RAFM-SER++: A Lightweight Multimodal Emotion Recognition Framework for Real-Time Behavioral Monitoring in Surveillance Systems

Recent multimodal Speech Emotion Recognition (SER) systems achieve high accuracy through interaction-heavy cross-modal transformers, but their computational cost limits deployment in latency-sensitive and resource-constrained surveillance systems. To address this challenge, we propose RAFM_SER++, a lightweight multimodal SER framework featuring an asymmetric Residual Attention Fusion Mechanism (RAFM). Rather than relying on computationally expensive bidirectional interactions, RAFM injects affective speech cues into semantic text representations through a one-directional residual attention pathway. Combined with a BYOL-inspired cross-modal alignment objective and attention-guided pooling, the proposed framework improves multimodal representation learning while maintaining low computational overhead. Experiments on the IEMOCAP and ESD benchmarks demonstrate that RAFM_SER++ consistently outperforms the HuBERT-Base baseline and achieves a superior accuracy-efficiency trade-off compared with the state-of-the-art MemoCMT. Specifically, RAFM_SER++ reduces trainable parameters by more than 60%, achieves faster inference (79.60 it/s), and attains BACC scores of 81.10% on IEMOCAP and 95.39% on ESD. These results indicate that lightweight asymmetric multimodal fusion is an effective alternative to interaction-heavy cross-modal transformers for real-time surveillance applications.

SketchSense: Learning to Interpret Imperfect Sketch Guidance for Image Inpainting

Sketch-guided image inpainting provides intuitive structural control, yet real sketches often mix reliable global intent with locally crowded, displaced, incomplete, or deliberately unconventional strokes. Existing approaches typically either retain the input sketch as a fixed condition throughout denoising or refine it into a clean structure before RGB synthesis. The former assumes uniformly reliable strokes and can propagate local errors throughout generation; the latter must resolve ambiguous structure before emerging appearance and semantic context become available. We propose SketchSense, a framework that interprets imperfect sketch guidance by synchronously denoising interacting RGB and structure streams. Bidirectional Attention Fusion couples appearance generation with structural recovery, producing a refined structure that exposes the model's evolving sketch interpretation. A phrase-level objective aligns the semantic grounding of the two streams. Sketch-Aware Spatial Regulation further adapts sketch use to local generation states by modulating attention and the fusion process, while an optional signed prior injects preserve-versus-correct intent into feature representations and attention behavior. Experiments on natural and structurally complex imagery show substantial gains over existing methods in both restoration quality and structural fidelity.

MergeOver: Post-Training Token Merging for Recursive Vision Transformers

Vision Transformers (ViTs) demonstrate exceptional performance in computer vision but suffer from large parameter counts and quadratic computational complexity, severely limiting their deployment on resource-constrained edge hardware. While recursive weight-sharing reduces parameter counts and token merging mitigates computational and memory bottlenecks, integrating these two paradigms without costly retraining is non-trivial, leaving this intersection largely unexplored. We propose MergeOver, a post-training approach that integrates Token Merging (ToMe) into the recursively weight-shared Sliced Recursive Transformer (SReT). Through an Unmerge tracking stack, constraint-safe merge-rate adjustment, and synchronised token-mass tracking across spatial permutations, MergeOver resolves the spatial and merging constraints of this integration. We further employ a stage-wise single-shot schedule that performs token reduction at the first block of each stage and maintains a fixed sequence length throughout its subsequent recursive iterations. Benchmarked on ImageNet-1K, our selected configuration reduces top-1 accuracy by 1.47 percentage points. On the GPU, it reduces peak activation memory by 37.3% and 38.4% at batch sizes 1 and 16, while throughput decreases by 21.7% at batch size 1 but increases by 21.7% at batch size 16. On a Raspberry Pi 5 (ARM CPU), it reduces latency by 2.4% and 17.6% at batch sizes 1 and 16. These results show that MergeOver can recover a meaningful part of the throughput and memory cost that recursive weight-sharing introduces, without retraining, and provides a baseline for combining token merging with hierarchical recursive transformers.

LoKiFormer: Locality-aware Attention with Decoupled Knowledge Memory for Efficient Large Language Model Pretraining

Large language models (LLMs) have achieved remarkable breakthroughs across various applications. However, their architectures remain inefficient in pretraining due to two main limitations: (i) self-attention lacks an explicit inductive bias for locality, leading to redundant modeling of sequence-internal local information; (ii) mixture-of-experts (MoE) implicitly couples knowledge storage with computational pathways, hindering flexible access to sequence-external global knowledge. To overcome these limitations, we propose LoKiFormer, a novel LLM architecture that augments the standard decoder with two dedicated modules: 1) Local Fusion Attention (LFA), which incorporates a convolutional fusion to attention, explicitly capturing local patterns and allowing the attention to operate on more informative representations; 2) Knowledge Memory Module (KMM), which introduces a parametric key-value memory that explicitly stores global knowledge in addressable slots, decoupling storage from computation and enabling direct knowledge retrieval. Together, these modules enable LoKiFormer to achieve more efficient and effective integration of information at both levels. Experimental results show that LoKiFormer converges 1.33x faster in pre-training than baseline models, underscoring its superiority over existing LLM architectures.

