Multi-Modal Controlled Coherent Motion Generation

It is natural for humans to walk and talk simultaneously. This paper tackles the challenge of replicating such natural behaviors in 3D avatar motion generation driven by concurrent multimodal inputs, such as a text description of a man walking alongside speech audio. Existing methods, constrained by the scarcity of aligned multimodal data, typically combine motions from individual modalities sequentially or through weighted sums. However, they often result in mismatched or unrealistic movements. To overcome these limitations, we propose MOCO, a novel diffusion-based framework capable of processing multiple simultaneous inputs, including speech audio, text descriptions, and trajectory data, to generate coherent and lifelike motions without requiring aligned multimodal data. Our key innovation lies in decoupling the motion generation process. During each denoising step, the diffusion model independently generates motions for each modality from the input noise and assembles the body parts according to predefined spatial rules. The resulting combined motion is then diffused and serves as the input noise for the subsequent denoising step. This iterative approach enables each modality to refine its contribution within the context of the overall motion, progressively harmonizing movements across modalities. Consequently, the generated motions become increasingly natural and fluid with each iteration, achieving coherent and synchronized behaviors. We evaluate our approach using a purpose-built multimodal benchmark. Experimental results demonstrate that MOCO outperforms existing baselines, advancing the field of multimodal motion generation for 3D avatars.

Vidu S2: Real-Time Interactive, Editable, and Spatial Video Generation

We present Vidu S2, which comprises Vidu S2-Avatar, a real-time interactive digital-character model, and Vidu S2-Editing, a real-time video editing model. Moreover, we explore the feasibility of real-time spatial video generation for both Vidu S2-Avatar and Vidu S2-Editing. Compared with Vidu S1, Vidu S2-Avatar supports real-time 720p video generation, generation with dynamic references that can be updated at any moment, and stronger instruction following, such as dancing. Vidu S2-Editing supports editing a video stream in real time, including style rendering, clothing replacement, character replacement, and background replacement. Experiments show that Vidu S2 outperforms all baselines. A playable online demo is available at https://vidu.com/vidu-stream.

Avatar-Forever: Decoupled Parallel Training for High-Quality Real-Time Infinite Avatars

Existing streaming video systems often rely on sequential, distillation-centered training pipelines to enable few-step long-video generation. However, this paradigm suffers from two limitations. First, failures or distribution shifts introduced in earlier stages affect later optimization, complicating the training process to converge. Second, the distillation-centric objective favours short-term generation but is prone to quality degradation when autoregressive errors accumulate over long rollouts. We propose Avatar-Forever, a decoupled parallel training framework for high-quality real-time infinite interactive avatars. Instead of coupling generation efficiency and long-horizon robustness under a sequential distillation pipeline, we treat them as two independent capabilities that can be trained in parallel. One branch performs full-parameter distillation to train an efficient generator with high visual quality, while another trains a lightweight long-horizon adapter via Recovery-oriented Rollout Training (RRT), which improves generation robustness under long-horizon inference conditions. Our decoupled parallel training design simplifies the overall training process and avoids unnecessary objective conflicts between few-step generation and long-horizon adaptation. We further introduce ForeverCache, a chunk-wise feature caching mechanism to substantially reduce redundant history computation during streaming inference. Built upon a 22B video foundation model, Avatar-Forever supports unbounded audio-driven avatar generation while maintaining identity consistency, motion coherence, and visual fidelity, enabling an end-to-end throughput of high-resolution 768x512 videos at 27.2 FPS on a single H100 GPU and providing a practical path toward stable digital humans.

DSAR: Dual-Stream Autoregressive Modeling of Temporal Cloth Dynamics for Photorealistic Animatable Avatars

Creating photorealistic and temporally coherent animatable human avatars from RGB videos remains challenging. Current methods struggle to capture realistic cloth dynamics, producing over-smoothed appearance or severe artifacts on out-of-distribution poses. This limitation stems from a fundamental oversight: existing approaches neglect the temporal causality inherent in cloth physics, where current states emerge from previous states through temporal evolution rather than instantaneous skeletal configurations alone. Without explicit modeling of this causal structure, networks learn pose-appearance correlations instead of motion evolution, leading to poor generalization. We introduce a dual-stream autoregressive framework that explicitly models both observable geometric information and implicit internal state. The geometric stream propagates surface displacement from the previous frame, while the state stream fuses current features with historical states retrieved from a memory bank. Motion-adaptive aggregation handles spatially-varying dynamics, and adaptive regularization balances smoothness with flexibility. Experiments on challenging datasets demonstrate significant improvements in rendering quality, temporal consistency, and generalization to motion patterns beyond training distributions, validating that dual-stream temporal modeling enables realistic cloth dynamics.

Controllable Clothing: Precise Labels and Generation for Virtual Try-On with Latent Diffusion Models

In this technical report, I present a new method for guiding image generation in the context of Virtual- Try-On (VITON). The proposed method leverages new open source Ai models to augment the image data with labels, such as lengths and styles. By training adapters with these labels paired with images of the garments, the model can produce a more diverse set of images that the user can control. For the end user, such as a retailer, this means that they can assure that the produced image is as true to the true fit as possible, not misleading consumers

EmpaAva: An Open-source Agentic 3D-Avatar Empathetic Live Chatbot

This paper presents EmpaAva, to our knowledge the first open-source, agentic 3D-avatar empathetic chatbot, which carries empathetic response generation (ERG) from text-only exchanges into live, face-to-face interaction. Through a video-call-like interface, a user speaks to a 3D digital human that reads their affect from speech and optional vision, and replies with emotional speech, lip-synced facial motion, and photorealistic 3D Gaussian rendering. At its core, an LLM coordinates a Tri-Agent Architecture, in which perception, empathetic response planning, and embodied rendering form a closed loop, paired with a Response Planning layer that compiles each reply into an executable multimodal plan, keeping voice, expression, and rendering on one empathetic intent. Building on strong open-source modules, EmpaAva supplies the intelligence that binds them into one controllable, inspectable experience. In automatic and human evaluations, EmpaAva surpasses text-only, 2D talking-face, and multimodal avatar baselines in emotion understanding, response quality, and audio-visual consistency. We open-source EmpaAva with an online live demo.

