Haptic Feedback
Overview
Haptic feedback studies how devices can communicate contact, force, texture, stiffness, and guidance through the skin or through motion-resisting interfaces. Approaches include wearable vibration, pneumatic and electrostatic displays, force-feedback exoskeletons, and control methods that keep simulated or remote interactions stable and responsive. Applications span virtual reality, robotic teleoperation, surgery, rehabilitation, assistive devices, and tactile input for robot learning. A central challenge is balancing perceptual realism and useful spatial detail with device comfort, cost, latency, safety, and reliable performance across users and tasks.
