal verification that certifies behavior within a defined perturbation range. Work spans image, language, audio, scientific, and control systems, with evaluations increasingly examining confidence, internal representations, adaptive attacks, and deployment conditions rather than accuracy alone. A central tension is that improving worst-case or certified robustness can reduce clean accuracy, increase computational cost, or leave other kinds of failures untouched.
