Overview

3D reconstruction studies how to infer the shape and appearance of objects or scenes, along with camera positions and motion, from partial observations. Methods range from structure-from-motion and multi-view stereo to neural radiance fields, Gaussian splatting, signed distance fields, meshes, and feed-forward models that predict geometry directly; some also use diffusion priors, active view selection, or physical sensor models. Applications include mapping and robotics, digital twins, medical imaging, and human or object modeling, with evaluations often comparing both rendered views and geometric accuracy on indoor, outdoor, and specialized datasets. A central challenge is that realistic novel-view images do not always imply accurate, metrically consistent geometry, especially with sparse or unposed views, changing scenes, difficult materials, or limited computation.

SyncFix: Fixing 3D Reconstructions via Multi-View Synchronization

We present SyncFix, a framework that enforces cross-view consistency during the diffusion-based refinement of reconstructed scenes. SyncFix formulates refinement as a joint latent bridge matching problem, synchronizing distorted and clean representations across multiple views to fix the semantic and geometric inconsistencies. This means SyncFix learns a joint conditional over multiple views to enforce consistency throughout the denoising trajectory. Our training is done only on image pairs, but it generalizes naturally to an arbitrary number of views during inference. Moreover, reconstruction quality improves with additional views, with diminishing returns at higher view counts. Qualitative and quantitative results demonstrate that SyncFix consistently generates high-quality reconstructions and surpasses current state-of-the-art baselines, even in the absence of clean reference images. SyncFix achieves even higher fidelity when sparse references are available.

Naka-GS: Naka-Guided Chroma Correction and Point-Prior Compaction for Low-Light 3D Gaussian Splatting

Low-light inputs obscure scene content, distort color, and corrupt geometric priors, substantially degrading 3D Gaussian Splatting. Although image enhancement can recover visibility, it often introduces chromatic deviations and fine-scale artifacts that propagate through multi-view reconstruction. Moreover, dense point priors can further amplify these errors and increase optimization cost. To address the coupled challenges, we present Naka-GS, a low-light 3DGS framework that jointly improves observations and Gaussian initialization while retaining the standard 3DGS renderer and training objective. Our Naka-Guided Chroma Correction treats a fixed bionic response as a photometric anchor and learns bounded, frequency-decoupled luminance and chromatic corrections, preserving fine structures while suppressing residual color and boundary artifacts. The corrected views are reconstructed into dense scene priors, which a lightweight, non-learned Point-Prior Compaction Module refines through voxel pooling and distance-adaptive progressive pruning. On eight scene-disjoint RealX3D scenes, Naka-GS achieves 20.735~dB PSNR, 0.7408 SSIM, and 0.3340 LPIPS. PPM reduces initialization from 1.00M to 59.52K points and shortens average 3DGS optimization time by 37.7%.The code is available at https://github.com/RunyuZhu/Naka-GS

Efficient Transceiver Design for Aerial Image Transmission and Large-scale Scene Reconstruction

Large-scale three-dimensional (3D) scene reconstruction in low-altitude intelligent networks (LAIN) demands highly efficient wireless image transmission. However, existing schemes struggle to balance severe pilot overhead with the transmission accuracy required to maintain reconstruction fidelity. To strike a balance between efficiency and reliability, this paper proposes a novel deep learning-based end-to-end (E2E) transceiver design that integrates 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) directly into the training process. By jointly optimizing the communication modules via the combined 3DGS rendering loss, our approach explicitly improves scene recovery quality. Furthermore, this task-driven framework enables the use of a sparse pilot scheme, significantly reducing transmission overhead while maintaining robust image recovery under low-altitude channel conditions. Extensive experiments on real-world aerial image datasets demonstrate that the proposed E2E design significantly outperforms existing baselines, delivering superior transmission performance and accurate 3D scene reconstructions.

EgoFun3D: Modeling Interactive Objects from Egocentric Videos using Function Templates

We present EgoFun3D, a coordinated task formulation, dataset, and benchmark for modeling interactive 3D objects from egocentric videos. Interactive objects are of high interest for embodied AI but scarce, making modeling from readily available real-world videos valuable. Our task focuses on obtaining simulation-ready interactive 3D objects from egocentric video input. While prior work largely focuses on articulations, we capture general cross-part functional mappings (e.g., rotation of stove knob controls stove burner temperature) through function templates, a structured computational representation. Function templates enable precise evaluation and direct compilation into executable code across simulation platforms. To enable comprehensive benchmarking, we introduce a dataset of 517 egocentric videos featuring challenging real-world interactions with paired 3D geometry, segmentation over 2D and 3D, articulation and function template annotations. To tackle the task, we propose a 4-stage pipeline consisting of: 2D part segmentation, reconstruction, articulation estimation, and function template inference. Comprehensive benchmarking shows that the task is challenging for off-the-shelf methods, highlighting avenues for future work.

