An Information-theoretic Propagation Denoising and Fusion Framework for Fake News Detection

Incomplete propagation data significantly hinders robust fake news detection. Recent approaches leverage large language models to simulate missing user interactions via role-playing, thereby enriching propagation with synthetic signals. However, such propagation data is intrinsically unreliable, and directly fusing it can lead to biased representations, leading to limited detection performance. In this paper, we alleviate the unreliability of synthetic propagation from the mutual information perspective and propose a novel information-theoretic propagation denoising and fusion (InfoPDF) framework to learn effective representations from both real and synthetic propagation. Specifically, we first generate attribute-specific synthetic propagation using large language models. Then we model each synthetic propagation graph as a probabilistic latent distribution to guide reliability-aware adaptive fusion with real propagation. During training, we design a mutual information-based objective to learn compressed and task-sufficient propagation representations. It jointly suppresses noisy signals across attribute-specific synthetic propagation, maintains consistency between real and synthetic propagation representations, and ensures task sufficiency for fake news detection and attribute prediction. Experiments on three real-world datasets show that InfoPDF consistently achieves superior performance across various fake news detection tasks. Further analysis demonstrates that InfoPDF can estimate attribute-level reliabilities and learn more discriminative propagation representations.

Temporal-Decay Shapley: A Time-Aware Data Valuation Framework for Time-Series Data

With the rapid development of machine learning applications on time-series data, accurately assessing the value of training samples has become essential for data selection, noise detection, and model optimization. However, traditional data valuation methods usually assume that samples are independent and identically distributed, and thus ignore the time-varying nature of sample value in time-series data. This paper proposes an improved temporal Shapley data valuation method that enables accurate sample valuation for time-series data through a temporal decay mechanism and a multi-scale fusion strategy. Specifically, we propose three progressively enhanced temporal Shapley methods. Temporal-Decay Shapley (TDS) incorporates temporal information into Shapley value computation through exponential decay weights; the improved TDS adopts power exponential decay to better adapt to nonlinear temporal drift; and Multi-Scale Temporal-Decay Shapley (MS-TDS) constructs a multi-scale fusion mechanism that balances the value of short-term hotspot samples and long-term foundational samples through parallel multi-scale valuation and sample-level adaptive fusion. Experimental results show that the proposed methods generally outperform traditional methods in noise detection and high-value data identification tasks, with more evident advantages under most strongly temporal settings, thereby effectively improving the accuracy and robustness of data valuation.

RAFNet: Region-Aware Fusion Network for Pansharpening

Pansharpening aims to generate high-resolution multispectral (HRMS) images by fusing low-resolution multispectral (LRMS) and high-resolution panchromatic (PAN) images. Although deep learning has advanced this field, mainstream frequency-based methods relying on standard scaled dot-product attention suffer from quadratic computational complexity and fail to exploit the inherent regional sparsity of remote sensing imagery. Furthermore, existing spatial enhancement strategies typically employ static convolution kernels, which struggle to adapt to the complex frequency and regional variations of PAN and MS images. To address these bottlenecks, we propose a Region-Aware Fusion (RAFNet) Network that synergistically models spatial and frequency information. Specifically, we design a Spatial Adaptive Refinement (SAR) module that leverages the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) for directional frequency separation and K-means clustering for regional partitioning, which enables the dynamic construction of region-specific adaptive convolution kernels, achieving spatially and frequency-adaptive feature enhancement. Moreover, we introduce a Clustered Frequency Aggregation (CFA) module based on a sparse attention mechanism guided by the semantic clusters, which executes a region-aware sparse attention strategy that drastically reduces computational redundancy while ensuring high-quality frequency feature extraction. In addition we integrated these modules into a progressive, multi-level spatial-frequency network architecture to facilitate robust interaction and accurate image reconstruction. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmark datasets demonstrate that the proposed RAFNet significantly outperforms state-of-the-art pansharpening methods in both reduced- and full-resolution assessments. The code is available at https://github.com/PatrickNod/RAFNet.

FLoRA: Fusion-Latent for Optical Reconstruction and Flood Area Segmentation via Cross-Modal Multi-Task Distillation Network

Accurate flood water mapping is critical for disaster management, yet current methods struggle to fully exploit the potential of spaceborne imagery. Optical data offers high interpretability but is limited by environmental conditions, whereas SAR provides reliable all-weather coverage with reduced visual interpretability. FLoRA (Fusion Latent for Optical Reconstruction and Area Segmentation) is a cross-modal multi-task framework that jointly reconstructs high-fidelity optical imagery and segments flood water regions from Sentinel 1 SAR by fusing the complementary strengths of optical and SAR data. During training, a lightweight optical teacher (driven by RGB and NDVI priors) provides pyramidal features that guide SAR representations into a fusion latent space via multiscale windowed cross attention and FiLM conditioning, with gated residuals preventing overcorrection. This design enables multi-task learning across two complementary objectives: (a) SAR-to-optical translation for fine-grained RGB reconstruction and (b) flood water region segmentation for hydrologic interpretation. The dual decoders are optimized using Charbonnier SSIM for structural fidelity, edge FFT magnitude losses for spectral realism, and Dice BCE hydrology-aware edge alignment for precise flood water delineation. A feature distillation constraint further aligns fused SAR features with the optical teacher's manifold. Evaluations on SEN1FLOODS11, DEEPFLOOD, and SEN12MS demonstrate that FLoRA surpasses fusion baselines in PSNR, SSIM, and LPIPS, demonstrating that multi-modal fusion within a teacher-guided latent space yields semantically faithful and physically consistent flood-water intelligence from spaceborne observations.

EAPFusion: Intrinsic Evolving Auxiliary Prior Guidance for Infrared and Visible Image Fusion

Infrared-visible image fusion aims to create an information-rich fused image by integrating the complementary thermal saliency from infrared sensing and fine textures from visible imaging. Such accurate fusion is essential for real-world perception applications in complex scenes, including nighttime autonomous driving, search and rescue, and surveillance, and can further benefit downstream tasks such as semantic segmentation. However, most existing fusion methods rely upon static trained weights that cannot adapt to scene-specific content at inference time, and often suffer from a granularity mismatch when coarse auxiliary semantics are injected, which makes it difficult to simultaneously highlight targets and preserve details. In this work, we propose EAPFusion to address these issues by using self-evolving intrinsic priors instead of relying on external auxiliary models. Concretely, EAPFusion maintains a compact set of intrinsic priors and progressively updates them across scales. These evolved priors are utilized to dynamically generate convolutional kernels, shifting the paradigm from fixed, pre-trained filters to instance-adaptive parameters via prior-conditioned dynamic convolution. Furthermore, we design a channel-level fusion module that shuffles and interleaves infrared and visible channels, applying local channel mixing to boost cross-modal complementarity. Experiments on different datasets, including cross-dataset evaluation and semantic segmentation, show that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art quantitative and qualitative fusion results, and consistently boosts downstream performance. Code is coming soon.

Delayed Commitment for Representation Readiness in Stage-wise Audio-Visual Learning

Stage-wise audio-visual encoders propagate fused intermediate states across layers, making the formation of later representations depend on the readiness of earlier fusion states. Strong local audio-visual agreement provides useful correspondence evidence, yet a fused state also needs sufficient cross-layer and cross-modal support before it can reliably guide later fusion. This paper studies this issue through propagation-aware representation readiness and formulates premature perceptual commitment as a readiness-deficiency problem, where local plausibility, propagation influence, and support insufficiency jointly appear at an intermediate stage. We propose the Delayed Perceptual Commitment Network (DPC-Net), an encoder-level framework that estimates an observable readiness-deficiency surrogate, localizes the intervention-sensitive bottleneck, and applies support-aware correction with cross-layer and cross-modal evidence. DPC-Net preserves task-specific heads, losses, decoding modules, and evaluation protocols, making it applicable to different audio-visual tasks through encoder-side intervention. Experiments on audio-visual speech separation, audio-visual event localization, and audio-visual speech recognition show consistent improvements across reconstruction, localization, and recognition regimes. Further analyses on component contribution, selection criteria, counterfactual intervention, and readiness trajectories support the effectiveness of readiness-guided bottleneck correction.

Research on Vision-Language Question Answering Models for Industrial Robots

A hierarchical cross-modal fusion model is proposed for vision-language question answering (VLQA) in industrial robotics, targeting the challenges of semantic ambiguity, complex environmental layouts, and domain-specific terminology common in modern manufacturing. The framework integrates advanced object detection, multi-scale visual encoding, syntactic parsing, and task-aware semantic attention to unite vision and language signals into a joint reasoning space. Region-based deep networks extract visual features, weighted embeddings aggregate, and recurrent neural parsing encodes sentence structures. Through fine-grained semantic alignment driven by adaptive fusion and cross-attention mechanisms, the system can handle operational queries, instruction steps, and anomaly detection with higher reliability. Compared to the existing VLQA benchmarks, validation experiments conducted on the IVQA and RIF benchmarks indicate improvements in semantic alignment, Top-1 accuracy, and robustness to ambiguous or procedural task queries. Ablation studies further quantify the impact of each architectural module, confirming the necessity of multi-level feature integration and context-driven gating for dependable industrial deployment. The technical advancements reported here provide core methodologies to improve the interpretability and operational effectiveness of industrial robots faced with diverse human-robot interaction tasks.