Bunraku: Turning a Single Illustration into an Editable Live2D Character

Live2D is the dominant 2D character-animation format for anime characters and virtual avatars, representing each character as a stack of RGBA layers driven by per-layer mesh deformation. Despite its wide use in virtual streaming, mobile games, and interactive characters, authoring a Live2D model still demands weeks of manual layer separation, occlusion completion, mesh placement, and keyframing, and no prior generative method produces such a structured asset end-to-end. We present the first system that, from a single illustration, generates all the structured information a Live2D runtime consumes: ordered RGBA layers, a deformation mesh per layer, and the parameter-driven keypose vertex offsets that make the character move. Stage 1 casts layered decomposition as a layered diffusion process under a Live2D-aware organ-level taxonomy, producing an ordered RGBA stack with hidden-region completion. Stage 2 builds a content-conforming triangle mesh for each layer from its alpha channel alone, then predicts the keypose displacement field of all layers jointly: every vertex of every layer is one token, self-attention spans layer boundaries, and each displacement is factorised into a bounded direction and a log-magnitude. Joint rather than independent prediction is what makes the result a coherent character instead of separately plausible parts, and is our largest gain; scaling the network 112x yields none. On 50 held-out characters, under true generation with no teacher forcing, Stage 2 attains a per-vertex direction cosine of 0.768 (median 0.828). Because a layer's mesh derives from its alpha channel, a clothing layer can be re-textured from a natural-language instruction while the mesh and predicted animation are reused byte-for-byte. We further contribute Live2D-Bench, the first standardized benchmark for the task, and an 8,884-model Live2D corpus with layer and animation supervision.

AptAvatar: Fast and Vivid Long-Form Audio-Driven Video Generation for Production-Ready Avatars

Production-ready audio-driven avatar generation requires efficient inference without sacrificing fidelity or motion expressiveness. However, existing acceleration methods often compromise quality through restrictive architectural choices, such as causal attention and short temporal horizons, or by reducing model capacity and resolution. Without such compromises, we propose AptAvatar, a 14B-parameter long-form audio-driven avatar generation framework that delivers fast and expressive inference. For efficiency in production-level applications, AptAvatar addresses the extreme two-step generation challenge. To bridge the gap between the multi-step teacher model and the two-step student model, we introduce Endpoint-Anchored Distribution Distillation. It augments vanilla distribution matching with a dedicated Anchor Score Estimator trained on the trajectory-endpoint distribution defined from a frozen pretrained 4-step bridge generator. This provides an attainable endpoint-level anchor for the evolving two-step student. To improve long-horizon consistency, we further introduce Self-Generated History Replay, which reuses cached outputs from earlier generator checkpoints as history conditions during chunk-wise training. This approximates inference-time conditioning on self-generated histories without costly online rollouts, mitigating quality degradation from accumulated history errors. Extensive experiments demonstrate that AptAvatar generates vivid 720p long-form avatar videos with only 2 NFEs, achieving a 60x speedup while preserving visual fidelity and long-horizon identity. Head Avatars with Dynamic Explicit Hair

We present DynHair, a novel method for tracking and modeling dynamic hair for human head avatars. From video input, we reconstruct a dynamic head avatar with an explicit strand-based hair representation using structured 3D Gaussian Splatting. In contrast to the face region of human head avatars, which can be modeled with 3D Gaussians that are attached or generated with respect to some expressive 3D head model, hair is particularly challenging as it exhibits dynamic motion effects. Therefore, we present a novel method that models the dynamic deformations of the hair strands using a temporal network that is conditioned on angular velocity and acceleration of the head, as well as relative gravity. Specifically, an LSTM encodes the motion history and modulates per-point strand features via FiLM conditioning which further used by MLP to produce physically plausible displacements to canonical hairstyle. We jointly optimize this motion and appearance representation of the hair, with a 3DGS-based representation of the face-region, via differentiable Gaussian splatting with photometric, geometric, and physics-based supervision. As a result of our method, we retrieve hair tracking of the training video data and an animatable head avatar with controllable hair dynamics. In our experiments, we demonstrate state-of-the-art performance in terms of hair dynamics, temporal consistency, and generalization across subjects.

STEER: Steerable Dyadic Head Avatars

Facial movement and expression are central to face-to-face communication, conveying turn-taking, attention, agreement, and engagement alongside speech. While speech-driven facial animation has made strong progress in lip synchronization and audio-conditioned motion generation, most methods treat conversational behavior as an emergent byproduct of audio, or expose only coarse sequence-level affect control. As a result, key non-verbal channels such as gaze contact and aversion, rhythmic head motion, and emotion remain difficult to explicitly control. We present STEER, a controllable 3D dyadic motion prior for reactive conversational head avatars. STEER factorizes conversational behavior into explicit controls for gaze, head rhythm, and emotion, allowing users to steer how an avatar listens, reacts, and engages with a conversation partner. Since temporally aligned annotations for these behaviors are not available in public dyadic corpora, we introduce a tracking and annotation pipeline that recovers behavioral pseudo-labels from in-the-wild dyadic video. A causal flow-matching transformer then learns partner-aware target motion conditioned on audio, partner motion, emotion and the proposed behavioral controls. We further embed STEER in a photorealistic avatar pipeline by extending a Universal Gaussian Head-Avatar Prior with a learned mapping from tracked parametric motion into its avatar-driving space. This enables controllable animation of high-fidelity Gaussian head avatars without re-training the underlying avatar model. STEER outperforms recent dyadic motion baselines on motion quality, dynamics, and diversity, remains competitive on partner coupling, and enables gaze, head-rhythm, and emotion edits together with an interactive live deployment. We make our code and dataset annotations available at our webpage.