Ψ-Map: Panoptic Surface Integrated Mapping Enables Real2Sim Transfer

Open-vocabulary panoptic reconstruction is essential for advanced robotics perception and simulation. However, existing methods based on 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) often struggle to simultaneously achieve geometric accuracy, coherent panoptic understanding, and real-time inference frequency in large-scale scenes. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive framework that integrates geometric reinforcement, end-to-end panoptic learning, and efficient rendering. First, to ensure physical realism in large-scale environments, we leverage LiDAR data to construct plane-constrained multimodal Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) and employ 2D Gaussian surfels as the map representation, enabling high-precision surface alignment and continuous geometric supervision. Building upon this, to overcome the error accumulation and cumbersome cross-frame association inherent in traditional multi-stage panoptic segmentation pipelines, we design a query-guided end-to-end learning architecture. By utilizing a local cross-attention mechanism within the view frustum, the system lifts 2D mask features directly into 3D space, achieving globally consistent panoptic understanding. Finally, addressing the computational bottlenecks caused by high-dimensional semantic features, we introduce Precise Tile Intersection and a Top-K Hard Selection strategy to optimize the rendering pipeline. Experimental results demonstrate that our system achieves superior geometric and panoptic reconstruction quality in large-scale scenes while maintaining an inference rate exceeding 40 FPS, meeting the real-time requirements of robotic control loops.

ReplicateAnyScene: Zero-Shot Video-to-3D Composition via Textual-Visual-Spatial Alignment

Humans exhibit an innate capacity to rapidly perceive and segment objects from video observations, and even mentally assemble them into structured 3D scenes. Replicating such capability, termed compositional 3D reconstruction, is pivotal for the advancement of Spatial Intelligence and Embodied AI. However, existing methods struggle to achieve practical deployment due to the insufficient integration of cross-modal information, leaving them dependent on manual object prompting, reliant on auxiliary visual inputs, and restricted to overly simplistic scenes by training biases. To address these limitations, we propose ReplicateAnyScene, a framework capable of fully automated and zero-shot transformation of casually captured videos into compositional 3D scenes. Specifically, our pipeline incorporates a five-stage cascade to extract and structurally align generic priors from vision foundation models across textual, visual, and spatial dimensions, grounding them into structured 3D representations and ensuring semantic coherence and physical plausibility of the constructed scenes. To facilitate a more comprehensive evaluation of this task, we further introduce the C3DR benchmark to assess reconstruction quality from diverse aspects. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of our method over existing baselines in generating high-quality compositional 3D scenes.

Point2Pose: Occlusion-Recovering 6D Pose Tracking and 3D Reconstruction for Multiple Unknown Objects Via 2D Point Trackers

We present Point2Pose, a model-free method for causal 6D pose tracking of multiple rigid objects from monocular RGB-D video. Initialized only from sparse image points on the objects, our approach tracks multiple unseen objects without requiring object CAD models or category priors. Point2Pose leverages a 2D point tracker to obtain long-range correspondences, enabling instant recovery after complete occlusion. Simultaneously, the system incrementally reconstructs an online Truncated Signed Distance Function (TSDF) representation of the tracked targets. Alongside the method, we introduce a new multi-object tracking dataset comprising both simulation and real-world sequences, with motion-capture ground truth for evaluation. Experiments show that Point2Pose trades some single-object pose accuracy for broader model-free tracking capabilities, including multi-object tracking and recovery from complete occlusion. A Comparison of Multi-View Stereo Methods for Photogrammetric 3D Reconstruction: From Traditional to Learning-Based Approaches

Photogrammetric 3D reconstruction has long relied on traditional Structure-from-Motion (SfM) and Multi-View Stereo (MVS) methods, which provide high accuracy but face challenges in speed and scalability. Recently, learning-based MVS methods have emerged, aiming for faster and more efficient reconstruction. This work presents a comparative evaluation between a representative traditional MVS pipeline (COLMAP) and state-of-the-art learning-based approaches, including geometry-guided methods (MVSNet, PatchmatchNet, MVSAnywhere, MVSFormer++) and end-to-end frameworks (Stereo4D, FoundationStereo, DUSt3R, MASt3R, Fast3R, VGGT). Two experiments were conducted on different aerial scenarios. The first experiment used the MARS-LVIG dataset, where ground-truth 3D reconstruction was provided by LiDAR point clouds. The second experiment used a public scene from the Pix4D official website, with ground truth generated by Pix4Dmapper. We evaluated accuracy, coverage, and runtime across all methods. Experimental results show that although COLMAP can provide reliable and geometrically consistent reconstruction results, it requires more computation time. In cases where traditional methods fail in image registration, learning-based approaches exhibit stronger feature-matching capability and greater robustness. Geometry-guided methods usually require careful dataset preparation and often depend on camera pose or depth priors generated by COLMAP. End-to-end methods such as DUSt3R and VGGT achieve competitive accuracy and reasonable coverage while offering substantially faster reconstruction. However, they exhibit relatively large residuals in 3D reconstruction, particularly in challenging scenarios.

