Overview

Multimodal generation studies models that create outputs such as images, video, speech, motion, or scientific signals from text, media, or combinations of them. Common approaches include diffusion and flow-matching decoders, autoregressive or discrete-token models, shared latent spaces, and systems that connect vision-language models to modality-specific generators; planning and reinforcement learning can add control for complex or interleaved outputs. A major direction is building models that both understand and generate, with benchmarks measuring prompt adherence, fidelity, temporal and cross-modal coherence, and task-specific validity. An open challenge is enabling shared models to turn understanding into faithful, controllable generation without modality imbalance or loss of specialized quality, especially over long sequences and varied real-world inputs.

Pseudo-Unification: Entropy Probing Reveals Divergent Information Patterns in Unified Multimodal Models

Unified multimodal models (UMMs) were designed to combine the reasoning ability of large language models (LLMs) with the generation capability of vision models. In practice, however, this synergy remains elusive: UMMs fail to transfer LLM-like reasoning to image synthesis and exhibit divergent response behaviors. We term this phenomenon pseudo-unification. Diagnosing its internal causes is important, but existing probing methods either lack model-internal insight or ignore prompt-response dependencies. To address these limitations, we propose an information-theoretic probing framework that jointly analyzes how UMMs encode inputs and generate outputs. Applied to ten representative UMMs, our framework reveals that pseudo-unification stems from a dual divergence: (i) Modality-Asymmetric Encoding, where vision and language follow different entropy trajectories, and (ii) Pattern-Split Response, where text generation exhibits high-entropy creativity while image synthesis enforces low-entropy fidelity. Only models that unify both sides (e.g., via contextual prediction) achieve more genuine unification, enabling stronger reasoning-based text-to-image generation even with fewer parameters. Our work provides the first model-internal probing of unification, demonstrating that real multimodal synergy requires consistency in information flow, not just shared parameters.

TorchUMM: A Unified Multimodal Model Codebase for Evaluation, Analysis, and Post-training

Recent advances in unified multimodal models (UMMs) have led to a proliferation of architectures capable of understanding, generating, and editing across visual and textual modalities. However, developing a unified framework for UMMs remains challenging due to the diversity of model architectures and the heterogeneity of training paradigms and implementation details. In this paper, we present TorchUMM, the first unified codebase for comprehensive evaluation, analysis, and post-training across diverse UMM backbones, tasks, and datasets. TorchUMM supports a broad spectrum of models covering a wide range of scales and design paradigms. Our benchmark encompasses three core task dimensions: multimodal understanding, generation, and editing, and integrates both established and novel datasets to evaluate perception, reasoning, compositionality, and instruction-following abilities. By providing a unified interface and standardized evaluation protocols, TorchUMM enables fair and reproducible comparisons across heterogeneous models and fosters deeper insights into their strengths and limitations, facilitating the development of more capable unified multimodal systems. Deep-Reporter: Deep Research for Grounded Multimodal Long-Form Generation

Recent agentic search frameworks enable deep research via iterative planning and retrieval, reducing hallucinations and enhancing factual grounding. However, they remain text-centric, overlooking the multimodal evidence that characterizes real-world expert reports. We introduce a pressing task: multimodal long-form generation. Accordingly, we propose Deep-Reporter, a unified agentic framework for grounded multimodal long-form generation. It orchestrates: (i) Agentic Multimodal Search and Filtering to retrieve and filter textual passages and information-dense visuals; (ii) Checklist-Guided Incremental Synthesis to ensure coherent image-text integration and optimal citation placement; and (iii) Recurrent Context Management to balance long-range coherence with local fluency. We develop a rigorous curation pipeline producing 8K high-quality agentic traces for model optimization. We further introduce M2LongBench, a comprehensive testbed comprising 247 research tasks across 9 domains and a stable multimodal sandbox. Extensive experiments demonstrate that long-form multimodal generation is a challenging task, especially in multimodal selection and integration, and effective post-training can bridge the gap.

