Dense 3D mapping with semantic understanding is essential for robotic perception in complex environments. Recent 3D Gaussian Splatting-based mapping approaches enable high-fidelity geometry and efficient open-vocabulary perception, but typically represent semantics as unstructured feature fields that limit object-centric reasoning. In contrast, 3D scene graphs explicitly model objects and their relationships for structured reasoning, but are commonly constructed from sparse geometric representations that do not fully exploit dense semantic maps. In this work, we present OpenSplatGraph, a unified framework that constructs persistent 3D scene graphs directly from an online Gaussian-based open-vocabulary semantic map. The proposed framework augments the dense semantic map with a reliability-aware semantic field that maintains lightweight observation statistics for confidence-aware, query-conditioned object extraction. Extracted object instances are associated with persistent graph nodes, allowing object attributes and relationships to be incrementally updated across observations and queries. By tightly coupling dense semantic mapping with persistent object-centric representations, our framework supports both language-guided object grounding and structured relational reasoning while preserving the geometric fidelity of Gaussian-based mapping. Comprehensive evaluations on standard 3D scene understanding benchmarks and real-world robotic experiments demonstrate that OpenSplatGraph achieves competitive performance for online open-vocabulary perception and downstream robotic tasks. EviSplat: Preserving Multi-View Evidence in 3D Gaussian Splatting for Open-Vocabulary Segmentation
Open-vocabulary 3D scene understanding enables object localization and segmentation from free-form text queries without a fixed category vocabulary. Many recent methods build on 3D Gaussian Splatting and consolidate multi-view observations, such as masked crops from individual views, into language features or compact object descriptors before the query is known. However, observations of the same object vary across viewpoints and are not equally informative: some reveal cues relevant to a particular query, whereas others provide incomplete or misleading evidence. Pre-query consolidation can therefore suppress cues on which a later query depends. We introduce EviSplat, which preserves individual observation features as evidence for later text queries. EviSplat retains individual observation features within class-agnostic 3D instances that represent objects, object parts, or background regions. It also learns, for each Gaussian, a distribution describing which visual appearances its observations support. Given a text query, EviSplat scores each instance using its most relevant observations. It then computes a score for each Gaussian by combining instance-level relevance with locally supported evidence, weighted by how often and how unambiguously that Gaussian was observed. Different queries can thus draw on different visual cues from the same preserved evidence. Experiments across diverse datasets and evaluation protocols demonstrate state-of-the-art performance, supporting the benefit of preserving multi-view evidence until query time and aggregating it according to the query.
Hybrid Gaussians for Robust Open-Vocabulary 3D Segmentation with Multi-View Object Association and Boundary Refinement
Open-vocabulary 3D segmentation localizes objects from free-form text queries, but remains challenging in real image sequences: incomplete or noisy 2D supervision destabilizes multi-view identity assignment, while full-scene semantic learning weakens object-level discriminability. We introduce Hybrid Gaussians, a unified 3D representation jointly modeling object association and language-aligned semantics. Its Multi-View Object Association mechanism combines Observation Fusion and Semantic Contrastive Learning to improve identity consistency and semantic discrimination. Boundary Reconstruction Optimization further refines local boundary structure to improve contour quality. Experiments on LERF and 3D-OVS demonstrate strong quantitative and qualitative performance. Our method achieves 59.1% mIoU on LERF, yielding a 13.4% relative gain over the baseline. Project page: https://nora202.github.io/hybridgaussians.