OmniMate: Open-Ended Real-Time Streaming Audio-Visual Generation for Interactive Avatars

Recent advances in diffusion-based generative models have enabled real-time audio-driven avatar generation and unified audio-visual synthesis, providing a promising foundation for interactive avatar systems. However, extending unified audio-visual synthesis to real-time interactive streaming remains challenging, as the generation horizon is unknown in advance and the generated identity may drift over long-term generation. To address these challenges, we propose OmniMate, a unified framework for open-ended real-time interactive audio-visual avatar generation. OmniMate jointly synthesizes visual content, speech, and sound effects in real time, enabling natural and immersive multi-turn interactions. To achieve adaptive response progression, we introduce a Generation Progress Controller (GPC) that explicitly models the generation progress of each streaming chunk, allowing the model to complete responses according to the desired progress and achieve seamless transitions between execution and listening states. To preserve long-term cross-modal identity consistency, we propose a Multi-Reference Conditioning Module (MRCM), which leverages multiple reference images and a reference speech segment to provide persistent visual and speaker identity cues throughout long-duration streaming interactions. Extensive experiments on an interaction-oriented adaptation of VerseBench demonstrate that OmniMate achieves high-quality, low-latency streaming generation while maintaining strong long-term audio-visual consistency. The results further show that OmniMate supports realistic, coherent, and responsive interactive avatar experiences over extended multi-turn conversations.

Real-time Generation of Listener Nodding via Prediction of Kinematic Parameters for Avatar Dialogue Systems

In human dialogue, we achieve smooth communication by expressing nonverbal cues such as eye contact, nodding, and facial expressions with precise timing. It is expected for conversational avatars to express these cues appropriately to realize natural and human-like interactions. This study focuses on nodding, which is crucial for demonstrating active listening and encouraging further user utterances. We propose a model that predicts both timing and kinematic parameters representing the motion features of listener nodding in real time. The proposed model consists of a timing prediction module and a kinematic parameter prediction module. Each implements a dyadic attention network over the speaker and listener channels based on the technique of Voice Activity Projection (VAP). Unlike conventional models, this approach enables real-time prediction of kinematic parameters based on the specific context of the dialogue rather than just predicting the timing. Furthermore, we demonstrate the effectiveness of fine-tuning the kinematic parameter prediction module initialized from the trained timing prediction module. The proposed model is lightweight and capable of real-time operation, and it has been integrated into an avatar dialogue system. Subjective evaluation experiments shows that our proposed method significantly outperforms both a baseline with stochastic timing and another with fixed-motion nodding. The code and trained models are available at https://github.com/MaAI-Kyoto/MaAI.

Toward Inclusive Avatar Design with Limb Differences Through Artificial Intelligence

As extended reality becomes more popular for social interaction and entertainment, 3D avatars must represent the full diversity of body types. Most 3D avatar systems only support normative bodies and do not accurately depict people with limb differences, amputations, or other morphological variations. This paper reviews emerging technical approaches for inclusive 3D avatar customization for this group and current guidelines that promote respectful and accurate representation. We highlight persistent challenges, including the scarcity of diverse datasets and the limitations in animation for non-normative anatomies. This paper positions artificial intelligence as a promising path to overcoming these limitations and advancing inclusive 3D avatar generation.

The In-Car Sign Language Corpus (ICSL): A Multi-Modal Resource for Constrained-Space Sign Language Recognition

This paper addresses the challenges of using sign language within shared mobility services, such as taxis, carpools, or ride-sharing platforms. The use of sign language recognition (SLR) in real-world, confined environments, specifically vehicle interiors remains largely unexplored. To motivate research in this area, we present the In-Car Sign Language (ICSL) dataset for Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), with the long-term goal of improving public transport accessibility for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing community. The dataset consists of: (1) high-precision laboratory motion capture (MoCap) data to establish an idealized linguistic baseline and (2) real-world multi-modal in-car recordings captured using a 2D camera and 3D Time-of-Flight sensors. The dataset provides a basis for comparative analyses between synthesized signing avatar animations and recorded real signing interpreter videos, which enable future research into robust "in-the-wild" SLR models and domain adaptation. We describe in detail the use cases, the setup, the data collection protocol, and the metadata structure of the corpus. In total, we recorded a multimodal dataset exceeding 1.5 million frames, comprising the synchronized multimodal streams described above featuring Libras users across various in-car scenarios. The corpus is provided with gloss annotation of lexical signs and non-lexical sign language elements specially designed to support the training and evaluation of deep neural networks for constrained space recognition. In-vehicle signing offers a technically significant example of a constrained, occluded, and non-frontal environment. While recognizing the diverse communication strategies already employed by the Deaf community, identifying automotive-specific limitations provides a useful stepping stone for research into enhancing in-car accessibility and passenger quality of life.

How to Build Digital Humans? From Priors to Photorealistic Avatars

This state-of-the-art report provides an overview of controllable 3D human avatar creation. We describe current 3D avatar systems, which typically consist of three stages: (i) learning priors of human appearance and motion, (ii) creating a personalized avatar, and (iii) animating the avatar. To limit the scope, we focus on the prior learning and avatar creation stages. We define current avatar representations and introduce a taxonomy that categorizes existing work along multiple axes, including body regions and employed priors. We review methods for full-body and head avatars, as well as layered representations that decompose the body into components such as hands, hair, and garments. Finally, we outline common underlying principles, reference key literature for newcomers, and discuss open challenges and future research directions.

Conversational Human Audio-visual Talking Dialogue Generation

Large-scale dyadic interactive audio-visual dialogue (DIAD) datasets provide fundamental data resources for developing humanoid interactive virtual agents and digital humans. However, collecting such data is time-consuming, expensive, and ethically sensitive. To address this, we propose CHAT, a new dyadic interactive audio-visual dialogue generation (DIADG) framework that generates diverse, paired, and mutually responsive speech-face dialogue clips from a single textual prompt. CHAT unifies large language models and talking face models with interactive audio and facial behaviour refinement modules, enabling the generation of aligned dyadic dialogue clips with diverse contents and facial identities. Experiments show that CHAT outperforms existing related methods designed for similar tasks under both objective and subjective evaluations. Moreover, our synthesised CHAT-AVD-50k dataset serves as effective pre-training data for downstream interactive head generation, consistently improving PerFRDiff and ReactDiff on REACT 2024. CHAT offers a scalable alternative to the costly and ethically sensitive collection of real dyadic interaction data.