A Multi-View Media Profiling Suite: Resources, Evaluation, and Analysis

News outlets shape public opinion at a scale that makes automated detection of political bias and factuality essential. However, the field still lacks unified resources, comprehensive evaluations across diverse approaches, and systematic analyses of the representations and fusion strategies that matter most, especially under label sparsity and dataset diversity. In addition, there is little empirical work reporting broad, observation-driven findings about what consistently works, what fails, and why. We address these gaps through four main contributions. First, we introduce MBFC-2025, a large-scale label set covering approximately 2,600 outlets from Media Bias/Fact Check (MBFC). Second, we construct multiview representations for ACL-2020 (Panayotov et al., 2022), which includes around 900 outlets, as well as for MBFC-2025. These representations span Alexa graphs, hyperlink graphs, LLM-derived graphs, articles, and Wikipedia descriptions. Third, we provide a systematic evaluation and analysis of embedding views and fusion strategies, including a reinforcement learning-based fusion variant. Fourth, we conduct extensive experiments that achieve state-of-the-art results on ACL-2020 and establish strong benchmarks on MBFC-2025.

Degradation-Aware Adaptive Context Gating for Unified Image Restoration

Unified image restoration using a single model often faces task interference due to diverse degradations. To address this, we propose DACG-IR (Degradation-Aware Adaptive Context Gating), which enables explicit perception of degradation characteristics to dynamically modulate feature representations. Our method constructs degradation-aware contextual representations from the input to modulate attention distribution, frequency-domain features, and feature aggregation. Specifically, a lightweight multi-scale degradation-aware module extracts coarse degradation information and generates layer-wise prompts. These prompts guide attention temperature and output gating in encoder and decoder blocks for adaptive feature extraction. Additionally, a spatial-channel dual-gated adaptive fusion mechanism refines encoder features, suppressing noise propagation from shallow to deep layers. This design effectively suppresses degradation-induced noise while preserving informative structures. Experiments show DACG-IR outperforms state-of-the-art methods in single-task, all-in-one, adverse weather removal, and composite degradation settings. Code: https://github.com/HlHomes/DACG-IR-code

Label-Conditioned Cross-Modal Fusion for Adult-to-Pediatric ECG Transfer via Curriculum-Gated Contrastive Alignment

Automated pediatric electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation remains challenging because developmental differences in heart rate, intervals, and waveforms limit the transferability of models trained mainly on adult data, while expert-labeled pediatric ECG cohorts are scarce. We propose PEACE (Pediatric-Adult ECG Alignment via Cross-modal Enhancement), an adult-to-pediatric ECG transfer framework pretrained on MIMIC-IV ECGs and adapted to pediatric targets. PEACE integrates label-specific bidirectional contrastive learning (LSBC) to align ECG representations with diagnostic semantics and curriculum adaptive fusion (CAF) to stabilize optimization under limited pediatric supervision. Label-conditioned short text descriptors provide auxiliary semantic supervision during training, whereas inference requires ECG signals only. On ZZU-pECG, PEACE achieves macro-average AUCs of 59.39%, 81.74%, and 91.56% under zero-shot, 50-shot, and full fine-tuning settings, respectively, outperforming ECG-only, multimodal, and generic domain adaptation baselines including DANN and MMD. On PTB-XL, it reaches 96.90% macro-average AUC after full fine-tuning over nine harmonized labels with nonzero mapped incidence. Gradient-based attention maps show increased saliency around QRS voltage and morphology regions for chamber-related RVH and around QRS-to-T/repolarization intervals for LQTS, broadly consistent with ECG regions commonly inspected during routine interpretation. These results suggest that adult-scale ECG pretraining coupled with rhythm, morphology, and ST-T repolarization semantic descriptors improves transferable pediatric diagnosis under label scarcity while preserving clinically interpretable waveform focus.

Combined Dictionary Unfolding Network with Gradient-Adaptive Fidelity for Transferable Multi-Source Fusion

Deep Unfolding Network-based methods have emerged as effective solutions for multi-source image fusion by combining model-driven iterative optimization with data-driven deep learning. However, most existing deep unfolding image fusion methods are derived from alternating minimization, which updates the features of different modalities separately. This design introduces considerable computational and memory overhead, limiting deployment on resource-constrained edge devices. To address this issue, we propose CDNet, a lightweight Combined Dictionary Unfolding Network for multi-source image fusion. Rather than introducing a new sparse coding prior or empirically compressing an existing fusion network, CDNet translates the unique-common decomposition prior of coupled dictionary learning into a structurally constrained joint unfolding architecture. The resulting CDBlock follows a block-sparse interaction topology and performs a model-derived joint update of common and modality-specific representations, thereby streamlining feature learning and improving efficiency. In addition, we design a compact High- and Low-frequency Image Fidelity loss for unsupervised training without ground-truth images. We evaluate CDNet on four tasks, including multi-exposure image fusion, infrared and visible image fusion, medical image fusion, and infrared and visible image fusion for semantic segmentation. Experimental results show that CDNet achieves competitive or superior fusion performance with high efficiency. For infrared and visible image fusion, CDNet outperforms competing methods on four of six metrics on the TNO dataset and five of six metrics on the RoadScene dataset. In particular, it surpasses the second-best method by 1.23 dB and 1.59 dB in PSNR on TNO and RoadScene, respectively.

Auto-FlexSwitch: Efficient Dynamic Model Merging via Learnable Task Vector Compression

Model merging has attracted attention as an effective path toward multi-task adaptation by integrating knowledge from multiple task-specific models. Among existing approaches, dynamic merging mitigates performance degradation caused by conflicting parameter updates across tasks by flexibly combining task-specific parameters at inference time, thereby maintaining high performance. However, these methods require storing independent parameters for each task, resulting in prohibitive storage overhead. To address this issue, we first experimentally demonstrate that the fine-tuned weight increments (referred to as task vectors) exhibit an impulse-like activation pattern and high robustness to low-bit representations. Driven by this insight, we propose T-Switch, which decomposes task vectors into three compact components: a binary sparse mask, a sign vector, and a scalar scaling factor, achieving high-fidelity approximation at high compression ratios. We then introduce Auto-Switch, a training-free merging scheme that automatically composes task vectors via feature similarity retrieval. Building on this, we develop Auto-Switch, a training-free merging scheme that automatically assembles task vectors through feature similarity retrieval. Furthermore, to transform task vector sparsification and quantization from static rules to adaptive learning, we propose FlexSwitch, a learnable framework which jointly optimizes the compression strategy for each model unit via Learnable Gating Sparsification (LGS) and Bit-width Adaptive Selection (BAS), while employing the Sparsity-Aware Storage Strategy (SASS) to select the optimal storage encoding structure. Finally, by incorporating a K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) inference scheme with a learnable low-rank metric, we present Auto-FlexSwitch, a dynamic model merging approach that supports highly efficient task vector compression.

Beyond the Baseband: Adaptive Multi-Band Encoding for Full-Spectrum Bioacoustics Classification

Animals hear and vocalize across frequency ranges that differ substantially from humans, often extending into the ultrasonic domain. Yet most computational bioacoustics systems rely on audio models pre-trained at 16 kHz, restricting their usable bandwidth to the 0-8 kHz baseband and discarding higher-frequency information present in many bioacoustic recordings. We investigate a multi-band encoding framework that decomposes the full spectrum of animal calls into band features and fuses them into a unified representation. Similarity analyses on models show that certain encoders produce decorrelated band embeddings that improve class separation after fusion. Classification experiments on three bioacoustic datasets using eight pre-trained models and five fusion strategies show that fused representations consistently outperform the baseband and time-expansion baselines on two datasets, showing the potential of multi-band methods for full-spectrum encoding of animal calls.

Frequency-Aware Semantic Fusion with Gated Injection for AI-generated Image Detection

AI-generated images are becoming increasingly realistic and diverse, posing significant challenges for generalizable detection. While Vision Foundation Models (VFMs) provide rich semantic representations and frequency-based methods capture complementary artifact cues, existing approaches that combine these modalities still suffer from limited generalization, with notable performance degradation on unseen generative models. We attribute this limitation to two key factors: frequency shortcut bias toward easily distinguishable cues associated with specific generators and cross-domain representation conflict between high-level semantics and low-level frequency patterns. To address these issues, we propose a Frequency-aware Gated Injection Network (FGINet) to improve generalization. Specifically, we design a Band-Masked Frequency Encoder (BMFE) that applies cross-band masking in the frequency domain to reduce reliance on generator-specific patterns and encourage more diverse and generalizable representations. We further introduce a Layer-wise Gated Frequency Injection (LGFI) mechanism to progressively inject frequency cues into the VFM backbone with adaptive gating, aligning with its hierarchical abstraction and alleviating representation conflict. Moreover, we propose a Hyperspherical Compactness Learning (HCL) framework with a cosine margin objective to learn compact and well-separated representations. Extensive experiments demonstrate that FGINet achieves state-of-the-art performance and strong generalization across multiple challenging datasets.

