An Asynchronous Two-Speed Kalman Filter for Real-Time UUV Cooperative Navigation Under Acoustic Delays

In Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-denied underwater environments, individual unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) suffer from unbounded dead-reckoning drift, making collaborative navigation (CN) crucial for accurate state estimation. However, the severe communication delay inherent in underwater acoustic channels poses serious challenges to real-time state estimation. Traditional filters, such as Extended Kalman Filters (EKFs) or Unscented Kalman Filters (UKFs), usually block the main control loop while waiting for delayed data, or effectively discard Out-of-Sequence Measurements (OOSMs), resulting in serious drift. To address this, we propose an Asynchronous Two-Speed Kalman Filter (TSKF) enhanced by a novel projection mechanism, which we term Variational History Distillation (VHD). The proposed architecture decouples the estimation process into two parallel threads: a fast-rate thread that utilizes Gaussian Process (GP) compensated dead reckoning to guarantee high-frequency real-time control, and a slow-rate thread dedicated to processing asynchronously delayed collaborative information. By introducing a Finite-Length Circular State Buffer (FLCSB), the algorithm applies delayed measurements to their corresponding historical states, and utilizes a VHD-based projection to fast-forward the correction to the current time without computationally heavy recalculations. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed TSKF maintains a trajectory error comparable to computationally intensive batch-optimization methods under severe delays (up to 30,s). Executing in sub-millisecond time, it significantly outperforms standard EKF/UKF. The results demonstrate an effective control, communication, and computing (3C) co-design that significantly enhances the resilience of autonomous marine automation systems.

Orientation Matters: Learning Radiation Patterns of Multi-Rotor UAVs In-Flight to Enhance Communication Availability Modeling

The paper presents an approach for learning antenna Radiation Patterns (RPs) of a pair of heterogeneous quadrotor Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) by calibration flight data. RPs are modeled either as a Spherical Harmonics series or as a weighted average over inducing samples. Linear regression of polynomial coefficients enables decoupling of independent UAVs' RPs from the observed joint gain. A synchronized calibration trajectory provides training and testing samples in an obstacle-free anechoic altitude. Evaluation on a real-world dataset demonstrates the feasibility of learning both radiation patterns, achieving 4.56 dB RMS extrapolation error. The proposed RP learning and decoupling can be exploited in rapid recalibration upon payload changes, thereby enabling precise autonomous path planning and swarm control in real-world applications where setup changes are expected.

SpatialFly: Implicit 3D Prior-Guided Visual Reparameterization for Continuous UAV Vision-and-Language Navigation

UAVs play an important role in applications such as autonomous exploration, disaster response, and infrastructure inspection. However, UAV VLN in complex 3D environments remains challenging. A key difficulty is the structural representation mismatch between 2D visual perception and the 3D trajectory decision space, which limits spatial reasoning. To this end, we propose SpatialFly, a geometry-guided spatial representation framework for UAV VLN. Operating on RGB observations without explicit 3D reconstruction, SpatialFly introduces a geometry-guided 2D adaptive representation mechanism. Specifically, the geometric prior injection module injects global structural cues into 2D semantic tokens to provide scene-level geometric guidance. The geometry-aware reparameterization module then uses geometry-conditioned cross-modal attention and gated residual fusion to adaptively reparameterize the visual tokens. Experimental results show that SpatialFly consistently outperforms state-of-the-art UAV VLN baselines across both seen and unseen environments, reducing NE by 4.03m and improving SR by 1.27% over the strongest baseline on the unseen Full split. Additional trajectory-level analysis shows that SpatialFly produces trajectories with better path alignment and smoother, more stable motion.