JacobianAvatar: Temporally Consistent Semi-rigid Avatar Reconstruction from a Monocular Video

Generating realistic human avatars in complex motions--such as clothing dynamics--requires modeling of global and local deformations which remains challenging in monocular settings. We address this problem by leveraging neural Jacobian fields (NJFs) for representing semi-rigid deformations. We train self-supervised neural networks for predicting Jacobian matrices that give the pose-dependent deformations, by solving a Poisson equation. However, monocular input presents several difficulties such as self-occluded regions and invisible surfaces. To address these issues, we introduce three key components: a constrained Poisson solver, signed distance-based Jacobian regularization, and a deformation-guided residual flow loss, which together suppress boundary artifacts, recover frequently occluded regions such as armpits and thighs, and enforce temporal consistency during motion. Experiments on benchmark and in-the-wild videos demonstrate that our method generates temporally stable and geometrically coherent avatars, outperforming state-of-the-art approaches.

FiCA: Feed-forward instant Gaussian Codec Avatars from a Single Portrait Image

We introduce FiCA, a Feed-forward, instant Gaussian Codec Avatar generation pipeline that creates lifelike avatars from a single portrait image. Generating a photorealistic and drivable avatar from just a single image is significantly challenging due to the limited visual information available to accurately infer the 3D appearance and geometry of human heads. To address this, we develop a novel system that combines human-centric vision foundation models with a diffusion model. This system is designed to fully exploit partial visual observations to generate lifelike human avatars. Our proposed diffusion model learns a generative mapping from these partial observations to complete and authentic 3D mesh reconstruction. Additionally, we introduce a feed-forward mesh refinement network that enhances the fidelity and identity preservation of the generated avatars, eliminating the need for person-specific test-time optimization. By leveraging a universal prior model that decodes a generated mesh into a set of 3D Gaussians, we generate a photorealistic 3D Gaussian avatar, capable of being driven with novel expressions in real-time. Our experiments demonstrate that the avatars generated by our feed-forward approach faithfully represent diverse identities and surpass the visual quality of avatars produced by recent competing methods.

InteractiveAvatar: Real-Time Streaming Video Generation for Consistent and Intent-Aware Avatars

Recent diffusion-based models have enabled realistic audio-driven avatar generation in real-time streaming. However, existing approaches struggle to maintain visual temporal consistency and fail to explicitly perceive user intent in complex interactive streaming scenarios. To address these challenges, we propose InteractiveAvatar, a real-time infinite-streaming video generation framework that supports visually consistent avatar video generation and intent-aware interactions. With autoregressive distillation, InteractiveAvatar achieves real-time str-eaming generation of human avatars over arbitrarily long durations. For visual consistency, we introduce a Long-Short Visual Memory (LSVM) mechanism that flexibly compresses historical visual information into compact tokens, preserving both short-range coherence and long-term consistency. To generate avatars with speeches and actions aligned with user intent, we propose a Reasoning-Reaction Module (RRM), which incorporates a State-Cycling strategy and a Cache-Switching mechanism. Extensive experimental results over diverse scenarios demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art visual consistency in long-duration generation, while enabling complex user-avatar interaction in real time.

Generative Relightable Avatars

We present Generative Relightable Avatars (GRA), a person-specific method for photorealistic free-view rendering and environment-map relighting of full-body humans. We postulate that modeling fine-grained appearance details is inherently a one-to-many problem that can benefit from a generative formulation. In contrast to fully regressive relightable avatar methods, GRA follows a hybrid approach that combines controllable, physics-grounded relighting with probabilistic refinement. Starting from a tracked animated mesh, we optimize material parameters in UV-space and render a coarse relit appearance under a target HDR environment map. Next, we refine the textures with a feed-forward model to capture pose-dependent texture dynamics and illumination effects beyond simplified reflectance assumptions. Finally, a fine-tuned video-to-video diffusion model transforms the physically grounded renderings into temporally coherent, high-detail videos while preserving 3D control, with an error-recycling strategy for generating long videos. Experimental evaluations demonstrate our method's improved perceptual quality over prior relightable avatar baselines. Project Page: https://vcai.mpi-inf.mpg.de/projects/GRA/

PIAvatar: Physically Interactive Avatars via Deformation Gradient Decoupling

3D human avatars have shown impressive visual fidelity driven by pose-conditioned models, yet they still lack the physical ability required for interactions with each other and environments. Although recent studies have made various attempts to incorporate physical characteristics into 3D avatars, they only exhibit limited physical deformations, often leading to constrained interaction behaviors. To resolve this issue, we present PIAvatar, a framework to simultaneously enable physically aware interactions between avatar-avatar and avatar-environment, and a non-rigid deformable human body simulation. In this work, our key insight is to decouple kinematic velocity from deformation gradient. When external forces act on avatars, the kinematic velocity induces stress which hinders the avatar's ability to achieve a desired pose. In addition, we integrate a skeletal framework within the avatar. It allows estimating its poses and real-time tracking in a closed form, even during non-rigid physical interactions. Our approach is implemented within a conventional Material Point Method framework to ensure physically consistent dynamics. We lastly evaluate the method on both human-object and human-human interaction scenarios to assess its behavior under diverse interaction settings.

