3DGS: 3D Gaussian Splatting · SLAM: Simultaneous Localization and Mapping

Overview

The field studies how a camera can track its motion while incrementally building a detailed, view-renderable 3D map from images and other sensors. Systems optimize Gaussian maps and camera poses using photometric and geometric cues, with approaches spanning monocular, RGB-D, visual-inertial, and LiDAR setups; some add learned depth or pose priors, loop closure, semantic features, or uncertainty estimates. Work also extends Gaussian maps to dynamic and deformable scenes, and commonly evaluates tracking and rendering on benchmarks such as TUM RGB-D, Replica, ScanNet, and KITTI. A central tension is balancing map quality and robust global tracking against optimization time, memory use, and reliability in challenging conditions such as motion, blur, and large outdoor scenes.

Real-Time LiDAR Gaussian Splatting SLAM

We present a real-time LiDAR-based framework for Gaussian Splatting SLAM that tightly couples fast G-ICP registration with spherical rasterization-based dense mapping for large-scale sequences. Leveraging LiDAR geometry rather than appearance, we reuse tracking-estimated local covariances to initialize Gaussians with range-aware scales and to derive surface normals for geometry-aware map optimization. We further introduce a covariance-derived geometry score that measures local complexity and drives pruning in planar regions and selective densification in structurally rich areas, while optimized Gaussians and LiDAR-specific confidence cues are fed back to improve tracking robustness. On the Newer College dataset, our method achieves an F-score of 86.78% using purely online trajectories at real-time speed (>>20 FPS), and additional experiments on other datasets confirm its stability and scalability.

Robust and Efficient Monocular 3D Gaussian SLAM for Kilometer-Scale Outdoor Scenes

Scaling monocular 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) SLAM to kilometer-level outdoor environments poses two tightly coupled challenges: fragile long-term pose tracking and excessive memory overhead during large-scale mapping. In this paper, we propose KiloGS-SLAM, a highly efficient and robust monocular 3DGS-SLAM system that jointly addresses both bottlenecks. Since high-fidelity scene reconstruction fundamentally relies on drift-free camera poses, we first introduce a motion-adaptive hybrid tracking module. This module features a condition-triggered three-tier solving pipeline. It dynamically switches between Essential matrix and PnP models to handle geometric degeneracies. An on-demand foundation model can also be activated to rescue the trajectory from catastrophic drift. To ensure the system can sustain these long trajectories without memory exhaustion, we subsequently design a lifecycle-managed Gaussian mapping strategy. By integrating probabilistic initialization with chunk-based multi-view densification and pruning, this full-pipeline optimization effectively reduces primitive redundancy while preserving high-frequency details. Together, the robust tracking guarantees the geometric foundation required for accurate mapping, while the memory-efficient lifecycle-managed mapping enables large-scale operation. Extensive experiments across three challenging outdoor datasets demonstrate that our approach achieves state-of-the-art tracking accuracy and rendering quality, successfully scaling to sequences of over 10,000 frames on a single GPU.

MyGO-Splat: Multi-Objective Closed-Loop Geometric Feedback for RGB-Only Gaussian SLAM

Real-time monocular Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) fundamentally suffers from scale ambiguity and a lack of geometric self-correction. While 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) enables high-fidelity rendering, existing RGB-only systems remain open-loop because depth priors are injected into mapping but refined geometry cannot effectively regulate tracking drift. We present MyGO-Splat, a closed-loop Gaussian SLAM framework that analytically rasterizes Gaussian primitives into pixel-wise depth and surface normals, allowing the map to actively supervise camera pose optimization. To bridge monocular priors and scale consistency, our framework introduces scale-aware adaptive alignment that projects foundation-model depth estimates into the globally optimized Gaussian space, forming a self-correcting cycle for scale feedback. Extensive evaluations show that this closed-loop design improves scale stability and appearance-geometry consistency, achieving performance comparable to RGB-D methods while using only monocular input.

