Semantic-Aware Predictive Mapping for Exploration and Navigation

Predictive mapping can support robotic exploration and navigation by estimating unseen geometric layouts from partial occupancy observations. However, occupancy-only representations may fail to distinguish semantically different structures with similar geometry. This is particularly relevant for indoor doors, which may appear as occupied cells like walls but indicate possible connected rooms or corridors beyond the observed region. This work investigates whether semantic door cues improve predictive geometric occupancy mapping around such ambiguous regions. We modify a subset of the CogniPlan dataset by inserting door-induced ambiguities into partial occupancy maps while keeping the ground-truth layouts unchanged. We compare a geometry-only control model with a semantic-cued model trained on the same modified dataset, where the semantic-cued model receives an additional door channel. Evaluation uses L1 error, F1 score, and Intersection over Union (IoU) over both the full map and a 10-pixel door-region mask. Full-map performance remains broadly similar between models, but localized door-region results show a clear qualitative improvement: L1 decreases from 0.004342 to 0.000025, while F1 and IoU improve from 0.031311 and 0.015905 to 1.000000 and 1.000000, respectively. These results suggest that semantic cues can improve predictive occupancy completion in regions where geometric observations alone are ambiguous.

GlassGuard: Verified Glass Plane Mapping for Robot Navigation

Transparent and specular surfaces pose a serious challenge to LiDAR-based SLAM and navigation because laser returns may pass through glass, leaving collision boundaries absent from the map. Prior work attempts to reconstruct the missing surfaces, but inaccurate obstacle placement can create the opposite failure: contamination of traversable free space. Recognizing this dual requirement, we present GlassGuard, a navigation-oriented framework for reconstructing planar architectural glass from complementary visual and LiDAR evidence. We formulate success in terms of both glass coverage and free-space contamination and apply this principle throughout proposal verification and global map construction. A foundation vision model provides glass-instance masks, structural 3D cues generate metric plane hypotheses, and depth-free 2D projective geometry checks their orientations before they enter a consolidated global map. We evaluate GlassGuard in nine building-scale scenes spanning diverse glass structures, spatial scales, and lighting conditions, with more than one hour and 2.1 km of real-world robot traversal. GlassGuard achieves 85% of total glass coverage for its panoramic version. Under identical pinhole inputs, GlassGuard achieves 82% total coverage, compared with at most 61% for the evaluated baselines, while producing 5-17x fewer false voxels per frame. Qualitative examples with a navigation planner illustrate the reconstructed planes blocking paths through glass while leaving traversable routes open. OREN-X: Octree Residual Network for Real-Time Multi-Modal Mapping

To achieve general-purpose autonomy over long horizons, a robot needs to maintain spatial environment information that supports a variety of tasks: geometry for planning and control, radiance for rendering and relocalization, and vision-language features for open-vocabulary grounding. Existing methods represent and estimate each modality separately, multiplying memory and compute cost while forgoing potential synergy among the representations. We develop OREN-X, an online mapping method that uses an octree in 3D space as a shared data structure for indexing and storing a multi-modal field, capturing geometric, radiance, and vision-language information. OREN-X provides efficient unified storage and retrieval of these data in explicit/implicit and full/compressed form. Our unified representation yields cross-modality synergy: SDF estimates are sharpened by occupancy and radiance, while GPU-based ray-octree traversal and octree query enable real-time rendering. We also use online dictionary learning to compress the vision-language features, shrinking them 3.7x below full per-vertex storage while raising the query accuracy. On Replica, OREN-X maps in real time (80+ fps for SDF and 30+ fps for all four modalities), improves near-surface SDF accuracy by 33% over single-modality baselines, and improves mean open-vocabulary 3D mIoU by 71% and mean accuracy by 61% over the best prior method.