MAGE: Modality-Agnostic Music Generation and Target-Source Extraction

Recent advances in multimodal audio generation have enabled music synthesis from text, visual cues, and other high-level conditions. However, most systems are designed for a single operating mode: either generating music without a reference mixture or extracting a target source from an existing mixture. This fixed-task design limits their use when different combinations of text, visual, and mixture inputs are available. To address this gap, we propose MAGE, a modality-agnostic framework for conditional music generation and mixture-grounded target-source extraction within a shared continuous latent space. Our approach introduces three key components. First, a Controlled Multimodal FluxFormer models the conditional flow from noise to a target audio latent, enabling the same backbone to operate with or without a mixture condition. Second, Audio-Visual Nexus Alignment maps frame-level visual features onto the audio latent sequence, allowing visual evidence to condition the generation process at the audio-token level. Third, a cross-gated modulation mechanism uses the aligned visual representation to regulate intermediate audio features, while text provides separate semantic guidance. We further train MAGE with dynamic modality masking, exposing the same model to text-only, visual-only, joint text-visual, mixture-conditioned, and unconditional configurations. Experiments on the MUSIC benchmark evaluate MAGE under separate protocols for mixture-free generation and mixture-grounded target-source extraction. The results show that MAGE provides a shared conditioning interface across both settings, and that the proposed alignment and gating components improve interference suppression in the extraction task.

PolySLGen: Online Multimodal Speaking-Listening Reaction Generation in Polyadic Interaction

Human-like multimodal reaction generation is essential for natural group interactions between humans and embodied AI. However, existing approaches are limited to single-modality or speaking-only responses in dyadic interactions, making them unsuitable for realistic social scenarios. Many also overlook nonverbal cues and complex dynamics of polyadic interactions, both critical for engagement and conversational coherence. In this work, we present PolySLGen, an online framework for Polyadic multimodal Speaking and Listening reaction Generation. Given past conversation and motion from all participants, PolySLGen generates a future speaking or listening reaction for a target participant, including speech, body motion, and speaking state score. To model group interactions effectively, we propose a pose fusion module and a social cue encoder that jointly aggregate motion and social signals from the group. Extensive experiments, along with quantitative and qualitative evaluations, show that PolySLGen produces contextually appropriate and temporally coherent multi-modal reactions, outperforming several adapted and state-of-the-art baselines in motion quality, motion-speech alignment, speaking state prediction, and human-perceived realism.

Symbiotic-MoE: Unlocking the Synergy between Generation and Understanding

Empowering Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) with image generation often leads to catastrophic forgetting in understanding tasks due to severe gradient conflicts. While existing paradigms like Mixture-of-Transformers (MoT) mitigate this conflict through structural isolation, they fundamentally sever cross-modal synergy and suffer from capacity fragmentation. In this work, we present Symbiotic-MoE, a unified pre-training framework that resolves task interference within a native multimodal Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) Transformers architecture with zero-parameter overhead. We first identify that standard MoE tuning leads to routing collapse, where generative gradients dominate expert utilization. To address this, we introduce Modality-Aware Expert Disentanglement, which partitions experts into task-specific groups while utilizing shared experts as a multimodal semantic bridge. Crucially, this design allows shared experts to absorb fine-grained visual semantics from generative tasks to enrich textual representations. To optimize this, we propose a Progressive Training Strategy featuring differential learning rates and early-stage gradient shielding. This mechanism not only shields pre-trained knowledge from early volatility but eventually transforms generative signals into constructive feedback for understanding. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Symbiotic-MoE achieves rapid generative convergence while unlocking cross-modal synergy, boosting inherent understanding with remarkable gains on MMLU and OCRBench.

FlowInOne:Unifying Multimodal Generation as Image-in, Image-out Flow Matching

Multimodal generation has long been dominated by text-driven pipelines where language dictates vision but cannot reason or create within it. We challenge this paradigm by asking whether all modalities, including textual descriptions, spatial layouts, and editing instructions, can be unified into a single visual representation. We present FlowInOne, a framework that reformulates multimodal generation as a purely visual flow, converting all inputs into visual prompts and enabling a clean image-in, image-out pipeline governed by a single flow matching model. This vision-centric formulation naturally eliminates cross-modal alignment bottlenecks, noise scheduling, and task-specific architectural branches, unifying text-to-image generation, layout-guided editing, and visual instruction following under one coherent paradigm. To support this, we introduce VisPrompt-5M, a large-scale dataset of 5 million visual prompt pairs spanning diverse tasks including physics-aware force dynamics and trajectory prediction, alongside VP-Bench, a rigorously curated benchmark assessing instruction faithfulness, spatial precision, visual realism, and content consistency. Extensive experiments demonstrate that FlowInOne achieves state-of-the-art performance among open-source models across all unified generation tasks while remaining competitive with leading commercial systems, thereby establishing a new foundation for fully vision-centric generative modeling, in which perception and creation coexist within a unified continuous visual space. Evolution of Video Generative Foundations

