LiteCASS: A Lightweight End-to-End Network for Real-Time Stereo Cinematic Audio Source Separation

Cinematic audio source separation (CASS) decomposes a soundtrack into dialogue, music, and sound-effects (SFX) stems. Existing CASS methods, however, suffer from two critical limitations: they rely on heavily parameterized network architectures and GPU-class hardware, limiting their use in real-time and resource-constrained scenarios, and they are overwhelmingly designed for monaural signals, leaving the stereo scenario largely unexplored. We present LiteCASS, to our knowledge the first lightweight end-to-end network for real-time stereo CASS. LiteCASS combines deterministic STFT subband rearrangement with two jointly trained compact U-Nets: the first extracts dialogue, and the second separates music and SFX from the predicted non-speech component. A multi-task waveform-domain L1 loss supervises all stems. On a spatialized stereo extension of DnR v3, LiteCASS-K8 uses only 1.06M parameters and 0.72G MACs per second, while achieving the highest averaged SI-SDR among the compared CASS baselines.

StereoPatch: Patch-Aligned RGB-Depth Fusion for Spatial Perception in Robot Manipulation

Recent advances in robot imitation learning have produced visuomotor policies that predict actions directly from visual observations. Yet visually similar scenes can require different actions as target position, object height, or contact geometry changes. Pretrained RGB features may map these geometrically distinct states to similar policy inputs, while simply adding depth requires the policy to learn RGB-depth correspondence from the same limited demonstrations used to learn control. We introduce StereoPatch, a patch-aligned RGB-depth representation that binds registered metric geometry directly to the RGB patches used for action prediction. On a shared 2-D patch grid, asymmetric cross-attention incorporates depth information into the corresponding RGB features before action decoding. The resulting StereoPatch Tokens provide a geometry-aware visual representation that can condition general visuomotor policies without changing their underlying learning objectives. Across six real-robot tasks, StereoPatch achieves higher closed-loop success than appearance-only, geometry-only, raw RGB-D, and late-fusion baselines. Additional experiments across three simulation suites evaluate compatibility across visuomotor policy architectures, spatial generalization, and operating limits. Results suggest that resolving control-relevant geometric ambiguity benefits from aligning depth directly with the visual features used for action prediction, rather than supplying it as an independent modality. Distilling deep optical flow stereo methods to retrieve dense three-dimensional wind fields

Geostationary atmospheric motion vectors (AMVs) provide the dense horizontal wind vectors (u,v) and heights ingested into data assimilation systems. Traditional AMVs track features using window-based cross-correlation and estimate heights via infrared brightness temperatures paired with numerical weather prediction (NWP) background states, creating a circular dependency that yields inaccurate heights, high computational cost, and sparse retrievals. Stereo winds from GEO-GEO and GEO-LEO geometrically resolve heights from parallax shifts across different poses, eliminating NWP dependence and improving accuracy, but they remain computationally heavy with limited coverage. In this work, we replace window-based tracking in stereo matching with deep optical flow for efficient, improved retrieval. Fine-tuning balances a self-supervised geometric residual loss with supervised radiosonde reconstruction. To eliminate multi-satellite overlap requirements, we distill the stereo teacher into a single-satellite student model. Chi-square and height uncertainties from the teacher are emulated by the student for quality assurance. The student generates winds across full-disk GEO imagery globally. Validation compares stereo and student models against radiosondes, operational AMVs, ERA5 reanalysis, and EarthCARE cloud profiles. Results through triple collocation show that stereo winds improve performance beyond operational AMVs for water vapor bands (6.2, 6.9, and 7.3 μm), wit degradation in the long-wave infrared (11.2 μm) band.

STEREODISCO: Discovering Stereotypicality in LLMs

LLMs encode, convey, and perpetuate stereotypes. Prior computational research focuses on a small set of semantic axes investigated in social psychology, and operates on word embeddings produced by language models, leaving open which other semantic axes carry stereotypical associations in LLMs and how LLMs internally represent such axes. We introduce STEREODISCO, a framework that adapts the semantic differential method (Osgood et al., 1957) to the systematic study of stereotypes in LLM internal representations. STEREODISCO constructs approx. 2,000 candidate semantic axes from WordNet antonym synsets, recovers each as a geometric axis in the LLM's activation space via probing, and identifies stereotypical axes via a statistical test over concept projections. As a case study, we apply STEREODISCO to social group stereotypes with LLAMA-3-8B-INSTRUCT and MISTRAL-7B-INSTRUCT. We find that the two LLMs agree with each other on social group ratings more than with humans, suggesting that LLM-encoded stereotype content diverges from that documented in social psychology. We also discover stereotypical axes not investigated in prior work -- including humble vs. proud, narrow-minded vs. broad-minded, and cowardly vs. brave, which human annotators independently confirm.

SeasonStereo: Robust Dense Stereo Matching for Multi-Date Satellite Imagery via Generative AI

Accurate 3D reconstruction from satellite imagery typically relies on near-simultaneous stereo pairs, limiting its applicability to diachronic settings where multi-date images exhibit varying seasonal and illumination conditions. Training dense stereo matching models robust to appearance changes is a long-standing challenge, as aligned multi-date imagery and ground-truth geometry are costly to obtain at scale. We propose SeasonStereo, a scalable framework that addresses disparity estimation from diachronic satellite images by training on synthetic image pairs with controlled seasonal appearance variation, while leveraging zero-shot geometric priors from foundation models. SeasonStereo matches the accuracy of state-of-the-art LiDAR-supervised models, while producing sharper geometric details without requiring aligned real multi-date training products or LiDAR-derived labels. As a result, SeasonStereo offers a practical path toward large-scale 3D reconstruction from heterogeneous satellite images with reduced supervision cost.

WHTMix: Efficient Stereo Depth Estimation via Walsh-Hadamard Token Mixing

Stereo depth estimation for driving, robotics and augmented reality must run at high resolution under tight latency budgets, yet in transformer-based matchers the global self-attention that aggregates scene context grows quadratically with the number of pixels and comes to dominate runtime. We show that the joint self-attention stage of a stereo transformer, whose role is to spread context across both views, can be replaced by a data-independent Walsh-Hadamard token mixer that mixes tokens globally in the transform domain at log-linear cost, while the data-dependent cross-attention that performs left-right correspondence is retained. On synthetic driving data the mixer matches the attention baseline in end-point error while reducing model compute by a factor of 2.46 and single-image inference latency by a factor of 2.65. A complexity analysis shows the benefit is governed by the ratio of sequence length to channel width, which explains why high-resolution stereo matching is a particularly favorable setting and why classification transformers are not; we confirm this token-to-channel scaling on non-stereo long-sequence benchmarks. Furthermore, we introduce a hybrid log-disparity loss function designed to up-weight small-disparity pixels corresponding to long-range objects. This approach reduces the error on distant objects without incurring any additional computational overhead.