VCS-SLAM: Geometry-Validated Semantic Evidence Fusion for 3D Gaussian SLAM

Visual SLAM performance often deteriorates in complex real-world applications. Semantic 3D Gaussian SLAM commonly fuses 2D semantic priors into a persistent 3D map using uniform optimization weights. However, such priors are not equally reliable in online mapping: occlusions, unsupported semantic boundaries, and ambiguous ray geometry can introduce persistent semantic artifacts into the global Gaussian map. We propose VCS-SLAM, a geometry-validated semantic evidence fusion framework for RGB-D 3D Gaussian SLAM. Instead of treating all semantic observations as uniformly valid supervision, VCS-SLAM evaluates their geometric reliability through visibility consistency, surface-supported boundary evidence, and ray-level conflict uncertainty. The resulting reliability-aware objective suppresses occluded semantic updates, reduces unsupported semantic bleeding, and delays premature label assignment in ambiguous regions. Experiments on Replica demonstrate improved semantic consistency, boundary preservation, and reconstruction quality. Results on ScanNet further show that VCS-SLAM maintains competitive tracking performance under real RGB-D inputs

Pocket-SLAM: Rendering-Area-Aware Pruning for Memory-Efficient 3DGS-SLAM

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has garnered significant attention in Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) due to its advances in capturing fine-grained geometry features and synthesizing novel views. For SLAM in large-scale scenes, such as autonomous driving, 3DGS-SLAM faces a critical limitation: memory consumption increases continuously over time as Gaussian points accumulate, leading to poor memory efficiency and limiting its applicability. In this work, we propose a rendering-area-aware pruning strategy that selectively removes Gaussians based on their contribution to the effective rendering area, rather than solely relying on Gaussian-level heuristics such as opacity or gradient magnitude. This perspective directly targets the sources of memory redundancy, effectively reducing the peak memory footprint of 3DGS-SLAM during runtime. Evaluations on the EuRoC and KITTI datasets demonstrate that our method consistently outperforms existing pruning approaches in large-scale outdoor scenes, achieving over 60% memory reduction and more than 2 times FPS improvement while preserving localization and mapping accuracy. These results highlight rendering-area-aware pruning as a promising direction for scaling 3DGS-SLAM to real-world autonomous driving scenarios. Spectral GS-SLAM: Observability-Aware, Degeneracy-Robust Tracking for Real-Time 3D Gaussian Splatting SLAM

Recent 3DGS-SLAM systems enable real-time operation by leveraging conventional feature matching or ICP-based tracking, thereby avoiding the heavy dense photometric optimization used in earlier approaches. However, feature matching remains prone to failure in textureless environments, while ICP-based tracking struggles in structureless or geometrically degenerate scenes due to ill-conditioned optimization. To address this issue, we propose Spectral GS-SLAM, an efficient yet robust tracking framework that integrates ICP with complementary feature-based constraints. Our method mitigates numerical instability by adaptively compensating under-constrained directions in degenerate scenarios, without interfering with the shared Gaussian representation used for mapping. We further introduce a Gaussian-aware planarity weighting mechanism that exploits the intrinsic covariance structure of 3D Gaussians to characterize scene geometry and guide information fusion. Extensive evaluations on challenging TUM RGB-D sequences demonstrate that Spectral GS-SLAM achieves real-time performance (40.14 FPS) while maintaining consistent tracking in both structureless and featureless environments. The proposed method preserves trajectory integrity in degenerate scenes while maintaining competitive performance in non-adverse conditions.

MMD-SLAM: Structure-Enhanced Multi-Meta Gaussian Distribution-Guided Visual SLAM

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has significantly boosted novel view synthesis and high-fidelity scene reconstruction, expanding the potential of 3DGS-based Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) methods. However, most existing systems fail to fully exploit the underlying structural information, which limits rendering quality and often leads to inconsistent maps. To address these limitations, we propose MMD-SLAM, a structure-enhanced Visual SLAM framework that leverages the Atlanta World (AW) assumption to guide a Multi-Meta Gaussian representation for photorealistic mapping. First, we introduce a point-line fusion strategy for pose optimization, where 3D line segments are incorporated to improve tracking robustness and provide additional constraints for mapping. Second, we design a Multi-Meta Gaussian representation with dominant directions, explicitly encoding structural priors from the AW hypothesis. Finally, we propose a Gaussian evolution strategy that adapts to scene geometry and incorporates structural cues into global optimization. Extensive experiments demonstrate that these innovations enable MMD-SLAM to achieve state-of-the-art performance in both tracking accuracy and mapping quality. e.g., our method achieves a 48.56% reduction in ATE RMSE on ScanNet and a 5.71% improvement in PSNR on Replica, compared with MonoGS.