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) has revolutionized video generation, enabling systems ranging from proprietary pioneers like OpenAI's Sora, Google's Veo3, and Bytedance's Seedance to powerful open-source contenders like Wan and HunyuanVideo to synthesize temporally coherent and semantically rich videos. These advancements pave the way for building "world models" that simulate real-world dynamics, with applications spanning entertainment, education, and virtual reality. However, existing reviews on video generation often focus on narrow technical fields, e.g., Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) and diffusion models, or specific tasks (e. g., video editing), lacking a comprehensive perspective on the field's evolution, especially regarding Auto-Regressive (AR) models and integration of multimodal information. To address these gaps, this survey firstly provides a systematic review of the development of video generation technology, tracing its evolution from early GANs to dominant diffusion models, and further to emerging AR-based and multimodal techniques. We conduct an in-depth analysis of the foundational principles, key advancements, and comparative strengths/limitations. Then, we explore emerging trends in multimodal video generation, emphasizing the integration of diverse data types to enhance contextual awareness. Finally, by bridging historical developments and contemporary innovations, this survey offers insights to guide future research in video generation and its applications, including virtual/augmented reality, personalized education, autonomous driving simulations, digital entertainment, and advanced world models, in this rapidly evolving field. EduIllustrate: Towards Scalable Automated Generation Of Multimodal Educational Content

Large language models are increasingly used as educational assistants, yet evaluation of their educational capabilities remains concentrated on question-answering and tutoring tasks. A critical gap exists for multimedia instructional content generation -- the ability to produce coherent, diagram-rich explanations that combine geometrically accurate visuals with step-by-step reasoning. We present EduIllustrate, a benchmark for evaluating LLMs on interleaved text-diagram explanation generation for K-12 STEM problems. The benchmark comprises 230 problems spanning five subjects and three grade levels, a standardized generation protocol with sequential anchoring to enforce cross-diagram visual consistency, and an 8-dimension evaluation rubric grounded in multimedia learning theory covering both text and visual quality. Evaluation of ten LLMs reveals a wide performance spread: Gemini 3.0 Pro Preview leads at 87.8%, while Kimi-K2.5 achieves the best cost-efficiency (80.8% at \0.12/problem).WorkflowablationconfirmssequentialanchoringimprovesVisualConsistencyby13%at94%lowercost.Humanevaluationwith20expertratersvalidatesLLM−as−judgereliabilityforobjectivedimensions(0.12/problem). Workflow ablation confirms sequential anchoring improves Visual Consistency by 13\% at 94\% lower cost. Human evaluation with 20 expert raters validates LLM-as-judge reliability for objective dimensions (ρ\geq 0.83$) while revealing limitations on subjective visual assessment.

A Generative Foundation Model for Multimodal Histopathology

Accurate diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases require integrating histological, molecular, and clinical data, yet in practice these modalities are often incomplete owing to tissue scarcity, assay cost, and workflow constraints. Existing computational approaches attempt to impute missing modalities from available data but rely on task-specific models trained on narrow, single source-target pairs, limiting their generalizability. Here we introduce MuPD (Multimodal Pathology Diffusion), a generative foundation model that embeds hematoxylin and eosin (H&E)-stained histology, molecular RNA profiles, and clinical text into a shared latent space through a diffusion transformer with decoupled cross-modal attention. Pretrained on 100 million histology image patches, 1.6 million text-histology pairs, and 10.8 million RNA-histology pairs spanning 34 human organs, MuPD supports diverse cross-modal synthesis tasks with minimal or no task-specific fine-tuning. For text-conditioned and image-to-image generation, MuPD synthesizes histologically faithful tissue architectures, reducing Fréchet inception distance (FID) scores by 50% relative to domain-specific models and improving few-shot classification accuracy by up to 47% through synthetic data augmentation. For RNA-conditioned histology generation, MuPD reduces FID by 23% compared with the next-best method while preserving cell-type distributions across five cancer types. As a virtual stainer, MuPD translates H&E images to immunohistochemistry and multiplex immunofluorescence, improving average marker correlation by 37% over existing approaches. These results demonstrate that a single, unified generative model pretrained across heterogeneous pathology modalities can substantially outperform specialized alternatives, providing a scalable computational framework for multimodal histopathology.