From Transparent Labware Segmentation to Collision Avoidance: A Real-Time Edge-Aware Perception Pipeline

This paper presents an edge-aware instance segmentation framework that enables real-time robotic collision avoidance with transparent laboratory glassware using purely visual perception. Transparent vessels defy conventional segmentation due to refraction, specular reflection, and the absence of stable interior texture, yet their boundary contours remain comparatively reliable visual cues. Exploiting this observation, we augment a one-stage real-time instance segmentation backbone with a lightweight edge-detection branch, edge-guided attention fusion, and a parameter-free SimAM module, and further construct LabGlass-IS, a 3485-image, 21-category instance segmentation dataset of real laboratory glassware. The enhanced model achieves the highest Boundary F-score of 97.80 among compared methods, outperforming the YOLO-prompted FastSAM framework by 18.93 BF points. Furthermore, it maintains an inference speed of 7.1ms per frame and requires only 2.85% of the parameters of the closest accuracy competitor. Multi-view triangulation of mask centroids further provides 3D positions for conservative bounding-volume collision constraints. Real-robot trials achieve a 93.3% collision avoidance success rate, indicating the feasibility of the proposed perception-to-action pipeline for robot collision avoidance among fragile transparent objects. iFAN: Inference-Aware Learning for Plain Mask Transformers

Query-based mask transformers assemble segmentation outputs through pixel-wise competition among query predictions of the final layer, yet this inference process is not explicitly optimized during training. We identify two key mismatches: the query with the highest probability-mask score does not necessarily produce the most accurate mask, and final-layer decoding may discard superior predictions from intermediate layers. To address these issues, we propose Inference-Aware Learning (iFAN), a general training framework for plain mask transformers. iFAN introduces Adjusted Probability-Mask Ranking (APMR), which aligns query competition with predicted mask quality and suppresses high-confidence but inaccurate competitors. We further employ Cross-Layer Self-Distillation (CLSD) to transfer stronger intermediate predictions to the final layer. The ranking and distillation objectives are training-only, while inference retains efficient final-layer decoding. Experiments on COCO, ADE20K, and Cityscapes demonstrate consistent improvements across panoptic, instance, and semantic segmentation, as well as across different architectures, backbone scales, and input resolutions. Overall, iFAN improves performance by an average of 1.20 PQ, 1.30 AP, and 0.63 mIoU, with negligible additional parameters, FLOPs and inference latency.

SAFViT: Spatial Attention Fusion Gating for Vision Transformer-Based Nucleus Segmentation and Classification

Accurate cell segmentation and classification are foundational to digital pathology, enabling quantitative tissue analysis for diagnosis and treatment planning. Encoder-decoder architectures that fuse multi-scale features through skip connections have become the dominant paradigm for this task, yet standard direct skip connections treat every spatial location equally, which leads to redundant and potentially conflicting information reaching the decoder. To overcome this problem, various gating mechanisms have been introduced, but most of them operate solely on filtering encoder information, neglecting the benefit of global contextual information from the decoder. This study proposes replacing conventional skip connections in a CellViT-based model with a novel Spatial Attention Fusion (SAF) Gating module. Each SAF gate concatenates the encoder skip and upsampled decoder features, compresses them through two pointwise convolutions with an intermediate ReLU, and applies a channel-wise softmax to produce a per-pixel "heatmap of trust" that sums to unity at every spatial location, allowing the network to learn where each source is most trustworthy. The resulting fused features improve the model's ability to detect the minority "Dead" class, which in turn enhances the multi-class panoptic quality (mPQ) on the PanNuke dataset. SAF Gating is compared against six gating alternatives including no gating, attention gates, squeeze-and-excitation, CBAM, cross-attention, and attentional feature fusion on PanNuke and MoNuSeg datasets. SAF Gating achieves the highest mPQ (0.471), a gain driven primarily by a 14.5-point improvement in Dead-class F1 score compared to ungated CellViT baseline.

Token-Region Guided Cross-Attention Fusion for Multimodal Affect Interpretation

Automated analysis of multimodal content on social networks has become a critical task for understanding public sentiment and information diffusion in the digital age. However, classifying internet memes remains computationally challenging due to the intricate interplay between visual cues and embedded, often stylized, text, particularly in low-resource languages like Bengali Language. This paper addresses the detection of political intent in Bengali memes by introducing Multimodal Cross-Attention Fusion framework. We first leverage a Vision-Language Model to extract high-fidelity OCR text from noisy meme images. Subsequently, we encode visual and textual features and synthesize them through a cross-modal multi-head attention mechanism that aligns semantic tokens with visual regions. We also investigate the integration of a domain-specific political lexicon as a knowledge prior. Experimental evaluation on the PoliMemeDecode1 dataset shows that our attention-based fusion significantly outperforms unimodal baselines and standard concatenation methods, achieving a state-of-the-art Macro-F1 of approximately 0.94. Interpretability analyzes further confirm that the model effectively learns to ground textual semantics in visual evidence.

Visible-Light Imaging Diagnosis of Neutral Particle Emission Tomography in the Tokamak Divertor: An Efficient Transformer-based Surrogate Model

Nuclear fusion has made significant progress in recent years and is expected to become one of the most important pathways to addressing global energy challenges. This paper focuses on observing plasma using visible-light cameras, analyzing its spatio-temporal motion cues, and predicting the two-dimensional spatial distribution of light intensity, aiming to provide a foundational basis for future scientific experiments using deep neural networks. Specifically, we propose Delta-InvFormer, a novel backbone network centered on a differential Transformer. The key insight is that by taking consecutive video frames as input, we can better capture the dynamics of the plasma. Moreover, spatial and temporal differential self-attention effectively mitigates interference from noisy signals, ensuring high-quality feature extraction. These features are then fused into a compact and informative representation, which is fed into a decoder network to predict the distribution. Based on real experimental data collected from the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) large-scale scientific facility, our results demonstrate that the proposed model not only significantly accelerates traditional methods for distribution prediction but also achieves competitive reconstruction accuracy. Variational Inference for Bird's Eye View Segmentation in Autonomous Driving

The bird's eye view (BEV) has emerged as a pivotal approach for environmental perception in autonomous driving, providing a unified spatial representation for vehicles. Nevertheless, despite BEV's significance in addressing the challenges inherent to autonomous driving, effectively fusing data from multiple camera sensors and operating in complex external driving environments remains a considerable challenge. To mitigate this issue, we recast the BEV segmentation problem within a variational inference framework. In this paper, we propose a novel transformer-based variational flow transformation network for BEV segmentation, denoted as TVB. Our architecture implicitly learns the mapping from multiple camera views to a unified canonical BEV map during training by exploiting posterior BEV supervision. TVB employs a conditional variational auto encoder (CVAE) as its backbone and produces multiple BEV map candidates. To augment the realism of the generated BEV maps, we integrate normalizing flows into the map generation process, enabling the construction of more complex and expressive probability distributions. Furthermore, we design a BEV-attention fusion (BAF) module that harnesses attention mechanisms to adaptively integrate the multiple candidate BEV maps. Experimental results, evaluated on both the nuScenes and OPV2Vdatasets, demonstrate that our proposed method achieves superior performance in multi-camera view BEV segmentation and lane environment perception.