Toward Accessible Psychotherapy Training Using AI-Driven Interactive Patient Avatars

Training psychotherapists in evidence-based interventions such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) requires repeated practice with meaningful feedback, yet opportunities for safe, standardized training are limited by ethical, logistical, and resource constraints. We introduce a system designed to support ACT-oriented psychotherapy training through spoken dialogue with an embodied virtual patient. The system uses large language models to simulate patient behavior conditioned on profiles derived from real therapy sessions and configurable clinical scenarios, while a separate automated evaluator provides turn-by-turn feedback on therapist responses based on established ACT fidelity criteria. Rather than aiming to replace supervision, the system is intended to support deliberate practice by enabling experimentation, reflection, and immediate feedback in low-risk settings. Expert evaluation with practicing psychologists confirmed high realism in patient behavior and demonstrated that immediate turn-by-turn ACT feedback increased therapists' awareness of intervention choices and enabled effective experimentation with alternative responses. Quantitative evaluation across 49 therapy transcripts identified GPT-4o-mini as the optimal feedback model, achieving the lowest mean absolute error (MAE = 6.12) in replicating human supervisor ACT fidelity ratings with statistically significant agreement. This work demonstrates the potential of fidelity-aware simulated patients as a scalable complement to psychotherapy training.

SpatialAvatar-0: High-Quality 4D Head Avatar with Multi-Stage Reconstruction

High-quality 4D head avatars from one or a few source portraits are central to telepresence, AR/VR, and digital-human interaction. 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has emerged as the dominant representation, with two complementary regimes (generalizable feed-forward predictors and per-subject refiners) maturing in parallel. However, existing feed-forward predictors are trained on a single dataset family with a hard-coded source count, inheriting the corresponding domain bias. Per-subject refiners require 300K--600K iterations and rely on adaptive densification that destroys upstream Gaussian layouts, preventing the two regimes from sharing a representation end-to-end. To bridge both regimes we propose SpatialAvatar-0 on a shared FLAME-mesh-bound Gaussian representation: a feed-forward generator with a parameter-free K-source mean-pool and a monocular-temporal to multi-view-spatial two-phase schedule that anchors against identity-prior collapse onto the smaller multi-view set. We further introduce a 10K-iter layout-preserving per-subject refinement loop that freezes the FLAME-binding and Gaussian count and replaces densification with a three-component anti-spike regularization. On VFHQ/HDTF cross-domain zero-shot we surpass the in-domain leader GAGAvatar by +1.5 dB PSNR despite never training on either test domain, and on the SplattingAvatar monocular benchmark we lead every reported metric, surpassing the 300K-iter GeoAvatar by +1.3 dB PSNR at up to 60x shorter per-subject schedule than common SOTA baselines. Avatar V: Scaling Video-Reference Avatar Video Generation

Generating avatar videos that are not merely visually similar to a target individual but behaviorally recognizable, faithfully reproducing their talking rhythm, gestural tendencies, and expression dynamics, remains an open challenge. Existing methods predominantly condition on single static images, which provide insufficient identity information and cannot capture dynamic motion traits, while standard pixel-level objectives underserve the perceptually critical facial regions that determine avatar fidelity. We present Avatar V, a production-scale framework that addresses these limitations through video-reference-conditioned identity modeling. Rather than compressing identity into fixed-size embeddings, the model conditions directly on the full token sequence of a reference video, learning to reproduce both static identity attributes (facial geometry, skin texture) and dynamic behavioral patterns (talking rhythm, micro-expressions) through attention over the reference context. We introduce Sparse Reference Attention, an asymmetric mechanism achieving linear-complexity conditioning on arbitrarily long references; a motion representation stream enabling closed-loop talking style transfer; and an identity-aware super-resolution refiner inheriting the full reference conditioning. These are supported by a data engine curating 100M+ training clips from 50M raw videos, and a five-stage training pipeline with flow matching pre-training, personality fine-tuning, two-phase distillation (>10x acceleration), and RLHF alignment, deployed across thousands of GPUs. Avatar V generates 1080p videos of unlimited duration, achieving state-of-the-art identity preservation, lip synchronization, and generation quality on our cross-scene benchmark, consistently outperforming leading systems including Seedance 2.0, Kling O3 Pro, Veo 3.1, and OmniHuman 1.5 in both automated metrics and human evaluation.

Cybernetic Android Avatar "Yui": System Integration, Field Deployment, and Evaluation

Remote communication technologies have become widely used; however, supporting a sense of shared physical space and conveying rich non-verbal cues remain challenging in many social interaction scenarios. This study presents "Yui," a full-body cybernetic android avatar designed to integrate operator-side immersive teleoperation with interlocutor-side human-like social signaling. Yui combines a 55-degrees of freedom full-body mechanism with a previously developed android head, facial expression and gaze control, upper-body and arm motion, hand actuation, and a mobile platform. It can be operated through either the immersive mode using a head mounted display-based interface or desktop mode using a webcam-based interface. We evaluated the system through three real-world deployments: a long-term public exhibition at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai, Japan; a remote educational exchange between elementary school students; and a public interaction study with general participants. During the Expo deployment, two units accumulated approximately 1131 h of operation, demonstrating both operational feasibility and maintenance challenges. In the public study, both operators and interlocutors reported positive impressions of co-presence and willingness to use the system. Interlocutors also rated the avatar positively in terms of human likeness and the transmission of emotions and intentions. The results indicate usability for general operators while suggesting room for improvement in precise controllability. These findings provide field-derived evidence and design implications for socially deployable full-body android avatars.