Linguistically Informed Multimodal Fusion for Vietnamese Scene-Text Image Captioning: Dataset, Graph Framework, and Phonological Attention

Scene-text image captioning requires fusing three information streams -- visual features, OCR-detected text, and linguistic knowledge -- to generate descriptions that faithfully integrate text visible in images. Existing fusion approaches treat text as language-agnostic, which fails for Vietnamese: a tonal language where diacritics alter word meaning, OCR errors are pervasive, and word boundaries are ambiguous. We argue that Vietnamese scene-text captioning demands \textit{linguistically informed multimodal fusion}, where language-specific structural knowledge is explicitly incorporated into the fusion mechanism. Motivated from these insights, we propose \textbf{HSTFG} (Heterogeneous Scene-Text Fusion Graph), a general-purpose graph fusion framework with learned spatial attention bias, and show through topology analysis that cross-modal graph edges are harmful for scene-text fusion. Building on this finding, we design \textbf{PhonoSTFG} (Phonological Scene-Text Fusion Graph) which specializes graph-level fusion for Vietnamese linguistic reasoning. To support evaluation, we introduce \textbf{ViTextCaps}, the first large-scale Vietnamese scene-text captioning dataset (\textbf{15{,}729} images with \textbf{74{,}970} captions), with comprehensive linguistic analysis showing that 52.8% of the vocabulary is at risk of diacritic collision.

SASI: Leveraging Sub-Action Semantics for Robust Early Action Recognition in Human-Robot Interaction

Understanding human actions is critical for advancing behavior analysis in human-robot interaction. Particularly in tasks that demand quick and proactive feedback, robots must recognize human actions as early as possible from incomplete observations. \textit{Sub-actions} offer the semantic and hierarchical cues needed for this, since human actions are inherently structured and can be decomposed into smaller, meaningful units. However, conventional approaches focus primarily on holistic actions and often overlook the rich semantic structure embedded in sub-actions, making them poorly suited for early recognition. To address this gap, we introduce SASI (Sub-Action Semantics Integrated cross-modal fusion), a novel framework that integrates existing graph convolution networks to fuse spatiotemporal features with sub-action semantics. SASI exploits a segmentation model with a traditional skeleton-based graph convolution network, capturing both fine-grained sub-action semantics and overall spatial context, while operating in real-time at 29 Hz. Experiments on BABEL, a skeleton-based dataset with frame-level annotations, demonstrate that our method improves recognition accuracy over conventional approaches, with additional gains expected as the quality of sub-action segmentation improves. Notably, SASI also achieves superior performance in understanding partial action sequences, revealing its capability for early recognition, which is essential for proactive and seamless Human-Robot Interaction (HRI). JI-ADF: Joint-Individual Learning with Adaptive Decision Fusion for Multimodal Skin Lesion Classification

Skin lesion classification is essential for early dermatological diagnosis, yet many existing computer-aided systems rely primarily on dermoscopic images and underutilize the multimodal evidence routinely available in clinical practice. To address this gap, we propose \textbf{JI-ADF}, a trimodal deep learning framework that integrates dermoscopic images, clinical photographs, and structured patient metadata for clinically grounded skin lesion classification. The proposed architecture combines joint multimodal representation learning with modality-specific auxiliary supervision and an adaptive decision fusion mechanism that dynamically calibrates modality contributions on a per-sample basis. To enhance cross-modal reasoning while preserving modality-specific evidence, we further introduce a multimodal fusion attention (MMFA) module. We evaluate JI-ADF on the large-scale MILK10k benchmark, which reflects real-world clinical acquisition conditions and severe class imbalance. The proposed method demonstrates strong and well-balanced performance across lesion categories, improving sensitivity and Dice score while maintaining high specificity and good calibration. Extensive analyses, including modality ablation, calibration evaluation, and Grad-CAM visualization, further confirm the robustness and clinically meaningful behavior of the model. These results indicate that JI-ADF provides a reliable and practical foundation for multimodal skin lesion classification in real-world clinical settings.

Star-Fusion: A Multi-modal Transformer Architecture for Discrete Celestial Orientation via Spherical Topology

Reliable celestial attitude determination is a critical requirement for autonomous spacecraft navigation, yet traditional "Lost-in-Space" (LIS) algorithms often suffer from high computational overhead and sensitivity to sensor-induced noise. While deep learning has emerged as a promising alternative, standard regression models are often confounded by the non-Euclidean topology of the celestial sphere and by the periodic boundary conditions of Right Ascension (RA) and Declination (Dec). In this paper, we present Star-Fusion, a multi-modal architecture that reformulates orientation estimation as a discrete topological classification task. Our approach leverages spherical K-Means clustering to partition the celestial sphere into K topologically consistent regions, effectively mitigating coordinate wrapping artifacts. The proposed architecture employs a tripartite fusion strategy: a SwinV2-Tiny transformer backbone for photometric feature extraction, a convolutional heatmap branch for spatial grounding, and a coordinate-based MLP for geometric anchoring. Experimental evaluations on a synthetic Hipparcos-derived dataset demonstrate that Star-Fusion achieves a Top-1 accuracy of 93.4% and a Top-3 accuracy of 97.8%. Furthermore, the model exhibits high computational efficiency, maintaining an inference latency of 18.4 ms on resource-constrained COTS hardware, making it a viable candidate for real-time onboard deployment in next-generation satellite constellations.

Camera-RFID Fusion for Robust Asset Tracking in Forested Environments

Passive RFID tags offer a cost-effective and scalable solution for tracking numerous deployed assets. However, in forested environments, signal attenuation and multipath effects generally limit RFID spatial accuracy to the meter level. Conversely, while cameras employing stereo vision can achieve centimeter-level precision, relying solely on computer vision fails to resolve issues arising from spatial association ambiguity and partial occlusions in dense settings. Fusing these modalities allows systems to harness the high-accuracy benefits of vision while retaining the robust, non-line-of-sight identification advantages of RFID. Yet, a primary challenge in achieving this, which is the central focus of this paper, lies in accurately associating the disparate trajectories generated by these two sensors. To overcome this limitation, we introduce a novel camera--RFID fusion framework that integrates depth and object information with advanced trajectory-matching algorithms. By successfully bridging the meter-to-centimeter accuracy gap, the proposed approach helps achieve reliable tag localization even when assets temporarily leave the camera's field of view. To the best of our knowledge, this represents the first application of camera--RFID fusion for asset tracking in natural forested environments.

RADIO-ViPE: Online Tightly Coupled Multi-Modal Fusion for Open-Vocabulary Semantic SLAM in Dynamic Environments

We present RADIO-ViPE (Reduce All Domains Into One -- Video Pose Engine), an online semantic SLAM system that enables geometry-aware open-vocabulary grounding, associating arbitrary natural language queries with localized 3D regions and objects in dynamic environments. Unlike existing approaches that require calibrated, posed RGB-D input, RADIO-ViPE operates directly on raw monocular RGB video streams, requiring no prior camera intrinsics, depth sensors, or pose initialization. The system tightly couples multi-modal embeddings -- spanning vision and language -- derived from agglomerative foundation models (e.g., RADIO) with geometric scene information. This coupling takes place in initialization, optimization and factor graph connections to improve the consistency of the map from multiple modalities. The optimization is wrapped within adaptive robust kernels, designed to handle both actively moving objects and agent-displaced scene elements (e.g., furniture rearranged during ego-centric session). Experiments demonstrate that RADIO-ViPE achieves state-of-the-art results on the dynamic TUM-RGBD benchmark while maintaining competitive performance against offline open-vocabulary methods that rely on calibrated data and static scene assumptions. RADIO-ViPE bridges a critical gap in real-world deployment, enabling robust open-vocabulary semantic grounding for autonomous robotics and unconstrained in-the-wild video streams. Control Your Queries: Heterogeneous Query Interaction for Camera-Radar Fusion

In autonomous driving, camera-radar fusion offers complementary sensing and low deployment cost. Existing methods perform fusion through input mixing, feature map mixing, or query-based feature sampling. We propose a new fusion paradigm, termed heterogeneous query interaction, and present ConFusion, a camera-radar 3D object detector. ConFusion combines image queries, radar queries, and learnable world queries distributed in 3D space to improve query initialization and object coverage. To encourage cross-type interaction among heterogeneous queries, we introduce heterogeneous query mixing (QMix), which performs dedicated cross-type attention after feature sampling to consolidate complementary object evidence. We further propose interactive query swap sampling (QSwap), which improves feature sampling by allowing related queries to exchange informative feature tokens under attention and geometric constraints. Experiments on the nuScenes dataset show that ConFusion achieves state-of-the-art performance, reaching 59.1 mAP and 65.6 NDS on the validation set, and 61.6 mAP and 67.9 NDS on the test set.