FF3R: Feedforward Feature 3D Reconstruction from Unconstrained views

Recent advances in vision foundation models have revolutionized geometry reconstruction and semantic understanding. Yet, most of the existing approaches treat these capabilities in isolation, leading to redundant pipelines and compounded errors. This paper introduces FF3R, a fully annotation-free feed-forward framework that unifies geometric and semantic reasoning from unconstrained multi-view image sequences. Unlike previous methods, FF3R does not require camera poses, depth maps, or semantic labels, relying solely on rendering supervision for RGB and feature maps, establishing a scalable paradigm for unified 3D reasoning. In addition, we address two critical challenges in feedforward feature reconstruction pipelines, namely global semantic inconsistency and local structural inconsistency, through two key innovations: (i) a Token-wise Fusion Module that enriches geometry tokens with semantic context via cross-attention, and (ii) a Semantic-Geometry Mutual Boosting mechanism combining geometry-guided feature warping for global consistency with semantic-aware voxelization for local coherence. Extensive experiments on ScanNet and DL3DV-10K demonstrate FF3R's superior performance in novel-view synthesis, open-vocabulary semantic segmentation, and depth estimation, with strong generalization to in-the-wild scenarios, paving the way for embodied intelligence systems that demand both spatial and semantic understanding.

Incremental Semantics-Aided Meshing from LiDAR-Inertial Odometry and RGB Direct Label Transfer

Geometric high-fidelity mesh reconstruction from LiDAR-inertial scans remains challenging in large, complex indoor environments -- such as cultural buildings -- where point cloud sparsity, geometric drift, and fixed fusion parameters produce holes, over-smoothing, and spurious surfaces at structural boundaries. We propose a modular, incremental RGB+LiDAR pipeline that generates incremental semantics-aided high-quality meshes from indoor scans through scan frame-based direct label transfer. A vision foundation model labels each incoming RGB frame; labels are incrementally projected and fused onto a LiDAR-inertial odometry map; and an incremental semantics-aware Truncated Signed Distance Function (TSDF) fusion step produces the final mesh via marching cubes. This frame-level fusion strategy preserves the geometric fidelity of LiDAR while leveraging rich visual semantics to resolve geometric ambiguities at reconstruction boundaries caused by LiDAR point-cloud sparsity and geometric drift. We demonstrate that semantic guidance improves geometric reconstruction quality; quantitative evaluation is therefore performed using geometric metrics on the Oxford Spires dataset, while results from the NTU VIRAL dataset are analyzed qualitatively. The proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art geometric baselines ImMesh and Voxblox, demonstrating the benefit of semantics-aided fusion for geometric mesh quality. The resulting semantically labelled meshes are of value when reconstructing Universal Scene Description (USD) assets, offering a path from indoor LiDAR scanning to XR and digital modeling.

Robust 4D Visual Geometry Transformer with Uncertainty-Aware Priors

Reconstructing dynamic 4D scenes is an important yet challenging task. While 3D foundation models like VGGT excel in static settings, they often struggle with dynamic sequences where motion causes significant geometric ambiguity. To address this, we present a framework designed to disentangle dynamic and static components by modeling uncertainty across different stages of the reconstruction process. Our approach introduces three synergistic mechanisms: (1) Entropy-Guided Subspace Projection, which leverages information-theoretic weighting to adaptively aggregate multi-head attention distributions, effectively isolating dynamic motion cues from semantic noise; (2) Local-Consistency Driven Geometry Purification, which enforces spatial continuity via radius-based neighborhood constraints to eliminate structural outliers; and (3) Uncertainty-Aware Cross-View Consistency, which formulates multi-view projection refinement as a heteroscedastic maximum likelihood estimation problem, utilizing depth confidence as a probabilistic weight. Experiments on dynamic benchmarks show that our approach outperforms current state-of-the-art methods, reducing Mean Accuracy error by 13.43% and improving segmentation F-measure by 10.49%. Our framework maintains the efficiency of feed-forward inference and requires no task-specific fine-tuning or per-scene optimization.

