Multi-View 3D Reconstruction

Overview

Multi-view 3D reconstruction combines images or video from different viewpoints to estimate camera poses, depth, surfaces, and sometimes appearance or motion. Classical structure-from-motion and multi-view stereo rely on feature matching, triangulation, and bundle adjustment, while neural methods use NeRFs, Gaussian splatting, and feed-forward geometry transformers to infer 3D from images. Current work also adds depth and vision-model priors, selects informative views, and handles difficult cases such as uncalibrated cameras, dynamic scenes, reflective materials, and wide-angle or satellite imagery. A central challenge is balancing accurate, complete geometry across sparse or inconsistent views with the speed, memory, and generalization needed for large-scale and real-time use.

RayRoPE: Projective Ray Positional Encoding for Multi-view Attention

We study positional encodings for multi-view transformers that process tokens from a set of posed input images, and seek a mechanism that encodes patches uniquely, allows SE(3)-invariant attention with multi-frequency similarity, and can adapt to the geometry of the underlying 3D scene. We find that prior (absolute or relative) encoding schemes for multi-view attention do not meet these desiderata, and present RayRoPE to address this gap. RayRoPE represents patch positions based on associated rays and computes query-frame projective coordinates to ensure SE(3) invariance. To adapt to scene geometry, RayRoPE predicts (without direct supervision) a per-token depth to obtain its position along the corresponding ray, while also modeling uncertainty and analytically computing the expected positional encoding. We validate our method on the tasks of novel-view synthesis, stereo depth estimation, and feed-forward 3DGS reconstruction. While remaining efficient, RayRoPE consistently improves over alternate position encoding schemes (e.g., 24% relative improvement on LPIPS in RE10K).

PLANA3R: Zero-shot Metric Planar 3D Reconstruction via Feed-Forward Planar Splatting

This paper addresses metric 3D reconstruction of indoor scenes by exploiting their inherent geometric regularities with compact representations. Using planar 3D primitives - a well-suited representation for man-made environments - we introduce PLANA3R, a pose-free framework for metric Planar 3D Reconstruction from unposed two-view images. Our approach employs Vision Transformers to extract a set of sparse planar primitives, estimate relative camera poses, and supervise geometry learning via planar splatting, where gradients are propagated through high-resolution rendered depth and normal maps of primitives. Unlike prior feedforward methods that require 3D plane annotations during training, PLANA3R learns planar 3D structures without explicit plane supervision, enabling scalable training on large-scale stereo datasets using only depth and normal annotations. We validate PLANA3R on multiple indoor-scene datasets with metric supervision and demonstrate strong generalization to out-of-domain indoor environments across diverse tasks under metric evaluation protocols, including 3D surface reconstruction, depth estimation, and relative pose estimation. Furthermore, by formulating with planar 3D representation, our method emerges with the ability for accurate plane segmentation. The project page is available at https://lck666666.github.io/plana3r

OmniRaindrop: A Comprehensive Benchmark for Dual-Focused Raindrop Removal under Day and Night Scenes

Adherent raindrops on camera lenses are a pervasive source of real-world image degradation, undermining outdoor visual perception for downstream applications such as robotics and 3D scene reconstruction. However, most existing raindrop datasets and methods target only background-focused 2D images, overlooking the equally common raindrop-focused case and the impact of raindrops on 3D scene reconstruction. Moreover, they are almost exclusively daytime, lacking the complex artificial lighting and reflections of nighttime raindrop scenes. To address these issues, we introduce OmniRaindrop, a real-world dataset and benchmark that jointly evaluates 2D raindrop removal and 3D scene reconstruction across raindrop-focused and background-focused captures, under both daytime and nighttime conditions. OmniRaindrop provides spatially aligned raindrop-focused, background-focused, and rain-free ground-truth image sets: a 2D subset of 15,186 aligned pairs/triplets and a 3D subset of 40 real-world scenes evenly split between day and night, totaling 3,822 multi-view images. On top of this data, the benchmark traces how raindrop degradation propagates from 2D restoration to 3D reconstruction by testing representative restoration methods and their effects on pose estimation, point cloud initialization, and 3DGS optimization. Comprehensive experiments reveal that raindrop-focused scenes are substantially harder than background-focused ones, and that errors in 2D restoration and pose/point cloud initialization cascade into degraded 3D reconstruction, pointing to clear directions for more robust 2D restoration and 3DGS design. Building on the dataset, we have organized two consecutive NTIRE challenges (2025 and 2026) on Day and Night Raindrop Removal for Dual-Focused Images.