Thresholded Cross-Attention for Reliable Intensity-Chromaticity Fusion in Low-Light Image Enhancement

Low-Light Image Enhancement (LLIE) requires a careful balance among noise suppression, color fidelity, and efficiency. Recent HVI-based methods alleviate color entanglement by decoupling intensity and chromaticity, yet how reliably the two streams are fused again is an overlooked factor that largely determines the final quality. We observe that the confidence of cross-stream attention is strongly layer-dependent, so the fixed-quota selection of Top-K sparse attention is mismatched to it, discarding informative dependencies in some layers while retaining noisy ones in others. Motivated by this observation, we propose TCA-Net, a network built around Thresholded Cross-Attention that targets reliable intensity-chromaticity fusion in the HVI space rather than introducing yet another color representation. At its core, TCA replaces the rigid Top-K quota with a fixed confidence threshold whose retained cardinality is input- and layer-adaptive, retaining only high-confidence cross-stream interactions while suppressing unreliable ones. Around this core, two complementary designs clean up the fusion before and after it: a Phase-guided Fourier Interaction Module provides a structure-aware brightness initialization for the intensity stream prior to fusion, and a Decoupled Dual-Stream Guidance Module constructs residual intensity features to suppress chromaticity leakage during reconstruction. A Scale-Aware Consistency Regularization further improves structural robustness under scale perturbations during training. Extensive experiments on LOL-v1, LOL-v2, Sony-Total-Dark, and LSRW-Huawei demonstrate that TCA-Net delivers competitive restoration accuracy, improved color fidelity, and a compact parameter size.

MMA-Former: Multi-Window Mixture-of-Head Attention Transformer for Adaptive PNI Prediction in 3D MRI

Perineural invasion (PNI) is a critical prognostic factor in cholangiocarcinoma. Non-invasive prediction from 3D MRI is challenging, demanding models that efficiently capture both fine-grained details and global context. We propose the Multi-window Mixture-of-Head Attention Transformer (MMA-Former), a novel end-to-end 3D architecture featuring a Coarse-Fine Transformer (CFT) structure for parallel multi-scale feature extraction. We advance this structure by integrating a novel Window-Specific Mixture-of-Head attention (WS-MoH) mechanism. Unlike standard Multi-Head Self Attention (MSA), WS-MoH generates a representation for each 3D window and dynamically routes the entire window to specialized or common attention heads. This enables spatially adaptive feature extraction tailored to the local context of each window, enhancing specialization and reducing redundancy without increasing parameters. Evaluated on a retrospective dataset of 168 T1-weighted MRI scans, MMA-Former achieved an AUC of 0.752, outperforming other 3D architectures, including the best CNN (AUC of 0.708) and Transformer baselines (AUC of 0.681).

XRFormer: Multiscale Tokenization for XRF Representation Learning

X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy is a key modality for material analysis in cultural heritage. However, automated learning from XRF spectra remains challenging: XRF spectra are complex one-dimensional signals composed of sharp elemental peaks, broader structures, and background variations that are not taken into account by existing learning-based models. This paper introduces XRFormer, a transformer architecture tailored to XRF spectra through a multiscale convolutional tokenizer that injects locality and multi-resolution inductive biases before global self-attention. The tokenizer progressively reduces spectral resolution while increasing embedding dimensionality, and the resulting token sequence is processed by a standard transformer encoder. We further investigate self-supervised pretraining for XRF representation learning using Masked Spectral modeling (MSM) and a physics-informed Peak Presence Prediction (PPP) objective. Experiments on the Pigments Checker STANDARD v.5 dataset for pigment identification and unmixing show that XRFormer consistently outperforms ViT, SpectralFormer (with and without CAF), and a 1D-CNN baseline for pigment identification. For pigment unmixing, XRFormer achieves robust abundance estimation while maintaining significantly higher parameter efficiency than SpectralFormer, operating at a lower token resolution (128 vs. 512 tokens) and with less than half the number of parameters (1.5M vs. 3.37M). MSM yields consistent gains across both tasks, while PPP further enhances performance for both identification and unmixing when tuned with an appropriate peak prominence. These results highlight multiscale, modality-aware tokenization as an effective and parameter efficient foundation for transformer-based XRF modeling under data-limited conditions. GlacierCastAI: Predicting Glacier Retreat from Multi-Modal Satellite Imagery and Climate Signals

ERA5 seasonal climate variables contain predictive information about future glacier retreat beyond what satellite imagery alone provides, yet existing deep learning methods focus on mapping current boundaries rather than forecasting future ones. This paper presents GlacierCastAI, which reframes glacier boundary prediction as a multi-modal spatiotemporal forecasting problem, fusing multi-temporal Landsat imagery with ERA5 reanalysis climate variables and Copernicus DEM terrain features to forecast glacier boundaries across five glaciers spanning four climate regimes. The architecture couples a ResNet50 spatial encoder with a ConvLSTM temporal model and a cross-attention climate fusion module. Because forecasting is inherently more uncertain than mapping current boundaries, the reported IoU values (0.320-0.337) are not directly comparable to state-of-the-art mapping models. Comparisons are against traditional baselines and experimental conditions. Through a pre-registered ablation study, adding ERA5 climate signals improves image-only IoU from 0.326 to 0.337 (+3.4%), suggesting that atmospheric forcing carries predictive information beyond imagery alone. All deep learning models substantially outperform persistence and linear trend baselines (IoU 0.160 and 0.169 respectively), with improvements of 89-99% relative IoU. A lightweight climate-only MLP baseline (661K parameters) achieves an IoU of 0.320 (98% of image-only performance) using 85x fewer parameters, suggesting that ERA5 variables encode substantial predictive signal independently of satellite imagery. SHAP attribution analysis suggests that spring solar radiation (MAM) is the dominant climate driver, consistent with the known role of spring insolation in setting melt season trajectories.