HUGE-Bench: A Benchmark for High-Level UAV Vision-Language-Action Tasks

Existing UAV vision-language navigation (VLN) benchmarks have enabled language-guided flight, but they largely focus on long, step-wise route descriptions with goal-centric evaluation, making them less diagnostic for real operations where brief, high-level commands must be grounded into safe multi-stage behaviors. We present HUGE-Bench, a benchmark for High-Level UAV Vision-Language-Action (HL-VLA) tasks that tests whether an agent can interpret concise language and execute complex, process-oriented trajectories with safety awareness. HUGE-Bench comprises 4 real-world digital twin scenes, 8 high-level tasks, and 2.56M meters of trajectories, and is built on an aligned 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS)-Mesh representation that combines photorealistic rendering with collision-capable geometry for scalable generation and collision-aware evaluation. We introduce process-oriented and collision-aware metrics to assess process fidelity, terminal accuracy, and safety. Experiments on representative state-of-the-art VLA models reveal significant gaps in high-level semantic completion and safe execution, highlighting HUGE-Bench as a diagnostic testbed for high-level UAV autonomy.

SegFly: A Dataset and 2D-3D-2D Paradigm for Aerial RGB-Thermal Semantic Segmentation at Scale

Semantic segmentation for uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) is fundamental for aerial scene understanding, yet existing RGB and RGB-T datasets remain limited in scale, diversity, and annotation efficiency due to the high cost of manual labeling and the difficulties of accurate RGB-T alignment on off-the-shelf UAVs. To address these challenges, we propose a scalable geometry-driven 2D-3D-2D paradigm that leverages multi-view redundancy in high-overlap aerial imagery to automatically propagate labels from a small subset of manually annotated RGB images to both RGB and thermal modalities within a unified framework. By lifting less than 3% of RGB images into a semantic 3D point cloud and rendering it into all views, our approach enables dense pseudo ground-truth generation across large image collections, automatically producing 97% of RGB labels and 100% of thermal labels while achieving 91% and 88% annotation accuracy without any 2D manual refinement. We further extend this 2D-3D-2D paradigm to cross-modal image registration, using 3D geometry as an intermediate alignment space to obtain fully automatic, strong pixel-level RGB-T alignment with 87% registration accuracy and no hardware-level synchronization. Applying our framework to existing geo-referenced aerial imagery, we construct SegFly, a large-scale benchmark with over 20,000 high-resolution RGB images and more than 15,000 geometrically aligned RGB-T pairs spanning diverse urban, industrial, and rural environments across multiple altitudes and seasons. On SegFly, we establish the Firefly baseline for RGB and thermal semantic segmentation and show that both conventional architectures and vision foundation models benefit substantially from SegFly supervision, highlighting the potential of geometry-driven 2D-3D-2D pipelines for scalable multi-modal aerial scene understanding. EAAE: Energy-Aware Autonomous Exploration for UAVs in Unknown 3D Environments

Battery-powered multirotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can rapidly map unknown environments, but mission performance is often limited by energy rather than geometry alone. Standard exploration policies that optimise for coverage or time can therefore waste energy through manoeuvre-heavy trajectories. In this paper, we address energy-aware autonomous 3D exploration for multirotor UAVs in initially unknown environments. We propose Energy-Aware Autonomous Exploration (EAAE), a modular frontier-based framework that makes energy an explicit decision variable during frontier selection. EAAE clusters frontiers into view-consistent regions, plans dynamically feasible candidate trajectories to the most informative clusters, and predicts their execution energy using an offline power estimation loop. The next target is then selected by minimising predicted trajectory energy while preserving exploration progress through a dual-layer planning architecture for safe execution. We evaluate EAAE in a full exploration pipeline with a rotor-speed-based power model across simulated 3D environments of increasing complexity. Compared to representative distance-based and information gain-based frontier baselines, EAAE consistently reduces total energy consumption while maintaining competitive exploration time and comparable map quality, providing a practical drop-in energy-aware layer for frontier exploration.