Omni123: Exploring 3D Native Foundation Models with Limited 3D Data by Unifying Text to 2D and 3D Generation

Recent multimodal large language models have achieved strong performance in unified text and image understanding and generation, yet extending such native capability to 3D remains challenging due to limited data. Compared to abundant 2D imagery, high-quality 3D assets are scarce, making 3D synthesis under-constrained. Existing methods often rely on indirect pipelines that edit in 2D and lift results into 3D via optimization, sacrificing geometric consistency. We present Omni123, a 3D-native foundation model that unifies text-to-2D and text-to-3D generation within a single autoregressive framework. Our key insight is that cross-modal consistency between images and 3D can serve as an implicit structural constraint. By representing text, images, and 3D as discrete tokens in a shared sequence space, the model leverages abundant 2D data as a geometric prior to improve 3D representations. We introduce an interleaved X-to-X training paradigm that coordinates diverse cross-modal tasks over heterogeneous paired datasets without requiring fully aligned text-image-3D triplets. By traversing semantic-visual-geometric cycles (e.g., text to image to 3D to image) within autoregressive sequences, the model jointly enforces semantic alignment, appearance fidelity, and multi-view geometric consistency. Experiments show that Omni123 significantly improves text-guided 3D generation and editing, demonstrating a scalable path toward multimodal 3D world models.

LatentUM: Unleashing the Potential of Interleaved Cross-Modal Reasoning via a Latent-Space Unified Model

Unified models (UMs) hold promise for their ability to understand and generate content across heterogeneous modalities. Compared to merely generating visual content, the use of UMs for interleaved cross-modal reasoning is more promising and valuable, e.g., for solving understanding problems that require dense visual thinking, improving visual generation through self-reflection, or modeling visual dynamics of the physical world guided by stepwise action interventions. However, existing UMs necessitate pixel decoding as a bridge due to their disjoint visual representations for understanding and generation, which is both ineffective and inefficient. In this paper, we introduce LatentUM, a novel unified model that represents all modalities within a shared semantic latent space, eliminating the need for pixel-space mediation between visual understanding and generation. This design naturally enables flexible interleaved cross-modal reasoning and generation. Beyond improved computational efficiency, the shared representation substantially alleviates codec bias and strengthens cross-modal alignment, allowing LatentUM to achieve state-of-the-art performance on the Visual Spatial Planning benchmark, push the limits of visual generation through self-reflection, and support world modeling by predicting future visual states within the shared semantic latent space.

AromaGen: Interactive Generation of Rich Olfactory Experiences with Multimodal Language Models

Smell's connections with food, memory, and social experience have motivated researchers to bring olfaction into interactive systems. Multimodal AI opens new possibilities for generating smells from natural language, yet it remains unclear whether pretrained models encode sufficient olfactory knowledge to translate language into perceptible compositions. We present AromaGen, an AI-powered 12-channel wearable olfactory system that maps free-form natural-language descriptions to 12 base odorants selected to cover a semantically derived olfactory space, while supporting iterative refinement through natural-language feedback. In a between-subjects study (N=60) across 50 real-world benchmark smells, participants distinguished AromaGen-generated target smells above chance in a three-alternative forced-choice task, with retrieval-augmented AI composition performing comparably to human-expert composition and zero-shot AI composition. Natural-language feedback significantly improved the perceived similarity of both AI- and human-expert compositions. Our findings demonstrate the feasibility of using pretrained multimodal AI, with human aroma composition data, to generate perceptible olfactory experiences from natural language.

MMFace-DiT: A Dual-Stream Diffusion Transformer for High-Fidelity Multimodal Face Generation

Recent multimodal face generation models address the spatial control limitations of text-to-image diffusion models by augmenting text-based conditioning with spatial priors such as segmentation masks, sketches, or edge maps. This multimodal fusion enables controllable synthesis aligned with both high-level semantic intent and low-level structural layout. However, most existing approaches typically extend pre-trained text-to-image pipelines by appending auxiliary control modules or stitching together separate uni-modal networks. These ad hoc designs inherit architectural constraints, duplicate parameters, and often fail under conflicting modalities or mismatched latent spaces, limiting their ability to perform synergistic fusion across semantic and spatial domains. We introduce MMFace-DiT, a unified dual-stream diffusion transformer engineered for synergistic multimodal face synthesis. Its core novelty lies in a dual-stream transformer block that processes spatial (mask/sketch) and semantic (text) tokens in parallel, deeply fusing them through a shared Rotary Position-Embedded (RoPE) Attention mechanism. This design prevents modal dominance and ensures strong adherence to both text and structural priors to achieve unprecedented spatial-semantic consistency for controllable face generation. Furthermore, a novel Modality Embedder enables a single cohesive model to dynamically adapt to varying spatial conditions without retraining. MMFace-DiT achieves a 40% improvement in visual fidelity and prompt alignment over six state-of-the-art multimodal face generation models, establishing a flexible new paradigm for end-to-end controllable generative modeling. GEMS: Agent-Native Multimodal Generation with Memory and Skills