Fusion: A Framework for Unified Sequential Token AdaptatIon in VisiOn TraNsformers

Vision Transformers achieve strong image classification accuracy but process all image regions with nearly the same computation, even when many regions are redundant or uninformative. Recent adaptive inference methods reduce this cost by selectively compressing tokens or terminating inference early, but combining these mechanisms often causes unstable intermediate representations and accuracy degradation. We introduce Fusion, a unified adaptive inference framework that coordinates token merging, early exiting, and token pruning through a simple staged design: tokens are merged first, confidence is evaluated next, and pruning is applied only to samples that continue inference. This ordering allows the three mechanisms to operate cooperatively rather than competitively. Fusion further includes lightweight routing modules that adapt compression strength to each input and support inference-time adjustment of the accuracy--latency trade-off without retraining. On ImageNet-1k with DeiT-S, Fusion matches or surpasses state-of-the-art adaptive ViT methods at comparable compute budgets while reducing calibration error by up to 4×4\times and inference energy by 48%48\%. Experiments across ImageNet-100, CIFAR-100, and ImageNette with multiple ViT backbones demonstrate consistent transferability without dataset-specific tuning.

Mirror-Fusion Attention for Reflection-Aware Self-Supervised Representation Learning

Most self-supervised learning (SSL) methods encourage invariance across augmentations, but strict flip invariance can suppress informative left--right correspondences in approximately bilateral data such as medical images and human faces. We propose Mirror-Fusion-Augmented Self-Supervised Learning (MFASSL), a Vision Transformer framework that injects a soft reflection prior into standard SSL without redesigning the backbone. MFASSL constructs mirror-paired views aligned to an estimated symmetry axis and introduces a lightweight Mirror-Fusion Attention (MFA) module for adaptive token-level interaction between mirrored regions while preserving asymmetric cues. The base SSL objective is further coupled with reflection-consistency and mid-layer token-alignment losses. Across CheXpert, BraTS, CelebA-HQ, and WFLW, MFASSL improves downstream performance, calibration, and reflection robustness over MoCo-v3, DINO, and MAE baselines under matched ViT-B/16 settings. It also achieves stronger and more consistent gains than recent equivariant SSL approaches with only approximately 2.7% additional parameters. These results show that lightweight geometry-aware priors can effectively complement invariance-based SSL.

VSANet: View-aware Sparse Attention Network for Light Field Image Denoising

Light field (LF) image denoising is challenging due to the high-dimensional structure of LF data. While noise is independent across sub-aperture images, scene content exhibits strong cross-view correlations. We introduce VSANet, a view-aware sparse attention network for LF denoising. Specifically, we propose a view-aware sparse attention (VSA) block that represents the 4D LF feature map as a unified spatial-angular token space and performs cross-view aggregation via locality-sensitive hashing-based sparse attention. This enables global feature interactions with linear complexity, effectively exploiting LF correlations across views and spatial locations. In addition, we design a feature refinement (FR) block to emphasize informative features in spatial, angular, and epipolar subspaces. The VSA and FR blocks are integrated within a sequential attention refinement module, forming the core of VSANet. Experiments demonstrate VSANet outperforms stateof-the-art LF denoising methods.

PaAno+: Multiscale Encoding and Cross-Variable Attention for Time Series Anomaly Detection

Time-series anomaly detection has significant practical value for industrial and medical monitoring, as well as other critical domains. Current Transformer- and large-model-based detection approaches incur excessive computational overhead, while existing lightweight alternatives are constrained by insufficient feature extraction and inadequate modeling of dependencies across multivariate variables. To mitigate the above drawbacks, this study develops a lightweight, efficient anomaly detection model, dubbed PaAno, within the patch-oriented representation learning paradigm. In the encoder module, a multiscale feature-extraction backbone is constructed using convolutional kernels with differentiated receptive fields to capture hierarchical temporal characteristics; subsequent cross-scale adaptive attention aggregation, combined with residual connection optimization, further stabilizes feature representation learning. A cross-variable fusion attention module is embedded to explicitly characterize inter-variable correlations, empowering the model to identify anomalous patterns amid intricate operational conditions. Moreover, a novel pretext task based on temporal patch-window sorting is customized to uncover intrinsic structural properties of time series, and triplet loss is leveraged to optimize the patch embedding space for enhanced feature discrimination. Extensive experiments on the TSB-AD benchmark demonstrate that the proposed PaAno achieves state-of-the-art detection accuracy on both univariate and multivariate tasks, yielding significant performance gains across evaluation metrics, including VUS-PR, relative to the original PaAno. Leveraging a compact network design, the presented model achieves favorable computational efficiency, enabling deployment on resource-limited terminals for real-time anomaly inference.