AeroGrab: A Unified Framework for Aerial Grasping in Cluttered Environments

Reliable aerial grasping in cluttered environments remains challenging due to occlusions and collision risks. Existing aerial manipulation pipelines largely rely on centroid-based grasping and lack integration between the grasp pose generation models, active exploration, and language-level task specification, resulting in the absence of a complete end-to-end system. In this work, we present an integrated pipeline for reliable aerial grasping in cluttered environments. Given a scene and a language instruction, the system identifies the target object and actively explores it to gain better views of the object. During exploration, a grasp generation network predicts multiple 6-DoF grasp candidates for each view. Each candidate is evaluated using a collision-aware feasibility framework, and the overall best grasp is selected and executed using standard trajectory generation and control methods. Experiments in cluttered real-world scenarios demonstrate robust and reliable grasp execution, highlighting the effectiveness of combining active perception with feasibility-aware grasp selection for aerial manipulation.

AeroPlace-Flow: Language-Grounded Object Placement for Aerial Manipulators via Visual Foresight and Object Flow

Precise object placement remains underexplored in aerial manipulation, where most systems rely on predefined target coordinates and focus primarily on grasping and control. Specifying exact placement poses, however, is cumbersome in real-world settings, where users naturally communicate goals through language. In this work, we present AeroPlace-Flow, a training-free framework for language-grounded aerial object placement that unifies visual foresight with explicit 3D geometric reasoning and object flow. Given RGB-D observations of the object and the placement scene, along with a natural language instruction, AeroPlace-Flow first synthesizes a task-complete goal image using image editing models. The imagined configuration is then grounded into metric 3D space through depth alignment and object-centric reasoning, enabling the inference of a collision-aware object flow that transports the grasped object to a language and contact-consistent placement configuration. The resulting motion is executed via standard trajectory tracking for an aerial manipulator. AeroPlace-Flow produces executable placement targets without requiring predefined poses or task-specific training. We validate our approach through extensive simulation and real-world experiments, demonstrating reliable language-conditioned placement across diverse aerial scenarios with an average success rate of 75% on hardware.

CollabOD: Collaborative Multi-Backbone with Cross-scale Vision for UAV Small Object Detection

Small object detection in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) imagery is challenging because high-altitude viewpoints produce severe scale variation, weak structural cues, and tight computational budgets. Existing lightweight detectors usually fuse multi-scale features after downsampling, where boundary and texture details have already been attenuated and heterogeneous feature streams may be spatially misaligned. To address these issues, we propose CollabOD, a collaborative detection framework that preserves structural details, aligns cross-path features before fusion, and keeps the detection head lightweight at inference time. CollabOD combines a Dual-Path Fusion Stem, a Dense Aggregation Block, a Bilateral Reweighting Module, and a Unified Detail-Aware Head to strengthen localization-oriented representation while limiting extra computation. On VisDrone, CollabOD obtains 52.4 AP50, 30.8 AP75, and 29.9 AP50:95 with 65.5 GFLOPs; on UAVDT it reaches 31.2 AP50 and 17.4 AP50:95; and on AI-TOD it reaches 45.4 AP50 and 20.0 AP50:95 at 137 FPS. FC-Vision: Real-Time Visibility-Aware Replanning for Occlusion-Free Aerial Target Structure Scanning in Unknown Environments

Autonomous aerial scanning of target structures is crucial for practical applications, requiring online adaptation to unknown obstacles during flight. Existing methods largely emphasize collision avoidance and efficiency, but overlook occlusion-induced visibility degradation, severely compromising scanning quality. This study proposes FC-Vision, an on-the-fly visibility-aware replanning framework that proactively and safely prevents target occlusions while preserving full target coverage and efficiency of the original plan. Our approach explicitly enforces dense surface-visibility constraints to regularize replanning behavior in real-time via an efficient two-level decomposition: occlusion-free viewpoint repair that maintains coverage with minimal deviation from the nominal scan, followed by segment-wise clean-sensing connection in 5-DoF space. A plug-in integration strategy is also presented to seamlessly interface \textbf{FC-Vision} with existing UAV scanning systems without architectural changes. Comprehensive simulation and real-world evaluations show that \textbf{FC-Vision} consistently improves scanning quality under unexpected occluders, delivering a maximum coverage gain of 55.32% and a 73.17% reduction in the occlusion ratio, while achieving real-time performance with a moderate increase in flight time. The code has been released at https://github.com/FC-Family/FC-Vision.