Recent multimodal generation models have achieved remarkable progress on general-purpose generation tasks, yet continue to struggle with complex instructions and specialized downstream tasks. Inspired by the success of advanced agent frameworks such as Claude Code, we propose GEMS (Agent-Native Multimodal GEneration with Memory and Skills), a framework that pushes beyond the inherent limitations of foundational models on both general and downstream tasks. GEMS is built upon three core components. Agent Loop introduces a structured multi-agent framework that iteratively improves generation quality through closed-loop optimization. Agent Memory provides a persistent, trajectory-level memory that hierarchically stores both factual states and compressed experiential summaries, enabling a global view of the optimization process while reducing redundancy. Agent Skill offers an extensible collection of domain-specific expertise with on-demand loading, allowing the system to effectively handle diverse downstream applications. Across five mainstream tasks and four downstream tasks, evaluated on multiple generative backends, GEMS consistently achieves significant performance gains. Most notably, it enables the lightweight 6B model Z-Image-Turbo to surpass the state-of-the-art Nano Banana 2 on GenEval2, demonstrating the effectiveness of agent harness in extending model capabilities beyond their original limits.

LVRPO: Language-Visual Alignment with GRPO for Multimodal Understanding and Generation

Unified multimodal pretraining has emerged as a promising paradigm for jointly modeling language and vision within a single foundation model. However, existing approaches largely rely on implicit or indirect alignment signals and remain suboptimal for simultaneously supporting multimodal understanding and generation, particularly in settings that require fine-grained language-visual reasoning and controllable generation. In this work, we propose LVRPO, a language-visual reinforcement-based preference optimization framework that explicitly aligns language and visual representations using Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO). Instead of introducing additional alignment losses at the representation level, LVRPO directly optimizes multimodal model behaviors through preference-driven reinforcement signals, encouraging consistent and semantically grounded interactions between language and vision across both understanding and generation tasks. This formulation enables effective alignment without requiring auxiliary encoders or handcrafted cross-modal objectives, and naturally extends to diverse multimodal capabilities. Empirically, LVRPO consistently outperforms strong unified-pretraining baselines on a broad suite of benchmarks spanning multimodal understanding, generation, and reasoning.

Customized Visual Storytelling with Unified Multimodal LLMs

Multimodal story customization aims to generate coherent story flows conditioned on textual descriptions, reference identity images, and shot types. While recent progress in story generation has shown promising results, most approaches rely on text-only inputs. A few studies incorporate character identity cues (e.g., facial ID), but lack broader multimodal conditioning. In this work, we introduce VstoryGen, a multimodal framework that integrates descriptions with character and background references to enable customizable story generation. To enhance cinematic diversity, we introduce shot-type control via parameter-efficient prompt tuning on movie data, enabling the model to generate sequences that more faithfully reflect cinematic grammar. To evaluate our framework, we establish two new benchmarks that assess multimodal story customization from the perspectives of character and scene consistency, text-visual alignment, and shot-type control. Experiments demonstrate that VstoryGen achieves improved consistency and cinematic diversity compared to existing methods.

LongCat-Next: Lexicalizing Modalities as Discrete Tokens

The prevailing Next-Token Prediction (NTP) paradigm has driven the success of large language models through discrete autoregressive modeling. However, contemporary multimodal systems remain language-centric, often treating non-linguistic modalities as external attachments, leading to fragmented architectures and suboptimal integration. To transcend this limitation, we introduce Discrete Native Autoregressive (DiNA), a unified framework that represents multimodal information within a shared discrete space, enabling a consistent and principled autoregressive modeling across modalities. A key innovation is the Discrete Native Any-resolution Visual Transformer (dNaViT), which performs tokenization and de-tokenization at arbitrary resolutions, transforming continuous visual signals into hierarchical discrete tokens. Building on this foundation, we develop LongCat-Next, a native multimodal model that processes text, vision, and audio under a single autoregressive objective with minimal modality-specific design. As an industrial-strength foundation model, it excels at seeing, painting, and talking within a single framework, achieving strong performance across a wide range of multimodal benchmarks. In particular, LongCat-Next addresses the long-standing performance ceiling of discrete vision modeling on understanding tasks and provides a unified approach to effectively reconcile the conflict between understanding and generation. As an attempt toward native multimodality, we open-source the LongCat-Next and its tokenizers, hoping to foster further research and development in the community. OmniColor: A Unified Framework for Multi-modal Lineart Colorization