SparseTalk - Sparsifying 3D Gaussian Language Fields for Efficient 3D Visual Question Answering
3D Gaussian language fields provide an explicit, spatially grounded representation for 3D visual question answering (VQA), but their dense semantic features can require tens of thousands of embeddings per scene, resulting in substantial storage, memory, and inference costs. We investigate how much of this representation is actually necessary for downstream reasoning. Starting from a full embedding representation, we systematically sparsify its semantic embeddings, including the previously underexplored regime below a single image-equivalent block down to 8 visual tokens. We compare random, geometric, semantic, and joint spatial-semantic selection strategies and introduce an object-based sparsification method that distributes the token budget across detected object instances while retaining background context. Experiments on ScanQA and MV-ScanQA reveal substantial redundancy in dense Gaussian language fields. Strong VQA performance is retained with only a few hundred semantic embeddings, corresponding to less than 1% of the original representation. Object-based selection performs well relative to others, with only modest observed changes down to 256 tokens. At this budget, SparseTalk retains 0.80% of SplatTalk's 32,076-token inference input and 0.332% of the mean 77,207-Gaussian dense field, increasing inference throughput while reducing decoded-feature memory 125-fold.
LangStreet: Persistent Language Fields for Anchor-Decoded Street Gaussians
Language Gaussian fields implicitly assume that the primitive carrying semantics remains identifiable across views. This assumption breaks in scalable anchor-decoded representations, where persistent anchors generate view-conditioned child Gaussians whose geometry and appearance vary with the camera. We introduce Ours, a persistent language field for such structured Gaussian scenes. Our key idea is semantic ownership: transient children route observations, while persistent decoder slots and their parent anchors own the language field. We use alpha-compositing responsibilities to accumulate additive directional evidence at slots; these statistics marginalize exactly to anchors. We then complete weakly supported slots with anchor-aligned evidence while preserving the anchor direction, and represent slot detail through low-rank residuals in anchor-relative semantic coordinates. Our primary model, Ours (base), stores anchor features together with compact slot residuals. Ours (light) retains only anchor features, whereas Ours (max) stores the full-dimensional completed slot features explicitly. Without scene-specific semantic optimization, Ours (base) nearly matches Ours (max) across KITTI, Virtual KITTI, and Waymo. On KITTI, it achieves 34.19 2D mIoU with a 2.72 GiB effective feature footprint, compared with 34.20 mIoU and 12.90 GiB for Ours (max). The same accuracy-storage trend holds on Virtual KITTI and Waymo. These results show that language fields on view-conditioned splats require persistent semantic ownership, conserved evidence, and a hierarchy that balances stability, detail, and representation cost. Our code, checkpoints, and benchmark suite will be publicly available.
Embodied Multimodal Grounding for Open-Vocabulary Mobile Manipulation via Semantic 3D Gaussian Splatting
Embodied mobile manipulation requires language, visual observations, three-dimensional scene structure, and action feasibility to be aligned before execution. We study open-vocabulary target grounding with few-shot manipulation in local household workspaces and present an embodied multimodal grounding framework that integrates active multi-view Semantic 3D Gaussian Splatting (Semantic-3DGS), reachability-aware base positioning, and a diffusion-based vision-language-action policy. A task-driven local Semantic-3DGS serves as a shared interface across active sensing, language-conditioned 3D localization, obstacle-aware scene reasoning, base preparation, and semantic conditioning of the action model. To preserve pretrained action priors, the 3D semantic cues are injected only into the late action-expert blocks. In expanded 50-trial real-robot evaluations against representative vision-language-action (VLA) approaches, the full system achieves 60% long-horizon success compared with 40% for PointVLA and 28% for DexVLA, and reaches 74% success in heavily cluttered manipulation compared with 52% for the single-view variant and 46% for PointVLA. It also maintains 75% success under a 75 cm height shift and eliminates photo-induced false grasps. These results indicate that explicit, refreshable 3D semantic grounding can improve robustness under clutter, occlusion, viewpoint variation, and embodiment constraints.
