A Three-Dimensional Reverse-Projection Method for Sparse Point Cloud Completion and Its Application to High-Speed Train Nose Reconstruction

Holes in LiDAR scans of environments with glass windows remain an unresolved problem in three-dimensional reconstruction. This study presents a pipeline for point cloud acquisition, filtering, completion, and surface reconstruction to address sparse sampling and missing window regions in scans of a high-speed train nose. FAST-LIVO2 provides the initial point cloud through multisensor odometry and mapping, and moving least squares (MLS) smooths the observations. We then introduce three-axis projection-based subdivision and interpolation with reverse hole boundary identification, referred to as three-axis reverse completion. The method interpolates missing regions from observations around each hole. Greedy projection triangulation, Poisson surface reconstruction, and a Marching Cubes-based pipeline generate meshes from the completed point cloud. Experiments on a proportionally scaled display model of a high-speed train nose show that the proposed method fills missing point cloud regions around the glass windows. Under the evaluation setting used in this study, greedy projection triangulation yields lower geometric distance errors than the other two reconstruction pipelines. The pipeline supports non-contact digital modeling of train nose geometry and provides a practical approach to reconstructing objects with glass windows.

Collision-Aware and Observation-Aligned Object-Centric Scene Reconstruction from Point Cloud

Object-centric scene reconstruction requires completing partial object observations while preserving metric alignment and avoiding collisions with the surrounding. Existing generation-based methods are often image-conditioned and suffer from scale ambiguity and insufficient geometric constraints. We propose COOL, a framework for COllision-aware and Observation-aLigned reconstruction. Based on an object generation model, COOL conditions the generation on instance and background point clouds. Instance geometry anchors generation in scene coordinates, while background geometry provides local context for scene-consistent completion. We further introduce an explicit collision loss and use joint optimization and resampling to reduce collisions during inference. Experiments on 3D-Front and Scan2CAD demonstrate strong scene-level fidelity, observation alignment, and collision reduction. Moreover, additional studies validate its robustness to mask errors and its applicability to real-world scene replicas.

ZVeC: A Zero-Shot Framework for Instance-Level Vehicle Extraction and Generative Point Cloud Completion

LiDAR point clouds acquired in underground environments exhibit severe geometric incompleteness due to occlusions and limited sensor viewpoints, making reliable point cloud completion challenging without large supervised datasets. We propose ZVeC, a zero-shot, instance-driven framework that reformulates scene-level completion as compositional object-level reconstruction. By decomposing a scene into semantic object instances, ZVeC reduces reconstruction ambiguity in cluttered environments while eliminating the need for scenario-specific training. Each segmented vehicle is completed independently using a depth- and 3D Gaussian-conditioned diffusion model that exploits generalized geometric priors before the reconstructed instances are recomposed into the original scene. To evaluate our approach, we construct a real-world dense LiDAR benchmark of underground parking environments. Experimental results demonstrate consistent improvements over representative scene-level baselines in both quantitative metrics and visual quality. The completed point cloud differs substantially from the measured input (average KL divergence ~ 2.1), yet reducing the input to only 1% of the original LiDAR measurements changes the completed reconstruction only marginally (KL divergence < 0.50). This demonstrates that ZVeC produces geometrically consistent completions even under extreme input sparsity.

ScaleBlind: Point Cloud Completion under Unknown Scale

Point cloud completion aims to infer a complete 3D shape from a partial point cloud and serves as a fundamental building block for downstream tasks such as reconstruction, editing, and simulation. Despite the recent progress, existing learning-based methods often implicitly rely on access to the ground-truth shape scale (GT-scale) during both training- and testing-time normalization, assuming privileged information that is unavailable in real-world inference. This hidden assumption limits practical deployment and can lead to severe completion artifacts, e.g., over- or under-completion and nested shells, once the oracle GT-scale cue is removed. We observe that the recent foundation image generation models exhibit a strong capability of understanding objects and geometries, and producing multi-view consistent renderings, making them promising priors for GT-scale-free 3D completion. Motivated by this insight, we propose ScaleBlind, a novel framework that leverages foundation-model-based image completion to recover global scale directly from partial inputs and then faithfully produces the 3D completion. Specifically, ScaleBlind dreams out complete multi-view appearances from rendered partial views, lifts the inferred missing regions back into 3D to obtain a geometry-aware coarse completion, and further refines it via a powerful cross-modal fusion network with the original partial point cloud. By harnessing 2D foundation priors, our method eliminates the need for accessing GT-scale information at inference. Moreover, it provides a principled bridge between 2D generative priors and 3D point cloud completion. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of our framework, making ScaleBlind the new state-of-the-art for the point cloud completion task.