MAGS-SLAM: Monocular Multi-Agent Gaussian Splatting SLAM for Geometrically and Photometrically Consistent Reconstruction

Collaborative photorealistic 3D reconstruction from multiple agents enables rapid large-scale scene capture for virtual production and cooperative multi-robot exploration. While recent 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) SLAM algorithms can generate high-fidelity real-time mapping, most of the existing multi-agent Gaussian SLAM methods still rely on RGB-D sensors to obtain metric depth and simplify cross-agent alignment, limiting their deployment on low-cost or power-constrained robotic platforms, especially given the wider availability of RGB cameras. To address this challenge, we propose MAGS-SLAM, the first RGB-only multi-agent 3DGS SLAM framework for collaborative scene reconstruction. Each agent independently builds local monocular Gaussian submaps and transmits compact submap summaries rather than raw observations. To facilitate robust collaboration in the presence of monocular scale ambiguity, our framework integrates compact submap communication, geometry- and appearance-aware loop verification, and occupancy-aware Gaussian fusion, enabling coherent global reconstruction without active depth sensors. We further introduce ReplicaMultiagent Plus, a benchmark containing larger robot teams for evaluating collaborative Gaussian SLAM. Extensive experiments on both synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate that MAGS-SLAM, using RGB images alone, achieves tracking accuracy, rendering quality, and geometric quality that are competitive with or superior to those of state-of-the-art RGB-D collaborative Gaussian SLAM methods.

Flow4DGS-SLAM: Optical Flow-Guided 4D Gaussian Splatting SLAM

Handling the dynamic environments is a significant research challenge in Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM). Recent research combines 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) with SLAM to achieve both robust camera pose estimation and photorealistic renderings. However, using SLAM to efficiently reconstruct both static and dynamic regions remains challenging. In this work, we propose an efficient framework for dynamic 3DGS SLAM guided by optical flow. Using the input depth and prior optical flow, we first propose a category-agnostic motion mask generation strategy by fitting a camera ego-motion model to decompose the optical flow. This module separates dynamic and static Gaussians and simultaneously provides flow-guided camera pose initialization. We boost the training speed of dynamic 3DGS by explicitly modeling their temporal centers at keyframes. These centers are propagated using 3D scene flow priors and are dynamically initialized with an adaptive insertion strategy. Alongside this, we model the temporal opacity and rotation using a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) to adaptively learn the complex dynamics. The empirical results demonstrate our state-of-the-art performance in tracking, dynamic reconstruction, and training efficiency.

GaussianFlow SLAM: Monocular Gaussian Splatting SLAM Guided by GaussianFlow

Gaussian splatting has recently gained traction as a compelling map representation for SLAM systems, enabling dense and photo-realistic scene modeling. However, its application to monocular SLAM remains challenging due to the lack of reliable geometric cues from monocular input. Without geometric supervision, mapping or tracking could fall in local-minima, resulting in structural degeneracies and inaccuracies. To address this challenge, we propose GaussianFlow SLAM, a monocular 3DGS-SLAM that leverages optical flow as a geometry-aware cue to guide the optimization of both the scene structure and camera poses. By encouraging the projected motion of Gaussians, termed GaussianFlow, to align with the optical flow, our method introduces consistent structural cues to regularize both map reconstruction and pose estimation. Furthermore, we introduce normalized error-based densification and pruning modules to refine inactive and unstable Gaussians, thereby contributing to improved map quality and pose accuracy. Experiments conducted on public datasets demonstrate that our method achieves superior rendering quality and tracking accuracy compared with state-of-the-art algorithms. RMGS-SLAM: Real-time Multi-sensor Gaussian Splatting SLAM

Achieving real-time Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) based on 3D Gaussian splatting (3DGS) in large-scale real-world environments remains challenging, as existing methods still struggle to jointly achieve low-latency pose estimation, continuous 3D Gaussian reconstruction, and long-term global consistency. In this paper, we present a tightly coupled LiDAR-Inertial-Visual 3DGS-based SLAM framework for real-time pose estimation and photorealistic mapping in large-scale real-world scenes. The system executes state estimation and 3D Gaussian primitive initialization in parallel with global Gaussian optimization, enabling continuous dense mapping. To improve Gaussian initialization quality and accelerate optimization convergence, we introduce a cascaded strategy that combines feed-forward predictions with geometric priors derived from voxel-based principal component analysis. To enhance global consistency, we perform loop closure directly on the optimized global Gaussian map by estimating loop constraints through Gaussian-based Generalized Iterative Closest Point registration, followed by pose-graph optimization. We also collect challenging large-scale looped outdoor sequences with hardware-synchronized LiDAR-camera-IMU and ground-truth trajectories for realistic evaluation. Extensive experiments on both public datasets and our dataset demonstrate that the proposed method achieves a state of the art among real-time efficiency, localization accuracy, and rendering quality across diverse real-world scenes.