TopoMamba: Topology-Aware Scanning and Fusion for Segmenting Heterogeneous Medical Visual Media

Visual state-space models (SSMs) have shown strong potential for medical image segmentation, yet their effectiveness is often limited by two practical issues: axis-biased scan ordering weakens the modeling of oblique and curved structures, and naive multi-branch fusion tends to amplify redundant responses. We present TopoMamba, a topology-aware scan-and-fuse framework for segmenting heterogeneous medical visual media. The method combines a diagonal/anti-diagonal TopoA-Scan branch with the standard Cross-Scan branch to provide complementary structural priors, and introduces ScanCache, a device-aware caching mechanism that amortizes explicit scan-index construction across recurring resolutions. To fuse heterogeneous scan features efficiently, we further propose a lightweight HSIC Gate that regulates branch interaction using a dependence-aware scalar gating rule. We also instantiate a volumetric TopoMamba-3D for practical 3D clinical segmentation. Experiments on Synapse CT, ISIC 2017 dermoscopy, and CVC-ClinicDB endoscopy show that TopoMamba consistently improves segmentation quality over strong CNN, Transformer, and SSM baselines, with particularly clear gains on thin or curved targets such as the pancreas and gallbladder, while maintaining favorable deployment efficiency under dynamic input resolutions. These results suggest that topology-aware scan ordering and lightweight dependence-aware fusion form an effective and practical design for medical multimedia segmentation. The code will be made publicly available.

RACANet: Reliability-Aware Crowd Anchor Network for RGB-T Crowd Counting

RGB-Thermal (T) crowd counting aims to integrate visible-spectrum and thermal infrared information to improve the robustness of crowd density estimation in complex scenes. Although existing studies generally improve counting accuracy through cross-modal feature fusion, most current methods rely on implicit cross-modal fusion strategies and lack explicit modeling of local spatial discrepancies as well as fine-grained characterization of modality reliability at the positional level, thereby limiting the accuracy and interpretability of the fusion process. To address these issues, this paper proposes a two-stage fusion framework, RACANet, a Reliability-Aware Crowd Anchor Network for RGB-T crowd counting. First, we introduce a lightweight cross-modal alignment pretraining stage, which explicitly learns cross-modal semantic correspondences through crowd-prior supervision and local bidirectional soft matching. Then, based on the priors learned during pretraining, a Local Anchor Fusion Module (LAFM) is introduced in the formal training stage. This module generates local semantic anchors by aggregating features from highly reliable regions and further enables adaptive pixel-level feature redistribution with a local attention mechanism. In addition, we propose a discrepancy-aware consistency constraint to dynamically coordinate the reliability of regions where modal representations are consistent. Experiments conducted on two widely used benchmark datasets, RGBT-CC and Drone-RGBT, demonstrate that RACANet outperforms existing methods. Point Cloud Registration for Fusion between SPECT MPI and CTA Images

Clinical fusion of Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography Myocardial Perfusion Imaging (SPECT MPI) and Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) remains limited by cross-modality misregistration and reliance on manual landmarks, which can hinder accurate ischemia localization and lesion-level functional assessment. To address this issue, we propose a registration and fusion framework for SPECT MPI and CTA that integrates functional and structural information for comprehensive cardiac evaluation. The proposed pipeline performs U-Net-based segmentation on both modalities. On SPECT MPI, only the left ventricle (LV) is extracted, and anatomical landmarks are automatically derived from characteristic LV structures. On CTA, both ventricles are segmented, and their spatial relationship is used to automatically define landmarks at the interventricular septal junction. Scale-space consistency preprocessing and landmark-driven coarse registration are applied to mitigate initial misalignment. Based on this initialization, multiple fine registration methods are evaluated on LV epicardial surface point clouds, including ICP, SICP, CPD, CluReg, FFD, and BCPD-plus-plus. The resulting transformations are then propagated to voxel-level resampling for high-precision SPECT-CTA fusion. In a retrospective cohort of 60 patients, the proposed framework preserved sub-millimeter coronary detail from CTA while accurately overlaying quantitative SPECT perfusion. Among the evaluated methods, BCPD-plus-plus achieved the highest accuracy with a mean point cloud distance of 1.7 mm. By combining robust initialization, comparative fine registration, and voxel-level fusion, the proposed approach provides a practical solution for myocardial ischemia localization and functional evaluation of coronary lesions, while remaining independent of any specific fine registration algorithm.

Multi-Branch Non-Homogeneous Image Dehazing via Concentration Partitioning and Image Fusion

Existing single image dehazing methods have demonstrated satisfactory performance on homogeneous thin-haze images; however, they often struggle with non-homogeneous hazy images that exhibit spatially varying haze concentrations and abrupt density transitions across different regions. To address this fundamental limitation, we propose a novel multi-branch deep neural network framework, termed Concentration Partitioning and Image Fusion Network (CPIFNet), which decomposes the challenging non-homogeneous dehazing problem into a set of tractable homogeneous sub-problems. Our key insight is that a single non-homogeneous hazy image can be viewed as a composite of multiple local regions, each exhibiting approximately homogeneous haze characteristics. CPIFNet employs a two-stage architecture consisting of an Image Enhancement Network (IENet) stage and an Image Fusion Network (IFNet) stage. In the first stage, multiple IENet branches are independently trained on homogeneous haze datasets of different concentration levels, producing enhancement models that excel at restoring regions matching their respective haze densities. In the second stage, the IFNet intelligently aggregates the advantageous regions from all enhancement outputs through deep feature stacking and merging, yielding a unified high-quality dehazed result. Furthermore, we introduce a comprehensive loss function incorporating reconstruction, perceptual, structural, and color losses to jointly supervise both stages.

6thGrid-Net: Unified Remote Sensing Image Dehazing Based on Color Restoration and Edge-Preserving

Remote sensing images are frequently degraded by adverse weather conditions, particularly clouds and haze, which severely impair downstream applications. Existing restoration methods typically rely on computationally heavy architectures or sequential pipelines (e.g., detail enhancement followed by color rendition) that suffer from mutual interference and artifact accumulation. Furthermore, recent unified grid-based approaches utilize fixed, isotropic interpolation kernels, neglecting the intrinsic low-dimensional manifold of natural images and inevitably causing edge blur. To address these limitations, we propose 6th Grid-Net, a highly efficient and unified remote sensing image restoration framework tailored for resource-constrained edge devices. Specifically, we construct a novel six-dimensional fusion tensor that seamlessly integrates the color rendition capabilities of 3D LUTs with the spatial-luminance detail preservation of bilateral grids. To overcome the drawbacks of standard trilinear interpolation, we introduce a manifold-adaptive high-dimensional sampling mechanism. This mechanism dynamically adjusts the interpolation kernel based on local edge orientation, texture strength, and color similarity, enabling simultaneous global color stylization and local edge refinement in a single forward pass. Additionally, an edge-aware grid smoothing constraint and dynamic quantization are incorporated to suppress ghosting artifacts and significantly compress the model size. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmark datasets demonstrate that 6th Grid-Net achieves state-of-the-art restoration quality across various degradation scenarios.

CLLAP: Contrastive Learning-based LiDAR-Augmented Pretraining for Enhanced Radar-Camera Fusion

Accurate 3D object detection is critical for autonomous driving, necessitating reliable, cost-effective sensors capable of operating in adverse weather conditions. Camera and millimeter-wave radar fusion has emerged as a promising solution; however, these methods often rely on finely annotated radar data, which is scarce and labor-intensive to produce. To address this challenge, we present CLLAP, a Contrastive Learning-based LiDAR-Augmented Pretraining framework that enhances the performance of existing radar-camera fusion methods for 3D object detection. CLLAP leverages abundant LiDAR data to generate pseudo-radar data using the proposed L2R (LiDAR-to-Radar) Sampling method. Then, it incorporates this data into a novel dual-stage, dual-modality contrastive learning strategy, enabling effective self-supervised learning from paired pseudo-radar and image data. This approach facilitates effective pretraining of existing radar-camera fusion models in a plug-and-play manner, enhancing their feature extraction capabilities and improving detection accuracy and robustness. Experimental results using NuScenes and Lyft Level 5 datasets demonstrate significant performance improvements across three baseline models, highlighting CLLAP's effectiveness in advancing radar-camera fusion for autonomous driving applications.

JSSFF: A Joint Structural-Semantic Fusion Framework for Remote Sensing Image Captioning

The encoder-decoder framework has become widely popular nowadays. In this model, the encoder extracts informative visual features from an input image, and the decoder employs a sequence-to-sequence formulation to generate the corresponding textual description from these features. The existing models focus more on the decision part. However, extracting meaningful information from the image can help the decoder generate an accurate caption by providing information about the objects and their relationship. Remote sensing images are highly complex. One major challenge is detecting objects that extend beyond their visible boundaries due to occlusion, overlapping structures, and unclear edges. Hence, there is a need to design an approach that can effectively capture both high-level semantics and low-level spatial details for accurate caption generation. In this work, we have proposed an edge-aware fusion method by incorporating the original image and its edge-aware version into the encoder to enhance feature representation and boundary awareness. We used a comparison-based beam search (CBBS) to generate captions to achieve a balanced trade-off between quantitative metrics and qualitative caption relevance through fairness-based comparison of candidate captions. Experimental results demonstrate our model's superiority over several baseline models in quantitative and qualitative perspectives.