Resonant Minds: Closed-Loop Social Avatars with Theory of Mind

Creating lifelike digital humans with genuine social intelligence requires unifying cognitive reasoning and multimodal generation within a coherent framework. Current approaches treat these as separate tasks: Large Language Models excel at dialogue but lack embodied expression, while diffusion-based talking head models achieve visual fidelity but ignore social cognition. To bridge this gap, we propose a closed-loop dual-agent framework integrating perception, social reasoning, and expression into a continuous interaction cycle. The perception module analyzes partners' multimodal behaviors from video, while the social reasoning module infers hidden mental states through Theory of Mind and selects responses via an ensemble mechanism. The expression module then generates emotion-controllable videos that jointly synthesize speaker speech and facial expressions with listener reactive behaviors, capturing bidirectional dynamics absent in prior work. We further construct a hierarchical Persona-Scenario dataset with psychologically grounded personas and private social goals to support evaluation under information asymmetry. Experiments on this dataset demonstrate competitive or superior performance on both dialogue quality and video generation metrics. Notably, our method surpasses even the full-information Script mode on key dialogue quality dimensions, suggesting that explicit mental state inference under uncertainty can elicit more thoughtful dialogue than unrestricted information access. PHAF-Personalized Hand Avatars in a Flash

We present PHAF-Personalized Hand Avatars in a Flash, a personalized photo-realistic hand avatar which provides high quality multi-view renders from just two images (dorsal and palmar views).Unlike slow optimization-based techniques, PHAF generates fast personalized textures for real-time deployment on edge devices. Our approach combines semantic guided mesh alignment and densified texture extraction to transfer high-frequency details efficiently. A view-based inpainting network refines textures ensuring smooth, continuous appearance. PHAF generalizes to novel viewpoints and leverages a parametric hand model for accurate articulations, making it compatible with standard graphics engines. Experiments show it is comparable to existing methods in visual fidelity while drastically reducing texture generation time by 30 times, enabling practical AR/VR applications.

HumanNOVA: Photorealistic, Universal and Rapid 3D Human Avatar Modeling from a Single Image

In this paper, we present HumanNOVA, a photorealistic, universal, and rapid model for generating 3D human avatars from a single RGB image. Achieving both photorealism and generalization is challenging due to the scarcity of diverse, high-quality 3D human data. To address this, we build a scalable data generation pipeline that follows two strategies. The first one is to leverage existing rigged assets and animate them with extensive poses from daily life. The second strategy is to utilize existing multi-camera captures of humans and employ fitting to generate more diverse views for training. These two strategies enable us to scale up to 100k assets, significantly enhancing both the quantity and the diversity of data for robust model training. In terms of the architecture, HumanNOVA adopts a feed-forward, token-conditioned avatar modeling framework that allows fast inference in less than one second and requires no test-time optimization. Given an input image and an estimated simplified human mesh (SMPL) without detailed geometry or appearance, the model first encodes both inputs into compact token representations. These tokens then act as conditioning signals and are fused through cross-attention to construct a triplane-based 3D avatar representation. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmarks demonstrate the superiority of our approach, both quantitatively and qualitatively, as well as its robustness under diverse input image conditions. EgoRelight: Egocentric Human Capture and Illumination Recovery for Relightable and Photoreal Avatar Rendering

Mixed Reality (MR) headsets promise a future of immersive telepresence where virtual humans blend indistinguishably into real or virtual surroundings. Achieving this vision requires a method for capturing a user's motion, estimating appearance under novel lighting, and understanding the environment - all from the constrained viewpoint of a head-mounted display (HMD). Existing approaches treat these as isolated problems: they either focus on driving avatars with baked-in lighting or rely on studio setups for relighting. In this paper, we present EgoRelight, a holistic framework for egocentric telepresence that simultaneously captures full-body human performance, synthesizes photorealistic and relightable appearance, and estimates high dynamic range (HDR) environment maps from a single HMD. First, to ensure motion and surface reconstruction, we propose an egocentric perception module that leverages stereo down-facing cameras to extract dense depth maps, which serve as geometric control signals to drive a mesh-based avatar. Second, we introduce a novel neural appearance model that learns to synthesize view-dependent specular and view-independent diffuse shading separately. By employing a specialized ray-sampling strategy, our model generalizes to unseen illumination without relying on restrictive analytical BRDF priors. Third, we enable seamless avatar integration into the physical world via a test-time inverse rendering process, which recovers an HDR environment map by matching the pre-trained avatar's appearance to live egocentric camera observations. We demonstrate our system through a social telepresence application, where remote users are coherently relit according to their physical environment. Extensive experiments show that our components and the integrated system significantly outperform state-of-the-art baselines in geometric accuracy and rendering as well as relighting fidelity.

EchoAvatar: Real-time Generative Avatar Animation from Audio Streams

Real-time synthesis of high-fidelity 3D character motion from audio is a pivotal component for next-generation interactive avatars and virtual assistants. However, most existing approaches are limited to offline processing of complete audio sequences or are constrained to specific domains, rarely handling both speech and music effectively. In this paper, we introduce a novel framework designed to generate continuous, coherent full-body motion from streaming speech and music with low latency. Central to our approach is a unified streaming architecture capable of synthesizing continuous motion from incremental audio inputs. We employ a robust training strategy that enforces strong audio dependency, allowing the model to seamlessly generalize across conversational speech and rhythmic music without requiring explicit domain labels or mode switching. Additionally, we explored Reinforcement Learning to refine the quality of online generation. Furthermore, we bridge reactive animation with intent-driven behavior via a tool-call interface that allows upstream Large Language Models to inject explicit semantic control. By combining this controllability with stream audio-driven synthesis, our framework serves as a plug-and-play solution for transforming voice agents into interactive humanoid avatars. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms state-of-the-art realtime baselines in motion quality and synchronization while maintaining the flexibility required for live deployment. Latent Dynamics for Full Body Avatar Animation

Pose-driven full-body avatars built on neural rendering produce high-quality novel views of a captured subject. Yet loose clothing and other dynamic elements deform in ways pose alone cannot explain: the same pose can correspond to many different states, because their motion depends on history, inertia, and contact. Explicit simulation and layered-garment methods can model such dynamics, but they require either a dedicated garment template, which raw multi-view capture does not naturally provide, or a test-time physics simulator with non-trivial runtime cost. A parallel line of work learns data-driven clothing avatars that avoid explicit garment layers. These methods add an auxiliary latent for variation beyond pose; at inference, they fix it, regress it from pose, or retrieve it from training data, without explicitly modeling how the latent evolves with its own dynamics. Additionally, even in everyday motion with loose clothing, existing architectures often struggle to capture fine-grained detail, producing blurry renderings and temporal artifacts. We augment a pose-conditioned 3D Gaussian avatar with a transformer-based decoder and a dynamics residual latent that captures temporal appearance and geometry variation beyond the driving signals. At inference, a learned latent dynamics model evolves the residual latent from a short pose history and the previous latent state. The model decomposes each update into driving, restoring, and dissipative forces, producing temporally coherent, history-dependent rollouts with negligible added cost. Different initial conditions yield diverse yet plausible motion trajectories, and the force decomposition exposes controls such as stiffness. Across nine captured sequences of everyday motion with diverse loose garments, quantitative metrics and a perceptual user study show improved animation quality over recent data-driven baselines.