GGD-SLAM: Monocular 3DGS SLAM Powered by Generalizable Motion Model for Dynamic Environments

Visual SLAM algorithms achieve significant improvements through the exploration of 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) representations, particularly in generating high-fidelity dense maps. However, they depend on a static environment assumption and experience significant performance degradation in dynamic environments. This paper presents GGD-SLAM, a framework that employs a generalizable motion model to address the challenges of localization and dense mapping in dynamic environments - without predefined semantic annotations or depth input. Specifically, the proposed system employs a First-In-First-Out (FIFO) queue to manage incoming frames, facilitating dynamic semantic feature extraction through a sequential attention mechanism. This is integrated with a dynamic feature enhancer to separate static and dynamic components. Additionally, to minimize dynamic distractors' impact on the static components, we devise a method to fill occluded areas via static information sampling and design a distractor-adaptive Structure Similarity Index Measure (SSIM) loss tailored for dynamic environments, significantly enhancing the system's resilience. Experiments conducted on real-world dynamic datasets demonstrate that the proposed system achieves state-of-the-art performance in camera pose estimation and dense reconstruction in dynamic scenes.

ReefMapGS: Enabling Large-Scale Underwater Reconstruction by Closing the Loop Between Multimodal SLAM and Gaussian Splatting

3D Gaussian Splatting is a powerful visual representation, providing high-quality and efficient 3D scene reconstruction, but it is crucially dependent on accurate camera poses typically obtained from computationally intensive processes like structure-from-motion that are unsuitable for field robot applications. However, in these domains, multimodal sensor data from acoustic, inertial, pressure, and visual sensors are available and suitable for pose-graph optimization-based SLAM methods that can estimate the vehicle's trajectory and thus our needed camera poses while providing uncertainty. We propose a 3DGS-based incremental reconstruction framework, ReefMapGS, that builds an initial model from a high certainty region and progressively expands to incorporate the whole scene. We reconstruct the scene incrementally by interleaving local tracking of new image observations with optimization of the underlying 3DGS scene. These refined poses are integrated back into the pose-graph to globally optimize the whole trajectory. We show COLMAP-free 3D reconstruction of two underwater reef sites with complex geometry as well as more accurate global pose estimation of our AUV over survey trajectories spanning up to 700 m.

MonoEM-GS: Monocular Expectation-Maximization Gaussian Splatting SLAM

Feed-forward geometric foundation models can infer dense point clouds and camera motion directly from RGB streams, providing priors for monocular SLAM. However, their predictions are often view-dependent and noisy: geometry can vary across viewpoints and under image transformations, and local metric properties may drift between frames. We present MonoEM-GS, a monocular mapping pipeline that integrates such geometric predictions into a global Gaussian Splatting representation while explicitly addressing these inconsistencies. MonoEM-GS couples Gaussian Splatting with an Expectation--Maximization formulation to stabilize geometry, and employs ICP-based alignment for monocular pose estimation. Beyond geometry, MonoEM-GS parameterizes Gaussians with multi-modal features, enabling in-place open-set segmentation and other downstream queries directly on the reconstructed map. We evaluate MonoEM-GS on 7-Scenes, TUM RGB-D and Replica, and compare against recent baselines.

Underwater monocular SLAM is a challenging problem with applications from autonomous underwater vehicles to marine archaeology. However, existing underwater SLAM methods struggle to produce maps with high-fidelity rendering. In this paper, we propose WaterSplat-SLAM, a novel monocular underwater SLAM system that achieves robust pose estimation and photorealistic dense mapping. Specifically, we couple semantic medium filtering into two-view 3D reconstruction prior to enable underwater-adapted camera tracking and depth estimation. Furthermore, we present a semantic-guided rendering and adaptive map management strategy with an online medium-aware Gaussian map, modeling underwater environment in a photorealistic and compact manner. Experiments on multiple underwater datasets demonstrate that WaterSplat-SLAM achieves robust camera tracking and high-fidelity rendering in underwater environments.