GeoStereo: A Unified Stereo Geometry Estimation Framework for Disparity and Surface Normal

Stereo matching and surface normal estimation are fundamental tasks in 3D vision. However, existing feed-forward stereo methods still struggle to produce reliable predictions in challenging regions, mainly due to the lack of strong geometric priors. In this paper, we propose GeoStereo\textbf{GeoStereo}, a unified stereo geometry estimation framework that leverages powerful diffusion priors to jointly predict disparity and surface normals. Specifically, GeoStereo couples a feed-forward stereo matching pipeline with a diffusion-based normal estimation branch. To enable effective interaction between the two tasks, we introduce a disparity to normal initialization strategy and construct a warp to left-view condition for the diffusion process. This coupled design allows the diffusion branch to provide strong structural priors that enhance disparity estimation in ill-posed regions, while the feed-forward branch offers reliable geometric guidance for accurate normal prediction. Extensive experiments show that GeoStereo performs reliably in challenging scenarios, including low-light environments, highly reflective surfaces, and transparent objects. Under zero-shot settings, it achieves Rank-1 disparity estimation on multiple benchmarks, including KITTI and NYUv2, and delivers the best normal estimation accuracy on many real indoor benchmarks, such as iBims-1 and ScanNet. Towards Ultrafast Depth Sensing Via Active Event-based Stereo Vision

Conventional frame-based imaging for active stereo systems has encountered major challenges in fast-motion scenarios. However, how to design a novel paradigm for ultrafast depth sensing remains an open issue. In this paper, we propose a novel problem setting, namely active event-based stereo vision, which attempts to integrate binocular event cameras and an infrared 2D pattern projector for high-speed dense depth sensing. Technically, we first build a stereo camera prototype system and present a real-world dataset with over 21.5k spatiotemporal synchronized labels at 15 Hz, while also establishing a realistic synthetic dataset with stereo event streams and 23.8k synchronized labels at 20 Hz. Then, we propose ActiveEventNet+, a lightweight yet effective event-based stereo matching neural network that learns to generate high-quality dense disparity maps from stereo event streams with low latency. Our ActiveEventNet+ mainly involves three innovations: incorporating lightweight blocks into event-based stereo matching frameworks, designing a novel cost volume with dynamic interactions between stereo pairs, and presenting an effective temporal consistency architecture to fully use rich temporal cues in event streams. The results show that our ActiveEventNet+ outperforms state-of-the-art methods while significantly reducing computational complexity. Our solution offers superior depth sensing performance compared to conventional frame-based stereo cameras in high-speed scenes. In particular, the lightweight ActiveEventNet enables the prototype system to achieve real-time processing at speeds up to 150 FPS. We believe that this novel active event-based stereo vision paradigm can provide new insights into the design of future high-speed depth sensing camera systems. Our dataset and code can be available at https://github.com/jianing-li/active_event_based_stereo.

STEREOFLOW: Progressive Stereo Matching with StereoDiT and Transition Flow Matching

Stereo matching is a fundamental task in 3D reconstruction. Despite remarkable advances, the prevailing paradigms formulate stereo matching as a deterministic regression problem, collapsing the multimodal distribution modeling into a single-point estimation. This formulation suffers from a regression-to-mean bias, frequently struggling with ambiguous regions. In contrast, we introduce a prior-guided generative framework that integrates deterministic matching regression and generative distribution modeling within a complementary formulation. Built upon this formulation, we introduce StereoFlow through three key components: (i) a two-stage progressive cascade matching network that progressively produces multi-resolution stereo conditions with complementary matching cues; (ii) a pixel diffusion transformer (termed StereoDiT) with a frequency-decoupled architecture for modeling correspondence ambiguity; (iii) a few-step flow matching objective (termed Transition Flow Matching) for efficient optimization. In summary, \textsc{\textbf{StereoFlow}} achieves strong geometric consistency and rich fine-grained details in ill-posed, discontinuous regions and under zero-shot generalization. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed StereoFlow establishes multiple state-of-the-art results across benchmarks, including Scene Flow, KITTI, ETH3D, and Middlebury.

StemFX: Learning Mixing Style Representations via Autoregressive FX Chain Prediction on Source-Separated Stems

Audio mixing style encompasses the artistic and technical decisions a mix engineer makes, including level balancing, spatialization, and the choice, ordering, and parameterization of audio effects (FX) on each stem. FX chains are a key determinant of this style, yet existing approaches to modeling them remain limited. Some operate on stereo mixtures without explicit per-stem FX chain modeling, others fix the number or type of effects per track, and many require differentiable effect implementations or scarce multitrack datasets. We present StemFX, a framework that learns mixing style representations by autoregressively predicting variable-length FX chains on source-separated stems. A Transformer decoder predicts tokenized FX chains autoregressively, while a band-split multi-band CNN encoder with FiLM conditioning captures per-stem spectral structure. To enable large-scale paired training, we extract pseudo-stems from about 105K songs via source separation and augment them using MultiAFx, a toolkit unifying 85 audio effects from 7 Python libraries. Evaluated on mixing style retrieval, StemFX outperforms all baseline models across all tested chain lengths. On paired mixing style transfer, StemFX achieves the best spectral fidelity and the highest listener preference, over 4000 times faster than iterative optimization.

Geometric Distillation from Rectified Stereo: Leveraging Epipolar Cues for Monocular Depth

Monocular depth foundation models have demonstrated remarkable generalization capabilities across diverse environments. However, they continue to struggle with metric depth estimation in diverse environments. This limitation stems from the inherent scale ambiguity of single-view inference, leading to misaligned scale predictions even when the relative geometry is accurate. Conversely, recent multi-view foundation models leverage cross-view cues to learn robust scene-level geometry and consistent scale. Yet, these benefits typically vanish during single-image inference, as the absence of explicit geometric constraints causes performance to degrade. To bridge this gap, we propose a novel framework that transfers the scale-aware geometric priors of multi-view models into monocular depth foundation models. Specifically, we introduce an Epipolar Distillation (EpiDistill), an approach utilizing Rectified Stereo Tokens, which enables the single-view prediction model to retain epipolar attention patterns and maintain geometric consistency without requiring multi-view inputs at inference. Experimental results demonstrate that our method significantly improves zero-shot metric depth estimation, particularly on challenging datasets like ETH3D and DIODE where scale alignment is critical. Furthermore, our approach is model-agnostic, consistently boosting the performance of state-of-the-art ViT-based models, including UniDepthV2 and DepthPro.

WAVE-Stereo: Warp-Aligned Volume Encoding for Stereo Matching

Existing iterative stereo matching methods primarily adopt two types of correspondence representation: explicit matching search via correlation volumes and local residual refinement via warped features, yet the two remain separately modeled. We propose WAVE-Stereo, built on a core insight: correlation volumes and feature warping provide complementary matching cues. \textbf{GeoWarp Correspondence Encoder (GWCE)} encodes matching search, residual alignment, and disparity prior in parallel at the ConvGRU input. To mitigate matching degradation in textureless regions, we propose \textbf{Periodic Global Context Propagation (PGCP)}, which propagates global spatial information in a periodic manner. On five real-world benchmarks -- Middlebury, ETH3D, KITTI 2012, KITTI 2015, and Booster -- WAVE-Stereo achieves competitive zero-shot generalization accuracy without any external foundation model prior, achieving 3.18% D1-all on KITTI 2015, 4.42% Bad-2.0 on Booster, and 66ms real-time inference, striking a favorable balance between accuracy and efficiency. Streamlining stereo differentiable rendering for marker-free real-time tracking of surgical robots

Purpose: Marker-based tracking of surgical robots is occlusion-prone in cluttered operating rooms. We evaluate stereo differentiable rendering for marker-free, real-time robot pose tracking, potentially improving safety, reducing setup time, and enabling multi-robot interaction. Methods: We extend the markerless pose estimation framework roboreg to online dynamic tracking via (i) sequential optimisation that propagates pose estimates across frames with motion-adaptive hyperparameter tuning, and (ii) CUDA stream parallelisation of segmentation and optimisation, combined with CUDA-graph accelerated segmentation. We evaluate on 38 unobstructed and 5 occluded displacement sequences with static start/end ground-truth calibrations and dynamic marker-based reference tracking. Results: We achieve real-time 1080p tracking at 30 fps (up from 14 fps for vanilla roboreg), matching the camera frame rate. Accuracy reaches 1.7 cm / 0.6 deg against static ground truth and 1.2 cm mean 3D error over 27,460 frames against the marker-based reference (1.53 cm over 1,242 occluded frames). Our method outperforms FoundationPose by 11% in dynamic estimation (63% under occlusion) and 250% in static estimation, with 6x faster inference. Conclusions: Stereo differentiable rendering enables real-time, high-resolution marker-free surgical robot tracking, on par with marker-based approaches and surpassing foundation-model baselines.

