Traffic Accident Anticipation
Overview
Traffic accident anticipation studies how to estimate danger before a collision occurs, either from video over the next seconds or from spatial and temporal patterns in road-crash data. Video methods use temporal transformers, object or graph reasoning, vision-language models, and future-feature prediction; systems may also model risk as a changing curve to improve warning lead time. Geographic forecasting commonly uses spatiotemporal networks such as ConvLSTMs and CNN–Transformers to identify risky road segments or emerging crash hotspots, while video methods are tested on benchmarks such as DAD, DoTA, DADA-2000, CAP, and Nexar. The central challenge is giving early, reliable warnings without excessive false alarms across rare events and unfamiliar settings, alongside concerns about label quality and whether reported gains beat strong historical baselines.