Lineart colorization is a critical stage in professional content creation, yet achieving precise and flexible results under diverse user constraints remains a significant challenge. To address this, we propose OmniColor, a unified framework for multi-modal lineart colorization that supports arbitrary combinations of control signals. Specifically, we systematically categorize guidance signals into two types: spatially-aligned conditions and semantic-reference conditions. For spatially-aligned inputs, we employ a dual-path encoding strategy paired with a Dense Feature Alignment loss to ensure rigorous boundary preservation and precise color restoration. For semantic-reference inputs, we utilize a VLM-only encoding scheme integrated with a Temporal Redundancy Elimination mechanism to filter repetitive information and enhance inference efficiency. To resolve potential input conflicts, we introduce an Adaptive Spatial-Semantic Gating module that dynamically balances multi-modal constraints. Experimental results demonstrate that OmniColor achieves superior controllability, visual quality, and temporal stability, providing a robust and practical solution for lineart colorization. The source code and dataset will be open at https://github.com/zhangxulu1996/OmniColor.

Spectral-Aware Text-to-Time Series Generation with Billion-Scale Multimodal Meteorological Data

Text-to-time-series generation is particularly important in meteorology, where natural language offers intuitive control over complex, multi-scale atmospheric dynamics. Existing approaches are constrained by the lack of large-scale, physically grounded multimodal datasets and by architectures that overlook the spectral-temporal structure of weather signals. We address these challenges with a unified framework for text-guided meteorological time-series generation. First, we introduce MeteoCap-3B, a billion-scale weather dataset paired with expert-level captions constructed via a Multi-agent Collaborative Captioning (MACC) pipeline, yielding information-dense and physically consistent annotations. Building on this dataset, we propose MTransformer, a diffusion-based model that enables precise semantic control by mapping textual descriptions into multi-band spectral priors through a Spectral Prompt Generator, which guides generation via frequency-aware attention. Extensive experiments on real-world benchmarks demonstrate state-of-the-art generation quality, accurate cross-modal alignment, strong semantic controllability, and substantial gains in downstream forecasting under data-sparse and zero-shot settings. Additional results on general time-series benchmarks indicate that the proposed framework generalizes beyond meteorology.

Wan-Weaver: Interleaved Multi-modal Generation via Decoupled Training

Recent unified models have made unprecedented progress in both understanding and generation. However, while most of them accept multi-modal inputs, they typically produce only single-modality outputs. This challenge of producing interleaved content is mainly due to training data scarcity and the difficulty of modeling long-range cross-modal context. To address this issue, we decompose interleaved generation into textual planning and visual consistency modeling, and introduce a framework consisting of a planner and a visualizer. The planner produces dense textual descriptions for visual content, while the visualizer synthesizes images accordingly. Under this guidance, we construct large-scale textual-proxy interleaved data (where visual content is represented in text) to train the planner, and curate reference-guided image data to train the visualizer. These designs give rise to Wan-Weaver, which exhibits emergent interleaved generation ability with long-range textual coherence and visual consistency. Meanwhile, the integration of diverse understanding and generation data into planner training enables Wan-Weaver to achieve robust task reasoning and generation proficiency. To assess the model's capability in interleaved generation, we further construct a benchmark that spans a wide range of use cases across multiple dimensions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that, even without access to any real interleaved data, Wan-Weaver achieves superior performance over existing methods.

OmniWeaving: Towards Unified Video Generation with Free-form Composition and Reasoning

While proprietary systems such as Seedance-2.0 have achieved remarkable success in omni-capable video generation, the academic research community lags far behind: most of its models remain heavily fragmented, and the few existing efforts toward unified video generation still struggle to seamlessly integrate diverse tasks within a single framework. To bridge this gap, we propose OmniWeaving, an omni-level video generation model featuring powerful multimodal composition and reasoning-informed capabilities. By leveraging a massive-scale pretraining dataset that encompasses diverse compositional and reasoning-augmented scenarios, OmniWeaving learns to temporally bind interleaved text, multi-image, and video inputs while acting as an intelligent agent to infer complex user intentions for sophisticated video creation. Furthermore, we introduce IntelligentVBench, the first comprehensive benchmark designed to rigorously assess next-level intelligent unified video generation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that OmniWeaving achieves SoTA performance among open-source academic unified models. The code and model are publicly available. M3T: Discrete Multi-Modal Motion Tokens for Sign Language Production