High-Speed Vision-Based Flight in Clutter with Safety-Shielded Reinforcement Learning

Quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly deployed in complex missions that demand reliable autonomous navigation and robust obstacle avoidance. However, traditional modular pipelines often incur cumulative latency, whereas purely reinforcement learning (RL) approaches typically provide limited formal safety guarantees. To bridge this gap, we propose an end-to-end RL framework augmented with model-based safety mechanisms. We incorporate physical priors in both training and deployment. During training, we design a physics-informed reward structure that provides global navigational guidance. During deployment, we integrate a real-time safety filter that projects the policy outputs onto a provably safe set to enforce strict collision-avoidance constraints. This hybrid architecture reconciles high-speed flight with robust safety assurances. Benchmark evaluations demonstrate that our method outperforms both traditional planners and recent end-to-end obstacle avoidance approaches based on differentiable physics. Extensive experiments demonstrate strong generalization, enabling reliable high-speed navigation in dense clutter and challenging outdoor forest environments at velocities up to 7.5 m/s}.

SPOT: Spatio-Temporal Obstacle-free Trajectory Planning for UAVs in Unknown Dynamic Environments

We address the problem of reactive motion planning for quadrotors operating in unknown environments with dynamic obstacles. Our approach leverages a 4-dimensional spatio-temporal planner, integrated with vision-based Safe Flight Corridor (SFC) generation and trajectory optimization. Unlike prior methods that rely on map fusion, our framework is mapless, enabling collision avoidance directly from perception while reducing computational overhead. Dynamic obstacles are detected and tracked using a vision-based object segmentation and tracking pipeline, allowing robust classification of static versus dynamic elements in the scene. To further enhance robustness, we introduce a backup planning module that reactively avoids dynamic obstacles when no direct path to the goal is available, mitigating the risk of collisions during deadlock situations. We validate our method extensively in both simulation and real-world hardware experiments, and benchmark it against state-of-the-art approaches, showing significant advantages for reactive UAV navigation in dynamic, unknown environments.

Spatiotemporal Continual Federated Learning for Agentic Multi-UAV Edge Networks: Mitigating Catastrophic Forgetting

This paper addresses multi-objective conflicts and catastrophic forgetting in uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) networks across dynamic spatiotemporal environments. Conventional multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) algorithms suffer from severe policy degradation during sequential task transitions. We propose a spatiotemporal continual federated learning (SCFL) framework driven by the group-decoupled multi-agent proximal policy optimization (G-MAPPO) algorithm. SCFL incorporates a three-stage geometric alignment mechanism: it resolves local gradient conflicts via group-decoupled policy optimization (GDPO), mitigates spatial Non-Independent and Identically Distributed (non-IID) client drift through adaptive cosine aggregation, and suppresses inter-task interference via global temporal orthogonal projection without raw experience replay. Evaluations show that SCFL achieves superior robustness over federated baselines, maintaining spatial service reliability above 0.95 and a load balancing index of approximately 0.95 during non-stationary transitions. A longitudinal self-degradation analysis further shows that SCFL preserves historical knowledge with near-zero performance variation in spatial reliability and QoS under moderate loads from 40 to 120 users, while revealing its operating boundary under extreme congestion with 140 users due to hard projection constraints. The framework provides a scalable, communication-efficient approach for autonomous aerial network orchestration.