Missing-Token Prompted Reliability-Aware Fusion for Robust Polyglot Speaker Identification

Accurate and robust multimodal speaker identification is essential for multimedia understanding and biometric authentication. However, real-world polyglot scenarios pose two key challenges: speaker-discriminative representations should generalize across languages, and the model should remain reliable when face information is unavailable. To address these challenges, we propose MRAF, a Missing-Token Prompted Reliability-Aware Fusion framework for polyglot speaker identification across complete-modality, missing-face, and cross-lingual scenarios. MRAF represents unavailable face inputs with a learnable missing token instead of fixed zero-valued features, providing a trainable representation of the missing visual state. This design reduces the distribution gap caused by missing inputs and allows subsequent reliability estimation and cross-modal fusion to operate within a unified token space. To adaptively integrate modalities with different reliability, MRAF further introduces a reliability-aware cross-attention fusion module, which estimates face and audio reliability scores, normalizes them into modality weights, and applies these weights to token representations before bidirectional cross-attention. In this way, the model can emphasize reliable modality cues while suppressing unreliable ones. During training, MRAF jointly optimizes multi-branch classification losses, audio-only knowledge distillation, and center loss to improve speaker discrimination and missing-modality robustness. Experiments on the official POLY-SIM 2026 test set demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework. In the final evaluation, MRAF achieves 100% accuracy on P3 and P5, and obtains competitive results on the more challenging missing-face settings P4 and P6. The source code will be released at https://github.com/MSA-LMC/MRAF.

Is an Image Also Worth 16x16=256 Superpixels? A Framework for Attentional Image Classification

Superpixel-based image classification has traditionally leveraged graph neural networks (GNNs) for processing irregular image representations. Recent advances in computer vision, driven by Vision Transformers (ViTs), have introduced new paradigms in self-attentional models, surpassing convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in various tasks. However, a synergistic connection between GNNs, superpixels, and transformers remains unexplored. In this work, we propose Superpixel Transformers (SPT), a novel framework that unifies superpixel-based image classification and ViTs. SPT generalizes the Superpixel Image Classification with Graph Attention Networks (SICGAT) model and ViT to support arbitrary superpixel-based chunking strategies, connectivity graphs, and positional encodings. We introduce refinements including a multidimensional sine-cosine positional encoding and an enriched patch data structure that fully incorporates superpixel shape and color information. By testing SPT across datasets such as CIFAR10, FashionMNIST, and Imagenette, with various superpixel generation and graph connectivity strategies, we demonstrate that SPT achieves superior performance compared to previous superpixel-based GNN methods and remains competitive with ViTs. Notably, our approach addresses the limitations of SICGAT, such as information loss during pixel aggregation, and shows how constrained graph connectivity can enhance ViT performance. SPT bridges the gap between superpixel-based and transformer models, opening avenues for cross-domain generalization and future innovations in hybrid attentional frameworks, and showing that an image can also be worth 16×1616\times16 superpixels.

ATV-Net: Adaptive Triple-View Network with Dynamic Feature Fusion

Recent advances in semantic segmentation rely heavily on attention-based and transformer-style architectures that, while accurate, introduce considerable architectural complexity and computational cost. This paper asks whether a compact CNN-based segmentation head can remain competitive by adaptively selecting useful receptive-field evidence. We propose ATV-Net, an Adaptive Triple-View Network that attaches a lightweight head to a conventional backbone. The head organizes three complementary views -- point-wise, neighborhood-level, and enlarged context -- and fuses them through an Adaptive Decision Gate that generates image-dependent weights from global feature statistics. This allows the model to emphasize different receptive-field responses according to scene content, without dense attention or multi-scale aggregation. Experiments on Cityscapes and Pascal VOC 2012 show that ATV-Net achieves 80.31% mIoU on Cityscapes with ResNet-101 and 80.90% with ConvNeXt-Tiny, and 86.7% and 88.5% mIoU on Pascal VOC 2012, respectively, while requiring fewer GFLOPs than representative context-aggregation and attention-based heads. The results indicate that adaptive receptive-field selection remains a practical and effective design choice for CNN-based semantic segmentation.

Deformba: Vision State Space Model with Adaptive State Fusion

State Space Models (SSMs) have emerged as a powerful and efficient alternative to Transformers, demonstrating linear-time complexity and exceptional sequence modeling capabilities. However, their application to vision tasks remains challenging. First, existing vision SSMs largely depend on manually designed fixed scanning methods to flatten image patches into sequences, which imposes predefined geometric structures and increases the complexity. Second, the broader adoption of vision SSMs is hindered in domains that require query-based interactions between distinct information streams. This is a result of the inherently causal and self-referential nature of SSMs designed for 1D sequence modeling tasks. This fusion mechanism is indispensable for critical perception tasks such as multi-view 3D fusion. To address these limitations, we propose Deformba, a context adaptive method that dynamically augments the spatial structural information while maintaining the linear complexity of SSMs. Deformba also allows multi-modal fusion like cross attention. To demonstrate the effectiveness and general applicability of Deformba, we test its performance on general 2D vision tasks such as image classification, object detection, and segmentation, as well as 3D vision tasks like BEV perception. Extensive experiments show that Deformba achieves strong performance across various visual perception benchmarks.

Cross-View Attention Fusion Net: A Prior-Guided Dual-View Representation Learning for Cardiac Output Estimation from Short-Term PPG Signals

Accurate cardiac output (CO) estimation from photoplethysmography (PPG) is promising for unobtrusive hemodynamic monitoring, but remains difficult since CO is jointly determined by cardiac function and vascular tone. Conventional feature-based models use physiologically meaningful PPG descriptors, yet depend on accurate pulse detection and may miss latent temporal relationships. In contrast, fully end-to-end deep learning models learn directly from raw PPG but often underuse established PPG-derived prior information. Here, we introduce the Cross-View Attention Fusion Network (CVAF-Net), a prior-guided dual-view deep learning model for CO estimation from short, fixed-length PPG segments. CVAF-Net processes raw PPG as a temporal view and a feature sequence map (FSM) as a structured prior-guided view, and fuses the two representations through cross-view attention. The model was independently evaluated using 5-, 15-, and 30-s segments from three datasets: simulated pulse waves (3323 subjects), vasoconstriction provocation (79 subjects), and resting/cycling activities (10 subjects), and was compared with multiple machine learning and deep learning benchmarks. CVAF-Net outperformed most benchmark methods and achieved performance comparable to a state-of-the-art Transformer-based model, with a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.19 L/min (MAPE: 3.95%) on simulated data and high accuracy in real-world settings (minimum MAE: 1.20 L/min). Importantly, CVAF-Net reduced FLOPs by twelvefold compared with the leading Transformer-based model. Plausibility analysis showed physiologically consistent CO estimates, with expected correlations with age (ρ=0.274ρ= -0.274), heart rate (ρ=0.894ρ= 0.894), and systemic vascular resistance (ρ=0.740ρ= -0.740). These findings indicate that CVAF-Net provides an accurate, computationally efficient, and generalizable approach for continuous wearable-based CO monitoring.