Flash-Mono: Feed-Forward Accelerated Gaussian Splatting Monocular SLAM

Monocular 3D Gaussian Splatting SLAM suffers from critical limitations in time efficiency, geometric accuracy, and multi-view consistency. These issues stem from the time-consuming Train-from-Scratch\textit{Train-from-Scratch} optimization and the lack of inter-frame scale consistency from single-frame geometry priors. We contend that a feed-forward paradigm, leveraging multi-frame context to predict Gaussian attributes directly, is crucial for addressing these challenges. We present Flash-Mono, a system composed of three core modules: a feed-forward prediction frontend, a 2D Gaussian Splatting mapping backend, and an efficient hidden-state-based loop closure module. We trained a recurrent feed-forward frontend model that progressively aggregates multi-frame visual features into a hidden state via cross attention and jointly predicts camera poses and per-pixel Gaussian properties. By directly predicting Gaussian attributes, our method bypasses the burdensome per-frame optimization required in optimization-based GS-SLAM, achieving a 10x\textbf{10x} speedup while ensuring high-quality rendering. The power of our recurrent architecture extends beyond efficient prediction. The hidden states act as compact submap descriptors, facilitating efficient loop closure and global Sim(3)\mathrm{Sim}(3) optimization to mitigate the long-standing challenge of drift. For enhanced geometric fidelity, we replace conventional 3D Gaussian ellipsoids with 2D Gaussian surfels. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Flash-Mono achieves state-of-the-art performance in both tracking and mapping quality, highlighting its potential for embodied perception and real-time reconstruction applications. VBGS-SLAM: Variational Bayesian Gaussian Splatting Simultaneous Localization and Mapping

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has shown promising results for 3D scene modeling using mixtures of Gaussians, yet its existing simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) variants typically rely on direct, deterministic pose optimization against the splat map, making them sensitive to initialization and susceptible to catastrophic forgetting as map evolves. We propose Variational Bayesian Gaussian Splatting SLAM (VBGS-SLAM), a novel framework that couples the splat map refinement and camera pose tracking in a generative probabilistic form. By leveraging conjugate properties of multivariate Gaussians and variational inference, our method admits efficient closed-form updates and explicitly maintains posterior uncertainty over both poses and scene parameters. This uncertainty-aware method mitigates drift and enhances robustness in challenging conditions, while preserving the efficiency and rendering quality of existing 3DGS. Our experiments demonstrate superior tracking performance and robustness in long sequence prediction, alongside efficient, high-quality novel view synthesis across diverse synthetic and real-world scenes.

Compact Keyframe-Optimized Multi-Agent Gaussian Splatting SLAM

Efficient multi-agent 3D mapping is essential for robotic teams operating in unknown environments, but dense representations hinder real-time exchange over constrained communication links. In multi-agent Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), systems typically rely on a centralized server to merge and optimize the local maps produced by individual agents. However, sharing these large map representations, particularly those generated by recent methods such as Gaussian Splatting, becomes a bottleneck in real-world scenarios with limited bandwidth. We present an improved multi-agent RGB-D Gaussian Splatting SLAM framework that reduces communication load while preserving map fidelity. First, we incorporate a compaction step into our SLAM system to remove redundant 3D Gaussians, without degrading the rendering quality. Second, our approach performs centralized loop closure computation without initial guess, operating in two modes: a pure rendered-depth mode that requires no data beyond the 3D Gaussians, and a camera-depth mode that includes lightweight depth images for improved registration accuracy and additional Gaussian pruning. Evaluation on both synthetic and real-world datasets shows up to 85-95% reduction in transmitted data compared to state-of-the-art approaches in both modes, bringing 3D Gaussian multi-agent SLAM closer to practical deployment in real-world scenarios. GS3LAM: Gaussian Semantic Splatting SLAM