Sign language production requires more than hand motion generation. Non-manual features, including mouthings, eyebrow raises, gaze, and head movements, are grammatically obligatory and cannot be recovered from manual articulators alone. Existing 3D production systems face two barriers to integrating them: the body-model fittings they train on retain a facial space too low-dimensional to encode these articulations, and, if richer representations are adopted, standard discrete tokenization suffers from codebook collapse, leaving most of the expression space largely unreachable. We propose SMPL-FX, which couples FLAME's rich expression space with the SMPL-X body parameterisation, and tokenize the resulting representation with modality-specific Finite Scalar Quantization VAEs for body, hands, and face, raising face codebook utilization from 78.8% to 99.0%. M3T is an autoregressive transformer trained on this multi-modal motion vocabulary, with an auxiliary sign-to-text translation objective that encourages semantically grounded embeddings. Across three standard datasets, M3T achieves state-of-the-art sign language production quality, and on NMFs-CSL, where signs are distinguishable only by non-manual features, our model reaches 58.3% accuracy against 49.0% for the strongest comparable baseline, without large-scale sign-language pre-training. Seeing is Improving: Visual Feedback for Iterative Text Layout Refinement

Recent advances in Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have enabled automated generation of structured layouts from natural language descriptions. Existing methods typically follow a code-only paradigm that generates code to represent layouts, which are then rendered by graphic engines to produce final images. However, they are blind to the rendered visual outcome, making it difficult to guarantee readability and aesthetics. In this paper, we identify visual feedback as a critical factor in layout generation and propose Visual Feedback Layout Model (VFLM), a self-improving framework that leverages visual feedback iterative refinement. VFLM is capable of performing adaptive reflective generation, which leverages visual information to reflect on previous issues and iteratively generates outputs until satisfactory quality is achieved. It is achieved through reinforcement learning with a visually grounded reward model that incorporates OCR accuracy. By rewarding only the final generated outcome, we can effectively stimulate the model's iterative and reflective generative capabilities. Experiments across multiple benchmarks show that VFLM consistently outperforms advanced MLLMs, existing layout models, and code-only baselines, establishing visual feedback as critical for design-oriented MLLMs. Our code and data are available at https://github.com/FolSpark/VFLM.

Text-Image Conditioned 3D Generation

High-quality 3D assets are essential for VR/AR, industrial design, and entertainment, motivating growing interest in generative models that create 3D content from user prompts. Most existing 3D generators, however, rely on a single conditioning modality: image-conditioned models achieve high visual fidelity by exploiting pixel-aligned cues but suffer from viewpoint bias when the input view is limited or ambiguous, while text-conditioned models provide broad semantic guidance yet lack low-level visual detail. This limits how users can express intent and raises a natural question: can these two modalities be combined for more flexible and faithful 3D generation? Our diagnostic study shows that even simple late fusion of text- and image-conditioned predictions outperforms single-modality models, revealing strong cross-modal complementarity. We therefore formalize Text-Image Conditioned 3D Generation, which requires joint reasoning over a visual exemplar and a textual specification. To address this task, we introduce TIGON, a minimalist dual-branch baseline with separate image- and text-conditioned backbones and lightweight cross-modal fusion. Extensive experiments show that text-image conditioning consistently improves over single-modality methods, highlighting complementary vision-language guidance as a promising direction for future 3D generation research. OmniTrace: A Unified Framework for Generation-Time Source Attribution in Omni-Modal LLMs

An omni-modal language model can answer a question about a multimodal document, a recording, or a video, but it cannot show which part of the input the answer came from. Asking the model to cite its evidence yields what it says it used; measuring what it used has so far required rerunning it many times with parts of the input removed, a cost that grows with every second of audio and video. We show that the generation pass already holds most of this information. OmniTrace attributes each generated sentence to source units (text chunks, images, and seconds of audio or video) by reading late-layer attention as mass over units with no extra forward pass and no per-modality tuning; head weights can be trained where ablation data are available. With fixed causal test setting, the units OmniTrace selects are causally important for responses and for individual sentences in video, audio, and image-text question answering on Qwen3-Omni-30B, MiniCPM-o 4.5 and Qwen2.5-Omni-7B. With one generation pass, OmniTrace recovers 77-96% of the effect of leave-one-out attribution, which needs up to 41 extra passes. OmniTrace also agrees best with human-marked evidence: its response-level rankings reach an AUROC of 0.83 on documents and 0.64 on video, against 0.76 and 0.60 for the strongest baseline.