DAMA: Disentangled Body-Anchored Gaussians for Controllable Multi-Layered Avatars

Existing 3D clothed avatar reconstruction methods achieve high visual fidelity but ignore geometric structure and physical plausibility. They either model clothed humans as a single deformable surface or attempt garment disentanglement without enforcing geometric constraints, resulting in ambiguous garment boundaries and no control over stacking or layer ordering. To address these limitations, we introduce DAMA (Disentangled body-Anchored Gaussians for Controllable Multi-layered Avatars), a 3D avatar reconstruction method that produces physically plausible clothed avatars through a dedicated representation and reconstruction method. At the representation level, we bind Gaussians to SMPL-X faces using barycentric in-plane coordinates and a positive normal offset. Based on this parameterization, the reconstruction method lifts 2D segmentations to body-anchored Gaussians, refines layers using topology-guided correction, and jointly optimizes geometry and appearance. DAMA is the first Gaussian avatar reconstruction method from multi-view images to achieve physically plausible layering, clean garment separation, and explicit stacking control. On the full 4D-DRESS dataset (82 scans), it achieves state-of-the-art performance in geometry reconstruction, garment separation, penetration rate, and penetration depth. The representation further supports user-defined garment reordering and fast conversion of body-conforming garments to simulation-ready meshes. Project Page: https://danieleskandar.github.io/dama/

High-Fidelity Mobile Avatars with Pruned Local Blendshapes

We propose a method to reconstruct high-fidelity human avatars from multi-view video that can run on mobile devices. Many works can model high-quality Gaussian-based full-body avatars from multi-view video. However, these methods require heavy computation to obtain pose-dependent appearance, making deployment on mobile devices very difficult. Recent methods distill from pretrained models and model pose-dependent nonlinear Gaussian attributes by linearly combining global pose features with blendshapes. Although they can run on mobile devices, they suffer some loss of detail. We observe that nearby Gaussians are often highly correlated within a local region of the body, and can be linearly modeled with less error. Therefore, we use local linear blendshapes in small body parts to capture global nonlinear changes of Gaussian attributes. To further reduce computation and model size, we propose to remove blendshapes for Gaussians whose attributes change little, yielding a minimal blendshape representation. Our method is an end-to-end training method without a pretrained model. To make it run on multiple devices, we implement our method using WebGPU. Experiments show that our method can render high-quality human avatars with better details, and can reach 120 FPS at 2K resolution on mobile devices.

Tstars-Tryon 1.0: Robust and Realistic Virtual Try-On for Diverse Fashion Items

Recent advances in image generation and editing have opened new opportunities for virtual try-on. However, existing methods still struggle to meet complex real-world demands. We present Tstars-Tryon 1.0, a commercial-scale virtual try-on system that is robust, realistic, versatile, and highly efficient. First, our system maintains a high success rate across challenging cases like extreme poses, severe illumination variations, motion blur, and other in-the-wild conditions. Second, it delivers highly photorealistic results with fine-grained details, faithfully preserving garment texture, material properties, and structural characteristics, while largely avoiding common AI-generated artifacts. Third, beyond apparel try-on, our model supports flexible multi-image composition (up to 6 reference images) across 8 fashion categories, with coordinated control over person identity and background. Fourth, to overcome the latency bottlenecks of commercial deployment, our system is heavily optimized for inference speed, delivering near real-time generation for a seamless user experience. These capabilities are enabled by an integrated system design spanning end-to-end model architecture, a scalable data engine, robust infrastructure, and a multi-stage training paradigm. Extensive evaluation and large-scale product deployment demonstrate that Tstars-Tryon1.0 achieves leading overall performance. To support future research, we also release a comprehensive benchmark. The model has been deployed at an industrial scale on the Taobao App, serving millions of users with tens of millions of requests.

ATRIE: Adaptive Tuning for Robust Inference and Emotion in Persona-Driven Speech Synthesis

High-fidelity character voice synthesis is a cornerstone of immersive multimedia applications, particularly for interacting with anime avatars and digital humans. However, existing systems struggle to maintain consistent persona traits across diverse emotional contexts. To bridge this gap, we present ATRIE, a unified framework utilizing a Persona-Prosody Dual-Track (P2-DT) architecture. Our system disentangles generation into a static Timbre Track (via Scalar Quantization) and a dynamic Prosody Track (via Hierarchical Flow-Matching), distilled from a 14B LLM teacher. This design enables robust identity preservation (Zero-Shot Speaker Verification EER: 0.04) and rich emotional expression. Evaluated on our extended AnimeTTS-Bench (50 characters), ATRIE achieves state-of-the-art performance in both generation and cross-modal retrieval (mAP: 0.75), establishing a new paradigm for persona-driven multimedia content creation.