FusionCell: Cross-Attentive Fusion of Layout Geometry and Netlist Topology for Standard-Cell Performance Prediction

Standard cells form the building blocks of digital circuits, so their delay and power critically influence chip-level performance; yet characterization still relies on slow simulation sweeps, and many fast predictors ignore layout geometry, missing coupling and layout-dependent effects. The challenge is to jointly represent layout geometry and netlist topology so models capture fine-grained spatial details together with structural connectivity for accurate performance prediction. We introduce FusionCell, a dual-modality predictor that treats routed layout geometry and netlist topology as inputs and fuses them explicitly in a unified model. A DeiT encoder processes three-layer routed layouts, while a graph transformer models heterogeneous device/net graphs. The modalities are integrated through a topology-guided mechanism, where the netlist acts as a structural "map" to actively query relevant physical regions in the layout for joint geometric and topological reasoning. We build a 7nm dataset based on the ASAP7 PDK with over 19.5k cells spanning 149 types using automatic tools, targeting six metrics: signal rise/fall delay, transition, and power. Experimental results demonstrate that FusionCell reduces regression error, with an average MAPE of 0.92 percent, and improves Spearman/Kendall ranking over baselines, while accelerating the characterization process by orders of magnitude compared to circuit simulation.

Rethinking Graph Convolution for 2D-to-3D Hand Pose Lifting

Graph convolutional networks (GCNs) are widely used for 3D hand pose estimation, where the hand skeleton is encoded as a fixed adjacency graph. We revisit whether this is the most effective way to incorporate hand topology in 2D-to-3D lifting. In this paper, we perform controlled, parameter-matched ablations on the FPHA benchmark and show that standard multi-head self-attention consistently outperforms GCN baselines. Even when the GCN is strengthened with multi-hop adjacency and matched parameter count, self-attention reduces MPJPE from 12.36 mm to 10.09 mm. A skeleton-constrained graph attention network recovers most of this gap, indicating that input-dependent aggregation is a major source of improvement, while fully connected attention yields additional gains. We further show that hand topology is most effective when introduced as a soft structural prior through graph-distance positional encoding, rather than as a hard adjacency constraint. These results suggest that, for hand pose lifting, adaptive spatial attention is a more effective inductive bias than fixed graph convolution.

USEMA: a Scalable Efficient Mamba Like Attention for Medical Image Segmentation

Accurate medical image segmentation is an integral part of the medical image analysis pipeline that requires the ability to merge local and global information. While vision transformers are able to capture global interactions using vanilla self-attention, their quadratic computational complexity in the input size remains a struggle for medical image segmentation tasks. Motivated by the dispersion property of vanilla self-attention and recent development of Mamba form of attention, Scalable and Efficient Mamba like Attention (SEMA) utilizes token localization via local window attention to avoid dispersion and maintain focusing, complemented by theoretically consistent arithmetic averaging to capture global aspect of attention. In this work, we present USEMA, a hybrid UNet architecture that merges the local feature extraction ability of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) with SEMA attention. We conduct experiments with USEMA across a variety of modalities and image sizes, demonstrating improved computational efficiency compared to transformer based models using full self-attention, and superior segmentation performance relative to purely convolution and Mamba-based models.

FedFrozen: Two-Stage Federated Optimization via Attention Kernel Freezing

Federated learning with heterogeneous clients remains a significant challenge for deep learning, primarily due to client drift arising from inconsistent local updates. Existing federated optimization methods typically address this issue through objective-level regularization or update-correction mechanisms. Recent studies, however, suggest that Transformer-based architectures may be inherently more robust than conventional models under heterogeneous federated training. Motivated by this observation, we investigate how different parameter components within the attention mechanism influence federated optimization. Specifically, we decompose the attention module into a query/key block, which determines the attention kernel, and a value block, which performs semantic transformation under the induced kernel. Based on this perspective, we propose FedFrozen, a two-stage federated optimization framework that first performs full-model warm-up training and then freezes the query/key block while continuing to optimize the value block. Under a linear-attention formulation, we show that the warm-up stage can be interpreted as an inexact descent procedure on a regularized kernel-profile objective, while the frozen stage reduces to a restricted value-block optimization problem under a fixed attention kernel. Our analysis further reveals an explicit trade-off that governs the choice of warm-up length. Simulations validate the predicted bias-drift behavior, and real-data experiments demonstrate that FedFrozen improves both the stability and effectiveness of Transformer models in heterogeneous federated learning.

Towards Visual Query Localization in the 3D World

Visual query localization (VQL) aims to predict the spatio-temporal response of the most recent occurrence in a sequence given a query. Currently, most research focuses on visual query localization in 2D videos, while its counterpart in 3D space has received little attention. In this paper, we make the first attempt to address visual query localization in the 3D world by introducing a novel benchmark, dubbed 3DVQL. Specifically, 3DVQL contains 2,002 sequences with around 170,000 frames and 6.4K response track segments from 38 object categories. Each sequence in 3DVQL is provided with multiple modalities, including point clouds, RGB images, and depth images, to support flexible research. To ensure high-quality annotations, each sequence is manually annotated with multiple rounds of verification and refinement. To the best of our knowledge, 3DVQL is the first benchmark for 3D multimodal visual query localization. To facilitate comparison in subsequent research, we implement a series of representative 3D multimodal VQL baselines using point clouds and RGB images. The experimental results show that existing methods exhibit significant performance variations across different fusion modules. To encourage future research, we propose a lift-and-attention fusion algorithm named LaF, which significantly outperforms existing baseline models. Our benchmark and model will be publicly released at https://github.com/wuhengliangliang/3DVQL.