PerSeM: Persistent Semantic Memory for Long-Horizon Open-Vocabulary UAV Mapping

Open-vocabulary segmentation enables rich semantic perception for UAVs, but frame-wise predictions can remain temporally inconsistent across repeated observations and changing viewpoints. We present PerSeM, a training-free persistent semantic memory framework for long-horizon open-vocabulary UAV mapping. PerSeM associates frame-wise semantic observations with persistent world-space voxels and constructs a majority-based semantic memory, which is conservatively refined through history-preserving spatial refinement, trust-aware replay, and context-guided verification. Experiments on the Forest and UAVScenes benchmarks show that persistent 3D memory provides substantial gains in semantic correctness and temporal stability over frame-wise predictions. Beyond this strong persistent-memory baseline, PerSeM provides consistent additional improvements, improving both semantic accuracy and temporal stability across all five evaluated UAVScenes sequences. Analysis using regions identified independently of the final PerSeM predictions further shows that these gains are concentrated in semantically difficult and temporally unstable regions, where majority-based memory is most likely to remain uncertain. These results demonstrate that persistent 3D aggregation provides a strong foundation for long-horizon semantic mapping, while conservative refinement of uncertain memory states can provide additional improvements without retraining or additional neural-network inference.

Exploring 2D backbone effects for indoor semantic occupancy prediction

Semantic occupancy prediction gives an embodied agent a voxel-level account of where space is free, occupied, and semantically meaningful. In RGB-D pipelines such as EmbodiedScan, the image encoder is often left as a default module, even though its features are the visual evidence later sampled into the 3D grid. We study this design choice directly. A central finding is that changing the 2D backbone improves occupancy accuracy more than several carefully designed occupancy architectures or modules. We keep the main RGB-D projection, depth branch, and occupancy head fixed, and replace only the image backbone. The compared encoders are CLIP-ResNet, CLIP-ViT, BLIP2, and DINOv2. Under the controlled setting, the measured mIoU changes substantially: DINOv2 obtains 30.55%, BLIP2 obtains 29.49%, CLIP-ViT obtains 24.33%, and CLIP-ResNet obtains 17.41%. The stronger encoders also exceed the original EmbodiedScan ResNet-50 baseline without modifying the downstream 3D fusion pipeline. Class-level results give a more detailed picture: DINOv2 is stronger on many layout and structural categories, whereas BLIP2 remains close on several object-centered classes. CLIP-ViT improves clearly over CLIP-ResNet, showing that the way CLIP features are exposed as dense tokens matters for voxel lifting. These results indicate that the image backbone is not a secondary engineering detail in embodied semantic occupancy, but a major source of variation in the final 3D prediction.

Spheriverse: 3D Scene Understanding from Spherical Observations in the Wild

Spherical observations provide global visual context for 3D scene understanding. However, visual information is encoded in an angular domain, whereas the physical world is represented in Cartesian coordinates. This cross-space representation gap complicates geometric correspondence and semantic evidence aggregation. To delve into this challenge, we introduce Spheriverse, comprising 64,400 temporally aligned spherical image-LiDAR pairs organized into 644 sequences. The dataset spans diverse scenes, illumination, and weather conditions, with fine-grained semantic classes. We further establish benchmarks for semantic occupancy prediction, semantic mapping, and 3D object detection, evaluating 30+ methods through overall and scene-wise comparisons. For dense prediction, we propose SphereOcc, an occupancy framework that couples spherical geometry modeling with semantic evidence retrieval. Cartesian-Spherical Representation Remodeling (CSRR) incorporates spherical range-azimuth geometry into Cartesian voxel features through region-wise modulation. Spherical Evidence Re-querying (SER) then conditions queries on voxel content and range-height-azimuth geometry to adaptively retrieve relevant semantic evidence from source spherical image features. SphereOcc achieves 13.91% mIoU and 24.65% GeoIoU, yielding relative improvements of 13.9% and 9.3% over the respective best-performing methods, TPVFormer and SurroundOcc. It also ranks first in both metrics across all five scene categories, with consistent advantages across the evaluated spatial partitions and reduced fields of view. The established benchmark and source code will be available at https://feit-feiteng.github.io/Spheriverse.