Revisiting Matching Response and Swept Feature Volumes for Wide-baseline Omnidirectional Stereo

In this paper, we propose a training strategy for confidence estimation in omnidirectional stereo, targeting the ambiguous matches that frequently occur in wide-baseline setups. Reinterpreting the matching responses produced by the 3D encoder decoder block, we show that their expectation values provide intrinsic confidence signals. Building on this, our method directly penalizes ambiguous responses without auxiliary heads, multi-pass inference, or additional modules, resulting in more efficient and generalized predictions. Beyond confidence, we introduce swept feature volume resampling, where response features produced by 3D CNNs are resampled using regressed positive matching indices and then processed by 2D CNNs to predict meta-information such as surface normals. This joint learning introduces auxiliary geometric regularization and improves depth coherence by leveraging additional contextual cues during response aggregation stage. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach enhances both confidence estimation and surface normal prediction while maintaining deployment practicality for autonomous mobility applications.

TSR-Ego: Temporally Guided Stereo Refinement Framework for Egocentric 3D Human Pose Estimation

Egocentric 3D human pose estimation from head-mounted stereo cameras is challenging due to fisheye distortion, severe self-occlusion, and frequent truncation of body joints outside the camera field of view. Recent stereo egocentric methods have improved performance through heatmap lifting, stereo correspondence, and transformer-based refinement, but they often rely heavily on frame-local evidence or use temporal information only as auxiliary pose-level context. This limits robustness when current-frame stereo cues are weak, occluded, or ambiguous. We propose TSR-Ego, a temporally guided stereo framework that couples short-term motion evidence with projection-guided feature sampling. The model first enriches dense stereo feature maps using a causal depthwise-separable temporal convolution, allowing past visual evidence to influence the feature space before deformable cross-attention. A single-stage causal stereo decoder then refines learned 3D joint queries through temporal self-attention, joint self-attention, and fisheye deformable stereo cross-attention, using the evolving pose estimate to generate 2D sampling references. Unlike methods that apply temporal reasoning mainly after pose prediction, TSR-Ego uses motion context to shape both the sampled stereo features and the joint representations while preserving online inference without future frames. Experiments on UnrealEgo2 and UnrealEgo-RW show state-of-the-art performance, with especially strong gains on real-world sequences.

StereoSplat+: Feed-Forward Stereo Gaussian Splatting with Diffusion-Assisted Progressive Inference

Recent advances in 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) have enabled high-quality, render-ready scene representations for novel-view synthesis. However, most existing 3DGS pipelines rely on multi-view observations (or non-causal access to future frames) to achieve sufficient coverage, which is often unavailable in on-device robotics and AR settings where sensing is restricted to a single stereo rig. Recovering a high-quality 3DGS scene from one stereo observation, therefore, remains challenging due to occlusions, limited field of view, and missing geometry. We present StereoSplat+, a diffusion-enhanced feed-forward framework that enables causal reconstruction from a single stereo pair. Our method builds on two key components. First, we propose StereoSplat, an input-invariant feed-forward 3D Gaussian estimator that takes a variable number of posed stereo pairs as input and predicts high-quality 3D Gaussians. StereoSplat fuses complementary geometry cues via a cost-volume branch and a triplane-based 3D volume branch and leverages continuous pose encoding to generalize across view counts and camera configurations. Second, since multiple posed stereo pairs are typically unavailable at inference time, we introduce a diffusion-enhanced one-shot progressive inference scheme called StereoSplat+: starting from one stereo pair, we render novel stereo views from the predicted 3DGS, refine them with a one-step diffusion enhancer, and feed them back as additional inputs to update the 3DGS. Experiments on the KITTI-360 dataset show that StereoSplat+ improves novel-view rendering quality and geometry accuracy, especially in occluded regions and under strong view extrapolation, outperforming recent feed-forward 3DGS baselines.

Dual-BEATs: Unlocking Zero-Shot Stereo Audio Perception in Audio Large Language Models via Dithering

Multimodal Large Language Models (LLMs) have remarkable semantic audio understanding, yet they remain "spatially agnostic" due to their reliance on mono-channel audio representations. Currently, spatial audio perception methods mainly focus on complex room simulations and custom-trained, geometry-aware stereo encoders, which limits their accessibility and generalizability. In this paper, we introduce the Dual-BEATs architecture, in which the left and right audio channels are routed independently through two identical semantic encoders as an alternative to specialized spatial modules. To circumvent the architectural bottleneck where internal normalization otherwise erases the inter-channel variance of stereo audio, we inject a static, uncorrelated dithering noise floor prior to encoding. This dithering intervention establishes a macro-variance floor that "smuggles" spatial geometry across the normalization layers. Evaluated on a ternary directional classification task (Left, Center, Right), we demonstrate that dithered models achieve exceptional spatial resolution--reaching up to 97.2% localization accuracy even on subtle 0.5 panning amplitudes--and demonstrates robust, zero-shot generalization to entirely unseen spatial configurations. Our results suggest that with the appropriate acoustic regularization, standard multimodal models are natively capable of generalized stereo audio understanding.

Scalable and Culturally Specific Stereotype Dataset Construction via Human-LLM Collaboration

Research on stereotypes in large language models (LLMs) has largely focused on English-speaking contexts, due to the lack of datasets in other languages and the high cost of manual annotation in underrepresented cultures. To address this gap, we introduce a cost-efficient human-LLM collaborative annotation framework and apply it to construct EspanStereo, a Spanish-language stereotype dataset spanning multiple Spanish-speaking countries across Europe and Latin America. EspanStereo captures both well-documented stereotypes from prior literature and culturally specific biases absent from English-centric resources. Using LLMs to generate candidate stereotypes and in-culture annotators to validate them, we demonstrate the framework's effectiveness in identifying nuanced, region-specific biases. Our evaluation of Spanish-supporting LLMs using EspanStereo reveals significant variation in stereotypical behavior across countries, highlighting the need for more culturally grounded assessments. Beyond Spanish, our framework is adaptable to other languages and regions, offering a scalable path toward multilingual stereotype benchmarks. This work broadens the scope of stereotype analysis in LLMs and lays the groundwork for comprehensive cross-cultural bias evaluation.