CommFuse: Hiding Tail Latency via Communication Decomposition and Fusion for Distributed LLM Training

The rapid growth in the size of large language models has necessitated the partitioning of computational workloads across accelerators such as GPUs, TPUs, and NPUs. However, these parallelization strategies incur substantial data communication overhead significantly hindering computational efficiency. While communication-computation overlap presents a promising direction, existing data slicing based solutions suffer from tail latency. To overcome this limitation, this research introduces a novel communication-computation overlap technique to eliminate this tail latency in state of the art overlap methods for distributed LLM training. The aim of this technique is to effectively mitigate communication bottleneck of tensor parallelism and data parallelism for distributed training and inference. In particular, we propose a novel method termed CommFuse that replaces conventional collective operations of reduce-scatter and all-gather with decomposed peer-to-peer (P2P) communication and schedules partitioned computations to enable fine-grained overlap. Our method provides an exact algorithm for reducing communication overhead that eliminates tail latency. Moreover, it presents a versatile solution compatible with data-parallel training and various tensor-level parallelism strategies, including TPSP and UP. Experimental evaluations demonstrate that our technique consistently achieves lower latency, superior Model FLOPS Utilization (MFU), and high throughput.

SMoES: Soft Modality-Guided Expert Specialization in MoE-VLMs

Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) has become a prevalent backbone for large vision-language models (VLMs), yet how modality-specific signals should guide expert routing remains under-explored. Existing routing strategies are either hand-crafted or modality-agnostic, relying on idealized priors that ignore the layer-dependent modality fusion patterns in MoE-VLMs and provide little guidance for expert specialization. We propose Soft Modality-guided Expert Specialization (SMoES), which consists of dynamic soft modality scores that capture layer-dependent fusion patterns, an expert binning mechanism aligned with expert-parallel deployment, and an inter-bin mutual information regularization that encourages coherent modality specialization. Our method leverages attention-based or Gaussian-statistics modality scores to optimize mutual information regularization. Experiments across four MoE-based VLMs and 16 benchmarks demonstrate improvement on both effectiveness and efficiency: 0.9% and 4.2% average gain on multimodal and language-only tasks, 56.1% reduction in EP communication overhead, and 12.3% throughput improvement under realistic deployment. These results validate that aligning routing with modality-aware expert specialization unlocks MoE-VLM capacity and efficiency.

Modeling Induced Pleasure through Cognitive Appraisal Prediction via Multimodal Fusion

Multimodal affective computing analyzes user-generated social media content to predict emotional states. However, a critical gap remains in understanding how visual content shapes cognitive interpretations and elicits specific affective experiences such as pleasure. This study introduces a novel computational model to infer video-induced pleasure via cognitive appraisal variables. The proposed model addresses four challenges: (1) noisy and inconsistent human labels, (2) the semantic gap between "positive emotions" and "pleasure," (3) the scarcity of pleasure-specific datasets, and (4) the limited interpretability of existing black-box fusion methods. Our approach integrates data-driven and cognitive theory-driven methods, using cognitive appraisal theory and a fuzzy model within an innovative framework. The model employs transformer-based architectures and attention mechanisms for fine-grained multimodal feature extraction and interpretable fusion to capture both inter- and intra-modal dynamics associated with pleasure. This enables the prediction of underlying appraisal variables, thereby bridging the semantic gap and enhancing model explainability beyond conventional statistical associations. Experimental results validate the efficacy of the proposed method in detecting video-induced pleasure, achieving a peak accuracy of 0.6624 in predicting pleasure levels. These findings highlight promising implications for affective content recommendation, intelligent media creation, and advancing our understanding of how digital media influences human emotions.

VDLF-Net: Variational Feature Fusion for Adaptive and Few-Shot Visual Learning

This paper introduces VDLF-Net, which attaches a compact VAE to a multi-scale CNN backbone. Latent vectors and softmax-gate support the backbone feature maps, while ℓ2\ell_2-normalized embeddings from the gated maps contribute toward supervised classification or episodic few-shot prediction. Under standard CIFAR-100 and Mini-ImageNet protocols, VDLF-Net demonstrates an improved performance over ResNet-50 Enhanced, VGG-16, Prototypical Networks, and Matching Networks. Extensive ablations show that removing the fine-resolution scale has the greatest impact on VDLF-Net's performance. At the same time, KL and reconstruction at the chosen αα pose a minor performance reduction, demonstrating that performance gains over classical episodic baselines mainly originate from the full VDLF-Net architecture and training strategy.

Layer Embedding Deep Fusion Graph Neural Network

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have demonstrated impressive performance in learning representations from graph-structured data. However, their message-passing mechanism inherently relies on the assumption of label consistency among connected nodes, limiting their applicability to low-homophily settings. Moreover, since message passing operates as a hierarchical diffusion process, GNNs face challenges in capturing long-range dependencies. As network depth increases, the structural noise along heterophilic edges tends to be amplified, resulting in over-smoothing. This issue becomes especially prominent in highly heterophilic graphs, where the propagation of inconsistent semantics across the topology continually exacerbates misaggregation. To address this issue, we propose a novel framework named Layer Embedding Deep Fusion Graph Neural Network (LEDF-GNN). Specifically, we design a Layer Embedding Deep Fusion (LEDF) operator that nonlinearly fuses multi-layer embeddings to capture inter-layer dependencies and effectively alleviate deep propagation degradation. Meanwhile, to mitigate structural heterophily, LEDF-GNN employs a Dual-Topology Parallel Strategy (DTPS) that simultaneously leverages the original and reconstructed topologies, allowing for adaptive structure-semantics co-optimization under diverse homophily conditions. Extensive semi-supervised classification experiments on the citation and image benchmarks demonstrate that, under both homophilic and heterophilic settings, LEDF-GNN consistently outperforms state-of-the-art baselines, validating its effectiveness and generalization capability across diverse graph types.

LatentBurst: A Fast and Efficient Multi Frame Super-Resolution for Hexadeca-Bayer Pattern CIS images

This paper introduces a novel multi frame super-resolution network (MFSR) for burst hexadeca Bayer pattern Contact Image Sensor (CIS) images, which includes demosaicing, denoising, multi-frame fusion, and super-resolution. Designing a high-quality reconstruction network poses several challenges as follows: 1) Unlike the Bayer color filter array (CFA) pattern, it is hard to interpolate hexadeca-Bayer pattern since the pixel distance between the same color groups increases; 2) Due to large object motion and camera movements, the final fusion result usually suffers the misalignment resulting a blurry image or ghosting artifacts; 3) The proposed network should be fast and efficient enough to operate in real-time on mobile devices. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel network, called LatentBurst, which contains: 1) a pyramid align and fusion approach in latent feature to deal with large motion scenario; 2) an efficient UNet-based structure which can run efficiently on mobile device; 3) fine-tuned optical flow estimation and two-step knowledge distillation to reduce domain-gap more effectively. Experimental results in various scenarios demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method compared with other state-of-the-art methods.

On the Complementarity of Quantum and Classical Features: Adaptive Hybrid Quantum-Classical Feature Fusion for Breast Cancer Classification

The integration of quantum machine learning with classical deep learning offers promising avenues for medical image analysis by mapping data into high-dimensional Hilbert spaces. However, effectively unifying these distinct paradigms remains challenging due to common optimization asymmetries. In this paper, a novel hybrid quantum-classical architecture for breast cancer diagnosis based on a dual-branch feature-extraction pipeline is proposed. Our framework extracts and unifies complementary representations from classical models and quantum circuits, exploring both trainable and deterministic (non-trainable) quantum paradigms. To integrate these embeddings, three progressive feature fusion strategies are introduced: Static Hybrid Fusion (SHF) for offline extraction, Dynamic Hybrid Fusion (DHF) for end-to-end co-adaptation, and a novel Temperature-Scaled Hybrid Fusion (TSHF). The TSHF strategy incorporates a learnable scalar, inspired by multimodal learning, that dynamically balances hybrid gradient dynamics and resolves optimization bottlenecks. Empirical validation on the BreastMNIST dataset confirms our hypothesis that unifying diverse feature representations creates a richer data context. The TSHF strategy, specifically when pairing a ResNet backbone with a trainable quantum circuit, achieved a peak accuracy of 87.82%, F1-score of 91.77%, and an AUC-ROC of 89.08%, outperforming purely classical baselines. These results demonstrate that the proposed hybrid framework improves classification accuracy and threshold reliability, providing a stable, high-performance architecture for the clinical deployment of quantum-enhanced diagnostic tools.