MUA: Mobile Ultra-detailed Animatable Avatars

Building photorealistic, animatable full-body digital humans remains a longstanding challenge in computer graphics and vision. Recent advances in animatable avatar modeling have largely progressed along two directions: improving the fidelity of dynamic geometry and appearance, or reducing computational complexity to enable deployment on resource-constrained platforms, e.g., VR headsets. However, existing approaches fail to achieve both goals simultaneously: Ultra-high-fidelity avatars typically require substantial computation on server-class GPUs, whereas lightweight avatars often suffer from limited surface dynamics, reduced appearance details, and noticeable artifacts. To bridge this gap, we propose a novel animatable avatar representation, termed Wavelet-guided Multi-level Spatial Factorized Blendshapes, and a corresponding distillation pipeline that transfers motion-aware clothing dynamics and fine-grained appearance details from a pre-trained ultra-high-quality avatar model into a compact, efficient representation. By coupling multi-level wavelet spectral decomposition with low-rank structural factorization in texture space, our method achieves up to 2000X lower computational cost and a 10X smaller model size than the original high-quality teacher avatar model, while preserving visually plausible dynamics and appearance details closely resemble those of the teacher model. Extensive comparisons with state-of-the-art methods show that our approach significantly outperforms existing avatar approaches designed for mobile settings and achieves comparable or superior rendering quality to most approaches that can only run on servers. Importantly, our representation substantially improves the practicality of high-fidelity avatars for immersive applications, achieving over 180 FPS on a desktop PC and real-time native on-device performance at 24 FPS on a standalone Meta Quest 3.

EmbodiedHead: Real-Time Listening and Speaking Avatar for Conversational Agents

We present EmbodiedHead, a speech-driven talking-head framework that equips LLMs with real-time visual avatars for conversation. A practical embodied avatar must achieve real-time generation, unified listening-speaking behavior, and high rendered visual quality simultaneously. Our framework couples the first Rectified-Flow Diffusion Transformer (DiT) for this task with a differentiable renderer, enabling diverse, high-fidelity generation in as few as four sampling steps. Prior listening-speaking methods rely on dual-stream audio, introducing an interlocutor look-ahead dependency incompatible with causal user--LLM interaction. We instead adopt a single-stream interface with explicit per-frame listening-speaking state conditioning and a Streaming Audio Scheduler, suppressing spurious mouth motion during listening while enabling seamless turn-taking. A two-stage training scheme of coefficient-space pretraining and joint image-domain refinement further closes the gap between motion-level supervision and rendered quality. Extensive experiments demonstrate state-of-the-art visual quality and motion fidelity in both speaking and listening scenarios.

One-Shot Feed-Forward 360^{\circ} Animatable Avatar via Inpainted UV-Space Gaussian Modeling

Building one-shot 3D animatable head avatars is an important yet challenging problem. Existing methods generally collapse under large camera pose variations, compromising the realism of 3D avatars. In this work, we propose a new framework to tackle the novel setting of one-shot 3D full-head animatable avatar reconstruction in a single forward pass via inpainted UV-space Gaussian modeling, enabling 360^\circ rendering views and real-time animation. To facilitate efficient animation control, we model 3D head avatars with Gaussian primitives embedded on the surface of a parametric face model within the UV space, and project the input image features to the UV space, resulting in incomplete local UV feature maps. To inpaint the missing regions, we obtain knowledge of full-head geometry and textures from rich 3D full-head priors within a pretrained 3D generative adversarial network (GAN) for global full-head feature extraction and multi-view supervision. Specifically, to enhance the fidelity of 3D reconstruction during inpainting, we take advantage of the symmetric nature of the UV space and human faces to fuse incomplete yet detailed local UV feature maps with the extracted global full-head textures, resulting in inpainted UV Gaussian attribute maps for avatar modeling. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method is the first to achieve high-quality 3D full-head animatable avatar modeling, significantly improving side and back views while outperforming state-of-the-art animation approaches, thereby improving the realism of 3D animatable avatars.

Pro-Pose: Unpaired Full-Body Portrait Synthesis via Canonical UV Maps

Photographs of people taken by professional photographers typically present the person in beautiful lighting, with an interesting pose, and flattering quality. This is unlike common photos people take of themselves in uncontrolled conditions. In this paper, we explore how to canonicalize a person's 'in-the-wild' photograph into a controllable, high-fidelity avatar -- reposed in a simple environment with standardized minimal clothing. A key challenge is preserving the person's unique whole-body identity, facial features, and body shape while stripping away the complex occlusions of their original garments. While a large paired dataset of the same person in varied clothing and poses would simplify this, such data does not exist. To that end, we propose two key insights: 1) Our method transforms the input photo into a canonical full-body UV space, which we couple with a novel reposing methodology to model occlusions and synthesize novel views. Operating in UV space allows us to decouple pose from appearance and leverage massive unpaired datasets. 2) We personalize the output photo via multi-image finetuning to ensure robust identity preservation under extreme pose changes. Our approach yields high-quality, reposed portraits that achieve strong quantitative performance on real-world imagery, providing an ideal, clean biometric canvas that significantly improves the fidelity of downstream applications like Virtual Try-On (VTO).

Leveraging Avatar Fingerprinting: A Multi-Generator Photorealistic Talking-Head Public Database and Benchmark

Recent advances in photorealistic avatar generation have enabled highly realistic talking-head avatars, raising security concerns regarding identity impersonation in AI-mediated communication. To advance in this challenging problem, the task of avatar fingerprinting aims to determine whether two avatar videos are driven by the same human operator or not. However, current public databases in the literature are scarce and based solely on old-fashioned talking-head avatar generators, not representing realistic scenarios for the current task of avatar fingerprinting. To overcome this situation, the present article introduces AVAPrintDB, a new publicly available multi-generator talking-head avatar database for avatar fingerprinting. AVAPrintDB is constructed from two audiovisual corpora and three state-of-the-art avatar generators (GAGAvatar, LivePortrait, HunyuanPortrait), representing different synthesis paradigms, and includes both self- and cross-reenactments to simulate legitimate usage and impersonation scenarios. Building on this database, we also define a standardized and reproducible benchmark for avatar fingerprinting, considering public state-of-the-art avatar fingerprinting systems and exploring novel methods based on Foundation Models (DINOv2 and CLIP). Also, we conduct a comprehensive analysis under generator and dataset shift. Our results show that, while identity-related motion cues persist across synthetic avatars, current avatar fingerprinting systems remain highly sensitive to changes in the synthesis pipeline and source domain. The AVAPrintDB, benchmark protocols, and avatar fingerprinting systems are publicly available to facilitate reproducible research.