Selective Attention-Based Network for Robust Infrared Small Target Detection

Infrared small target detection (IRSTD) plays a pivotal role in a broad spectrum of mission-critical applications, including maritime surveillance, military search and rescue, early warning systems, and precision-guided strikes, all of which demand the precise identification of dim, sub-pixel targets amid highly cluttered infrared backgrounds. Despite significant progress driven by deep learning methods, fundamental challenges persist: infrared small targets occupy extremely limited spatial extents (often only a few pixels), exhibit low signal-to-clutter ratios, and are easily confused with structurally complex backgrounds that frequently induce false alarms. Existing encoder-decoder architectures suffer from two key limitations - an information bottleneck in early convolutional stages that undermines fine-grained target perception, and static skip connections that lack the dynamic adaptability required to discriminate between genuine targets and pseudo-target regions. To address these challenges, we propose SANet, a Selective Attention-based Network built upon the classical U-Net framework and augmented with two novel components: (1) a \emph{Dual-path Semantic-aware Module} (DSM) that integrates standard convolutions for local spatial detail preservation with pinwheel-shaped convolutions for expanded, direction-sensitive receptive fields, followed by a Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) for fine-grained spatial-channel feature recalibration; and (2) a \emph{Selective Attention Fusion Module} (SAFM) that replaces conventional static skip connections with a spatially adaptive, learnable weighting mechanism to perform context-aware, cross-scale feature fusion.

A Synergistic CNN-Transformer Network with Pooling Attention Fusion for Hyperspectral Image Classification

In the hyperspectral image (HSI) classification task, each pixel is categorized into a specific land-cover category or material. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and transformers have been widely used to extract local and non-local features in HSI classification. Recent works have utilized a multi-scale vision transformer (ViT) to enhance spectral feature capture and yield promising results. However, most existing methods still face challenges in the effective joint use of spatial-spectral information and in preserving information across layers during the propagation process. To address these issues, we propose a synergistic CNN-Transformer network with pooling attention fusion for HSI classification, which collaboratively utilizes CNNs and ViT to process spatial and spectral features separately. Specifically, we propose a Twin-Branch Feature Extraction (TBFE) module, which employs 3D and 2D convolution in parallel to comprehensively extract spectral and spatial features from HSI. A hybrid pooling attention (HPA) module is designed to aggregate spatial attention. Moreover, a cascade transformer encoder is employed for global spectral feature extraction, and a simple yet efficient cross-layer feature fusion (CFF) module is designed to reduce the loss of crucial information in the previous network layers. Extensive experiments are conducted on several representative datasets to demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed method compared to the state-of-the-art works. Discriminative-Generative Synergy for Occlusion Robust 3D Human Mesh Recovery

3D human mesh recovery from monocular RGB images aims to estimate anatomically plausible 3D human models for downstream applications, but remains challenging under partial or severe occlusions. Regression-based methods are efficient yet often produce implausible or inaccurate results in unconstrained scenarios, while diffusion-based methods provide strong generative priors for occluded regions but may weaken fidelity to rare poses due to over-reliance on generation. To address these limitations, we propose a brain-inspired synergistic framework that integrates the discriminative power of vision transformers with the generative capability of conditional diffusion models. Specifically, the ViT-based pathway extracts deterministic visual cues from visible regions, while the diffusion-based pathway synthesizes structurally coherent human body representations. To effectively bridge the two pathways, we design a diverse-consistent feature learning module to align discriminative features with generative priors, and a cross-attention multi-level fusion mechanism to enable bidirectional interaction across semantic levels. Experiments on standard benchmarks demonstrate that our method achieves superior performance on key metrics and shows strong robustness in complex real-world scenarios.

StructSAM: Structure- and Spectrum-Preserving Token Merging for Segment Anything Models

Recent token merging techniques for Vision Transformers (ViTs) provide substantial speedups by reducing the number of tokens processed by self-attention, often without retraining. However, their direct application to the Segment Anything Model (SAM) family is nontrivial: SAM's image encoder mixes windowed and global attention, and its mask decoder relies on dense, prompt-conditioned features for precise boundary prediction. We systematically evaluate representative token-merging methods on SAM and Medical SAM in a strict off-the-shelf setting, and find that existing destination-selection heuristics can erode boundaries and leak prompt information as merge rates increase. We propose \textbf{StructSAM}, a resolution-preserving merge-unmerge framework tailored to SAM. StructSAM computes a lightweight token-energy score from first-order feature gradients, uses grid-based flatness screening to protect boundary and prompt regions, and merges tokens within flat areas toward low-energy destinations with explicit token recovery. We further provide a spectral graph coarsening view showing that score-guided merging yields bounded Laplacian spectral distortion compared to random or window-restricted baselines. Across eight natural and medical benchmarks, StructSAM reduces encoder FLOPs by 25-30% (up to 40%+ with prompt-aware merging) with minor drops in mIoU/Dice, consistently outperforming ToMe, PiToMe, ToMeSD, VidToMe, and ALGM at the same compute.

