Visual Analytics
Overview
Visual analytics studies how people and computational methods can work together to explore complex data, discover patterns, and make decisions. Common approaches include coordinated interactive views, dimensionality-reduction and graph visualizations, provenance tracking, and visual tools for inspecting machine-learning models; newer systems add conversational and agentic workflows. Applications range from scientific discovery and health data to accessible visualization, model debugging, and high-stakes document review. A central challenge is ensuring these systems are not only effective but also interpretable, reliable, accessible, and evaluated for the quality of human reasoning as well as task performance.