InfraOcc: An Infrastructure Occupancy Benchmark with Static-to-Dynamic Reasoning

Fixed-viewpoint infrastructure sensors repeatedly observe the same traffic space, making roadside 3D occupancy structurally different from ego-vehicle perception: a near-persistent static scaffold is overlaid with sparse, short-lived dynamic events. Existing occupancy benchmarks and methods, however, are built around moving ego vehicles and neither measure nor exploit this structure, instead treating occupancy as flat one-shot voxel classification. We address this gap from both data and model perspectives. We build InfraOcc, to our knowledge, the first real-world infrastructure-side semantic occupancy benchmark, with dense voxel annotations for 290 multi-modal sequences in a fixed roadside frame, a static-dynamic decoupled annotation pipeline, unified camera-only, LiDAR-only, and multi-modal evaluation, and diagnostics for static and dynamic occupancy. InfraOcc shows that static infrastructure fills 97.3% of occupied voxels and persists across frames, whereas dynamic participants have a median occupied-frame ratio of only 1.8% per location, revealing a structural static-dynamic asymmetry beyond semantic long-tailedness. We further propose ProSD-Occ, which reformulates occupancy as progressive static-to-dynamic evidence reasoning: it explains persistent layout, exposes residual dynamic evidence under static-confidence guidance, and recomposes static, dynamic, and free-space evidence into a unified field. ProSD-Occ ranks first in overall, dynamic, static, and geometric occupancy on every track, e.g., a 23.5% relative camera-only dynamic-mIoU gain over the strongest baseline and 65.87 multi-modal overall mIoU, establishing fixed-viewpoint roadside occupancy as a distinct problem with its own reasoning paradigm. The benchmark and code will be publicly available at https://github.com/yanglei18/InfraOcc

Shared Voxel-Map-Based Cooperative Indoor UAV Guidance with a Multi-Agent Soft Actor-Critic Controller

This paper presents a cooperative indoor UAV guidance framework that combines a shared voxel-map world model with a multi-agent Soft Actor-Critic (MASAC) controller. Multiple drones fuse 360 LiDAR observations into a common world-frame occupancy map, which is converted into a compact bird's-eye-view (BEV) representation and provided to each agent as an ego-aligned local crop. This integrate-in-world, act-in- ego design enables consistent multi-UAV spatial fusion whilst retaining decentralised continuous control. The policy combines BEV map features, near-field obstacle observations, and compact goal and peer-state information within a centralised-training, decentralised-execution framework. In simulation, the learned controller achieves a 90.3% success rate in corridor navigation, outperforming Astar planning, an artificial potential field controller, and a prior guidance method. To address residual sim-to-real mismatch, the simulation-trained policy is further adapted using offline imitation fine-tuning from real-world data. Real-world experiments in GNSS-denied indoor environments demonstrate stable two-UAV cooperative operation across increasingly chal- lenging obstacle layouts. The results show that shared voxel-map representations provide an effective and scalable spatial substrate for learned cooperative indoor UAV guidance.

Learning Adaptive Semantic Gaussian Allocation for 3D Occupancy

Semantic 3D Gaussians provide a compact representation for 3D semantic occupancy prediction by rendering semantic primitives into a voxel volume under voxel-wise supervision. Recent methods have improved the modeling ability and efficiency of this representation through more flexible primitive shapes, geometry-guided initialization, and progressive densification. However, these advances mainly determine how primitives are represented, initialized, or added, and do not explicitly address how to select the most useful Gaussians when their total number must be limited to control memory and computation. This imbalance creates an allocation bottleneck: redundant Gaussians remain in simple regions, while difficult regions receive insufficient semantic support. We propose the Semantic Gaussian Allocation Transformer (SAGFormer), which uses Gaussian attributes and local geometric-semantic features to score candidates and select a fixed final Gaussian set. Experiments on nuScenes-SurroundOcc and SSCBench-KITTI-360 show that SAGFormer improves occupancy prediction under the evaluated protocols and yields more semantically consistent and better-utilized Gaussian representations. Under similar final counts and raw coverage, it reduces semantic mixing, strengthens class-consistent voxel support, and produces fewer unused Gaussians. The results indicate that explicit capacity allocation is a useful complement to Gaussian refinement for semantic occupancy prediction.

