Autism Spectrum Disorder
Overview
Autism Spectrum Disorder research examines differences in communication, social interaction, sensory processing, movement, and brain function, as well as ways to support autistic people. Computational approaches include machine learning on brain scans, eye gaze, video, speech, gait, and wearable sensors; language and neuroscience studies also use interviews, behavioral tasks, and brain-signal measurements. AI systems are being explored for screening, behavioral assessment, early-risk prediction, and intervention support, with multimodal models, graph networks, and conversational agents among the main approaches. A key challenge is showing that results generalize across people, ages, clinics, and recording conditions while remaining calibrated, clinically useful, explainable, and respectful of autistic people’s varied experiences.