AION: Aerial Indoor Object-Goal Navigation Using Dual-Policy Reinforcement Learning

Object-Goal Navigation (ObjectNav) requires an agent to autonomously explore an unknown environment and navigate toward target objects specified by a semantic label. While prior work has primarily studied zero-shot ObjectNav under 2D locomotion, extending it to aerial platforms with 3D locomotion capability remains underexplored. Aerial robots offer superior maneuverability and search efficiency, but also introduce new challenges in spatial perception, dynamic control, and safety assurance. In this paper, we propose AION for vision-based aerial ObjectNav without relying on external localization or global maps. AION is an end-to-end dual-policy reinforcement learning (RL) framework that decouples exploration and goal-reaching behaviors into two specialized policies. We evaluate AION on the AI2-THOR benchmark and further assess its real-time performance in IsaacSim using high-fidelity drone models. Experimental results show that AION achieves superior performance across comprehensive evaluation metrics in exploration, navigation efficiency, and safety. We present a large-scale unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based RGB and multispectral image dataset collected over paddy fields in the Vijayawada region, Andhra Pradesh, India, covering nursery to harvesting stages. We used a 20-megapixel RGB camera and a 5-megapixel four-band multispectral camera capturing red, green, red-edge, and near-infrared bands. Standardised operating procedure (SOP) and checklists were developed to ensure repeatable data acquisition. Our dataset comprises of 42,430 raw images (415 GB) captured over 5 acres with 1 cm/pixel ground sampling distance (GSD) with associated metadata such as GPS coordinates, flight altitude, and environmental conditions. Captured images were validated using Pix4D Fields to generate orthomosaic maps and vegetation index maps, such as normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI) and normalised difference red-edge (NDRE) index. Our dataset is one of the few datasets that provide high-resolution images with rich metadata that cover all growth stages of Indian paddy crops. The dataset is available on IEEE DataPort with DOI, . It can support studies on targeted spraying, disease analysis, and yield estimation.

YolovN-CBi: A Lightweight and Efficient Architecture for Real-Time Detection of Small UAVs

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, commonly known as, drones pose increasing risks in civilian and defense settings, demanding accurate and real-time drone detection systems. However, detecting drones is challenging because of their small size, rapid movement, and low visual contrast. A modified architecture of YolovN called the YolovN-CBi is proposed that incorporates the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) and the Bidirectional Feature Pyramid Network (BiFPN) to improve sensitivity to small object detections. A curated training dataset consisting of 28K images is created with various flying objects and a local test dataset is collected with 2500 images consisting of very small drone objects. The proposed architecture is evaluated on four benchmark datasets, along with the local test dataset. The baseline Yolov5 and the proposed Yolov5-CBi architecture outperform newer Yolo versions, including Yolov8 and Yolov12, in the speed-accuracy trade-off for small object detection. Four other variants of the proposed CBi architecture are also proposed and evaluated, which vary in the placement and usage of CBAM and BiFPN. These variants are further distilled using knowledge distillation techniques for edge deployment, using a Yolov5m-CBi teacher and a Yolov5n-CBi student. The distilled model achieved a mA@P0.5:0.9 of 0.6573, representing a 6.51% improvement over the teacher's score of 0.6171, highlighting the effectiveness of the distillation process. The distilled model is 82.9% faster than the baseline model, making it more suitable for real-time drone detection. These findings highlight the effectiveness of the proposed CBi architecture, together with the distilled lightweight models in advancing efficient and accurate real-time detection of small UAVs.

AERMANI-VLM: Structured Prompting and Reasoning for Aerial Manipulation with Vision Language Models

The rapid progress of vision--language models (VLMs) has sparked growing interest in robotic control, where natural language can express the operation goals while visual feedback links perception to action. However, directly deploying VLM-driven policies on aerial manipulators remains unsafe and unreliable since the generated actions are often inconsistent, hallucination-prone, and dynamically infeasible for flight. In this work, we present AERMANI-VLM, the first framework to adapt pretrained VLMs for aerial manipulation by separating high-level reasoning from low-level control, without any task-specific fine-tuning. Our framework encodes natural language instructions, task context, and safety constraints into a structured prompt that guides the model to generate a step-by-step reasoning trace in natural language. This reasoning output is used to select from a predefined library of discrete, flight-safe skills, ensuring interpretable and temporally consistent execution. By decoupling symbolic reasoning from physical action, AERMANI-VLM mitigates hallucinated commands and prevents unsafe behavior, enabling robust task completion. We validate the framework in both simulation and hardware on diverse multi-step pick-and-place tasks, demonstrating strong generalization to previously unseen commands, objects, and environments.