URS-Stereo: Uncertainty-Guided Residual Search for Real-Time Stereo Matching

Real-time stereo matching is crucial for robotics, autonomous systems, and embedded vision applications, where both computational efficiency and disparity accuracy are required. Recent coarse-to-fine stereo matching methods improve efficiency by progressively refining disparity estimates using local cost volumes at higher resolutions. However, these methods rely heavily on the accuracy of propagated disparity estimates from previous stages. When the propagated disparity is inaccurate, the ground-truth correspondence may fall outside the predefined local search range, leading to unrecoverable matching failures during subsequent refinement. In this paper, we propose URS-Stereo, a real-time coarse-to-fine stereo matching framework that addresses this limitation through uncertainty-guided search adaptation. Specifically, we introduce an Uncertainty-Guided Residual Search Module (UGRSM), which predicts the reliability of propagated disparities together with residual search offsets to adaptively relocate the centers of local cost volumes before disparity refinement. By dynamically adjusting the search region according to the confidence of the propagated disparity, the proposed method significantly improves the robustness of local correspondence estimation while preserving the computational efficiency of coarse-to-fine stereo matching. Extensive experiments on SceneFlow, KITTI 2012, KITTI 2015, Middlebury, and ETH3D demonstrate that URS-Stereo consistently improves disparity estimation while maintaining real-time inference speed, validating the effectiveness of the proposed uncertainty-guided search strategy

AquaStereo: Enabling Underwater Stereo Matching via Depth-Conditioned Diffusion and Geometry Self-Distillation

Learning-based stereo matching models struggle in underwater environments due to scarce in-domain data and the difficulty of extracting discriminative correspondences from degraded imagery. In this work, we present AquaStereo\textbf{AquaStereo}, a perception-enhanced framework with a data simulation pipeline and a self-distillation strategy that jointly address data scarcity and feature degradation in underwater stereo matching. First, a depth-conditioned diffusion pipeline renders underwater stereo pairs while preserving binocular geometry, with a lightweight left-right consistency module ensuring geometric alignment. Training on this synthetic corpus effectively narrows the terrestrial-underwater gap and improves zero-shot robustness. Second, a frozen binocular teacher trained on clean terrestrial pairs guides a student exposed to rendered underwater pairs with perturbations. A stage-weighted sequence loss is performed to align the student's disparities with the teacher's geometry, while a clean-branch supervision with shared pseudo targets prevents scale drift. To further enhance feature stability under turbidity and low texture, we introduce learnable perception frames, a perception-enhanced feature formulation that constructs robust matching descriptors by fusing temporal cues from two auxiliary views encoded by a video backbone with semantic features extracted by a strong image encoder. Extensive experiments demonstrate that AquaStereo\textbf{AquaStereo} substantially improves robustness and zero-shot generalization in challenging underwater scenarios. Geometric Foundation Model Distillation for Efficient Lunar 3D Reconstruction

Large 3D foundation models such as MASt3R achieve state-of-the-art stereo reconstruction but are computationally demanding for deployment under strict hardware constraints -- a critical limitation in domains such as planetary exploration, where onboard computing is severely restricted. We study how far such models can be compressed through knowledge distillation, using lunar stereo reconstruction as a challenging and practically relevant case study. Starting from a 688M-parameter MASt3R teacher fine-tuned on lunar imagery, we distill its dense geometric predictions into a family of lightweight students spanning different encoder types (CNN vs ViT), decoder widths and depths, and training strategies. To bridge the dimensional mismatch between teacher and student, we propose a structured SVD-based initialization that projects the teacher's decoder weights into the student's smaller latent space, yielding a warm start that significantly improves convergence and final performance. Based on our results on lunar data, we can obtain a distilled student that retains most of teacher's reconstruction accuracy while reducing the model size up to 7 times, and even outperforms a baseline trained directly with sparse ground-truth annotations. Beyond compression, our study highlights both principles and practical insights for distilling geometric foundation models: a convolutional encoder underperforms transformer-based alternatives (though pretraining availability remains a confounding factor), preserving encoder capacity is more critical than maintaining a large decoder, feature-level distillation consistently outperforms output-only supervision, and SVD-based initialization improves optimisation stability. These findings provide practical guidelines for deploying 3D reconstruction models in resource-constrained environments.

StereoGS: Sparse-View 3D Gaussian Splatting via Stereo Priors

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has achieved remarkable success in real-time novel view synthesis, yet it suffers from severe overfitting under sparse-view settings due to insufficient geometric constraints. While recent methods introduce monocular depth priors to mitigate this, they inherently struggle with scale ambiguity and cross-view inconsistency, leading to defective geometry. In this paper, we propose StereoGS, a novel sparse-view 3DGS framework that integrates stereo priors to establish reliable binocular consistency. Unlike scale-agnostic monocular constraints, StereoGS introduces a Stereo Depth Regularization by constructing virtual stereo pairs during optimization and leveraging a foundation stereo model to enforce absolute scale and binocular-consistent structures. To further suppress overfitting and eliminate redundant primitives, we design a Gradient-Aware Opacity Decay strategy that dynamically penalizes Gaussians based on their relative opacity gradient magnitudes. Combined with a Consistency-Aware Dense Initialization using zero-shot multi-view depth estimation, StereoGS effectively anchors primitives to accurate scene surfaces. Extensive experiments on LLFF, DTU, Mip-NeRF360, and Blender datasets demonstrate that StereoGS achieves state-of-the-art performance in sparse-view settings without incurring any additional inference overhead. A Benchmark for Heterogeneous Stereo Deblurring with Physically- and Epipolar-constrained Cross Attention

Modern stereo-capable smartphones enable immersive XR content capture. However, hardware heterogeneity across camera modules often causes severe asymmetric blur artifacts. Existing methods and benchmarks largely assume homogeneous stereo setups and therefore do not explicitly address such asymmetric degradation. To bridge this gap, we present a dedicated framework for heterogeneous stereo deblurring. First, we introduce the heterogeneous stereo deblurring (HSD) dataset, constructed from real smartphone stereo captures via multi-frame integration. Second, we propose physically- and epipolar-constrained cross attention (PECA), a lightweight module that restricts cross-view matching to an epipolar search window bounded by a optics-derived disparity upper bound. By enforcing physically valid disparity constraints, PECA enables efficient and reliable cross-view feature fusion. Moreover, our confidence-weighted attention with residual fusion emphasizes cross-guided deblurring when correspondences are reliable, while naturally falling back to self-deblurring in occluded or unreliable regions. PECA is architecture-agnostic and consistently improves CNN-, Transformer-, and NAFNet-based baselines. Extensive experiments on HSD show that PECA-enhanced models achieve improved restoration performance with favorable efficiency.