Structure-Aware Fine-Grained Gaussian Splatting for Expressive Avatar Reconstruction

Reconstructing photorealistic and topology-aware human avatars from monocular videos remains a significant challenge in the fields of computer vision and graphics. While existing 3D human avatar modeling approaches can effectively capture body motion, they often fail to accurately model fine details such as hand movements and facial expressions. To address this, we propose Structure-aware Fine-grained Gaussian Splatting (SFGS), a novel method for reconstructing expressive and coherent full-body 3D human avatars from a monocular video sequence. The SFGS use both spatial-only triplane and time-aware hexplane to capture dynamic features across consecutive frames. A structure-aware gaussian module is designed to capture pose-dependent details in a spatially coherent manner and improve pose and texture expression. To better model hand deformations, we also propose a residual refinement module based on fine-grained hand reconstruction. Our method requires only a single-stage training and outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in both quantitative and qualitative evaluations, generating high-fidelity avatars with natural motion and fine details. Physically Grounded 3D Generative Reconstruction under Hand Occlusion using Proprioception and Multi-Contact Touch

We propose a multimodal, physically grounded approach for metric-scale amodal object reconstruction and pose estimation under severe hand occlusion. Unlike prior occlusion-aware 3D generation methods that rely only on vision, we leverage physical interaction signals: proprioception provides the posed hand geometry, and multi-contact touch constrains where the object surface must lie, reducing ambiguity in occluded regions. We represent object structure as a pose-aware, camera-aligned signed distance field (SDF) and learn a compact latent space with a Structure-VAE. In this latent space, we train a conditional flow-matching diffusion model, pretraining on vision-only images and finetuning on occluded manipulation scenes while conditioning on visible RGB evidence, occluder/visibility masks, the hand latent representation, and tactile information. Crucially, we incorporate physics-based objectives and differentiable decoder-guidance during finetuning and inference to reduce hand--object interpenetration and to align the reconstructed surface with contact observations. Because our method produces a metric, physically consistent structure estimate, it integrates naturally into existing two-stage reconstruction pipelines, where a downstream module refines geometry and predicts appearance. Experiments in simulation show that adding proprioception and touch substantially improves completion under occlusion and yields physically plausible reconstructions at correct real-world scale compared to vision-only baselines; we further validate transfer by deploying the model on a real humanoid robot with an end-effector different from those used during training.

TouchAnything: Diffusion-Guided 3D Reconstruction from Sparse Robot Touches

Accurate object geometry estimation is essential for many downstream tasks, including robotic manipulation and physical interaction. Although vision is the dominant modality for shape perception, it becomes unreliable under occlusions or challenging lighting conditions. In such scenarios, tactile sensing provides direct geometric information through physical contact. However, reconstructing global 3D geometry from sparse local touches alone is fundamentally underconstrained. We present TouchAnything, a framework that leverages a pretrained large-scale 2D vision diffusion model as a semantic and geometric prior for 3D reconstruction from sparse tactile measurements. Unlike prior work that trains category-specific reconstruction networks or learns diffusion models directly from tactile data, we transfer the geometric knowledge encoded in pretrained visual diffusion models to the tactile domain. Given sparse contact constraints and a coarse class-level description of the object, we formulate reconstruction as an optimization problem that enforces tactile consistency while guiding solutions toward shapes consistent with the diffusion prior. Our method reconstructs accurate geometries from only a few touches, outperforms existing baselines, and enables open-world 3D reconstruction of previously unseen object instances. MASS: Mesh-inellipse Aligned Deformable Surfel Splatting for Hand Reconstruction and Rendering from Egocentric Monocular Video

Reconstructing high-fidelity 3D hands from egocentric monocular videos remains a challenge due to the limitations in capturing high-resolution geometry, hand-object interactions, and complex objects on hands. Additionally, existing methods often incur high computational costs, making them impractical for real-time applications. In this work, we propose Mesh-inellipse Aligned deformable Surfel Splatting (MASS) to address these challenges by leveraging a deformable 2D Gaussian Surfel representation. We introduce the mesh-aligned Steiner Inellipse and fractal densification for mesh-to-surfel conversion that initiates high-resolution 2D Gaussian surfels from coarse parametric hand meshes, providing surface representation with photorealistic rendering potential. Second, we propose Gaussian Surfel Deformation, which enables efficient modeling of hand deformations and personalized features by predicting residual updates to surfel attributes and introducing an opacity mask to refine geometry and texture without adaptive density control. In addition, we propose a two-stage training strategy and a novel binding loss to improve the optimization robustness and reconstruction quality. Extensive experiments on the ARCTIC dataset, the Hand Appearance dataset, and the Interhand2.6M dataset demonstrate that our model achieves superior reconstruction performance compared to state-of-the-art methods.