TCMA: Text-Conditioned Multi-granularity Alignment for Drone Cross-Modal Text-Video Retrieval

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become powerful platforms for real-time, high-resolution data collection, producing massive volumes of aerial videos. Efficient retrieval of relevant content from these videos is crucial for applications in urban management, emergency response, security, and disaster relief. While text-video retrieval has advanced in natural video domains, the UAV domain remains underexplored due to limitations in existing datasets, such as coarse and redundant captions. Thus, in this work, we construct the Drone Video-Text Match Dataset (DVTMD), which contains 2,864 videos and 14,320 fine-grained, semantically diverse captions. The annotations capture multiple complementary aspects, including human actions, objects, background settings, environmental conditions, and visual style, thereby enhancing text-video correspondence and reducing redundancy. Building on this dataset, we propose the Text-Conditioned Multi-granularity Alignment (TCMA) framework, which integrates global video-sentence alignment, sentence-guided frame aggregation, and word-guided patch alignment. To further refine local alignment, we design a Word and Patch Selection module that filters irrelevant content, as well as a Text-Adaptive Dynamic Temperature Mechanism that adapts attention sharpness to text type. Extensive experiments on DVTMD and CapERA establish the first complete benchmark for drone text-video retrieval. Our TCMA achieves state-of-the-art performance, including 45.5% R@1 in text-to-video and 42.8% R@1 in video-to-text retrieval, demonstrating the effectiveness of our dataset and method. The code and dataset will be released.

Real-Time Maneuver Planning for Fixed-Wing UAVs in Unsteady Flows Using a GPU-Accelerated Vortex Particle Model

Unsteady aerodynamic effects can have a profound impact on aerial vehicle flight performance, especially during agile maneuvers and in complex aerodynamic environments. In this paper, we present a real-time planning and control approach capable of reasoning about unsteady aerodynamics. Our approach relies on a lightweight GPU-accelerated vortex particle model (VPM) and a sampling-based policy optimization strategy capable of leveraging the VPM for predictive reasoning. Through hardware experiments, we show that by replanning with our unsteady aerodynamics model, we can improve the performance of a post-stall fixed-wing perching maneuver in the presence of unsteady environmental flow disturbances.

Neural 3D Object Reconstruction with Small-Scale Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Miniaturized Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) can access indoor and hard-to-reach spaces, but severe constraints on payload and autonomy have limited their use in demanding tasks such as high-quality 3D reconstruction. We introduce a novel system architecture that enables autonomous, high-fidelity 3D scanning of static objects with sub-100 gram UAVs. Our core innovation lies in a closed-loop active viewpoint selection framework specifically tailored for ultra-constrained micro-platforms, advancing beyond standard static or offline active reconstruction methods. The framework establishes a dual-reconstruction pipeline that creates a real-time (RT) feedback loop between data capture and flight control. A near-RT process uses Structure-from-Motion (SfM) to generate an instantaneous point-cloud of the object. A systematic trajectory adaptation algorithm analyzes the model quality on the fly and dynamically adapts the UAV's trajectory based on parameterized spatial partitioning to intelligently capture new images of poorly covered areas, ensuring comprehensive acquisition. For the final, high-fidelity output, a non-RT pipeline employs a Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF)-based Neural 3D Reconstruction (N3DR) approach, fusing SfM-derived camera poses with precise external location data, evaluated across both radio-based Ultra Wideband (UWB) and visual motion-capture setups, to correct sensor noise and achieve superior accuracy. We implemented and validated this architecture using Crazyflie 2.1 UAVs. Our experiments, conducted in both single- and multi-UAV configurations show that algorithmic dynamic trajectory adaptation consistently improves reconstruction quality over static flight paths. This work demonstrates a scalable and autonomous solution that unlocks the potential of miniaturized UAVs for fine-grained 3D reconstruction, a capability previously reserved for much larger platforms.