RayOcc: Occlusion-Aware Ray Occupancy Estimation via Gaussian Mixture Intensity

Camera-only 3D semantic occupancy prediction aims to infer voxel-wise scene semantics from multi-view images, yet remains fundamentally challenging due to depth ambiguity and occlusion. Along a single camera ray, multiple spatially separated surfaces may coexist, making occupancy inherently a multi-label existence problem rather than a single-depth estimation task. However, most existing approaches favor a single dominant depth hypothesis per ray, limiting their ability to model volumetric scenes under complex occlusion. To address this limitation, we introduce RayOcc, an occlusion-aware ray occupancy framework that reformulates ray modeling as multi-label existence prediction. Instead of predicting a categorical depth distribution, RayOcc estimates a non-normalized Gaussian mixture intensity along each ray and converts it into interval-wise occupancy probabilities via a Poisson event formulation, allowing multiple occupied hypotheses to coexist without enforcing mutual competition across depth. The predicted mixture components are interpreted as occupancy hypotheses to initialize sparse 3D Gaussian primitives, which are refined and rasterized for semantic occupancy prediction. Experiments on the nuScenes benchmark show that RayOcc achieves state-of-the-art overall IoU and mIoU among the compared Gaussian-based occupancy methods.

4DR360: State Reasoning for Joint 3D Detection and Occupancy Prediction in 4D Radar-Camera Full-Scene Perception

Reliable autonomous driving requires full-scene perception that couples foreground objects with dense semantic layout. Recently, 4D millimeter-wave radar has emerged as a robust and affordable sensor, yet its sparse returns make radar-camera fusion necessary for comprehensive scene understanding. Existing radar-camera methods mainly optimize detection, while dual-task systems usually decode boxes and occupancy with limited interaction. To address this gap and advance radar-based multi-task learning, we propose \method, a 4D radar-camera framework for 360∘^\circ full-scene perception, which models semantic occupancy as a persistent scene state rather than a terminal output. \method{} follows a cross-modal state reasoning paradigm, where the occupancy state is modeled and propagated through stages for coarse-to-fine feature aggregation. Specifically, State-guided BEV Enhancement (SBE) strengthens intra-frame BEV representation, while Doppler-guided Temporal Fusion (DTF) preserves state evidence over longer temporal horizons. Beyond the model, we further extend ManTruckScenes with satellite-map-based generated occupancy labels and pair it with OmniHD-Scenes in a unified cross-dataset detection-and-occupancy protocol. The resulting experiments cover accuracy, robustness, ablation, and efficiency under one radar-camera multi-task evaluation framework. Code and labels will be released upon acceptance.

GEM-Occ: From Visual Geometry Evidence to Embodied Semantic Occupancy Memory

Embodied agents exploring indoor environments require reliable semantic occupancy memory that persists across observations and revisits. Building such memory is challenging because each observation provides incomplete and uncertain geometric and semantic evidence. We introduce GEM-Occ, a Gaussian Evidence Memory framework that consolidates evidence accumulated over time into persistent semantic occupancy memory. Local predictions are converted into occupied semantic Gaussians and free-space ray evidence. Confidence- and visibility-aware causal updates integrate supporting observations, suppress occupancy contradicted by observed free space, and preserve previously observed structures through occlusion. A hierarchical memory organization supports continued mapping and efficient queries across connected indoor spaces. To evaluate this capability, we introduce HIOcc, a unified benchmark for embodied semantic occupancy memory. HIOcc establishes a shared semantic label space and evaluation framework spanning local prediction, room-level online mapping, and building-level mapping, while accommodating perspective and panoramic observations. Experiments on HIOcc demonstrate that GEM-Occ outperforms existing methods, enabling accurate semantic occupancy prediction and consistent online mapping across spatial scales with efficient memory usage and fast occupancy queries.

SparseOcc++: Geometry-Aware Sparse Latent Representation for Semantic Occupancy Prediction

Vision-based 3D semantic occupancy prediction is essential for autonomous driving, yet dense voxel representations waste computation on largely empty space, while BEV and TPV projections compromise fine-grained 3D structure. Fully sparse representations offer an attractive alternative, but existing methods, including SparseOcc, entangle scene completion with semantic prediction by indiscriminately propagating high-dimensional features into empty regions and applying voxel-wise classification. This creates excessive activations, computational overhead, and geometric ambiguity. We present SparseOcc++, a geometry-aware sparse framework that explicitly decouples scene completion from semantic segmentation. SparseOcc++ reformulates completion as signed-distance regression on sparse anchor voxels through a scene completion field (SCF). To model complex outdoor geometry robustly, it combines orthogonal decomposition with discretized distance learning. A geometry-guided propagation module then converts the SCF into a complete volumetric scene and restricts semantic segmentation to geometrically verified regions. Experiments establish new state of the art: SparseOcc++ improves IoU by 2.3 points and is 3.9x faster than SparseOcc on nuScenes, while achieving a 5.9x speedup over OccFormer on SemanticKITTI.