UBone3D: Physics-Rectified Conditional Flow Matching for Anatomical 3D Shape Completion from Ultrasound

Three-dimensional ultrasound (US) is a safe, radiation-free complementary modality to CT and X-rays for longitudinal monitoring, yet its segmentation-derived partial point clouds are extremely artifact-laden. Consequently, it is challenging to recover a clean and complete anatomical structure from such US point clouds. In this paper, we present UBone3D, a novel framework based on physics-rectified conditional flow matching (CFM) that performs point cloud completion directly from partial US observations. UBone3D models deterministic physics artifacts (e.g., surface thickening, streaking, dropouts) via a simulated physics proxy, and introduces test-time physics rectification to steer the shape completion. At inference, the completion is jointly steered by two decoupled forces: (1) anatomical plausibility enforced by a CT-trained generative shape prior, BoneFM, and (2) physics consistency enforced by USimNet in the ultrasound formation space. Extensive experiments on simulated and in-vivo data demonstrate significant improvements in reconstruction accuracy and anatomical fidelity over existing baselines.

SUMI: Scalable Unified Model for 3D Point Cloud Inference

Point cloud completion commonly follows a coarse-to-fine paradigm, where a low-density coarse shape is first predicted and then upsampled to the target resolution. Although recent methods have improved global structure recovery, the fine stage often remains limited by simple upsampling and insufficient interaction with coarse structural features, making local detail reconstruction challenging. We propose SUMI, a diffusion-enhanced refinement module for coarse-to-fine point cloud completion. Unlike prior diffusion-based completion methods that use diffusion as a standalone point generator, SUMI injects noisy geometric features into cross-attention with coarse structural features, enabling reverse denoising to refine local geometry while preserving global consistency. SUMI can also be integrated into existing coarse-to-fine models as a flexible refinement module. Experiments on PCN, ShapeNet-55/34, and MVP demonstrate consistent improvements over strong baselines. SUMI achieves the best overall CD and F1-score on PCN, reduces CD by up to 16.1% on ShapeNet-55, and obtains the best CD across all output densities on MVP.

FPSGen: Flexible Point Cloud Scene Generation with BEV-Supported Transport Flows

Existing point-based generative methods for outdoor scenes primarily focus on LiDAR-conditioned completion. During training, noisy point clouds are constructed by perturbing complete ground-truth scenes, whereas during inference, they are initialized by adding noise to duplicated partial scans. This train-inference mismatch inherits the sparsity and visibility bias of partial scans, leading to sparse distant regions and incomplete geometry in occluded areas. Moreover, the reliance on partial scans restricts generation when LiDAR observations are unavailable or replaced by layout cues. We present FPSGen, a flexible framework that constructs point sources independently of partial scans. FPSGen first predicts a bird's-eye-view (BEV) prior with density, height, and mask channels from the active cues. The density map is then sampled to form a BEV-supported point source, enabling both unconditional and conditioned initialization. A teacher-student approximate optimal transport scheme then uses teacher-predicted endpoints to learn a velocity field that induces straighter transport paths. By integrating BEV point source construction with path-straightening transport, FPSGen provides a unified framework for unconditional and flexible cue-conditioned scene generation. Extensive experiments show that FPSGen achieves state-of-the-art JSD and voxel IoU performance on SemanticKITTI completion while maintaining strong performance with a single point transport step. On KITTI-360 unconditional generation, it also achieves the best Coverage (COV) among the compared methods.

MAGE: View-guided Point Cloud Completion with Efficient Modality Alignment and Adaptive Geometry Enhancement

View-based point cloud completion aims to recover a complete 3D shape from a partial point cloud, guided by a single-view image. However, existing approaches often suffer from limited performance due to weak modality alignment and limited self-geometry enhancement. To overcome these challenges, we propose a unified geometry-aware framework that integrates efficient modality alignment and adaptive geometry enhancement, mainly to address cross-modal geometric inconsistency of view-guided point cloud completion. Specifically, we propose a geometry-aware modality alignment by integrating a shared self-attention Transformer and cross-modality reconstruction supervision, which aims to bring features of the image and point cloud close to each other in a shared latent space describing the 3D object. To enhance the perception of global shape and local geometric details, we propose an adaptive geometry-aware self-attention module, which simultaneously considers local geometry-aware attention computation and the spatially-variant feature fusion. In addition, we apply a geometry-perceptive anchor refinement module to reorganize the anchor points (representing a local region of the shape) under appropriate supervision, further boosting the completion performance of our method. Extensive experiments on both synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate that our method achieves superior performance over existing approaches. Our code will be available at https://github.com/weizequan/MAGE.