Object-Reconstruction-Aware Whole-body Control of Mobile Manipulators

Object reconstruction and inspection tasks play a crucial role in various robotics applications. Identifying paths that reveal the most unknown areas of the object is paramount in this context, as it directly affects reconstruction efficiency. Current methods often use sampling based path planning techniques, evaluating views along the path to enhance reconstruction performance. However, these methods are computationally expensive as they require evaluating several candidate views on the path. To this end, we propose a computationally efficient solution that relies on calculating a focus point in the most informative region and having the robot maintain this point in the camera field of view along the path. In this way, object reconstruction related information is incorporated into the whole body control of a mobile manipulator employing a visibility constraint without the need for an additional path planner. We conducted comprehensive and realistic simulations using a large dataset of 114 diverse objects of varying sizes from 57 categories to compare our method with a sampling based planning strategy and a strategy that does not employ informative paths using Bayesian data analysis. Furthermore, to demonstrate the applicability and generality of the proposed approach, we conducted real world experiments with an 8 DoF omnidirectional mobile manipulator and a legged manipulator. Our results suggest that, compared to a sampling based strategy, there is no statistically significant difference in object reconstruction entropy, and there is a 52.3% probability that they are practically equivalent in terms of coverage. In contrast, our method is 6.2 to 19.36 times faster in terms of computation time and reduces the total time the robot spends between views by 13.76% to 27.9%, depending on the camera FoV and model resolution.

Ov3R: Open-Vocabulary Semantic 3D Reconstruction from RGB Videos

We present Ov3R, a novel framework for open-vocabulary semantic 3D reconstruction from RGB video streams, designed to advance Spatial AI. The system features two key components: CLIP3R, a CLIP-informed 3D reconstruction module that predicts dense point maps from overlapping clips while embedding object-level semantics; and 2D-3D OVS, a 2D-3D open-vocabulary semantic module that lifts 2D features into 3D by learning fused descriptors integrating spatial, geometric, and semantic cues. Unlike prior methods, Ov3R incorporates CLIP semantics directly into the reconstruction process, enabling globally consistent geometry and fine-grained semantic alignment. Our framework achieves state-of-the-art performance in both dense 3D reconstruction and open-vocabulary 3D segmentation, marking a step forward toward real-time, semantics-aware Spatial AI.

Camera Movement Estimation and Path Correction using the Combination of Modified A-SIFT and Stereo System for 3D Modelling

Creating accurate and efficient 3D models poses significant challenges, particularly in addressing large viewpoint variations, computational complexity, and alignment discrepancies. Efficient camera path generation can help resolve these issues. In this context, a modified version of the Affine Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (ASIFT) is proposed to extract more matching points with reduced computational overhead, ensuring an adequate number of inliers for precise camera rotation angle estimation. Additionally, a novel two-camera-based rotation correction model is introduced to mitigate small rotational errors, further enhancing accuracy. Furthermore, a stereo camera-based translation estimation and correction model is implemented to determine camera movement in 3D space by altering the Structure From Motion (SFM) model. Finally, the novel combination of ASIFT and two camera-based SFM models provides an accurate camera movement trajectory in 3D space. Experimental results show that the proposed camera movement approach achieves 99.9% accuracy compared to the actual camera movement path and outperforms state-of-the-art camera path estimation methods. By leveraging this accurate camera path, the system facilitates the creation of precise 3D models, making it a robust solution for applications requiring high fidelity and efficiency in 3D reconstruction.

GSurf: Learning Signed Distance Fields from Splatting Opaque Gaussians for High-quality 3D Reconstruction

High-fidelity surface reconstruction from multi-view images is a core problem in 3D computer vision. While neural implicit surfaces like SDFs offer smooth geometry, they are often bottlenecked by the computational intensity of volume rendering. Conversely, 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) provides rapid training but lacks geometry continuity, often leading to fragmented surfaces. This paper presents a novel framework that integrates Signed Distance Fields directly into the splatting pipeline. By leveraging the continuous nature of SDFs to regularize Gaussian primitives, our method effectively fills geometric holes and suppresses noise inherent in sparse point clouds. Unlike hybrid approaches that rely on heavy volumetric sampling, our approach utilizes the efficiency of splatting to achieve faster convergence. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that our method produces high-quality surfaces with significantly fewer primitives, offering a more compact and efficient representation for both indoor and outdoor environments.

Multi-view Hand Reconstruction with a Point-Embedded Transformer

This work introduces a novel and generalizable multi-view Hand Mesh Reconstruction (HMR) model, named POEM, designed for practical use in real-world hand motion capture scenarios. The advances of the POEM model consist of two main aspects. First, concerning the modeling of the problem, we propose embedding a static basis point within the multi-view stereo space. A point represents a natural form of 3D information and serves as an ideal medium for fusing features across different views, given its varied projections across these views. Consequently, our method harnesses a simple yet effective idea: a complex 3D hand mesh can be represented by a set of 3D basis points that 1) are embedded in the multi-view stereo, 2) carry features from the multi-view images, and 3) encompass the hand in it. The second advance lies in the training strategy. We utilize a combination of five large-scale multi-view datasets and employ randomization in the number, order, and poses of the cameras. By processing such a vast amount of data and a diverse array of camera configurations, our model demonstrates notable generalizability in the real-world applications. As a result, POEM presents a highly practical, plug-and-play solution that enables user-friendly, cost-effective multi-view motion capture for both left and right hands.