Recently, the multi-modal fusion of RGB, depth, and semantics has shown great potential in dense Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM). However, a prerequisite for generating consistent semantic maps is the availability of dense, efficient, and scalable scene representations. Existing semantic SLAM systems based on explicit representations are often limited by resolution and an inability to predict unknown areas. Conversely, implicit representations typically rely on time-consuming ray tracing, failing to meet real-time requirements. Fortunately, 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has emerged as a promising representation that combines the efficiency of point-based methods with the continuity of geometric structures. To this end, we propose GS3LAM, a Gaussian Semantic Splatting SLAM framework that processes multimodal data to render consistent, dense semantic maps in real-time. GS3LAM models the scene as a Semantic Gaussian Field (SG-Field) and jointly optimizes camera poses and the field via multimodal error constraints. Furthermore, a Depth-adaptive Scale Regularization (DSR) scheme is introduced to resolve misalignments between scale-invariant Gaussians and geometric surfaces. To mitigate catastrophic forgetting, we propose a Random Sampling-based Keyframe Mapping (RSKM) strategy, which demonstrates superior performance over common local covisibility optimization methods. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets show that GS3LAM achieves increased tracking robustness, superior rendering quality, and enhanced semantic precision compared to state-of-the-art methods. Unblur-SLAM: Dense Neural SLAM for Blurry Inputs

We propose Unblur-SLAM, a novel RGB SLAM pipeline for sharp 3D reconstruction from blurred image inputs. In contrast to previous work, our approach is able to handle different types of blur and demonstrates state-of-the-art performance in the presence of both motion blur and defocus blur. Moreover, we adjust the computation effort with the amount of blur in the input image. As a first stage, our method uses a feed-forward image deblurring model for which we propose a suitable training scheme that can improve both tracking and mapping modules. Frames that are successfully deblurred by the feed-forward network obtain refined poses and depth through local-global multi-view optimization and loop closure. Frames that fail the first stage deblurring are directly modeled through the global 3DGS representation and an additional blur network to model multiple blurred sub-frames and simulate the blur formation process in 3D space, thereby learning sharp details and refined sub-frame poses. Experiments on several real-world datasets demonstrate consistent improvements in both pose estimation and sharp reconstruction results of geometry and texture.

SGAD-SLAM: Splatting Gaussians at Adjusted Depth for Better Radiance Fields in RGBD SLAM

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has made remarkable progress in RGBD SLAM. Current methods usually use 3D Gaussians or view-tied 3D Gaussians to represent radiance fields in tracking and mapping. However, these Gaussians are either too flexible or too limited in movements, resulting in slow convergence or limited rendering quality. To resolve this issue, we adopt pixel-aligned Gaussians but allow each Gaussian to adjust its position along its ray to maximize the rendering quality, even if Gaussians are simplified to improve system scalability. To speed up the tracking, we model the depth distribution around each pixel as a Gaussian distribution, and then use these distributions to align each frame to the 3D scene quickly. We report our evaluations on widely used benchmarks, justify our designs, and show advantages over the latest methods in view rendering, camera tracking, runtime, and storage complexity. TRGS-SLAM: IMU-Aided Gaussian Splatting SLAM for Blurry, Rolling Shutter, and Noisy Thermal Images

Thermal cameras offer several advantages for simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) with mobile robots: they provide a passive, low-power solution to operating in darkness, are invariant to rapidly changing or high dynamic range illumination, and can see through fog, dust, and smoke. However, uncooled microbolometer thermal cameras, the only practical option in most robotics applications, suffer from significant motion blur, rolling shutter distortions, and fixed pattern noise. In this paper, we present TRGS-SLAM, a 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) based thermal inertial SLAM system uniquely capable of handling these degradations. To overcome the challenges of thermal data, we introduce a model-aware 3DGS rendering method and several general innovations to 3DGS SLAM, including B-spline trajectory optimization with a two-stage IMU loss, view-diversity-based opacity resetting, and pose drift correction schemes. Our system demonstrates accurate tracking on real-world, fast motion, and high-noise thermal data that causes all other tested SLAM methods to fail. Moreover, through offline refinement of our SLAM results, we demonstrate thermal image restoration competitive with prior work that required ground truth poses.

M^3: Dense Matching Meets Multi-View Foundation Models for Monocular Gaussian Splatting SLAM

Streaming reconstruction from uncalibrated monocular video remains challenging, as it requires both high-precision pose estimation and computationally efficient online refinement in dynamic environments. While coupling 3D foundation models with SLAM frameworks is a promising paradigm, a critical bottleneck persists: most multi-view foundation models estimate poses in a feed-forward manner, yielding pixel-level correspondences that lack the requisite precision for rigorous geometric optimization. To address this, we present M^3, which augments the Multi-view foundation model with a dedicated Matching head to facilitate fine-grained dense correspondences and integrates it into a robust Monocular Gaussian Splatting SLAM. M^3 further enhances tracking stability by incorporating dynamic area suppression and cross-inference intrinsic alignment. Extensive experiments on diverse indoor and outdoor benchmarks demonstrate state-of-the-art accuracy in both pose estimation and scene reconstruction. Notably, M^3 reduces ATE RMSE by 64.3% compared to VGGT-SLAM 2.0 and outperforms ARTDECO by 2.11 dB in PSNR on the ScanNet++ dataset.