Depth-Semantic Alignment and Affinity-Guided Fusion for Structured Radar Point Cloud Generation

Point clouds are an important carrier of three-dimensional spatial information, and their quality directly affects the performance of downstream perception tasks such as object detection and tracking. However, millimeter-wave radar point clouds are typically sparse, noisy, and structurally incomplete. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a multimodal point cloud generation method based on vision-radar fusion. The proposed method leverages image semantic information to impose structural constraints and achieve spatial alignment for radar point clouds, while incorporating a sparse completion strategy to enhance point density and recover missing structures. The generated point clouds are further evaluated in object detection and tracking tasks. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively improves point cloud quality and enhances the detection accuracy and robustness of perception models in complex environments, providing a practical solution for multisensor point cloud generation and intelligent perception systems.

MedPCFM: Improving Medical Point Cloud Completion by Integrating Point Transformers and Flow Matching

Medical point cloud completion is important for anatomical reconstruction and downstream clinical workflows, yet generative modeling in this setting remains insufficiently studied. We investigate completion through continuous-time generative modeling and introduce PCFM, a PTv3-backed flow matching approach for medical point cloud completion. We evaluate on SkullFix and SkullBreak, and additionally on the more recent Mandibular Defect dataset. We build strong baselines by adapting PTv3 to a deterministic encoder-decoder completion model and by instantiating diffusion completion (PCDiff) with both PVCNN and PTv3 denoisers. PCFM with PTv3 is competitive with the deterministic PTv3 baseline and achieves state-of-the-art generative performance across datasets, while requiring substantially fewer sampling steps than diffusion. At the best operating points, PTv3 also yields clear throughput gains, providing up to a 7×\times speed-up for PCFM compared to a PVCNN backbone. Finally, we study empirical scaling trends by varying model size and point cardinality, showing consistent gains with higher point resolution and informative trade-offs across model scales.

CAOA -- Completion-Assisted Object-CAD Alignment

Accurately aligning CAD models to their corresponding objects in indoor RGB-D scans is a central challenge in 3D semantic reconstruction. The task requires estimating a 9-Degree-of-Freedom (DoF) pose-position, rotation, and scale along three axes-but is hindered by noisy and incomplete scans, as well as segmentation errors that cause geometric distortions. We present Completion-Assisted Object-CAD Alignment (CAOA), a method that integrates a semantically and contextually aware point cloud completion module with a symmetry-aware relative pose estimation algorithm, enabling precise alignment of CAD models to scanned objects. Existing completion methods are typically trained and evaluated on synthetic datasets, which often fail to generalize to real-world scans. To bridge this gap, we introduce a synthetic data generation strategy tailored to indoor scenes, significantly reducing the synthetic-to-real domain gap-validated through quantitative comparisons with widely used completion datasets. In addition, we release S2C-Completion, an expert-annotated dataset of over 8,500 object-CAD pairs from Scan2CAD, created for real-world indoor single-object completion and intended as a new benchmark for this task. For object-CAD alignment, we incorporate symmetry information via a symmetry-aware loss, improving robustness to symmetric ambiguities. On the Scan2CAD benchmark, CAOA achieves a 17% accuracy improvement over state-of-the-art methods.

PointDiffusion: Diffusion-Based Scene Completion in the Point Cloud Domain

Reconstructing dense 3D scenes from sparse LiDAR point clouds is a fundamental challenge in autonomous driving, where latent diffusion models offer a promising solution. However, existing approaches rely on object-level autoencoders that collapse into unstable global representations at outdoor scale and suffer from ground truth data corrupted by odometry drift that systematically degrades supervision quality. Furthermore, multi-step diffusion inference incurs prohibitive latency for real-time deployment. We propose a novel multi-token Gaussian VAE with cross-attention pooling for stable scene-scale LiDAR compression, combined with an anchor-based ICP ground truth refinement pipeline that eliminates drift-induced noise from training supervision. Together, these components enable a scaffold-free single-step diffusion completion model that achieves an approximately 16x reduction in squared Chamfer distance on SemanticKITTI seq. 08 (0.396 m^2 to 0.024 m^2), surpasses LiDiff and ScoreLiDAR by 17-19% and 10-11%, respectively, and operates at 25-143x lower inference latency. Our results demonstrate that data quality dominates model design in this regime and that multi-token latent spaces provide a stable first stage for latent diffusion-based scene completion.