ETCH-X: Robustify Expressive Body Fitting to Clothed Humans with Composable Datasets

Human body fitting, which aligns parametric body models such as SMPL to raw 3D point clouds of clothed humans, serves as a crucial first step for downstream tasks like animation and texturing. An effective fitting method should be both locally expressive-capturing fine details such as hands and facial features-and globally robust to handle real-world challenges, including clothing dynamics, pose variations, and noisy or partial inputs. Existing approaches typically excel in only one aspect, lacking an all-in-one solution. We upgrade ETCH to ETCH-X, which leverages a tightness-aware fitting paradigm to filter out clothing dynamics ("undress"), extends expressiveness with SMPL-X, and replaces explicit sparse markers (which are highly sensitive to partial data) with implicit dense correspondences ("dense fit") for more robust and fine-grained body fitting. Our disentangled "undress" and "dense fit" modular stages enable separate and scalable training on composable data sources, including diverse simulated garments (CLOTH3D), large-scale full-body motions (AMASS), and fine-grained hand gestures (InterHand2.6M), improving outfit generalization and pose robustness of both bodies and hands. Our approach achieves robust and expressive fitting across diverse clothing, poses, and levels of input completeness, delivering a substantial performance improvement over ETCH on both: 1) seen data, such as 4D-Dress (MPJPE-All, 33.0% ) and CAPE (V2V-Hands, 35.8% ), and 2) unseen data, such as BEDLAM2.0 (MPJPE-All, 80.8% ; V2V-All, 80.5% ). Scal3R: Scalable Test-Time Training for Large-Scale 3D Reconstruction

This paper addresses the task of large-scale 3D scene reconstruction from long video sequences. Recent feed-forward reconstruction models have shown promising results by directly regressing 3D geometry from RGB images without explicit 3D priors or geometric constraints. However, these methods often struggle to maintain reconstruction accuracy and consistency over long sequences due to limited memory capacity and the inability to effectively capture global contextual cues. In contrast, humans can naturally exploit the global understanding of the scene to inform local perception. Motivated by this, we propose a novel neural global context representation that efficiently compresses and retains long-range scene information, enabling the model to leverage extensive contextual cues for enhanced reconstruction accuracy and consistency. The context representation is realized through a set of lightweight neural sub-networks that are rapidly adapted during test time via self-supervised objectives, which substantially increases memory capacity without incurring significant computational overhead. The experiments on multiple large-scale benchmarks, including the KITTI Odometry~\cite{Geiger2012CVPR} and Oxford Spires~\cite{tao2025spires} datasets, demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in handling ultra-large scenes, achieving leading pose accuracy and state-of-the-art 3D reconstruction accuracy while maintaining efficiency. Brain3D: EEG-to-3D Decoding of Visual Representations via Multimodal Reasoning

Decoding visual information from electroencephalography (EEG) has recently achieved promising results, primarily focusing on reconstructing two-dimensional (2D) images from brain activity. However, the reconstruction of three-dimensional (3D) representations remains largely unexplored. This limits the geometric understanding and reduces the applicability of neural decoding in different contexts. To address this gap, we propose Brain3D, a multimodal architecture for EEG-to-3D reconstruction based on EEG-to-image decoding. It progressively transforms neural representations into the 3D domain using geometry-aware generative reasoning. Our pipeline first produces visually grounded images from EEG signals, then employs a multimodal large language model to extract structured 3D-aware descriptions, which guide a diffusion-based generation stage whose outputs are finally converted into coherent 3D meshes via a single-image-to-3D model. By decomposing the problem into structured stages, the proposed approach avoids direct EEG-to-3D mappings and enables scalable brain-driven 3D generation. We conduct a comprehensive evaluation comparing the reconstructed 3D outputs against the original visual stimuli, assessing both semantic alignment and geometric fidelity. Experimental results demonstrate strong performance of the proposed architecture, achieving up to 85.4% 10-way Top-1 EEG decoding accuracy and 0.648 CLIPScore, supporting the feasibility of multimodal EEG-driven 3D reconstruction.