Cross-View Variance Correlation in Path-Traced Stereo:A Hidden Shortcut in Synthetic Training Data

Path-traced synthetic stereo data underlie a large fraction of modern disparity-estimation training pipelines. We report a previously unrecognised property of such data: while the Monte Carlo (MC) noise streams of the two cameras are statistically independent, the underlying \emph{variance fields} -- deterministic per-pixel functions of the rendering integrand -- are highly correlated once aligned by the ground-truth disparity warp. Across 20 scenes rendered with Mitsuba~3, the warped Pearson correlation reaches ρ=0.754±0.016ρ{=}0.754{\pm}0.016 across 20 scenes at SPP=512\mathrm{SPP}{=}512, and on a representative scene remains essentially invariant (ρ=0.778±0.001ρ{=}0.778{\pm}0.001) over a 16×16\times range of samples per pixel. The effect is strongest in Lambertian regions (ρ0.78ρ{\approx}0.78) and substantially weaker in glass (ρ0.30ρ{\approx}0.30), as predicted by an integrand decomposition into view-independent and view-dependent components. A residual-shuffle intervention that breaks the cross-view alignment while preserving the clean image degrades the GT cost margin by 33%33\% on non-glass and the variance-based winner-take-all accuracy on glass by 4.3×4.3\times, confirming the structure functions as a matching cue. This signal is unique to MC-rendered data and constitutes a candidate sim-to-real shortcut whose impact on trained networks remains to be quantified.

LinStereo: Linear-Complexity Global Attention for Multi-Scale Iterative Stereo Matching

Existing Vision Foundation Model (VFM)-based iterative stereo pipelines under-exploit three information pathways: multi-scale backbone features are collapsed into single-level correlations, geometric priors remain untapped at initialization, and context propagates only locally. These gaps widen under degraded photometric cues, making underwater scenes a stringent generalization test. To address this, we propose LinStereo, built upon Depth Anything V3, whose core is a Position-Aware Linear Attention (PALA) module that replaces local recurrence with global aggregation at linear cost, propagating reliable estimates from well-matched regions into degraded areas while preserving disparity structure. PALA is made effective by two enabling components: Hierarchical Semantic Cost Volumes (HSCV), which supply scale-aligned correlations from the VFM feature hierarchy, and a Depth Prior Initialization (DPI) that converts monocular depth into a metrically calibrated warm start. LinStereo achieves state-of-the-art-level accuracy on standard benchmarks and strong cross-domain generalization, particularly on underwater scene where severe photometric degradation makes stereo matching particularly challenging, attaining the best overall accuracy with consistent gains 28% lower AbsRel on TartanAir-UW, 26% on SQUID, a real-world underwater dataset).

Spherical-to-ERP Epipolar Rectification for Single-Axis Disparity in 360 Stereo

Omnidirectional stereo images provide full-surround perception but violate the geometric assumptions of classical disparity estimation: in spherical or fisheye views, epipolar correspondences follow curved great-circle paths, producing two-dimensional displacements that cannot be treated as single-axis disparity before geometric rectification. In this work, we adopt a standard spherical-to-equirectangular (ERP) projection as a preprocessing step, which straightens epipolar curves and restores a one-dimensional disparity structure - horizontal for left-right rigs and vertical for top-bottom rigs. Building on our previously introduced RAFT + Epipolar-Aligned Channel Selection (EACS) framework, originally developed for rectilinear and ERP stereo, we examine whether the same modular pipeline remains accurate when the input originates from spherical stereo imagery. After ERP projection, dense optical flow from RAFT is reduced to disparity by retaining only the baseline-aligned flow component. Experiments on synthetic fisheye stereo datasets show that this spherical-to-ERP-to-RAFT+EACS pipeline produces accurate, smooth, and structurally consistent disparity maps at real-time speed. These findings confirm that established ERP preprocessing can be effectively combined with our earlier RAFT+EACS method to enable practical, interpretable, and efficient disparity estimation from spherical stereo, providing a straightforward pathway for extending conventional stereo pipelines to 360 imaging.

DDStereo: Efficient Dual Decoder Transformers for Stereo 3D Road Anomaly Detection

Stereo-based 3D obstacle perception for autonomous driving is currently constrained by an imbalanced triplet: deployment cost, detection accuracy, and open-set adaptability. While existing methods struggle to balance these three competing objectives, there is an urgent demand for high-precision, real-time algorithms capable of detecting arbitrary obstacles in the wild. In this paper, we present DDStereo, a novel Dual-Decoder Stereo Transformer that achieves a synergistic integration of 3D object detection and Out-of-Distribution (OoD) road anomaly detection. Leveraging the geometric priors of stereo disparity, our approach effectively couples 3D attribute regression with open-set foreground detection within a streamlined dual-branch decoder architecture. Conventional methods rely on complex feature-level fusion; DDStereo maintains execution efficiency by employing a decoupled decoding strategy and shared object-level queries to ensure cross-modal target alignment. Extensive evaluations of public benchmarks demonstrate that DDStereo not only achieves state-of-the-art accuracy under open-set and closed-set protocols. Our method delivers real-time performance comparable to monocular 3D detection baselines, providing a cost-effective solution for the perception of obstacles of the normal and OoD category. Lite Any Stereo V2: Faster and Stronger Efficient Zero-Shot Stereo Matching

Recent advances in stereo matching have achieved remarkable accuracy, but often rely on large models, heavy computation, or additional foundation-model priors, making them difficult to deploy on resource-constrained platforms. In contrast, efficient stereo models offer faster inference but are commonly considered less capable of strong zero-shot generalization. In this paper, we challenge this assumption by introducing Lite Any Stereo V2 (LAS2), an ultra-fast model series designed for efficient zero-shot stereo matching. LAS2 is developed from both architecture and training perspectives. Architecturally, we revisit efficient stereo design under practical deployment settings and propose a 2D-only cost aggregation framework, optimized for real inference latency rather than theoretical MACs alone. For training, we develop a three-stage strategy that combines synthetic supervision, self-distillation, and real-world knowledge distillation. To improve the reliability of real-world pseudo supervision, we further introduce pseudo-label filtering and an error-clamping operation, enabling smoother synthetic-to-real transfer. We instantiate LAS2 as a family of models, including feed-forward variants for different efficiency budgets and an iterative variant for higher accuracy. Extensive experiments show that LAS2 achieves state-of-the-art accuracy among efficient stereo methods while maintaining significantly lower latency. Specifically, LAS2-H achieves stronger overall zero-shot performance than the iterative method Fast-FoundationStereo, with 1.8x and 2.7x faster inference on H200 and Orin, respectively. Reference-Based Recursive Least-Squares Mitigation of Real Interference in Stereo Audio Recordings

Reference-based adaptive interference cancellation is evaluated for stereo audio recordings corrupted by real train noise and environmental background. The observed signal is modeled as a clean stereo program contaminated by an additive disturbance generated by an external acoustic source through unknown propagation paths. A second stereo recording, representing another filtered observation of the same physical noise source, is used as the reference input of a multi-reference recursive least-squares (RLS) estimator. The estimated train-interference component is subtracted from the noisy audio and followed by a finite-impulse-response low-pass postfilter. Three 74.01 s real audio sequences sampled at 11.025 kHz are processed under identical algorithmic parameters. Since clean ground truth is not available, performance is assessed with no-reference indicators: waveform behavior, Welch spectral estimates, RMS change, and residual normalized correlation with the reference. With 30 taps per reference channel, 15 anti-causal taps, and forgetting factor 0.999, the maximum reference correlation is reduced from 0.386--0.832 before processing to 0.011--0.016 after processing. The corresponding correlation-ratio reduction is approximately 30.6--34.1 dB, while the output RMS decreases by 1.8--4.8 dB depending on section and stereo channel. The results demonstrate that real train interference, including environmental acoustic effects, can be substantially attenuated when a correlated reference recording is available.

