Disaster Response
Overview
The field studies how to turn fast-changing information into decisions that protect people and restore essential services during emergencies. Computer vision and remote sensing assess floods, fires, and building damage, while language tools extract locations and needs from crisis messages, calls, and reports. Optimization, temporal planning, and simulations support evacuation, routing, supply delivery, and coordination among people, vehicles, and drones. A central challenge is ensuring that systems are grounded, calibrated, and useful under real operational constraints, since strong benchmark scores or convincing reports do not guarantee reliable decisions in the field.