Bridging 3D Gaussians and Semantic Occupancy for Comprehensive Open-Vocabulary Scene Understanding from Unposed Images

Comprehensive 3D scene understanding from sparse, unposed images requires a model to recover renderable geometry, open-vocabulary semantics, and free/occupied 3D space without relying on external camera calibration. Recent feed-forward Gaussian methods improve pose-free reconstruction and semantic rendering, but their Gaussian primitives are mainly optimized through image-space objectives and remain weakly constrained in unobserved regions. We propose \textit{COVScene}, a pose-free semantic Gaussian framework that couples renderable Gaussian primitives with a dense semantic occupancy field through differentiable volumetric lifting. Instead of converting Gaussians to voxels only at evaluation time, COVScene lifts the predicted semantic Gaussians inside the training computation graph, so volumetric regularization provides gradients to Gaussian opacity, geometry, and semantic features. The framework combines a semantic-aware Geometry Transformer, multi-task Gaussian decoding, geometric foundation distillation, and occupancy entropy regularization to support novel view synthesis, open-vocabulary semantic querying, and semantic occupancy prediction within a single representation. Experiments on ScanNet and ScanNet++ show that COVScene maintains competitive rendering quality, improves open-vocabulary segmentation, and achieves stronger semantic occupancy prediction than the self-supervised baseline without direct voxel-level supervision.

Semantic Occupancy Prediction with Dual Range-Voxel Representation

LiDAR-based 3D semantic occupancy prediction, which aims to provide accurate and comprehensive scene representation, is crucial for autonomous driving systems. As point clouds suffer from sparsity and incompleteness, leading to insufficient semantic learning and difficult occupancy perception, existing methods often stack multi-sweep point clouds to obtain dense spatial information. However, such a naive strategy also results in efficiency (e.g., additional computational burden) and robustness (e.g., pose transformation noise) concerns, which hinder their practical applications. In this work, we propose a Dual Range-Voxel Representation (DRVR) that leverages the range-view context and voxel-view geometry of single-sweep point clouds for 3D semantic occupancy prediction, eliminating the concerns associated with the multi-sweeps. Specifically, we use the range-view encoder to extract the compact context of the scene. To fully exploit the spatial information, we design a geometry-aware voxel-view encoder that extracts multi-scale voxel-view features separately and combines them for better geometric occupancy prediction. Moreover, we propose a range-voxel fusion module to cooperate range- and voxel-view features via voxel-to-range and range-to-voxel fusions. Extensive experiments on nuScenes-Occupancy, SemanticKITTI and SemanticPOSS show the superiority of our method. Especially on nuScenes-Occupancy, our single-sweep DRVR achieves 5.4% improvement in mIoU and 2.1x acceleration compared to the multi-sweep method.

KRVF: A Source-Aware Semantic Voxel World Representation for Edge Mobile Manipulation

Mobile manipulators need world models that are current, queryable, semantically meaningful, and usable under edge-compute constraints. This technical report presents KRVF, a source-aware semantic voxel world representation for edge mobile manipulation. Unlike reconstruction-centric mapping pipelines that primarily optimize global geometric fidelity, KRVF represents local world state as task-oriented voxels that encode occupancy, color, semantic evidence, temporal freshness, and evidence source. The representation separates measured occupancy from semantic-prior hypotheses, enabling depth-failure-aware object reasoning without silently corrupting persistent geometry. KRVF also closes a feedback loop between mapping and sensing by rendering map-prior depth for repair, and exposes task-level query operators for semantic objects and grasp candidates. The report formalizes the KRVF representation and documents a ROS 2 implementation that turns online RGB-D observations into a task-facing robot memory.