StereoFactory: A Unified Merging Framework for Robust Stereo Matching

Stereo matching has advanced through foundation models trained on large-scale datasets, yet this paradigm suffers from a scalability bottleneck: incorporating new data requires costly joint retraining. Model merging offers a scalable post-hoc alternative by integrating knowledge from specialized models after source checkpoints are available. However, existing merging methods typically retain all available models or rely on greedy inclusion, which can preserve harmful task-vector interference. We propose StereoFactory, a coarse-to-fine evolutionary framework for adaptive model merging. Stage1 employs a genetic algorithm to search the combinatorial space of model subsets, determining which models should participate. Stage2 addresses module-level knowledge specialization (different functional modules exhibit distinct preferences for knowledge sources) through CMA-ES optimization of architecture-adaptive routing over the selected task vectors, with optional module-level scaling. Experiments across two architectures and four benchmarks demonstrate that StereoFactory consistently achieves the best four-benchmark average under the same checkpoint pool, reducing the average error from 3.80 to 3.30 on NMRF and from 2.88 to 2.19 on FoundationStereo relative to the strongest controlled baseline. The post-hoc search requires only 2.7--3.7% of the corresponding joint-retraining wall-clock time. Analysis reveals that knowledge contributions are inherently module-specific, and selected subsets can transfer across architectures with minimal degradation. Code will be publicly released upon acceptance at: https://github.com/XiandaGuo/StereoFactory.

StereoGeo: an end-to-end stereo camera calibration method

In this work, we propose StereoGeo, an end-to-end network-based approach for stereo camera calibration. Our method estimates the focal lengths and gravity directions of the left and right cameras, as well as the relative extrinsic transformation relating them. Existing methods often rely on calibration patterns in structured environments or address only a single camera configuration, being limited to either intrinsic or extrinsic estimation, and depending on a multi-view setups. StereoGeo extends the GeoCalib algorithm, integrating deep neural network feature extraction with a differentiable optimizer. Extensive experiments on real-world benchmarks demonstrate that StereoGeo achieves competitive performance for intrinsic calibration and provides accurate stereo extrinsic estimation, outperforming existing methods that are limited to monocular settings. The dataset used in this work is partially publicly available at https://github.com/meddourimane/StereoGeo-dataset.

Comparing Commercial Depth Sensor Accuracy for Medical Applications

Depth estimation has numerous medical and surgical applications. We benchmark four depth sensors on a porcine bone specimen, a porcine belly specimen, and a silicone kidney phantom using stylus-sampled references. These objects contain several real-world challenges, including homogeneous surfaces, specular surfaces, and subsurface scattering. The comparison includes stereo, structured-light, and time-of-flight sensors at a distance of approximately 50 cm. Specifically, the Intel RealSense D405 (Intel RealSense, United States), PMD Flexx2 (pmdtechnologies, Germany), Stereolabs ZED 2i (Stereolabs, France), and Zivid 2M+ 60 (Zivid, Norway) are compared. The Zivid 2M+ 60 performed best across all objects and metrics considered in this work. The ZED ranked second for real tissue, but last on the phantom.

Stereo Vision-Based Fall Prediction and Detection using Human Pose Estimation on the AMD Kria K26 SOM

Background and Objective: Falls among elderly people can cause serious injury and reduce quality of life. Timely prediction and detection are essential to prevent harm and support well-being. We propose a portable, low-power, battery-operated, vision-based fall prediction and detection system using HPE on an AMD Kria K26 System-on-Module (SOM). The objective is a non-intrusive, privacy-preserving system for real-time fall detection. Methods: The system uses an Intel RealSense D455 range-sensing camera connected to the K26 SOM by USB. It captures synchronized RGB and depth frames, 640 x 480 x 3 and 640 x 480 pixels, at 60 FPS. The SOM runs a three-stage pipeline with quantized YOLOX, Anchor-to-Joint (A2J), and fall-detection models. YOLOX identifies human bounding boxes from RGB frames, then discards the RGB frames to preserve privacy. A2J uses depth frames to estimate 15 joint keypoints per person. A CNN uses selected joint coordinates (x, y, z) to classify fall activity. YOLOX was trained on CrowdHuman; A2J on ITOP, MP-3DHP, UR Fall Detection, and a custom SDSU PSG dataset; and the CNN on UR Fall Detection and SDSU PSG. The design used a single-core DPU with a serial pipeline and a dual-core DPU running YOLOX and A2J with multiple threads. Results: Quantized accuracy was evaluated using IoU >= 50% for YOLOX, mAP with a 10-cm rule for A2J, and classification accuracy, (TP + TN)/(TP + TN + FP + FN), for the CNN. Accuracies were 74%, 84.13%, and 75.85%. Throughput improved from 2.5 FPS for the single-threaded pipeline to 4.5 FPS for the multi-threaded version. Conclusion: Results demonstrate the feasibility of privacy-preserving fall detection on an AMD Kria K26 edge device. On-device HPE and fall classification runs without cloud dependency, supporting elderly monitoring and assistive healthcare. Future work will improve model accuracy and speed.

Benchmarking stereo reconstruction for 3D printable Martian terrain models

Reconstructing printable 3D models from Mars rover imagery is challenging because Martian terrain is low-texture, irregular, and partially observed. We evaluate a pipeline that estimates stereo depth from NASA Curiosity images, completes geometry, and exports watertight OBJ meshes. On Middlebury, RAFT-Stereo outperforms semi-global block matching (SGBM), reducing disparity MAE from 3.22px to 0.73px and increasing valid prediction coverage from 76.3% to 100.0%. On Curiosity imagery, however, RAFT's denser disparities show weaker edge alignment and higher photometric reprojection error, suggesting that benchmark accuracy does not directly transfer to Martian terrain reconstruction. Geometry completion demonstrates a tradeoff between local fidelity and global connectivity. We find that alpha shapes preserve accurate but fragmented structure, Poisson reconstruction produces more coherent meshes but adds unsupported surfaces, and a deterministic diffusion-fill baseline is intermediate but sensitive to stereo quality. Overall, standard stereo and completion methods can produce printable approximations of Martian terrain, but reliable reconstruction requires stronger domain-specific validation.

Depth from Dual Differential Defocus and Stereo Consensus

We introduce D^3S Consensus, a physics-based, closed-form algorithm that unifies depth-from-defocus (DfD) and stereo to achieve highly accurate depth estimation throughout an extended working range beyond the depth-of-field (DoF) of cameras. Given a pair of dual-defocus stereo images, the method estimates an overdetermined set of depth using a novel DfD theory, Dual Differential Defocus (D^3), and (S)tereo in a coupled fashion. It then picks the most confident depth prediction from the set by enforcing consensus between these physically independent cues to reject unreliable estimates. Analysis shows that D^3S achieves a comparable working range under the same error tolerance with 10x smaller baseline than previous triangulation-based depth estimation systems. This enables compact passive binocular rangefinders with substantially smaller form factors than conventional stereo and DfD designs. We demonstrate the first D^3S prototype with only 4 mm baseline and 12 mm EFL. It generates up to 900 x 1800-pixel depth maps with 1-cm mean absolute error over 0.3-1.64 m from a snapshot acquisition. This has surpassed the reported accuracy of certain commercially available stereo cameras with much larger form factors.