Enhancing Alignment for Unified Multimodal Models via Semantically-Grounded Supervision

Unified Multimodal Models (UMMs) have emerged as a promising paradigm that integrates multimodal understanding and generation within a unified modeling framework. However, current generative training paradigms suffer from inherent limitations. We present Semantically-Grounded Supervision (SeGroS), a fine-tuning framework designed to resolve the granularity mismatch and supervisory redundancy in UMMs. At its core, we propose a novel visual grounding map to construct two complementary supervision signals. First, we formulate semantic Visual Hints to compensate for the sparsity of text prompts. Second, we generate a semantically-grounded Corrupted Input to explicitly enhance the supervision of masking-based UMMs by restricting the reconstruction loss to core text-aligned regions. Extensive evaluations on GenEval, DPGBench, and CompBench demonstrate that SeGroS significantly improves generation fidelity and cross-modal alignment across various UMM architectures.

Do Understanding and Generation Fight? A Diagnostic Study of DPO for Unified Multimodal Models

Unified multimodal models share a language model backbone for both understanding and generating images. Can DPO align both capabilities simultaneously? We present the first systematic study of this question, applying DPO to Janus-Pro at 1B and 7B parameters under seven training strategies and two post-hoc methods. The central finding is negative: generation quality resists DPO alignment across all tested conditions on this architecture. No method improves generation CLIPScore at 7B (|Delta| < 0.2, p > 0.5 at n=200 per seed, 3 seeds); at 1B, all methods degrade generation, and the result holds across preference data types (real-vs-generated and model-vs-model) and the data volumes tested (150-288 pairs). Gradient analysis reveals why: understanding and generation gradients are near-orthogonal (cos ~ 0) with ~11-14x magnitude imbalance driven by VQ token count asymmetry (576 generation tokens vs. ~30-100 text tokens). This imbalance is the dominant interference mechanism in multi-task DPO; magnitude-balancing yields directionally positive understanding deltas (+0.01-0.04 VQA, though individually not significant), but the generation gap persists regardless. We identify discrete VQ tokenization as a likely structural bottleneck -- supported by the generation DPO loss converging to ln(2) -- and provide practical guidance for practitioners working with VQ-based unified models.

Complementarity-Preserving Generative Theory for Multimodal ECG Synthesis: A Quantum-Inspired Approach

Multimodal deep learning has substantially improved electrocardiogram (ECG) classification by jointly leveraging time, frequency, and time-frequency representations. However, existing generative models typically synthesize these modalities independently, resulting in synthetic ECG data that are visually plausible yet physiologically inconsistent across domains. This work establishes a Complementarity-Preserving Generative Theory (CPGT), which posits that physiologically valid multimodal signal generation requires explicit preservation of cross-domain complementarity rather than loosely coupled modality synthesis. We instantiate CPGT through Q-CFD-GAN, a quantum-inspired generative framework that models multimodal ECG structure within a complex-valued latent space and enforces complementarity-aware constraints regulating mutual information, redundancy, and morphological coherence. Experimental evaluation demonstrates that Q-CFD-GAN reduces latent embedding variance by 82%, decreases classifier-based plausibility error by 26.6%, and restores tri-domain complementarity from 0.56 to 0.91, while achieving the lowest observed morphology deviation (3.8%). These findings show that preserving multimodal information geometry, rather than optimizing modality-specific fidelity alone, is essential for generating synthetic ECG signals that remain physiologically meaningful and suitable for downstream clinical machine-learning applications.

HYDRA: Representation Harmonized Tokenization for Multimodal Generation and Understanding

Unified Multimodal Models struggle to bridge the fundamental gap between the abstract representations needed for visual understanding and the detailed primitives required for generation. Existing approaches typically compromise by employing decoupled encoders, stacking representation encoder atop VAEs, or utilizing discrete quantization. However, these methods often disrupt information coherence and lead to optimization conflicts. To this end, we introduce HYDRA-TOK, a representation-harmonized pure ViT in the insight that visual modeling should evolve from generation to understanding. HYDRA-TOK reformulates the standard backbone into a progressive learner that transitions from a Gen-ViT, which captures structure-preserving primitives, to a Sem-ViT for semantic encoding. Crucially, this transition is mediated by a Generation-Semantic Bottleneck (GSB), which compresses features into a low-dimensional space to filter noise for robust synthesis, then restores dimensionality to empower complex semantic comprehension. Built upon this foundation, we present HYDRA, a native unified framework integrating perception and generation within a single parameter space. Extensive experiments establish HYDRA as a new state-of-the-art. It sets a benchmark in visual reconstruction (rFID 0.08) and achieves top-tier generation performance on GenEval (0.86), DPG-Bench (86.4), and WISE (0.53), while simultaneously outperforming previous native UMMs by an average of ~10.0 points across eight challenging understanding benchmarks.