VarSplat: Uncertainty-aware 3D Gaussian Splatting for Robust RGB-D SLAM

Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) with 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) enables fast, differentiable rendering and high-fidelity reconstruction across diverse real-world scenes. However, existing 3DGS-SLAM approaches handle measurement reliability implicitly, making pose estimation and global alignment susceptible to drift in low-texture regions, transparent surfaces, or areas with complex reflectance properties. To this end, we introduce VarSplat, an uncertainty-aware 3DGS-SLAM system that explicitly learns per-splat appearance variance. By using the law of total variance with alpha compositing, we then render differentiable per-pixel uncertainty map via efficient, single-pass rasterization. This map guides tracking, submap registration, and loop detection toward focusing on reliable regions and contributes to more stable optimization. Experimental results on Replica (synthetic) and TUM-RGBD, ScanNet, and ScanNet++ (real-world) show that VarSplat improves robustness and achieves competitive or superior tracking, mapping, and novel view synthesis rendering compared to existing studies for dense RGB-D SLAM.

X-GS: An Extensible Framework for Perceiving and Thinking with 3D Gaussian Splatting

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has emerged as a powerful technique for novel view synthesis, subsequently extending into numerous spatial AI applications. However, most existing 3DGS methods operate in isolation, focusing on specific domains. In this paper, we introduce X-GS, an extensible framework that integrates previously isolated 3DGS methods into the perception module of a VLM for spatial tasks, with two major components: the Perceiver\textit{Perceiver} and the Thinker\textit{Thinker}. The Perceiver\textit{Perceiver} performs online 3DGS-based SLAM with semantic distillation and outputs semantic Gaussians from unposed video streams. It leverages recent vision foundation models for stronger geometric priors, and we introduce three novel optimizations to improve semantic distillation efficiency. The Thinker\textit{Thinker} interfaces diverse VLMs with these semantic Gaussians, unlocking spatial multimodal capabilities such as 3D visual grounding and scene captioning. Experimental results on diverse benchmarks demonstrate the efficiency and newly unlocked multimodal capabilities of the X-GS framework.

MipSLAM: Alias-Free Gaussian Splatting SLAM

This paper introduces MipSLAM, a frequency-aware 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) SLAM framework capable of high-fidelity anti-aliased novel view synthesis and robust pose estimation under varying camera configurations. Existing 3DGS-based SLAM systems often suffer from aliasing artifacts and trajectory drift due to inadequate filtering and purely spatial optimization. To overcome these limitations, we propose an Elliptical Adaptive Anti-aliasing (EAA) algorithm that approximates Gaussian contributions via geometry-aware numerical integration, avoiding costly analytic computation. Furthermore, we present a Spectral-Aware Pose Graph Optimization (SA-PGO) module that reformulates trajectory estimation in the frequency domain, effectively suppressing high-frequency noise and drift through graph Laplacian analysis. Extensive evaluations on Replica and TUM datasets demonstrate that MipSLAM achieves state-of-the-art rendering quality and localization accuracy across multiple resolutions. DAGS-SLAM: Dynamic-Aware 3DGS SLAM via Spatiotemporal Motion Probability and Uncertainty-Aware Scheduling

Mobile robots and IoT devices demand real-time localization and dense reconstruction under tight compute and energy budgets. While 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) enables efficient dense SLAM, dynamic objects and occlusions still degrade tracking and mapping. Existing dynamic 3DGS-SLAM often relies on heavy optical flow and per-frame segmentation, which is costly for mobile deployment and brittle under challenging illumination. We present DAGS-SLAM, a dynamic-aware 3DGS-SLAM system that maintains a spatiotemporal motion probability (MP) state per Gaussian and triggers semantics on demand via an uncertainty-aware scheduler. DAGS-SLAM fuses lightweight YOLO instance priors with geometric cues to estimate and temporally update MP, propagates MP to the front-end for dynamic-aware correspondence selection, and suppresses dynamic artifacts in the back-end via MP-guided optimization. Experiments on public dynamic RGB-D benchmarks show improved reconstruction and robust tracking while sustaining real-time throughput on a commodity GPU, demonstrating a practical speed-accuracy tradeoff with reduced semantic invocations toward mobile deployment.