Attentive multilayer fusion for vision transformers

With the rise of large-scale foundation models, efficiently adapting them to downstream tasks remains a central challenge. Linear probing, which freezes the backbone and trains a lightweight head, is computationally efficient but often restricted to last-layer representations. We show that task-relevant information is distributed across the network hierarchy rather than encoded solely in the last layers. To leverage this distribution of information, we apply an attentive probing mechanism that dynamically fuses representations from all layers of a Vision Transformer. This attentive layer fusion (ALF) learns to identify the most relevant layers for a target task and combines low-level structural cues with high-level semantic abstractions. Across 20 diverse datasets and multiple pretrained foundation models, ALF achieves consistent, substantial gains over standard linear probes. Attention heatmaps further reveal that tasks different from the pre-training domain benefit most from intermediate representations. Overall, our findings underscore the value of intermediate layers and demonstrate a principled, task-aware approach for unlocking their potential for probing-based adaptation.

Borrowing from anything: A generalizable framework for reference-guided instance editing

Reference-guided instance editing is fundamentally limited by semantic entanglement, where a reference's intrinsic appearance is intertwined with its extrinsic attributes. The key challenge lies in disentangling what information should be borrowed from the reference, and determining how to apply it appropriately to the target. To tackle this challenge, we propose GENIE, a Generalizable Instance Editing framework capable of achieving explicit disentanglement. GENIE first corrects spatial misalignments with a Spatial Alignment Module (SAM). Then, an Adaptive Residual Scaling Module (ARSM) learns what to borrow by amplifying salient intrinsic cues while suppressing extrinsic attributes, while a Progressive Attention Fusion (PAF) mechanism learns how to render this appearance onto the target, preserving its structure. Extensive experiments on the challenging AnyInsertion dataset demonstrate that GENIE achieves state-of-the-art fidelity and robustness, setting a new standard for disentanglement-based instance editing.

StyleFusion360: View-Consistent Head Stylization via Adaptive Style Modulation

3D head stylization enables expressive reimagining of human faces for creative visual experiences in digital media. Existing 3D-aware methods often require computationally intensive optimization or per-style fine-tuning, limiting flexibility and user control. To overcome these challenges, we introduce StyleFusion360, a diffusion-based framework for multi-view consistent, identity-preserving 3D head stylization from a single style reference image, without per-style training. Our approach enhances the Style Fusion Attention mechanism with a style-conditioned key modulation mechanism that aligns content and style representations for fine-grained and controllable stylization. We further provide a user-controllable slider for adjusting stylization intensity. In addition, StyleFusion360 supports local multi-edit stylization, enabling targeted edits such as modifying hair or eyes independently. Extensive experiments on FFHQ and RenderMe360 demonstrate that StyleFusion360 produces high-quality, controllable, and visually compelling stylizations, outperforming state-of-the-art GAN- and diffusion-based methods across diverse style domains.

FreeFuse: Multi-Subject LoRA Fusion via Adaptive Token-Level Routing at Test Time

This paper proposes FreeFuse, a training-free framework for multi-subject text-to-image generation through automatic fusion of multiple subject LoRAs. In contrast to prior studies that focus on retraining LoRAs to alleviate feature conflicts, our analysis shows that spatially routing LoRA residuals to their intended semantic regions provides an effective mechanism for suppressing direct cross-region LoRA interference while preserving the base model's global contextual reasoning. Accordingly, we implement Adaptive Token-Level Routing during the inference phase. However, obtaining reliable routing regions remains challenging. Existing methods that rely on text-image latent association, such as raw cross-attention or concept-level similarity matching, often suffer from sparse activations, hole artifacts, and unstable localization when handling visually similar subjects, leading to incomplete or ambiguous subject masks. To address these issues, we introduce FreeFuseAttn, a mechanism that exploits the flow matching model's intrinsic semantic alignment to dynamically match subject-specific tokens to their corresponding spatial regions at early denoising timesteps, thereby bypassing the need for external segmentors. FreeFuse distinguishes itself through high practicality: it necessitates no additional training, model modifications, or user-defined spatial constraints. Users need only provide subject activation words to achieve seamless integration into standard workflows. Extensive experiments validate that FreeFuse outperforms existing approaches in both identity preservation and compositional fidelity. The project page is at: https://future-item.github.io/FreeFuse/.

CrossFusion: A Multi-Scale Cross-Attention Convolutional Fusion Model for Cancer Survival Prediction

Cancer survival prediction from whole slide images (WSIs) is a challenging task in computational pathology due to the large size, irregular shape, and high granularity of the WSIs. These characteristics make it difficult to capture the full spectrum of patterns, from subtle cellular abnormalities to complex tissue interactions, which are crucial for accurate prognosis. To address this, we propose CrossFusion, a novel multi-scale feature integration framework that extracts and fuses information from patches across different magnification levels. By effectively modeling both scale-specific patterns and their interactions, CrossFusion generates a rich feature set that enhances survival prediction accuracy. We validate our approach across six cancer types from public datasets, demonstrating significant improvements over existing state-of-the-art methods. Moreover, when coupled with domain-specific feature extraction backbones, our method shows further gains in prognostic performance compared to general-purpose backbones. Efficient Concertormer for Image Deblurring and Beyond

The Transformer architecture has achieved remarkable success in natural language processing and high-level vision tasks over the past few years. However, the inherent complexity of self-attention is quadratic to the size of the image, leading to unaffordable computational costs for high-resolution vision tasks. In this paper, we introduce Concertormer, featuring a novel Concerto Self-Attention (CSA) mechanism designed for image deblurring. The proposed CSA divides self-attention into two distinct components: one emphasizes generally global and another concentrates on specifically local correspondence. By retaining partial information in additional dimensions independent from the self-attention calculations, our method effectively captures global contextual representations with complexity linear to the image size. To effectively leverage the additional dimensions, we present a Cross-Dimensional Communication module, which linearly combines attention maps and thus enhances expressiveness. Moreover, we amalgamate the two-staged Transformer design into a single stage using the proposed gated-dconv MLP architecture. While our primary objective is single-image motion deblurring, extensive quantitative and qualitative evaluations demonstrate that our approach performs favorably against the state-of-the-art methods in other tasks, such as deraining and deblurring with JPEG artifacts. The source codes and trained models will be made available to the public.