Stitch4D: Sparse Multi-Location 4D Urban Reconstruction via Spatio-Temporal Interpolation

Dynamic urban environments are often captured by cameras placed at spatially separated locations with little or no view overlap. However, most existing 4D reconstruction methods assume densely overlapping views and struggle under sparse multi-location observations, producing unstable reconstructions in unobserved intermediate regions. To address this practical yet underexplored setting, we propose Stitch4D, a unified 4D reconstruction framework that compensates for missing spatial coverage in sparsely observed urban environments. Stitch4D synthesizes intermediate bridge views between distant camera locations and jointly optimizes real and synthesized observations in a unified coordinate frame with inter-location consistency constraints. By recovering intermediate spatial coverage before optimization, Stitch4D mitigates geometric collapse and improves reconstruction stability in sparse regions. To evaluate this setting, we introduce Urban Sparse 4D (U-S4D), a controlled CARLA-based benchmark for free-viewpoint reconstruction under sparse multi-location configurations. Experiments on U-S4D show that Stitch4D consistently outperforms representative 4D reconstruction baselines in image-quality metrics. These results suggest that recovering intermediate spatial coverage is an effective strategy for stabilizing 4D reconstruction in sparse urban environments. Sampling-Aware 3D Spatial Analysis in Multiplexed Imaging

Highly multiplexed microscopy enables rich spatial characterization of tissues at single-cell resolution, yet most analyses rely on two-dimensional sections despite inherently three-dimensional tissue organization. Acquiring dense volumetric data in spatial proteomics remains costly and technically challenging, leaving practitioners to choose between 2D sections or 3D serial sections under limited imaging budgets. In this work, we study how sampling geometry impacts the stability of commonly used spatial statistics, and we introduce a geometry-aware reconstruction module that enables sparse yet consistent 3D analysis from serial sections. Using controlled simulations, we show that planar sampling reliably recovers global cell-type abundance but exhibits high variance for local statistics such as cell clustering and cell-cell interactions, particularly for rare or spatially localized populations. We observe consistent behavior in real multiplexed datasets, where interaction metrics and neighborhood relationships fluctuate substantially across individual sections. To support sparse 3D analysis in practice, we present a reconstruction approach that links cell projections across adjacent sections using phenotype and proximity constraints and recovers single-cell 3D centroids using cell-type-specific shape priors. We further analyze the trade-off between section spacing, coverage, and redundancy, identifying acquisition regimes that maximize reconstruction utility under fixed imaging budgets. We validate the reconstruction module on a public imaging mass cytometry dataset with dense axial sampling and demonstrate its downstream utility on an in-house CODEX dataset by enabling structure-level 3D analyses that are unreliable in 2D. Together, our results provide diagnostic tools and practical guidance for deciding when 2D sampling suffices and when sparse 3D reconstruction is warranted.

A Semi-Automated Framework for 3D Reconstruction of Medieval Manuscript Miniatures

This paper presents a semi-automated framework for transforming two-dimensional miniatures from medieval manuscripts into three-dimensional digital models suitable for extended reality (XR), tactile 3Dprinting, and web-based visualization. We evaluate seven image-to-3D methods (TripoSR, SF3D, SPAR3D, TRELLIS, Wonder3D, SAM3D, Hi3DGen) on 69manuscript figures from two collections using rendering-based metrics (Silhouette IoU, LPIPS, CLIPScore) and volumetric measures (Depth Range Ratio, watertight percentage), revealing a trade-off between volumetric expansion and geometric fidelity. Hi3DGen balances topological quality with rich surface detail through its normal bridging approach, making it a good starting point for expert refinement. Our pipeline combines SAM segmentation, Hi3DGen mesh generation, expert refinement in ZBrush, and AI-assisted texturing. Two case studies on Gothic illuminations from the Decretum Gratiani (Vatican Library) and Renaissance miniatures by Giulio Clovio demonstrate applicability across artistic traditions. The resulting models can support WebXR visualization, AR overlay on physical manuscripts, and tactile 3D~prints for visually impaired users.

AnchorSplat: Feed-Forward 3D Gaussian Splatting with 3D Geometric Priors

Recent feed-forward Gaussian reconstruction models adopt a pixel-aligned formulation that maps each 2D pixel to a 3D Gaussian, entangling Gaussian representations tightly with the input images. In this paper, we propose AnchorSplat, a novel feed-forward 3DGS framework for scene-level reconstruction that represents the scene directly in 3D space. AnchorSplat introduces an anchor-aligned Gaussian representation guided by 3D geometric priors (e.g., sparse point clouds, voxels, or RGB-D point clouds), enabling a more geometry-aware renderable 3D Gaussians that is independent of image resolution and number of views. This design substantially reduces the number of required Gaussians, improving computational efficiency while enhancing reconstruction fidelity. Beyond the anchor-aligned design, we utilize a Gaussian Refiner to adjust the intermediate Gaussiansy via merely a few forward passes. Experiments on the ScanNet++ v2 NVS benchmark demonstrate the SOTA performance, outperforming previous methods with more view-consistent and substantially fewer Gaussian primitives.