αDepth: Learning Single-Pass Soft Boundary Decomposition for Stereo Conversion

Accurately modeling soft boundaries, e.g., hair and defocus blur, is a fundamental challenge in stereo conversion due to the ambiguous blending of foreground and background. Existing depth models primarily predict single-layer depth, leading to ambiguity in depth correspondence at soft boundaries. While matting techniques can capture opacity for layered modeling, they often struggle in complex scenes with multiple targets and usually require user intervention. This paper introduces αDepth, a layered representation that decomposes soft boundaries for high-fidelity stereo conversion. Specifically, we first resolve mixed color and depth ambiguity by estimating layered color and depth values at soft boundaries. Considering complex multi-target scenes, we design a Circular Alpha Representation (CAR) that shifts the paradigm from global target extraction to local boundary decomposition. Unlike prior matting methods restricted to a single foreground/background, CAR enables efficient scene-level inference without manual guidance. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that αDepth achieves state-of-the-art performance in stereo conversion, eliminating background bleeding and structural distortions at soft boundaries.

Non-Learning Low-Light Stereo Vision

We present a non-learning stereo framework for disparity estimation from severely noisy images. Using the Field of Junctions (FoJ), it retains coarse visual features stable under severe noise for cost volume construction while discarding fine textures inseparable from photon noise. The resulting structural information guides boundary-aware Semi-Global Matching (SGM) that dynamically adapts smoothness penalties to preserve true disparity discontinuities. The output is a sparse disparity map more accurate than those of recent stereo algorithms over unmasked pixels on widely-used benchmark datasets.

StereoGenBench: A Synthetic Multi-Camera Benchmark for Stereo Generation under Controlled Baseline Regimes

Stereo image and video generation, stereo geometry estimation, and condition-controlled view synthesis require paired data in which the variables that determine binocular geometry -- camera baseline, intrinsics, scene depth, and camera motion -- are known and controllable. Existing stereo resources provide subsets of these variables, but resources commonly used for stereo generation evaluation do not, to our knowledge, provide scene-paired, calibrated multi-baseline right-view ground truth with jointly recorded intrinsics, dense metric depth, and per-frame poses in a single controlled source. We introduce StereoGenBench, a synthetic Unreal Engine benchmark designed to make baseline-regime sensitivity and target-camera consistency measurable under matched scene content. Each scene is rendered with a rigid six-camera lateral array, yielding up to 15 calibrated view pairs; adjacent baselines are sampled from inter-pupillary to wide-baseline regimes; focal length is sampled independently; and every view is released with RGB, metric depth, intrinsics, per-pair baselines, and per-frame poses. The splits include two evaluation families for narrow and wide baseline regimes and a train-only family for broader all-pairs coverage. We release the dataset, evaluation code, reference results, Croissant metadata, and generation code/configuration for extension with compatible assets. SAME: A Semantically-Aligned Music Autoencoder

Latent representations are at the heart of the majority of modern generative models. In the audio domain they are typically produced by a neural-audio-codec autoencoder. In this work we introduce SAME (Semantically-Aligned Music autoEncoder), an autoencoder for stereo music and general audio that reaches a 4096×\times temporal compression ratio while maintaining reconstruction quality and downstream generative performance. We achieve this by combining a tranformer-based backbone with set of semantic regularisation approaches, phase-aware reconstruction losses and improved discriminator designs. The architecture delivers substantial computational cost benefits, through both its high compression ratio and its reliance on well-optimised transformer primitives. Two variants (a large SAME-L and a CPU-deployable SAME-S) are released in open-weights form.

Monocular Depth Perception Enhancement Based on Joint Shading/Contrast Model and Motion Parallax (JSM)

Stereoscopic 3D displays adopt a binocular depth cue to provide depth perception. However, users should be equipped with expensive special devices to appreciate depth perception based on the binocular depth cues. Also, visual fatigue induced by the stereoscopic display is still a challenging open problem. In order to overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a novel framework, JSM, to enhance monocular depth perception, significantly improving both depth volume perception and depth range perception. The proposed framework can not only provide an enhanced depth perception on any conventional 2D display devices, but also it can be applicable to the 3D display devices since it is complementary to binocular depth cues. The qualitative evaluation, ablation study, and subjective user evaluation proved the advantages and practicability of the proposed framework.

H-OmniStereo: Zero-Shot Omnidirectional Stereo Matching with Heading-Aligned Normal Priors

Stereo matching on top-bottom equirectangular images provides an effective framework for full-surround perception, as vertically aligned epipolar lines enable the use of advanced perspective stereo architectures that are largely driven by large-scale datasets and monocular priors. However, the performance of such adaptations is severely limited by the scarcity of omnidirectional stereo datasets and the degradation of perspective monocular priors under spherical distortions. To address these challenges, we propose H-OmniStereo, a zero-shot omnidirectional stereo matching framework. First, we construct high-quality synthetic dataset comprising over 2.8 million top-bottom equirectangular stereo pairs to scale up training. Second, we introduce an equirectangular monocular normal estimator, specifically operating in a heading-aligned coordinate system. Beyond providing distortion-robust and cross-view-consistent geometric priors for establishing reliable correspondences in stereo matching, this design boosts training efficiency and accommodates train-test FoV mismatches. Extensive experiments show that our approach achieves higher accuracy than existing methods on out-of-domain datasets and successfully generalizes to real-world consumer camera setups using a single model. What Limits Vision-and-Language Navigation ?

Vision-and-Language Navigation (VLN) is a cornerstone of embodied intelligence. However, current agents often suffer from significant performance degradation when transitioning from simulation to real-world deployment, primarily due to perceptual instability (e.g., lighting variations and motion blur) and under-specified instructions. While existing methods attempt to bridge this gap by scaling up model size and training data, we argue that the bottleneck lies in the lack of robust spatial grounding and cross-domain priors. In this paper, we propose StereoNav, a robust Vision-Language-Action framework designed to enhance real-world navigation consistency. To address the inherent gap between synthetic training and physical execution, we introduce Target-Location Priors as a persistent bridge. These priors provide stable visual guidance that remains invariant across domains, effectively grounding the agent even when instructions are vague. Furthermore, to mitigate visual disturbances like motion blur and illumination shifts, StereoNav leverages stereo vision to construct a unified representation of semantics and geometry, enabling precise action prediction through enhanced depth awareness. Extensive experiments on R2R-CE and RxR-CE demonstrate that StereoNav achieves state-of-the-art egocentric RGB performance, with SR and SPL scores of 81.1% and 68.3%, and 67.5% and 52.0%, respectively, while using significantly fewer parameters and less training data than prior scaling-based approaches. More importantly, real-world robotic deployments confirm that StereoNav substantially improves navigation reliability in complex, unstructured environments. StereoTales: A Multilingual Framework for Open-Ended Stereotype Discovery in LLMs

Multilingual studies of social bias in open-ended LLM generation remain limited: most existing benchmarks are English-centric, template-based, or restricted to recognizing pre-specified stereotypes. We introduce StereoTales, a multilingual dataset and evaluation pipeline for systematically studying the emergence of social bias in open-ended LLM generation. The dataset covers 10 languages and 79 socio-demographic attributes, and comprises over 650k stories generated by 23 recent LLMs, each annotated with the socio-demographic profile of the protagonist across 19 dimensions. From these, we apply statistical tests to identify more than 1{,}500 over-represented associations, which we then rate for harmfulness through both a panel of humans (N = 247) and the same LLMs. We report three main findings. \textbf{(i)} Every model we evaluate emits consequential harmful stereotypes in open-ended generation, regardless of size or capabilities, and these associations are largely shared across providers rather than isolated misbehaviors. \textbf{(ii)} Prompt language strongly shapes which stereotypes appear: rather than transferring as a shared set of biases, harmful associations adapt culturally to the prompt language and amplify bias against locally salient protected groups. \textbf{(iii)} Human and LLM harmfulness judgments are broadly aligned (Spearman ρ=0.62ρ=0.62), with disagreements concentrating on specific attribute classes rather than specific providers. To support further analyses, we release the evaluation code and the dataset, including model generations, attribute annotations, and harmfulness ratings.

