Information Design
Overview
Information design asks how a sender or platform should reveal, hide, or organize information when recipients use it to make decisions. Common approaches include Bayesian persuasion, signaling and disclosure models, mechanism design, and computational methods such as linear programs and deep learning. Applications range from marketplaces and strategic games to school choice and human-AI decision systems, where information can affect welfare, revenue, fairness, and market concentration. A central challenge is that the same disclosure can help one goal while harming another, especially when recipients interpret signals strategically or learn to game the system.