Synthetic Dataset Generation for Partially Observed Indoor Objects

Learning-based methods for 3D scene reconstruction and object completion require large datasets containing partial scans paired with complete ground-truth geometry. However, acquiring such datasets using real-world scanning systems is costly and time-consuming, particularly when accurate ground truth for occluded regions is required. In this work, we present a virtual scanning framework implemented in Unity for generating realistic synthetic 3D scan datasets. The proposed system simulates the behaviour of real-world scanners using configurable parameters such as scan resolution, measurement range, and distance-dependent noise. Instead of directly sampling mesh surfaces, the framework performs ray-based scanning from virtual viewpoints, enabling realistic modelling of sensor visibility and occlusion effects. In addition, panoramic images captured at the scanner location are used to assign colours to the resulting point clouds. To support scalable dataset creation, the scanner is integrated with a procedural indoor scene generation pipeline that automatically produces diverse room layouts and furniture arrangements. Using this system, we introduce the V-Scan dataset, which contains synthetic indoor scans together with object-level partial point clouds, voxel-based occlusion grids, and complete ground-truth geometry. The resulting dataset provides valuable supervision for training and evaluating learning-based methods for scene reconstruction and object completion.

Appearance Decomposition Gaussian Splatting for Multi-Traversal Reconstruction

Multi-traversal scene reconstruction is important for high-fidelity autonomous driving simulation and digital twin construction. This task involves integrating multiple sequences captured from the same geographical area at different times. In this context, a primary challenge is the significant appearance inconsistency across traversals caused by varying illumination and environmental conditions, despite the shared underlying geometry. This paper presents ADM-GS (Appearance Decomposition Gaussian Splatting for Multi-Traversal Reconstruction), a framework that applies an explicit appearance decomposition to the static background to alleviate appearance entanglement across traversals. For the static background, we decompose the appearance into traversal-invariant material, representing intrinsic material properties, and traversal-dependent illumination, capturing lighting variations. Specifically, we propose a neural light field that utilizes a frequency-separated hybrid encoding strategy. By incorporating surface normals and explicit reflection vectors, this design separately captures low-frequency diffuse illumination and high-frequency specular reflections. Quantitative evaluations on the Argoverse 2 and Waymo Open datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of ADM-GS. In multi-traversal experiments, our method achieves a +0.98 dB PSNR improvement over existing latent-based baselines while producing more consistent appearance across traversals. Code will be available at https://github.com/IRMVLab/ADM-GS.

EfficientMonoHair: Fast Strand-Level Reconstruction from Monocular Video via Multi-View Direction Fusion

Strand-level hair geometry reconstruction is a fundamental problem in virtual human modeling and the digitization of hairstyles. However, existing methods still suffer from a significant trade-off between accuracy and efficiency. Implicit neural representations can capture the global hair shape but often fail to preserve fine-grained strand details, while explicit optimization-based approaches achieve high-fidelity reconstructions at the cost of heavy computation and poor scalability. To address this issue, we propose EfficientMonoHair, a fast and accurate framework that combines the implicit neural network with multi-view geometric fusion for strand-level reconstruction from monocular video. Our method introduces a fusion-patch-based multi-view optimization that reduces the number of optimization iterations for point cloud direction, as well as a novel parallel hair-growing strategy that relaxes voxel occupancy constraints, allowing large-scale strand tracing to remain stable and robust even under inaccurate or noisy orientation fields. Extensive experiments on representative real-world hairstyles demonstrate that our method can robustly reconstruct high-fidelity strand geometries with accuracy. On synthetic benchmarks, our method achieves reconstruction quality comparable to state-of-the-art methods, while improving runtime efficiency by nearly an order of magnitude.

3D Smoke Scene Reconstruction Guided by Vision Priors from Multimodal Large Language Models

Reconstructing 3D scenes from smoke-degraded multi-view images is particularly difficult because smoke introduces strong scattering effects, view-dependent appearance changes, and severe degradation of cross-view consistency. To address these issues, we propose a framework that integrates visual priors with efficient 3D scene modeling. We employ Nano-Banana-Pro to enhance smoke-degraded images and provide clearer visual observations for reconstruction and develop Smoke-GS, a medium-aware 3D Gaussian Splatting framework for smoke scene reconstruction and restoration-oriented novel view synthesis. Smoke-GS models the scene using explicit 3D Gaussians and introduces a lightweight view-dependent medium branch to capture direction-dependent appearance variations caused by smoke. Our method preserves the rendering efficiency of 3D Gaussian Splatting while improving robustness to smoke-induced degradation. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method for generating consistent and visually clear novel views in challenging smoke environments.