Autonomous Close-Proximity Photovoltaic Panel Coating Using a Quadcopter

Photovoltaic (PV) panels are becoming increasingly widespread in the domain of renewable energy, and thus, small efficiency gains can have massive effects. Anti-reflective and self-cleaning coatings enhance panel performance but degrade over time, requiring periodic reapplication. Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) offer a flexible and autonomous way to apply protective coatings more often and at lower cost compared to traditional manual coating methods. We present a quadcopter-based system, equipped with a liquid dispersion mechanism, designed to automate such tasks. The localization stack only uses onboard sensors, relying on visual-inertial odometry and the relative position of the PV panel detected with respect to the quadcopter. The control relies on a model-based controller that accounts for the ground effect and the mass decrease of the quadcopter during liquid dispersion. We validate the autonomy capabilities of our system through extensive indoor and outdoor experiments.

QuantV2X: A Fully Quantized Multi-Agent System for Cooperative Perception

Cooperative perception through Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication offers significant potential for enhancing vehicle perception by mitigating occlusions and expanding the field of view. However, past research has predominantly focused on improving accuracy metrics without addressing the crucial system-level considerations of efficiency, latency, and real-world deployability. Noticeably, most existing systems rely on full-precision models, which incur high computational and transmission costs, making them impractical for real-time operation in resource-constrained environments. In this paper, we introduce \textbf{QuantV2X}, the first fully quantized multi-agent system designed specifically for efficient and scalable deployment of multi-modal, multi-agent V2X cooperative perception. QuantV2X introduces a unified end-to-end quantization strategy across both neural network models and transmitted message representations that simultaneously reduces computational load and transmission bandwidth. Remarkably, despite operating under low-bit constraints, QuantV2X achieves accuracy comparable to full-precision systems. More importantly, when evaluated under deployment-oriented metrics, QuantV2X reduces system-level latency by 3.2×\times and achieves a +9.5 improvement in mAP30 over full-precision baselines. Furthermore, QuantV2X scales more effectively, enabling larger and more capable models to fit within strict memory budgets. These results highlight the viability of a fully quantized multi-agent intermediate fusion system for real-world deployment. The system will be publicly released to promote research in this field: https://github.com/ucla-mobility/QuantV2X.

Integrated Noise and Safety Management in UAM via A Unified Reinforcement Learning Framework

Urban Air Mobility (UAM) envisions the widespread use of small aerial vehicles to transform transportation in dense urban environments. However, UAM faces critical operational challenges, particularly the balance between minimizing noise exposure and maintaining safe separation in low-altitude urban airspace, two potentially conflicting objectives that are often addressed separately. We propose a reinforcement learning (RL)-based air traffic management system that integrates both noise and safety considerations within a unified, decentralized framework. Under this scalable air traffic coordination solution, agents operate in a structured, multi-layered airspace and learn altitude adjustment policies to jointly manage noise impact and separation constraints. The system demonstrates strong performance across both objectives and reveals tradeoffs among separation, noise exposure, and energy efficiency under high traffic density. Among the three objectives, safe separation is accorded the highest priority, whereas the relative significance of noise and energy varies by location and is contingent upon financial and public policy considerations. The findings highlight the potential of RL and multi-objective coordination strategies in enhancing the safety, quietness, and efficiency of UAM operations.