Confidence matters: Leveraging Multi-view Geometric Priors for GS-based Reconstruction
3D Gaussian splatting (3DGS) has emerged as a widely-used tool for novel view synthesis, offering real-time rendering in a sparse representation. However, the method's reliance on structure-from-motion initialization and photometric optimization can lead to suboptimal geometric reconstruction, particularly for objects with high specularity. In this work, we investigate the integration of geometric priors, in the form of predicted normal and depth maps, into the 3DGS framework to improve the reconstruction quality. We analyze the effect of incorporating these priors into GS-based methods and our evaluation reveals that multi-view predictions, as they are done by the recent visual geometry grounded transformer (VGGT), outperform single-view alternatives. A major factor is the existence of a confidence map for the estimations, which comes as a by-product of multi-view models and which can significantly improve the effectiveness of priors by weighting each prediction appropriately. Extensive experiments on standard benchmarks show consistent improvement in reconstruction quality and significant gains in complex scenes including specular objects.
OutLangSplat: 3D Language Gaussian Splatting for UAV Outdoor Scenes
3D Language Gaussian Splatting embeds open-vocabulary language features into 3D Gaussian Splatting, providing an efficient explicit representation for text-driven 3D scene understanding. However, existing methods are limited to indoor or small-scale scenes, and tend to fail in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) outdoor scenes, where severe occlusions and long distance viewpoints often lead to incorrect semantic activations and missing target responses. In this paper, we present OutLangSplat which adapts language Gaussian representations to UAV outdoor scenes by improving feature representation and aggregation reliability. For the feature representation, a 2D-3D dual-branch representation with region-based alignment and fusion is designed to improve spatial consistency, reducing incomplete target responses and background misactivations. For the feature aggregation, we introduce a training-free contribution and consistency-aware Gaussian feature aggregation strategy that leverages pixel contribution reliability and cross-view semantic consistency to suppress unreliable responses from noisy viewpoints. A new dataset is provided by manually annotating various objects on four real-world public UAV outdoor scene datasets. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first accessible dataset of open-vocabulary 3D scene understanding for UAV outdoor scenes. Quantitative evaluations and ablation studies demonstrate that OutLangSplat outperforms SOTA methods on both open-vocabulary semantic segmentation and instance localization tasks. The datasets and codes will be open-sourced.
DLGStream: Dynamic Language-embedded Guassian Splatting for Open-vocabulary Enabled Free-viewpoint Video Streaming
3D Gaussian Splatting~(3DGS) has emerged as a promising paradigm for reconstructing streamable free-viewpoint video~(FVV) from multi-view videos. However, 3DGS-based FVVs typically lack user interaction and editing capabilities, which diminishes the immersive experience. Recent research has integrated language features from CLIP into 3DGS via distillation, enabling open-vocabulary queries and supporting many downstream applications. Nevertheless, the stringent requirements of FVV, low frame size and high FPS, make current language Gaussian representations unsuitable for language-embedded FVV. In this paper, we propose DLGStream, a novel language-embedded FVV representation that streams time-varying language features alongside Gaussian attributes to support 4D environment interaction, scene editing, and spatial intelligence. Specifically, we propose a dual-opacity dynamic language Gaussian representation, which maintains two opacity attributes for color and language features to deal with performance degradation that occurs when colors and features are jointly optimized. Furthermore, we introduce an interpolation-based deformation field to reduce temporal redundancy. This deformation field can also be used for 4D frame interpolation, boosting FVV sequences from low to high FPS. Experimental results demonstrate that DLGStream achieves superior performance in both on open-vocabulary segmentation and reconstruction quality with an average frame size of merely 43 KB. The code is available on https://github.com/kkkzh/DLGStream.