VISA: VLM-Guided Instance Semantic Auditing for 3D Occupancy World Models

Semantic 3D occupancy provides a voxelized world state for autonomous driving and robot decision making, but object and rare-class errors can affect free-space interpretation, collision checking, and temporal state propagation. We show that a common VLM strategy, aligning 3D voxel or object features with crop-caption embeddings, improves text-space similarity without reliably improving closed-set occupancy mIoU. Motivated by this mismatch, we propose VISA, a training-time semantic auditing approach for existing occupancy world models. VISA queries an offline VLM on a representative crop of each physical object instance, obtains a structured audit with class hypotheses, plausible confusions, reliability, attributes, and evidence, and propagates it along the object track. The audit is grounded to matched 3D object voxels and distilled into semantic logits through reliability-weighted taxonomy, attribute-factor, and scene-level audit graph losses, while inference remains unchanged and requires no VLM. On nuScenes, averaged across three runs, VISA improves OccWorld from 19.06 to 20.05 mIoU and GaussianWorld from 21.36 to 21.91 mIoU; on GaussianWorld, object mIoU improves from 18.18 to 19.16 and rare-class mIoU from 15.60 to 16.79. These results suggest that VLMs are better suited to closed-set occupancy as reliability-aware semantic auditors than as generic caption-embedding targets.

Occupancy-Grounded Room Segmentation for Hierarchical 3D Scene Graphs

Hierarchical 3D scene graphs (3DSGs) for indoor robots organize geometric and semantic information across spatial scales, with a room layer that connects object-level perception to room-scale reasoning. Existing systems construct this layer from different spatial substrates (\eg{} place clusters, wall planes, or segmentation outputs), and as a result, room nodes are not evaluated on a common geometric criterion. We present an occupancy-grounded 3DSG pipeline in which room nodes are anchored to tracked free-space regions derived from occupancy decomposition, giving each room an explicit polygonal footprint. We evaluate the pipeline on 12 Matterport3D scenes by matching predicted room polygons to annotated room instances and compare against Hydra, a representative state-of-the-art place-connectivity baseline. The results show that occupancy-grounded anchoring recovers substantially more room instances than place-connectivity construction, at the cost of lower precision, and that wall-accurate room boundaries remain an open problem for both methods. EditSSC: Toward Editable Semantic Occupancy Scenes with Unconditional Diffusion Models

3D semantic scene generation is crucial for autonomous driving applications, yet most methods rely on complex 3D-specific architectures such as triplane encoders and adapted diffusion networks, limiting both their simplicity and their editing capabilities. We propose EditSSC, an editing-ready method for 3D semantic scene generation using 2D Bird's Eye View (BEV) representations and off-the-shelf latent diffusion network. Our approach reshapes 3D semantic occupancy grids into multi-channel BEV images and leverages the quantized autoencoder and UNet from Stable Diffusion with minimal modifications. We perform diffusion on the latents after quantization, which enables training-free editing capabilities. By exploiting class-to-code correspondences in the codebook, our method supports sketch-guided generation, inpainting, and outpainting without any retraining. On SemanticKITTI, EditSSC outperforms existing 3D-specific baselines on unconditional generation, demonstrating that well-established 2D architectures can be effectively repurposed for 3D scene generation and editing.

ActMVS: Active Scene Reconstruction with Monocular Multi-View Stereo

Active scene reconstruction enables robots/UAVs to autonomously plan trajectories and reconstruct environments without costly manual data acquisition. Unlike passive methods, active reconstruction requires real-time construction of high-confidence occupancy maps for collision-free navigation. Existing approaches rely on depth sensors for occupancy map updates, increasing platform cost and weight. To advance spatial intelligence, we aim for a vision-only monocular solution. However, current monocular scene reconstruction methods operate offline and fail to deliver globally consistent dense depth at the frame rates required for robots/UAVs navigation. To bridge this gap, we introduce ActMVS, the first framework for monocular active reconstruction. Our framework integrates a view factor graph construction for informed Multi-View Stereo depth prediction, along with a global depth optimization, to enable the online generation of high-quality, globally consistent dense depth maps. This enables monocular robots/UAVs to maintain reliable occupancy maps for safe trajectory planning during reconstruction. Experiments on Replica datasets demonstrate performance competitive with RGB-D methods. Our code and data are available at https://github.com/TrickyGo/ActMVS.