RU4D-SLAM: Reweighting Uncertainty in Gaussian Splatting SLAM for 4D Scene Reconstruction

Combining 3D Gaussian splatting with Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) has gained popularity as it enables continuous 3D environment reconstruction during motion. However, existing methods struggle in dynamic environments, particularly moving objects complicate 3D reconstruction and, in turn, hinder reliable tracking. The emergence of 4D reconstruction, especially 4D Gaussian splatting, offers a promising direction for addressing these challenges, yet its potential for 4D-aware SLAM remains largely underexplored. Along this direction, we propose a robust and efficient framework, namely Reweighting Uncertainty in Gaussian Splatting SLAM (RU4D-SLAM) for 4D scene reconstruction, that introduces temporal factors into spatial 3D representation while incorporating uncertainty-aware perception of scene changes, blurred image synthesis, and dynamic scene reconstruction. We enhance dynamic scene representation by integrating motion blur rendering, and improve uncertainty-aware tracking by extending per-pixel uncertainty modeling, which is originally designed for static scenarios, to handle blurred images. Furthermore, we propose a semantic-guided reweighting mechanism for per-pixel uncertainty estimation in dynamic scenes, and introduce a learnable opacity weight to support adaptive 4D mapping. Extensive experiments on standard benchmarks demonstrate that our method substantially outperforms state-of-the-art approaches in both trajectory accuracy and 4D scene reconstruction, particularly in dynamic environments with moving objects and low-quality inputs. NRGS-SLAM: Monocular Non-Rigid SLAM for Endoscopy via Deformation-Aware 3D Gaussian Splatting

Visual simultaneous localization and mapping (V-SLAM) is a fundamental capability for autonomous perception and navigation. However, endoscopic scenes violate the rigidity assumption due to persistent soft-tissue deformations, creating a strong coupling ambiguity between camera ego-motion and intrinsic deformation. Although recent monocular non-rigid SLAM methods have made notable progress, they often lack effective decoupling mechanisms and rely on sparse or low-fidelity scene representations, which leads to tracking drift and limited reconstruction quality. To address these limitations, we propose NRGS-SLAM, a monocular non-rigid SLAM system for endoscopy based on 3D Gaussian Splatting. To resolve the coupling ambiguity, we introduce a deformation-aware 3D Gaussian map that augments each Gaussian primitive with a learnable deformation probability, optimized via a Bayesian self-supervision strategy without requiring external non-rigidity labels. Building on this representation, we design a deformable tracking module that performs robust coarse-to-fine pose estimation by prioritizing low-deformation regions, followed by efficient per-frame deformation updates. A carefully designed deformable mapping module progressively expands and refines the map, balancing representational capacity and computational efficiency. In addition, a unified robust geometric loss incorporates external geometric priors to mitigate the inherent ill-posedness of monocular non-rigid SLAM. Extensive experiments on multiple public endoscopic datasets demonstrate that NRGS-SLAM achieves more accurate camera pose estimation (up to 50% reduction in RMSE) and higher-quality photo-realistic reconstructions than state-of-the-art methods. Comprehensive ablation studies further validate the effectiveness of our key design choices. Source code will be publicly available upon paper acceptance.

Rethinking Densification in Gaussian SLAM: A Stationary Sampling Perspective

Gaussian Splatting enables high-fidelity differentiable SLAM by representing scenes as anisotropic Gaussian primitives. Most systems rely on residual-driven densification, which couples refinement with representation growth: accuracy saturates at a moderate primitive count, yet memory grows throughout the trajectory, degrading throughput. We introduce TopoGS-SLAM, a stationary-sampling formulation that decouples refinement from capacity through coverage-triggered Gaussian initialization and bounded-topology optimization, turning mapping into a bounded-dimensional problem with stable scaling. On standard indoor benchmarks, TopoGS-SLAM matches or surpasses densification-based pipelines in localization and reconstruction accuracy while substantially improving memory scalability and throughput, showing that iterative topology mutation is not required for accurate Gaussian SLAM in bounded-area static indoor scenes with sufficient multi-view coverage.