LLM-Aided Joint Secrecy Precoding and Trajectory for RSMA-Based Heterogeneous UAV Networks

This paper investigates secure communications in rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) enabled heterogeneous UAV networks, where multiple UAVs collaboratively serve ground terminals in the presence of eavesdroppers. By jointly considering secrecy rate maximization and propulsion energy consumption minimization, we formulate a multi-objective optimization problem involving UAV trajectory design, service association, power allocation, and secrecy precoding under mobility, collision-avoidance, service-capacity, and communication constraints. The formulated problem is highly non-convex due to the coupling among UAV trajectories, RSMA transmission variables, and secrecy constraints. To address the resulting non-convex and highly coupled optimization problem, we propose a hierarchical optimization framework. The inner layer uses a semidefinite relaxation (SDR)-based S2DC algorithm combining penalty functions and difference-of-convex (D.C.) programming to solve the secrecy precoding problem with fixed UAV positions. The outer layer introduces a Large Language Model (LLM)-guided heuristic multi-agent reinforcement learning approach (LLM-HeMARL) for trajectory optimization. LLM-HeMARL efficiently incorporates LLM-generated expert heuristic policy, enabling UAVs to learn energy-aware, security-driven trajectories without the inference overhead of real-time LLM calls. The simulation results show that our method outperforms existing baselines in secrecy rate and energy efficiency, with consistent robustness across varying UAV swarm sizes and random seeds.

MGDFIS: Multi-scale Global-detail Feature Integration Strategy for Small Object Detection

Small-object detection in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) imagery requires preserving weak local evidence while using broader context to separate tiny foreground targets from cluttered backgrounds. Existing multi-scale fusion methods improve feature aggregation, but they often add computation or blur fine details during repeated cross-scale fusion. The central challenge is to balance low-SNR target preservation, clutter suppression, and efficient cross-scale context exchange. To address this challenge, we propose the Multi-scale Global-detail Feature Integration Strategy (MGDFIS), a neck-level feature-fusion strategy that couples global context exchange, local-detail recovery, and pixel-level foreground-background recalibration. MGDFIS integrates three coordinated modules: FusionLock-TSS Attention for stabilizing spectral-spatial responses, Global-detail Integration for combining long-range mixing with local detail capture, and Dynamic Pixel Attention for reweighting compact foreground regions. On the controlled VisDrone setting, YOLO26m + MGDFIS improves AP50:95 from 25.7 to 30.2 and AP50 from 37.2 to 44.2 over the YOLO26m baseline, with 96.1 GFLOPs. Additional dataset-specific evaluations report 38.9 AP50 and 21.9 AP50:95 on UAVDT and 97.4 AP50 on CARPK. The code is available at: https://github.com/JackBaixue/MGDFIS.

On the Use of AI-Driven Immersive Digital Technologies for Designing and Operating UAVs

Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) offer agile, cost-effective, and efficient solutions for communication relay networks. However, their modeling and control are challenging, and the mismatch between simulations and actual conditions limits real-world deployment; while maintaining adequate situational awareness remains essential for safe operation. Several studies have proposed integrating the operation of UAVs with immersive digital technologies such as Digital Twin (DT) and Extended Reality (XR) to overcome these challenges. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the latest research and developments involving immersive digital technologies for UAVs. We explore the use of Machine Learning (ML) techniques, particularly Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL), to improve the capabilities of DT for UAV systems, and present a case study of a DT-driven DRL pipeline that couples bidirectional physical-digital synchronisation with online recursive least-squares channel calibration for UAV resource allocation. We identify and discuss key research gaps, and propose countermeasures based on Generative AI (GAI), emphasizing the significant role of AI in advancing DT technology for UAVs. Furthermore, we review and discuss how XR technology can transform UAV operations with the support of GAI, and examine its practical challenges. Finally, we propose future research directions to further develop the application of immersive digital technologies for UAV operation.

An Optimal Algorithm for Changing from Latitudinal to Longitudinal Formation of Autonomous Aircraft Squadrons

This work presents an algorithm for changing from latitudinal to longitudinal formation of autonomous aircraft squadrons. The maneuvers are defined dynamically by using a predefined set of 3D basic maneuvers. This formation change is necessary when the squadron has to perform tasks which demand both formations, such as lift off, georeferencing, obstacle avoidance and landing. Simulations show that the formation change is done without collision. The time complexity analysis of the transformation algorithm reveals that its efficiency is optimal, and the proof of correctness ensures its longitudinal formation features.