VEOcc: Voxel-Centric Online Semantic Occupancy Prediction For Embodied Scene Understanding

Crucial for autonomous exploration, online 3D occupancy prediction and mapping incrementally constructs dense spatial representations on the fly. However, recent Gaussian-centric methods struggle with structural boundary fidelity and rely heavily on predefined scene-size priors, fundamentally limiting their operational efficiency. In this work, we present VEOcc, a voxel-centric framework formulated as a recursive perception-and-assimilation paradigm. By eliminating the need for initial scale estimation, VEOcc enables highly streamlined, open-ended map expansion. Furthermore, to robustly aggregate noisy temporal observations within the discrete voxel space, we propose a Spatio-Temporal-Aware Online Update Strategy. It integrates Cross-Temporal Logit Aggregation (TLA) for temporal consistency, Reliability-Aware Confidence Modulation (RCM) for spatial uncertainty calibration, and Confidence-Driven Incremental State Update (CSU) for robust global state assimilation. % Extensive experiments on Occ-ScanNet and EmbodiedOcc-ScanNet demonstrate that VEOcc establishes new state-of-the-art performance in both local and embodied settings, providing an accurate and efficient solution for real-world exploration. Extensive experiments on Occ-ScanNet and EmbodiedOcc-ScanNet demonstrate that VEOcc establishes new state-of-the-art performance in both local and embodied settings. Notably, zero-shot evaluations on self-collected video sequences further confirm its robust out-of-distribution generalization capability in completely unseen real-world environments. Ultimately, our framework provides an accurate and highly efficient solution for autonomous exploration. GEM: Gaussian Evolution Model for Occupancy Forecasting and Motion Planning

Future 3D semantic occupancy forecasting and motion planning are central to autonomous driving, as they require models to reason about how surrounding scenes evolve and how the ego vehicle should act. Existing occupancy world models commonly discretize scenes into latent embeddings, volumetric features, or quantized tokens, and forecast future states through fixed-step autoregressive generation. This limits temporal flexibility, obscures scene evolution, accumulates errors over long horizons, and poorly matches the continuous-time dynamics of real driving scenes. We propose GEM, a Gaussian Evolution Model for non-autoregressive occupancy world modeling, where driving scenes are represented as explicit continuous 4D Gaussian primitives with learned dynamics. Instead of rolling out future occupancy states step by step, GEM directly queries the Gaussian world representation at arbitrary timestamps and splats the corresponding conditional 3D Gaussians into semantic occupancy volumes. This enables efficient forecasting over the full horizon while retaining a compact and interpretable scene representation. By decoupling spatial geometry, temporal support, and primitive motion, GEM makes the predicted world easier to inspect, as each primitive's evolution can be followed continuously over time. The same representation also supports motion planning by predicting future ego trajectories from the learned Gaussian world. Extensive experiments show that GEM achieves state-of-the-art future semantic occupancy forecasting and strong motion planning performance, while providing flexible temporal querying.

SOCC-ICP: Semantics-Assisted Odometry based on Occupancy Grids and ICP

Reliable pose estimation in previously unseen environments is a fundamental capability of autonomous systems. Existing LiDAR odometry methods typically employ point-, surfel-, or NDT-based map representations, which are distinct from the semantic occupancy grids commonly used for downstream tasks such as motion planning. We introduce SOCC-ICP, a semantics-assisted odometry framework that jointly performs Semantic OCCupancy grid mapping and LiDAR scan alignment. Each map voxel encodes geometric and semantic statistics, enabling adaptive point-to-point or point-to-plane ICP based on local planarity. Further, the occupancy grid naturally filters dynamic objects through raycasting-based free-space updates. Across diverse evaluation scenarios, SOCC-ICP achieves performance competitive with state-of-the-art LiDAR odometry and remains robust in geometrically degenerate environments, even in the absence of semantic cues. When semantic labels are available, integrating them into map construction, downsampling, and correspondence weighting yields further accuracy gains. By unifying odometry and semantic occupancy grid mapping within a single representation, SOCC-ICP eliminates redundant map structures and directly provides a map suitable for downstream robotic applications.