Mesh2GS: White-Box 3DGS Construction via Plenoptic Sampling
3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has emerged as a promising method for high-quality, real-time 3D reconstruction. To associate 3DGS with mesh representations, existing methods primarily focus on 3DGS-to-mesh reconstruction from multi-view images. In contrast, the problem of converting a mesh into 3DGS has received comparatively less attention. Instead of relying on heuristic strategies that bind 3D Gaussians to the mesh, we propose a novel white-box 3DGS construction framework, termed Mesh2GS, which generates 3DGS directly from mesh geometry based on plenoptic sampling theory, achieving Nyquist-level performance for high-quality global illumination rendering. Firstly, we propose a plenoptic sampling guided 3DGS construction strategy that theoretically derives the minimum sampling rate of the sampled views and the distribution of 3D Gaussians. Second, we propose a novel 3DGS update procedure with albedo--shading decomposition for efficient global-illumination capture. Finally, we introduce a neural illumination enhancement module to handle non-Lambertian effects. Experimental results demonstrate that our method surpasses state-of-the-art baselines and is practically effective for both real-time shared rendering and non-Lambertian effects capturing specular highlights. The project code will be released upon acceptance.
MoonSplat: Monocular Online Gaussian Splatting with Sim(3) Global Optimization
Online 3D reconstruction from monocular image sequences is a challenging and ongoing research topic. 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), leveraging its high-quality real-time rendering capability, empowers online 3D reconstruction to represent dense scenes with enhanced expressiveness, and thus holds great promise for a wide range of applications such as robotics and AR/VR. However, existing online 3DGS methods still suffer from some key challenges: fragile camera pose estimation due to the lack of global optimization, and low optimization efficiency in large-scale or long-sequence scenarios. To address these issues, we propose a robust and efficient online voxelized 3DGS reconstruction framework integrated with global optimization, which enables reliable camera tracking and efficient global loop closure for both camera poses and voxelized 3DGS. To accelerate the convergence of the voxelized 3DGS, we further introduce a color residual learning strategy, which not only boosts optimization speed but also enhances rendering quality. Extensive experiments on diverse indoor and outdoor datasets demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in both camera pose estimation accuracy and rendering quality, while retaining real-time efficiency. Additionally, we develop and deploy a real-world UAV-based active reconstruction system grounded on our proposed method, validating its robustness and generalizability for practical online 3D reconstruction tasks. Our code and data are available at https://github.com/TrickyGo/MoonSplat.
LangFlash: Feed-forward 3D Language Gaussian Splatting from Sparse Unposed Images
We present LangFlash, a feed-forward framework for 3D Language Gaussian Splatting that reconstructs 3D scenes parameterized by Gaussian primitives enriched with language-aligned semantic features from sparse unposed multi-view images. Unlike optimization-based 3D methods, LangFlash directly predicts the geometry and semantics in a single forward pass, enabling low-latency 3D reconstruction and language-consistent scene understanding. To support large-scale training, we enriched the RealEstate10k dataset with coherent and dense semantic information for 3D semantic supervision. Furthermore, we propose a sparse semantic encoding scheme that combines a global semantic dictionary with locally varying per-primitive weights, preserving high-level linguistic information, while reducing representation complexity. Experimental results show that LangFlash achieves superior novel view synthesis and semantic consistency compared with previous methods. This study establishes a new paradigm for pose-free, language-grounded 3D scene reconstruction, advancing generalizable 3D vision and multimodal scene understanding. Sparse Code Uplifting for Efficient 3D Language Gaussian Splatting
3D Language Gaussian Splatting (3DLGS) augments 3D Gaussian Splatting with language-aligned visual features for open-vocabulary 3D scene understanding. A core challenge is efficiently associating high-dimensional vision-language embeddings with millions of 3D Gaussians while preserving efficient feature rendering for text-based querying. Existing methods either store dense features directly on Gaussians, causing high storage costs and slow rendering, or learn compact representations through expensive per-scene optimization with repeated feature rasterization. No existing method simultaneously achieves fast 3D semantic reconstruction, efficient storage, and fast rendering. We propose SCOUP (Sparse COde UPlifting), which addresses all three by decoupling language representation learning from 3D Gaussian optimization. Rather than working directly in 3D, we learn sparse codebook-based representations entirely using features associated with 2D image regions, associating each region with a sparse set of codebook coefficients. We then uplift these coefficients to 3D Gaussians with our weighted sparse aggregation using Gaussian-to-pixel associations, where each Gaussian accumulates coefficients over codebook atoms across views. Top- filtering then extracts the most dominant multi-view coefficients per Gaussian, enabling efficient storage and fast rendering. Our method achieves up to training speedup while being more memory efficient during training compared to the state-of-the-art in rendering speed. Across multiple benchmarks, SCOUP matches or outperforms existing methods in open-vocabulary querying accuracy.