DynaTok: Token-Based 4D Reconstruction from Partial Point Clouds

We address 4D reconstruction from partial point cloud sequences, where depth-sensor observations are incomplete, unordered, and lack explicit temporal correspondences. This geometry-only setting is challenging due to missing observations and ambiguous dynamics. While recent progress has largely relied on image-based methods, existing point-based approaches typically focus on single objects, assume relatively complete inputs, or require explicit correspondences. To address these limitations, we propose DynaTok, a point-based framework for correspondence-free 4D reconstruction from partial point cloud sequences without images. DynaTok encodes frames into compact latent tokens, aggregates incomplete observations over time with a Transformer-based spatiotemporal encoder, and decouples geometry and motion through residual tokens in a unified model. A flow-matching decoder then reconstructs complete, temporally consistent 4D point-cloud sequences conditioned on the latent tokens. Experiments on object- and scene-level benchmarks demonstrate improved reconstruction quality and temporal coherence from partial point cloud observations. Shape-Prior-Based Point Cloud Completion for Single-Stage Fully Sparse 3D Object Detection

Single-stage fully sparse 3D object detectors rely on point clouds data to detect objects in autonomous driving scenarios. However, the sparsity and incompleteness of point clouds significantly limit the performance of 3D object detection. To address this issue, this paper proposes a point clouds completion method specifically designed for single-stage fully sparse detectors. The entire shape-prior-based completion process consists of two consecutive steps. In the first step, we design a novel Instance Selection module, which is capable of identifying point clouds corresponding to foreground objects even when the baseline model does not generate proposals, while effectively ignoring the point clouds of background regions. In the second step, we introduce a novel Alignment-Based Point Completion module, which aligns the point clouds of foreground objects with prototypes in terms of both their centers and orientations. Subsequently, points are selected from the prototype to fill in the missing parts of the foreground object. We evaluated our method on two single-stage fully sparse detectors using the KITTI dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly improves the detection performance, confirming its effectiveness and generalizability.

I2PRef: Image-Driven Point Completion with Iterative Refinement

We present an image-conditioned point cloud completion approach that treats images as the primary geometric source rather than a secondary guide. To this end, we introduce an Image-to-Point (I2P) module that can reconstruct complete point clouds directly from a single RGB image, with no need for 3D inputs. Additionally, we introduce a transformer-based Point-to-Point (P2P) refinement module that uses self- and cross-attention between point tokens and image features to iteratively refine the coarse I2P output. The I2P module enables the image encoder to learn rich geometric representations, while the P2P module progressively recovers fine-grained details. Unlike existing multimodal methods that rely on auxiliary losses or fusion modules, our explicit I2P task provides a strong, geometry-aware prior based on images alone. Extensive experiments on ShapeNet-ViPC demonstrate state-of-the-art completion performance with a 12.3% relative Chamfer Distance improvement over prior methods. ComPose: A Unified Completion-Pose Framework for Robust Category-Level Object Pose Estimation

Category-level object pose estimation aims to predict the pose and size of arbitrary objects in specific categories. Existing methods struggle with the inherent incompleteness of observed point clouds, which limits their ability to capture complete object shapes for robust pose reasoning. While point cloud completion offers a promising solution, naively treating it as a separate preprocessing step for partial observations introduces compounding errors and additional computational overhead, ultimately hindering both accuracy and efficiency. To address these challenges, we propose ComPose, a novel unified framework that tightly integrates shape completion to provide complete geometric cues for enhanced pose estimation. At the core of ComPose is a keypoint-based progressive completion module, which recovers full shape representations by progressively predicting a sparse set of keypoints and their surrounding dense point sets, empowering the keypoints to capture holistic object geometries. A geometric relation encoding module further enriches keypoint features with both local and global geometric context. In addition, we introduce a novel geometric relation consistency loss to enforce structural alignment between observed keypoints and their predicted NOCS coordinates, ensuring globally coherent coordinate transformations. Extensive experiments on standard benchmarks demonstrate that our method outperforms state-of-the-art approaches without relying on category-level shape priors.

