Scientific Visualization
Overview
Scientific visualization helps people inspect and understand data from settings such as simulations, imaging, climate science, and networks. Methods include volume rendering, flow and graph layouts, dimensionality reduction, visual analytics, and techniques for showing uncertainty. Current work also uses generative models and AI agents to create figures, interpret plots, and automate interactive analysis workflows, with benchmarks testing accuracy and task completion. A central challenge is making automation efficient without sacrificing data fidelity, provenance, uncertainty communication, or human oversight.