Uni-Encoder Meets Multi-Encoders: Representation Before Fusion for Brain Tumor Segmentation with Missing Modalities

Multimodal MRI offers complementary information for brain tumor segmentation, but clinical scans often lack one or more modalities, which degrades segmentation performance. In this paper, we propose UniME (Uni-Encoder Meets Multi-Encoders), a two-stage heterogeneous method for brain tumor segmentation with missing modalities that reconciles the trade-offs among fine-grained structure capture, cross-modal complementarity modeling, and exploitation of available modalities. The idea is to decouple representation learning from segmentation via a two-stage heterogeneous architecture. Stage 1 pretrains a single ViT Uni-Encoder with masked image modeling to establish a unified representation robust to missing modalities. Stage 2 adds modality-specific CNN Multi-Encoders to extract high-resolution, multi-scale, fine-grained features. We fuse these features with the global representation to produce precise segmentations. Experiments on BraTS 2023 and BraTS 2024 show that UniME outperforms previous methods under incomplete multi-modal scenarios. The code is available at https://github.com/Hooorace-S/UniME

However, these models often struggle to accurately delineate fine lesion boundaries and texture patterns essential for early skin cancer diagnosis and treatment planning. In this paper, we propose MambaLiteUNet, a compact yet robust segmentation framework that integrates Mamba state space modeling into a U-Net architecture, along with three key modules: Adaptive Multi-Branch Mamba Feature Fusion (AMF), Local-Global Feature Mixing (LGFM), and Cross-Gated Attention (CGA). These modules are designed to enhance local-global feature interaction, preserve spatial details, and improve the quality of skip connections. MambaLiteUNet achieves an average IoU of 87.12% and average Dice score of 93.09% across ISIC2017, ISIC2018, HAM10000, and PH2 benchmarks, outperforming state-of-the-art models. Compared to U-Net, our model improves average IoU and Dice by 7.72 and 4.61 points, respectively, while reducing parameters by 93.6% and GFLOPs by 97.6%. Additionally, in domain generalization with six unseen lesion categories, MambaLiteUNet achieves 77.61% IoU and 87.23% Dice, performing best among all evaluated models. Semi-Supervised Flow Matching for Mosaiced and Panchromatic Fusion Imaging

Fusing a low resolution (LR) mosaiced hyperspectral image (HSI) with a high resolution (HR) panchromatic (PAN) image offers a promising avenue for video-rate HR-HSI imaging via single-shot acquisition, yet its severely ill-posed nature remains a significant challenge. In this work, we propose a novel semi-supervised flow matching framework for mosaiced and PAN image fusion. Unlike previous diffusion-based approaches constrained by specific protocols or handcrafted assumptions, our method seamlessly integrates an unsupervised scheme with flow matching, resulting in a generalizable and efficient generative framework. Specifically, our method follows a two-stage training pipeline. First, we pretrain an unsupervised prior network to produce an initial pseudo HR-HSI. Building on this, we then train a conditional flow matching model to generate the target HR-HSI, introducing a random voting mechanism that iteratively refines the initial HR-HSI estimate, enabling robust and effective fusion. During inference, we employ a conflict-free gradient guidance strategy that ensures spectrally and spatially consistent HR-HSI reconstruction. Experiments on multiple benchmark datasets demonstrate that our method achieves superior quantitative and qualitative performance by a significant margin compared to representative baselines. Beyond mosaiced and PAN fusion, our approach provides a flexible generative framework that can be readily extended to other image fusion tasks and integrated with unsupervised or blind image restoration algorithms.

HarmoniDiff-RS: Training-Free Diffusion Harmonization for Satellite Image Composition

Satellite image composition plays a critical role in remote sensing applications such as data augmentation, disaste simulation, and urban planning. We propose HarmoniDiff-RS, a training-free diffusion-based framework for harmonizing composite satellite images under diverse domain conditions. To balance harmonization and content preservation, we introduce a Timestep-wise Latent Fusion strategy by leveraging early inverted latents for high harmonization and late latents for semantic consistency to generate a set of composite candidates. A lightweight harmony classifier is trained to further automatically select the most coherent result among them. We also construct RSIC-H, a benchmark dataset for satellite image harmonization derived from fMoW, providing 500 paired composition samples. Multimodal embodiment-aware navigation transformer

Goal-conditioned navigation models for ground robots trained using supervised learning show promising zero-shot transfer, but their collision-avoidance capability nevertheless degrades under distribution shift, i.e. environmental, robot or sensor configuration changes. We propose ViLiNT a multimodal, attention-based policy for goal navigation, trained on heterogeneous data from multiple platforms and environments, which improves robustness with two key features. First, we fuse RGB images, 3D LiDAR point clouds, a goal embedding and a robot's embodiment descriptor with a transformer architecture to capture complementary geometry and appearance cues. The transformer's output is used to condition a diffusion model that generates navigable trajectories. Second, using automatically generated offline labels, we train a path clearance prediction head for scoring and ranking trajectories produced by the diffusion model. The diffusion conditioning as well as the trajectory ranking head depend on a robot's embodiment token that allows our model to generate and select trajectories with respect to the robot's dimensions. Across three simulated environments, ViLiNT improves Success Rate on average by 166% over equivalent state-of-the-art vision-only baseline (NoMaD). This increase in performance is confirmed through real-world deployments of a rover navigating in obstacle fields. These results highlight that combining multimodal fusion with our collision prediction mechanism leads to improved off-road navigation robustness.

EfficientPENet: Real-Time Depth Completion from Sparse LiDAR via Lightweight Multi-Modal Fusion

Depth completion from sparse LiDAR measurements and corresponding RGB images is a prerequisite for accurate 3D perception in robotic systems. Existing methods achieve high accuracy on standard benchmarks but rely on heavy backbone architectures that preclude real-time deployment on embedded hardware. We present EfficientPENet, a two-branch depth completion network that replaces the conventional ResNet encoder with a modernized ConvNeXt backbone, introduces sparsity-invariant convolutions for the depth stream, and refines predictions through a Convolutional Spatial Propagation Network (CSPN). The RGB branch leverages ImageNet-pretrained ConvNeXt blocks with Layer Normalization, 7x7 depthwise convolutions, and stochastic depth regularization. Features from both branches are merged via late fusion and decoded through a multi-scale deep supervision strategy. We further introduce a position-aware test-time augmentation scheme that corrects coordinate tensors during horizontal flipping, yielding consistent error reduction at inference. On the KITTI depth completion benchmark, EfficientPENet achieves an RMSE of 631.94 mm with 36.24M parameters and a latency of 20.51 ms, operating at 48.76 FPS. This represents a 3.7 times reduction in parameters and a 23 times speedup relative to BP-Net, while maintaining competitive accuracy. These results establish EfficientPENet as a practical solution for real-time depth completion on resource-constrained edge platforms such as the NVIDIA Jetson.

ESsEN: Training Compact Discriminative Vision-Language Transformers in a Low-Resource Setting

Vision-language modeling is rapidly increasing in popularity with an ever expanding list of available models. In most cases, these vision-language models have parameters in the tens of billions, which is necessary for some needs, but in many cases smaller models are necessary (e.g., on edge devices or independent robotic platforms). Unfortunately, there is little research in producing light-weight models or in training them with small datasets. Inspired by the language learning progression and data sparsity in child development, in this paper, we address both of these goals in a systematic fashion. We show that two-tower encoder models are superior to one-tower encoders in low-resource settings for discriminative English tasks. We show also that incorporating traditional convolutional networks into the two-tower transformer architecture can help produce parameter efficient vision-language models. Finally, we show that the cross-modal fusion module of two-tower encoders can vary significantly in shape and size while producing the same results. In addition, we present ESsEN, a compact vision-language model that can be trained end-to-end with relatively few resources that performs as well on several tasks with only a fraction of the parameters compared to other models. The experimental results and the tools we present here make vision-language modeling more accessible to a wider variety of researchers.

Efficient Low-Resource Language Adaptation via Multi-Source Dynamic Logit Fusion

Adapting large language models (LLMs) to low-resource languages (LRLs) is constrained by the scarcity of task data and computational resources. Although Proxy Tuning offers a logit-level strategy for introducing scaling effects, it often fails in LRL settings because the large model's weak LRL competence might overwhelm the knowledge of specialized smaller models. We thus propose TriMix, a test-time logit fusion framework that dynamically balances capabilities from three different sources: LRL competence from a continually pretrained small model, task competence from high-resource language instruction tuning, and the scaling benefits of large models. It is data- and compute-efficient, requiring no LRL task annotations, and only continual pretraining on a small model. Experiments across four model families and eight LRLs show that TriMix consistently outperforms single-model baselines and Proxy Tuning. Our analysis reveals that prioritizing the small LRL-specialized model's logits is crucial for success, challenging the prevalent large-model-dominant assumption.

Exploring Boundary-Aware Spatial-Frequency Fusion for Camouflaged Object Detection

Camouflaged Object Detection is challenging due to the high degree of similarity between camouflaged objects and their surrounding backgrounds. Current COD methods mainly rely on edge extraction in the spatial domain and local pixel-level information, neglecting the importance of global structural features. Additionally, they fail to effectively leverage the importance of phase spectrum information within frequency domain features. To this end, we propose a COD framework BASFNet based on boundary-aware frequency domain and spatial domain fusion. This method uses dual guided integration of frequency domain and spatial domain features. A phase-spectrum-based frequency-enhanced edge exploration module (FEEM) and a spatial core segmentation module (SCSM) are introduced to jointly capture the boundary and object features of camouflaged objects. These features are then effectively integrated through a spatial-frequency fusion interaction module (SFFIM). Furthermore, the boundary detection is further optimized through an boundary-aware training strategy. BASFNet outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods on three benchmark datasets, validating the effectiveness of the fusion of frequency and spatial domain information in COD tasks.

