Personalized Text Generation
Overview
Personalized text generation studies how to make model outputs reflect an individual’s voice, preferences, and situation while remaining useful and faithful to the task. Common approaches retrieve relevant details from user profiles or interaction histories, steer generation toward style or preference representations, and optimize models with preference rewards or feedback-driven selection. Evaluation uses writing and recommendation benchmarks, style and authorship measures, and human judgments of quality, fidelity, and persuasiveness. A central challenge is that automated metrics can miss whether text genuinely feels personal, while collecting the signals needed for personalization raises concerns about sparse data, privacy, fairness, and preserving each user’s distinct voice.