FunRec: Reconstructing Functional 3D Scenes from Egocentric Interaction Videos

We present FunRec, a method for reconstructing functional 3D digital twins of indoor scenes directly from egocentric RGB-D interaction videos. Unlike existing methods on articulated reconstruction, which rely on controlled setups, multi-state captures, or CAD priors, FunRec operates directly on in-the-wild human interaction sequences to recover interactable 3D scenes. It automatically discovers articulated parts, estimates their kinematic parameters, tracks their 3D motion, and reconstructs static and moving geometry in canonical space, yielding simulation-compatible meshes. Across new real and simulated benchmarks, FunRec surpasses prior work by a large margin, achieving up to +50 mIoU improvement in part segmentation, 5-10 times lower articulation and pose errors, and significantly higher reconstruction accuracy. We further demonstrate applications on URDF/USD export for simulation, hand-guided affordance mapping and robot-scene interaction.

SparseOIT: Improving Order-Independent Transparency 3DGS via Active Set Method

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has received tremendous popularity over the past few years due to its photorealistic visual appearance. However, 3DGS uses volumetric rendering that is not suitable for objects with non-lambertian or transparent materials. To remedy this issue, a family of Order-Independent Transparency (OIT) rendering methods propose to remove or modify the depth sorting step in the 3DGS rendering equation. However, the potential of OIT-based method is still underexplored. In this paper, we observe that the OIT modifications to the rendering equation significantly reduce the inter-independence among individual gaussian splats, resulting in very sparse variable dependencies that can be harnessed by specific optimization techniques such as active set method. To this end, we propose SparseOIT, an OIT-based 3DGS reconstruction algorithm that maintains an active set of gaussian splats and enjoys an acceleration ratio that is proportional to the potential sparsity. SparseOIT is designed by jointly considering the OIT rendering equation, the reconstruction algorithm and the geometric regularization. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that SparseOIT outperforms existing methods in the OIT-family by a large margin and also achieves comparable performance to the state-of-the-art 3DGS reconstruction methods based on volumetric rendering. 3DTurboQuant: Training-Free Near-Optimal Quantization for 3D Reconstruction Models

Every existing method for compressing 3D Gaussian Splatting, NeRF, or transformer-based 3D reconstructors requires learning a data-dependent codebook through per-scene fine-tuning. We show this is unnecessary. The parameter vectors that dominate storage in these models, 45-dimensional spherical harmonics in 3DGS and 1024-dimensional key-value vectors in DUSt3R, fall in a dimension range where a single random rotation transforms any input into coordinates with a known Beta distribution. This makes precomputed, data-independent Lloyd-Max quantization near-optimal, within a factor of 2.7 of the information-theoretic lower bound. We develop 3D, deriving (1) a dimension-dependent criterion that predicts which parameters can be quantized and at what bit-width before running any experiment, (2) norm-separation bounds connecting quantization MSE to rendering PSNR per scene, (3) an entry-grouping strategy extending rotation-based quantization to 2-dimensional hash grid features, and (4) a composable pruning-quantization pipeline with a closed-form compression ratio. On NeRF Synthetic, 3DTurboQuant compresses 3DGS by 3.5x with 0.02dB PSNR loss and DUSt3R KV caches by 7.9x with 39.7dB pointmap fidelity. No training, no codebook learning, no calibration data. Compression takes seconds. The code will be released (https://github.com/JaeLee18/3DTurboQuant)

SmokeGS-R: Physics-Guided Pseudo-Clean 3DGS for Real-World Multi-View Smoke Restoration

Real-world smoke simultaneously attenuates scene radiance, adds airlight, and destabilizes multi-view appearance consistency, making robust 3D reconstruction particularly difficult. We present SmokeGS-R, a practical pipeline developed for the NTIRE 2026 3D Restoration and Reconstruction Track 2 challenge. The key idea is to decouple geometry recovery from appearance correction: we generate physics-guided pseudo-clean supervision with a refined dark channel prior and guided filtering, train a sharp clean-only 3D Gaussian Splatting source model, and then harmonize its renderings with a donor ensemble using geometric-mean reference aggregation, LAB-space Reinhard transfer, and light Gaussian smoothing. On the official challenge testing leaderboard, the final submission achieved \mbox{PSNR =15.217=15.217} and \mbox{SSIM =0.666=0.666}. After the public release of RealX3D, we re-evaluated the same frozen result on the seven released challenge scenes without retraining and obtained \mbox{PSNR =15.209=15.209}, \mbox{SSIM =0.644=0.644}, and \mbox{LPIPS =0.551=0.551}, outperforming the strongest official baseline average on the same scenes by +3.68+3.68 dB PSNR. These results suggest that a geometry-first reconstruction strategy combined with stable post-render appearance harmonization is an effective recipe for real-world multi-view smoke restoration.