PQDT: Pseudo-Query Dual Transformer for Robust Point Cloud Restoration

Point clouds are a fundamental 3D representation in computer vision, enabling a wide range of perception tasks. However, real-world point clouds often suffer from degradations such as incompleteness, noise, outliers, and irregular density, caused by sensor limitations or occlusions. Recovering clean and detailed shapes from such degraded data is crucial for downstream applications. While existing learning-based methods achieve progress on individual tasks like completion or denoising, they typically rely on global bottleneck features, which lose fine-grained geometry and remain sensitive to varying input quality. We propose a unified 3D restoration network that directly takes point clouds as input and adaptively reconstructs high-quality geometry under diverse degradation scenarios. At the core of our approach is a Pseudo-Query module, implemented within a Transformer backbone, which reformulates geometric translation into two cooperative stages to enhance structural clarity, robustness, and local detail preservation. Extensive experiments on curated benchmarks demonstrate that our approach surpasses state-of-the-art performance in general 3D restoration. It effectively handles complex combinations of completion, deformation, and denoising degradations. With this work, we provide a novel unified, point-only backbone for robust 3D restoration, enabling more versatile 3D perception.

Generating Roadside LiDAR Datasets from Vehicle-Side Datasets via Novel View Synthesis

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) require reliable environmental perception to support safe and efficient transportation. With the rapid development of Vehicle-to-everything (V2X), roadside perception has become an effective means to extend sensing coverage and improve traffic safety. However, the scarcity of large-scale annotated roadside LiDAR datasets poses a major challenge for training high-performance roadside perception models. In this paper, we introduce Vehicle-to-Roadside LiDAR Synthesis (VRS), a data synthesis framework that generates labeled roadside LiDAR datasets from vehicle-side datasets via LiDAR novel view synthesis. To mitigate the vehicle-to-roadside domain gap, VRS employs vehicle point cloud completion to compensate for missing geometry in vehicle-side observations, and introduces an occupancy-based visibility constraint to handle large viewpoint changes during cross-view rendering. The proposed framework enables flexible multi-view rendering for scalable roadside data generation. Extensive experiments on roadside 3D object detection demonstrate that the synthesized data effectively complements real roadside data, mitigates the limitations of limited real-world roadside data, and improves generalization to unseen roadside viewpoints.

SplAttN: Bridging 2D and 3D with Gaussian Soft Splatting and Attention for Point Cloud Completion

Although multi-modal learning has advanced point cloud completion, the theoretical mechanisms remain unclear. Recent works attribute success to the connection between modalities, yet we identify that standard hard projection severs this connection: projecting a sparse point cloud onto the image plane yields an extremely sparse support, which hinders visual prior propagation, a failure mode we term Cross-Modal Entropy Collapse. To address this practical limitation, we propose SplAttN, which replaces hard projection with Differentiable Gaussian Splatting to produce a dense, continuous image-plane representation. By reformulating projection as continuous density estimation, SplAttN avoids collapsed sparse support, facilitates gradient flow, and improves cross-modal connection learnability. Extensive experiments show that SplAttN achieves state-of-the-art performance on PCN and ShapeNet-55/34. Crucially, we utilize the real-world KITTI benchmark as a stress test for multi-modal reliance. Counter-factual evaluation reveals that while baselines degenerate into unimodal template retrievers insensitive to visual removal, SplAttN maintains a robust dependency on visual cues, validating that our method establishes an effective cross-modal connection. Code is available at https://github.com/zay002/SplAttN.

HyperDet: 3D Object Detection with Hyper 4D Radar Point Clouds

How far can 3D object detection go using 4D radar alone? Despite offering weather-robust and velocity- aware sensing for autonomous perception, modern 4D radar still yields sparse, noisy, and unstable point clouds, limiting radar-only 3D detection. We present HyperDet, a detector- agnostic input enhancement pipeline that constructs task- aware hyper 4D radar point clouds by combining measured observations with completed foreground geometry. HyperDet first refines short-window surround-view radar observations through spatio-temporal accumulation and cross-sensor val- idation, while Doppler-guided motion compensation reduces dynamic object trails when motion can be estimated reliably. It then performs foreground generative enhancement using LiDAR-guided pseudo-radar supervision available only during training, enriching object geometry while preserving measured radar background and radar-native attributes. During detec- tor training, radar-aware object-level augmentation maintains Doppler consistency under geometric relocation. At inference, HyperDet requires radar input alone and can be directly paired with standard 3D detectors. Experiments on two public surround-view 4D radar datasets demonstrate consistent im- provements over matched temporal accumulation across stan- dard 3D detectors, validating input-level radar enhancement as an effective approach to radar-only 3D detection.