Ilov3Splat: Instance-Level Open-Vocabulary 3D Scene Understanding in Gaussian Splatting
We introduce Ilov3Splat, a novel framework for instance-level open-vocabulary 3D scene understanding built on 3D Gaussian Splatting (3D-GS). Most prior work depends on 2D rendering-based matching or point-level semantic association, which undermines cross-view consistency, lacks coherent instance-level reasoning, and limits precision in downstream 3D tasks. To address these limitations, our method jointly optimizes scene geometry and semantic representations by augmenting Gaussian splats with view-consistent feature fields. Specifically, we leverage multi-resolution hash embedding to efficiently encode language-aligned CLIP features, enabling dense and coherent language grounding in 3D space. We further train an instance feature field using contrastive loss over SAM masks, supporting fine-grained object distinction across views. At inference time, CLIP-encoded queries are matched against the learned features, followed by two-stage 3D clustering to retrieve relevant Gaussian groups. This enables our framework to identify arbitrary objects in 3D scenes based on natural language descriptions, without requiring category supervision or manual annotations. Experiments on standard benchmarks demonstrate that Ilov3Splat outperforms prior open-vocabulary 3D-GS methods in both object selection and instance segmentation, offering a flexible and accurate solution for language-driven 3D scene understanding. SparseLGS: Sparse View Language Embedded Gaussian Splatting
Recently, several studies have combined Gaussian Splatting to obtain scene representations with language embeddings for open-vocabulary 3D scene understanding. While these methods perform well, they essentially require very dense multi-view inputs, limiting their applicability in real-world scenarios. In this work, we propose SparseLGS to address the challenge of 3D scene understanding with pose-free and sparse view input images. Our method leverages a learning-based dense stereo model to handle pose-free and sparse inputs, and a three-step region matching approach to address the multi-view semantic inconsistency problem, which is especially important for sparse inputs. Different from directly learning high-dimensional CLIP features, we extract low-dimensional information and build bijections to avoid excessive learning and storage costs. We introduce a reconstruction loss during semantic training to improve Gaussian positions and shapes. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to address the 3D semantic field problem with sparse pose-free inputs. Experimental results show that SparseLGS achieves comparable quality when reconstructing semantic fields with fewer inputs (3-4 views) compared to previous SOTA methods with dense input. Besides, when using the same sparse input, SparseLGS leads significantly in quality and heavily improves the computation speed (5speedup). Project page: https://ustc3dv.github.io/SparseLGS
ATLAS Navigator: Active Task-driven LAnguage-embedded Gaussian Splatting
We address the challenge of task-oriented navigation in unstructured and unknown environments, where robots must incrementally build and reason on informative metric-semantic maps in real time. Since tasks may require clarification or re-specification, it is necessary for the information in the map to be rich enough to enable generalization across a wide range of tasks. To effectively execute tasks specified in natural language, we propose a hierarchical representation built on language-embedded Gaussian splatting that enables both sparse semantic planning that lends itself to online operation and dense geometric representation for collision-free navigation. We validate the effectiveness of our method through real-world robot experiments on a ground robot equipped with only vision-based sensing. The experiments are conducted in both cluttered indoor and kilometer-scale outdoor environments, covering more than 2 km and 47,000 square meters of area. We achieve a competitive ratio of about 59% relative to the shortest possible path, demonstrating efficient exploration and semantic navigation in challenging real-world environments.