DREAM: Dynamic Retinal Enhancement with Adaptive Multi-modal Fusion for Expert Precision Medical Report Generation

Automating medical reports for retinal images requires a sophisticated blend of visual pattern recognition and deep clinical knowledge. Current Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs) often struggle in specialized medical fields where data is scarce, leading to models that overfit and miss subtle but critical pathologies. To address this, we introduce DREAM (Dynamic Retinal Enhancement with Adaptive Multi-modal Fusion), a novel framework for high-fidelity medical report generation that excels even with limited data. DREAM employs a unique two-stage fusion mechanism that intelligently integrates visual data with clinical keywords curated by ophthalmologists. First, the Abstractor module maps image and keyword features into a shared space, enhancing visual data with pathology-relevant insights. Next, the Adaptor performs adaptive multi-modal fusion, dynamically weighting the importance of each modality using learnable parameters to create a unified representation. To ensure the model's outputs are semantically grounded in clinical reality, a Contrastive Alignment module aligns these fused representations with ground-truth medical reports during training. By combining medical expertise with an efficient fusion strategy, DREAM sets a new state-of-the-art on the DeepEyeNet benchmark, achieving a BLEU-4 score of 0.241, and further demonstrates strong generalization to the ROCO dataset.

Multimodal Fusion of Histopathology Images and Electronic Health Records for Early Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, and timely accurate diagnosis is critical to improving survival outcomes. While convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have demonstrated strong performance on histopathology image classification, and machine learning models on structured electronic health records (EHR) have shown utility for clinical risk stratification, most existing work treats these modalities in isolation. This paper presents a systematic multimodal framework that integrates patch-level histopathology features from the BreCaHAD dataset with structured clinical data from MIMIC-IV. We train and evaluate unimodal image models (a simple CNN baseline and ResNet-18 with transfer learning), unimodal tabular models (XGBoost and a multilayer perceptron), and an intermediate-fusion model that concatenates latent representations from both modalities. ResNet-18 achieves near-perfect accuracy (1.000) and AUC (1.000) on three-class patch-level classification, while XGBoost achieves 98% accuracy on the EHR prediction task. The intermediate fusion model yields a macro-average AUC of 0.997, outperforming all unimodal baselines and delivering the largest improvements on the diagnostically critical but class-imbalanced mitosis category (AUC 0.994). Grad-CAM and SHAP interpretability analyses validate that model decisions align with established pathological and clinical criteria. Our results demonstrate that multimodal integration delivers meaningful improvements in both predictive performance and clinical transparency.

Dynamic Emotion and Personality Profiling for Multimodal Deception Detection

Deception detection is of great significance for ensuring information security and conducting public opinion analysis, with personality factors and emotion cues playing a critical role. However, existing methods lack sample-level dynamic annotations for emotions and personality. In this paper, we propose an innovative multi-model multi-prompt annotation scheme and a strict label quality evaluation standard, and establish a multimodal joint detection dataset DDEP for deception, emotion, and personality. Meanwhile, we propose Rel-DDEP, an adaptive reliability-weighted fusion framework. Our framework quantifies uncertainty by mapping modal features to a high-dimensional Gaussian distribution space. It then performs reliability-weighted fusion and incorporates an alignment module and a sorting constraint module to achieve joint detection of deception, emotion, and personality. Experimental results on the MDPE and DDEP datasets show that our Rel-DDEP significantly outperforms the existing state-of-the-art baseline models in three tasks. The F1 score of the deception detection increases by 2.53%, that of the emotion detection increases by 2.66%, and that of the personality detection increases by 9.30%. The experiments fully verify the necessity of annotating dynamic emotion and personality labels for each sample and the effectiveness of reliability-weighted fusion.

C-GenReg: Training-Free 3D Point Cloud Registration by Multi-View-Consistent Geometry-to-Image Generation with Probabilistic Modalities Fusion

We introduce C-GenReg, a training-free framework for 3D point cloud registration that leverages the complementary strengths of world-scale generative priors and registration-oriented Vision Foundation Models (VFMs). Current learning-based 3D point cloud registration methods struggle to generalize across sensing modalities, sampling differences, and environments. Hence, C-GenReg augments the geometric point cloud registration branch by transferring the matching problem into an auxiliary image domain, where VFMs excel, using a World Foundation Model to synthesize multi-view-consistent RGB representations from the input geometry. This generative transfer, preserves spatial coherence across source and target views without any fine-tuning. From these generated views, a VFM pretrained for finding dense correspondences extracts matches. The resulting pixel correspondences are lifted back to 3D via the original depth maps. To further enhance robustness, we introduce a "Match-then-Fuse" probabilistic cold-fusion scheme that combines two independent correspondence posteriors, that of the generated-RGB branch with that of the raw geometric branch. This principled fusion preserves each modality inductive bias and provides calibrated confidence without any additional learning. C-GenReg is zero-shot and plug-and-play: all modules are pretrained and operate without fine-tuning. Extensive experiments on indoor (3DMatch, ScanNet) and outdoor (Waymo) benchmarks demonstrate strong zero-shot performance and superior cross-domain generalization. For the first time, we demonstrate a generative registration framework that operates successfully on real outdoor LiDAR data, where no imagery data is available.

Tri-Modal Fusion Transformers for UAV-based Object Detection

Reliable UAV object detection requires robustness to illumination changes, motion blur, and scene dynamics that suppress RGB cues. Thermal long-wave infrared (LWIR) sensing preserves contrast in low light, and event cameras retain microsecond-level temporal edges, but integrating all three modalities in a unified detector has not been systematically studied. We present a tri-modal framework that processes RGB, thermal, and event data with a dual-stream hierarchical vision transformer. At selected encoder depths, a Modality-Aware Gated Exchange (MAGE) applies inter-sensor channel and spatial gating, and a Bidirectional Token Exchange (BiTE) module performs bidirectional token-level attention with depthwise-pointwise refinement, producing resolution-preserving fused maps for a standard feature pyramid and two-stage detector. We introduce a 10,489-frame UAV dataset with synchronized and pre-aligned RGB-thermal-event streams and 24,223 annotated vehicles across day and night flights. Through 61 controlled ablations, we evaluate fusion placement, mechanism (baseline MAGE+BiTE, CSSA, GAFF), modality subsets, and backbone capacity. Tri-modal fusion improves over all dual-modal baselines, with fusion depth having a significant effect and a lightweight CSSA variant recovering most of the benefit at minimal cost. This work provides the first systematic benchmark and modular backbone for tri-modal UAV-based object detection.

Beyond Feature Fusion: Contextual Bayesian PEFT for Multimodal Uncertainty Estimation

We introduce CoCo-LoRA, a multimodal, uncertainty-aware parameter-efficient fine-tuning method for text prediction tasks accompanied by audio context. Existing PEFT approaches such as LoRA are efficient but typically deterministic, while recent Bayesian low-rank adapters model uncertainty in a lightweight way yet remain largely unimodal and condition uncertainty primarily on internal text features. This leaves them poorly equipped to reflect uncertainty driven by external acoustic factors such as background noise, channel variability, or speaking style, which can materially affect reliability in speech-centered applications. CoCo-LoRA addresses this gap by conditioning a contextual variational posterior in the low-rank space on both local text-derived adapter features and an audio-derived context signal. A pooled audio embedding is projected once into a shared context space and then adapted through lightweight layer-wise heads, enabling global-to-local, depth-specific modulation of the adapter uncertainty and update without high-dimensional multimodal fusion. Stochasticity is confined to a compact latent component in the rank space, preserving PEFT scalability while producing audio-sensitive, heteroscedastic uncertainty. Based on our evaluations across diverse tasks and backbone combinations, CoCo-LoRA consistently matches or outperforms text-only PEFT and conventional feature-fusion transfer baselines, particularly on high-coverage labels where reliable adaptation is critical. The results indicate that using audio as a contextual uncertainty signal, rather than as a fused feature stream, provides a robust and parameter-efficient alternative for multimodal low-resource prediction.

FL-MHSM: Spatially-adaptive Fusion and Ensemble Learning for Flood-Landslide Multi-Hazard Susceptibility Mapping at Regional Scale

Existing multi-hazard susceptibility mapping (MHSM) studies often rely on spatially uniform models, treat hazards independently, and provide limited representation of cross-hazard dependence and uncertainty. To address these limitations, this study proposes a deep learning (DL) workflow for joint flood-landslide multi-hazard susceptibility mapping (FL-MHSM) that combines two-level spatial partitioning, probabilistic Early Fusion (EF), a tree-based Late Fusion (LF) baseline, and a soft-gating Mixture of Experts (MoE) model, with MoE serving as final predictive model. The proposed design preserves spatial heterogeneity through zonal partitions and enables data-parallel large-area prediction using overlapping lattice grids. In Kerala, EF remained competitive with LF, improving flood recall from 0.816 to 0.840 and reducing Brier score from 0.092 to 0.086, while MoE provided strongest performance for flood susceptibility, achieving an AUC-ROC of 0.905, recall of 0.930, and F1-score of 0.722. In Nepal, EF similarly improved flood recall from 0.820 to 0.858 and reduced Brier score from 0.057 to 0.049 relative to LF, while MoE outperformed both EF and LF for landslide susceptibility, achieving an AUC-ROC of 0.914, recall of 0.901, and F1-score of 0.559. GeoDetector analysis of MoE outputs further showed that dominant factors varied more across zones in Kerala, where susceptibility was shaped by different combinations of topographic, land-cover, and drainage-related controls, while Nepal showed a more consistent influence of topographic and glacier-related factors across zones. These findings show that EF and LF provide complementary predictive behavior, and that their spatially adaptive integration through MoE yields robust overall predictive performance for FL-MHSM while supporting interpretable characterization of multi-hazard susceptibility in spatially heterogeneous landscapes.