FreeOcc: Training-Free Embodied Open-Vocabulary Occupancy Prediction

Existing learning-based occupancy prediction methods rely on large-scale 3D annotations and generalize poorly across environments. We present FreeOcc, a training-free framework for open-vocabulary occupancy prediction from monocular or RGB-D sequences. Unlike prior approaches that require voxel-level supervision and ground-truth camera poses, FreeOcc operates without 3D annotations, pose ground truth, or any learning stage. FreeOcc incrementally builds a globally consistent occupancy map via a four-layer pipeline: a SLAM backbone estimates poses and sparse geometry; a geometrically consistent Gaussian update constructs dense 3D Gaussian maps; open-vocabulary semantics from off-the-shelf vision-language models are associated with Gaussian primitives; and a probabilistic Gaussian-to-occupancy projection produces dense voxel occupancy. Despite being entirely training-free and pose-agnostic, FreeOcc achieves over 2×2\times improvements in IoU and mIoU on EmbodiedOcc-ScanNet compared to prior self-supervised methods. We further introduce ReplicaOcc, a benchmark for indoor open-vocabulary occupancy prediction, and show that FreeOcc transfers zero-shot to novel environments, substantially outperforming both supervised and self-supervised baselines. World2Minecraft: Occupancy-Driven Simulated Scenes Construction

Embodied intelligence requires high-fidelity simulation environments to support perception and decision-making, yet existing platforms often suffer from data contamination and limited flexibility. To mitigate this, we propose World2Minecraft to convert real-world scenes into structured Minecraft environments based on 3D semantic occupancy prediction. In the reconstructed scenes, we can effortlessly perform downstream tasks such as Vision-Language Navigation(VLN). However, we observe that reconstruction quality heavily depends on accurate occupancy prediction, which remains limited by data scarcity and poor generalization in existing models. We introduce a low-cost, automated, and scalable data acquisition pipeline for creating customized occupancy datasets, and demonstrate its effectiveness through MinecraftOcc, a large-scale dataset featuring 100,165 images from 156 richly detailed indoor scenes. Extensive experiments show that our dataset provides a critical complement to existing datasets and poses a significant challenge to current SOTA methods. These findings contribute to improving occupancy prediction and highlight the value of World2Minecraft in providing a customizable and editable platform for personalized embodied AI research. OccTrack360: 4D Panoptic Occupancy Tracking from Surround-View Fisheye Cameras

Understanding dynamic 3D environments in a spatially continuous and temporally consistent manner is fundamental for robotics and autonomous driving. While recent advances in occupancy prediction provide a unified representation of scene geometry and semantics, progress in 4D panoptic occupancy tracking remains limited by the lack of benchmarks that support surround-view fisheye sensing, long temporal sequences, and instance-level voxel tracking. To address this gap, we present OccTrack360, a new benchmark for 4D panoptic occupancy tracking from surround-view fisheye cameras. OccTrack360 provides substantially longer and more diverse sequences (174~2234 frames) than prior benchmarks, together with principled voxel visibility annotations, including an all-direction occlusion mask and an MEI-based fisheye field-of-view mask. To establish a strong fisheye-oriented baseline, we further propose Focus on Sphere Occ (FoSOcc), a framework that addresses two core challenges in fisheye occupancy tracking: distorted spherical projection and inaccurate voxel-space localization. FoSOcc includes a Center Focusing Module (CFM) to enhance instance-aware spatial localization through supervised focus guidance, and a Fisheye-based Enhanced Lifting (FEL) that extends perspective lifting to fisheye imaging under the Unified Projection Model. Extensive experiments on Occ3D-Waymo and OccTrack360 show that our method improves occupancy tracking quality with notable gains on geometrically regular categories, and establishes a strong baseline for future research on surround-view fisheye 4D occupancy tracking. The benchmark and source code will be made publicly available at https://github.com/YouthZest-Lin/OccTrack360.

MobileOcc: A Human-Aware Semantic Occupancy Dataset for Mobile Robots

Dense 3D semantic occupancy perception is critical for mobile robots operating in pedestrian-rich environments, yet it remains underexplored compared to its application in autonomous driving. To address this gap, we present MobileOcc, a semantic occupancy dataset for mobile robots operating in crowded human environments. Our dataset is built using an annotation pipeline that incorporates static object occupancy annotations and a novel mesh optimization framework explicitly designed for human occupancy modeling. It reconstructs deformable human geometry from 2D images, then refines and optimizes it using associated LiDAR point data. Using MobileOcc, we establish benchmarks for two tasks: i) Occupancy prediction and ii) Pedestrian velocity prediction, using different methods, including monocular, stereo, and panoptic occupancy, with metrics and baseline implementations for reproducible comparison. Beyond occupancy prediction, we further assess our annotation method on 3D human pose estimation datasets. Results demonstrate that our method exhibits robust performance across different datasets.