Hybrid Spectro-Temporal Fusion Framework for Structural Health Monitoring

Structural health monitoring plays a critical role in ensuring structural safety by analyzing vibration responses from engineering systems. This paper proposes a Spectro-Temporal Alignment framework and a Hybrid Spectro-Temporal Fusion framework that integrate arrival-time interval descriptors with spectral features to capture both fine-scale and coarse-scale vibration dynamics. Experiments conducted on data collected from an LDS V406 electrodynamic shaker demonstrate that the proposed spectro-temporal representations significantly outperform conventional input formulations. The results indicate that a temporal resolution (Δτ) of 0.008 of 0.02 favors traditional machine learning models, whereas a finer resolution (Δτ) of 0.008 effectively unlocks the performance potential of deep learning architectures. Beyond classification accuracy, a comprehensive stability analysis based on condensed indices, including mean performance, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, and balanced score, shows that the proposed hybrid framework consistently achieves higher accuracy with substantially lower variability compared to baseline and alignment-only approaches. Overall, these results demonstrate that the proposed framework provides a robust, accurate, and reliable solution for vibration-based structural health monitoring.

Univariate Channel Fusion for Multivariate Time Series Classification

Multivariate time series classification (MTSC) plays a crucial role in various domains, including biomedical signal analysis and motion monitoring. However, existing approaches, particularly deep learning models, often require high computational resources, making them unsuitable for real-time applications or deployment on low-cost hardware, such as IoT devices and wearable systems. In this paper, we propose the Univariate Channel Fusion (UCF) method to deal with MTSC efficiently. UCF transforms multivariate time series into a univariate representation through simple channel fusion strategies such as the mean, median, or dynamic time warping barycenter. This transformation enables the use of any classifier originally designed for univariate time series, providing a flexible and computationally lightweight alternative to complex models. We evaluate UCF in five case studies covering diverse application domains, including chemical monitoring, brain-computer interfaces, and human activity analysis. The results demonstrate that UCF often outperforms baseline methods and state-of-the-art algorithms tailored for MTSC, while achieving substantial gains in computational efficiency, being particularly effective in problems with high inter-channel correlation.

Camo-M3FD: A New Benchmark Dataset for Cross-Spectral Camouflaged Pedestrian Detection

Pedestrian detection is fundamental to autonomous driving, robotics, and surveillance. Despite progress in deep learning, reliable identification remains challenging due to occlusions, cluttered backgrounds, and degraded visibility. While multispectral detection-combining visible and thermal sensors-mitigates poor visibility, the challenge of camouflaged pedestrians remains largely unexplored. Existing Camouflaged Object Detection (COD) benchmarks focus on biological species, leaving a gap in safety-critical human detection where targets blend into their surroundings. To address this, we introduce Camo-M3FD (derived from the M3FD dataset), a novel benchmark for cross-spectral camouflaged pedestrian detection, consisting of registered visible-thermal image pairs. The dataset is curated using quantitative metrics to ensure high foreground-background similarity. We provide high-quality pixel-level masks and establish a standardized evaluation framework using state-of-the-art COD models. Our results demonstrate that while thermal signals provide indispensable localization cues, multispectral fusion is essential for refining structural details. Camo-M3FD serves as a foundational resource for developing robust and safety-critical detection systems. The dataset is available on GitHub: https://cod-espol.github.io/Camo-M3FD/

Enhancing time-frequency resolution with optimal transport and barycentric fusion of multiple spectrogram

Time-frequency representations, such as the short-time Fourier transform (STFT), are fundamental tools for analyzing non-stationary signals. However, their ability to achieve sharp localization in both time and frequency is inherently limited by the Gabor-Heisenberg uncertainty principle. In this paper, we address this limitation by introducing a method to generate super-resolution spectrograms through the fusion of two or more spectrograms with varying resolutions. Specifically, we compute the super-resolution spectrogram as the barycenter of input spectrograms using optimal transport (OT) divergences. Unlike existing fusion approaches, our method does not require the input spectrograms to share the same time-frequency grid. Instead, the input spectrograms can be computed using any STFT parameters, and the resulting super-resolution spectrogram can be defined on an arbitrary user-specified grid. We explore various OT divergences based on different transportation costs. Notably, we introduce a novel transportation cost that preserves time-frequency geometry while significantly reducing computational complexity compared to standard Wasserstein barycenters. We adopt the unbalanced OT framework and derive a new block majorization-minimization algorithm for efficient barycenter computation. We validate the proposed method on controlled synthetic signals and recorded speech using both quantitative and qualitative evaluations. The results show that our approach combines the best localization properties of the input spectrograms and outperforms an unsupervised state-of-the-art fusion method.

Chain of Modality: From Static Fusion to Dynamic Orchestration in Omni-MLLMs

Omni-modal Large Language Models (Omni-MLLMs) promise a unified integration of diverse sensory streams. However, recent evaluations reveal a critical performance paradox: unimodal baselines frequently outperform joint multimodal inference. We trace this perceptual fragility to the static fusion topologies universally employed by current models, identifying two structural pathologies: positional bias in sequential inputs and alignment traps in interleaved formats, which systematically distort attention regardless of task semantics. To resolve this functional rigidity, we propose Chain of Modality (CoM), an agentic framework that transitions multimodal fusion from passive concatenation to dynamic orchestration. CoM adaptively orchestrates input topologies, switching among parallel, sequential, and interleaved pathways to neutralize structural biases. Furthermore, CoM bifurcates cognitive execution into two task-aligned pathways: a streamlined Direct-Decide'' path for direct perception and a structured Reason-Decide'' path for analytical auditing. Operating in either a training-free or a data-efficient SFT setting, CoM achieves robust and consistent generalization across diverse benchmarks.

Reliability-Guided RGB-D Sensor Fusion for Glare-Resilient Navigation Costmaps

Specular glare on reflective floors, glass boundaries, and glossy indoor surfaces can corrupt active-stereo RGB-D measurements, producing holes and spikes that persist as phantom obstacles in navigation costmaps. This article presents a glare-resilient RGB-D sensor-fusion method based on explicit per-pixel depth reliability. A lightweight Depth Reliability Map network (DRM-Net) predicts sensor trustworthiness, and reliability-guided fusion (RGF) combines continuous weighting with a minimum gate before occupancy integration. Rejected measurements generate neither obstacle insertion nor free-space clearing; affected cells remain unknown or retain prior evidence. Training targets are built from a five-frame, pose-aligned multiview buffer using independent LiDAR/AMCL poses, occlusion-aware aggregation, and a calibrated range-dependent depth-uncertainty model. The evaluation includes tuned nvblox TSDF, Intel RealSense SDK postprocessing, high-threshold stereoconfidence filtering, TDCNet, and HDCNet baselines, together with statistical, safety, generalization, and embedded-runtime analyses. Under severe glare, Depth Reliability Map (DRM)+RGF achieves false obstacle rate (FOR) 0.056 +/- 0.012, free-space recall (FSR) 0.897 +/- 0.045, FNOR 0.018, 1.00 +/- 0.00 degraded-mode safety interventions per 10 m, and 91.4% task success while operating at 16.5 ms per frame. Across the retained reflective-scene trials (Baseline N = 98; DRM+RGF N = 105), collisions decrease from 14 to 1. These results support RGF as a favorable safety-utility tradeoff relative to aggressive filtering and dense completion for glare-affected indoor navigation.

MAGE: Modality-Agnostic Music Generation and Target-Source Extraction

Recent advances in multimodal audio generation have enabled music synthesis from text, visual cues, and other high-level conditions. However, most systems are designed for a single operating mode: either generating music without a reference mixture or extracting a target source from an existing mixture. This fixed-task design limits their use when different combinations of text, visual, and mixture inputs are available. To address this gap, we propose MAGE, a modality-agnostic framework for conditional music generation and mixture-grounded target-source extraction within a shared continuous latent space. Our approach introduces three key components. First, a Controlled Multimodal FluxFormer models the conditional flow from noise to a target audio latent, enabling the same backbone to operate with or without a mixture condition. Second, Audio-Visual Nexus Alignment maps frame-level visual features onto the audio latent sequence, allowing visual evidence to condition the generation process at the audio-token level. Third, a cross-gated modulation mechanism uses the aligned visual representation to regulate intermediate audio features, while text provides separate semantic guidance. We further train MAGE with dynamic modality masking, exposing the same model to text-only, visual-only, joint text-visual, mixture-conditioned, and unconditional configurations. Experiments on the MUSIC benchmark evaluate MAGE under separate protocols for mixture-free generation and mixture-grounded target-source extraction. The results show that MAGE provides a shared conditioning interface across both settings, and that the proposed alignment and gating components improve interference suppression in the extraction task.