StereoPolicy: Improving Robotic Manipulation Policies via Stereo Perception

Recent advances in robot imitation learning have produced powerful visuomotor policies that manipulate diverse objects from visual inputs. However, monocular observations lack depth information, which is critical for precise manipulation in cluttered or geometrically complex scenes. Explicit depth maps and point clouds are often noisy and fragile in real-world manipulation. We introduce StereoPolicy, a visuomotor policy learning framework that directly leverages synchronized stereo image pairs to improve geometric reasoning without constructing explicit 3D representations. StereoPolicy processes each image with pretrained 2D vision encoders and fuses left-right features through a cross-attention-based Stereo Transformer, capturing spatial correspondence and disparity cues implicitly. The framework integrates with diffusion-based and pretrained vision-language-action (VLA) policies, delivering consistent improvements over RGB, RGB-D, point cloud, and multi-view baselines across three simulation benchmarks and seven real-robot tabletop and bimanual mobile manipulation tasks. Our results show that stereo vision bridges 2D pretrained representations and 3D geometric understanding for robotic manipulation.

Cross-Modal RGB-D Fusion Transformer for 6D Pose Estimation of Non-Cooperative Spacecraft with Stereo-Derived Depth

On-orbit servicing and active debris removal involving non-cooperative spacecraft require reliable pose estimation to supply accurate position and orientation data for autonomous visual navigation. Learning-based monocular methods have seen widespread adoption in spacecraft pose estimation, yet they suffer from an intrinsic depth ambiguity problem and tend to fail under the harsh illumination conditions routinely encountered in orbit. Active depth sensors could in principle address the geometric ambiguity, but their power and mass requirements make them poorly suited to most spacecraft platforms. This work addresses these issues through a passive stereo vision framework for six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) pose estimation of non-cooperative spacecraft. A binocular stereo matching network called TSCA-Stereo is developed to cope with weak-texture surfaces, specular highlights, and severe lighting variations typical of space imagery. A cross-modal fusion Transformer is introduced to combine RGB appearance information with stereo depth features in an adaptive manner, supporting reliable pose recovery. A synthetic binocular multimodal dataset is also built for the experiments, covering stereo disparity maps and 6-DOF pose annotations across a range of illumination scenarios, attitude configurations, and noise levels. Experimental results show that TSCA-Stereo outperforms the baseline across every evaluated metric on this space-specific dataset. The full pose estimation pipeline achieves a mean translation error of 0.0419 m and a mean orientation error of 0.8632° under varied imaging conditions, confirming that the passive stereo approach is both effective and resilient when operating under the demanding visual conditions of the space environment.

Low-Cost Stereo Vision for Robust 3D Positioning of Thin Radiata Pine Branches in Autonomous Drone Pruning

Manual pruning of radiata pine, a species of major economic importance to New Zealand forestry, is hazardous, labour-intensive, and increasingly constrained by workforce shortages. Existing autonomous pruning platforms typically rely on expensive sensors such as LiDAR and are limited to thick branches, which restricts their wider adoption. This paper investigates whether a single low-cost stereo camera mounted on a drone can provide sufficiently accurate branch detection and three-dimensional positioning to support autonomous pruning of branches as thin as 10 mm, thereby removing the need for auxiliary depth sensors. The proposed pipeline comprises two stages: branch segmentation and depth estimation. For segmentation, Mask R-CNN variants and the YOLOv8 and YOLOv9 families are compared on a custom dataset of 71 stereo image pairs captured with a ZED Mini camera; YOLOv8 and YOLOv9 are selected as representative state-of-the-art real-time segmentors at the time of data collection, and the framework is designed to remain compatible with newer YOLO releases. For depth estimation, a traditional method (SGBM with WLS filtering) and deep-learning-based methods (PSMNet, ACVNet, GWCNet, MobileStereoNet, RAFT-Stereo, and NeRF-Supervised Deep Stereo) are evaluated, including cross-dataset fine-tuning experiments that expose the domain gap between urban driving benchmarks and natural forestry scenes. The main novelty of this work lies in coupling stereo segmentation with a centroid-based triangulation algorithm and Median-Absolute-Deviation outlier rejection that converts a segmentation mask and disparity map into a single robust branch-to-camera distance, addressing the challenges of sparse texture, thin structures, and noisy disparity values typical of forest scenes. Qualitative evaluations at distances of 1-2 m show that the learning-based stereo methods produce more coherent depth es...

Stereo Multistage Spatial Attention for Real-Time Mobile Manipulation Under Visual Scale Variation and Disturbances

Robots operating in open, unstructured real-world environments must rely on onboard visual perception while autonomously moving across different locations. Continuous changes in onboard camera viewpoints cause significant visual scale variations in target objects, affecting vision-based motion generation. In this work, we present a stereo multistage spatial attention-based deep predictive learning method for real-time mobile manipulation. The proposed methods extracts task-relevant spatial attention points from stereo images and integrates them with robot states through a hierarchical recurrent architecture for closed-loop action prediction. We evaluate the system on four real-world mobile manipulation tasks using a mobile manipulator, including rigid placement, articulated object manipulation, and deformable object interaction. Experiments under randomized initial positions and visual disturbance conditions demonstrate improved robustness and task success rates compared to representative imitation learning and vision-language-action baselines under identical control settings. The results indicate that structured stereo spatial attention combined with predictive temporal modeling provides an effective solution within the evaluated mobile manipulation scenarios.

3D Reconstruction Techniques in the Manufacturing Domain: Applications, Research Opportunities and Use Cases

This comprehensive review examines the evolution and the current state of the art in three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction techniques in manufacturing applications. The analysis covers both traditional approaches and emerging deep learning methods, showing a critical research gap in unified 3d reconstruction frameworks. Through systematic review of 106 recent publications, we classify reconstruction techniques into three primary categories: data acquisition, point cloud generation, post-processing and applications. Non-contact methods, particularly structured light scanning and stereo vision, have shown significant adoption in manufacturing, with 47% of surveyed applications focusing on quality inspection. The integration of deep learning has enhanced reconstruction accuracy and processing speed, particularly in feature extraction and matching. Key applications span design and development (13%), machining (8%), process (17%), assembly (22%), and quality inspection (40%). While current technologies achieve sub-millimeter accuracy in controlled environments, challenges persist in handling reflective surfaces and dynamic environments. Our findings indicate a trend toward hybrid systems combining multiple sensor types and processing methods to overcome individual limitations. This survey provides a structured framework for understanding current capabilities and future directions in manufacturing-focused 3D reconstruction.

MLG-Stereo: ViT Based Stereo Matching with Multi-Stage Local-Global Enhancement

With the development of deep learning, ViT-based stereo matching methods have made significant progress due to their remarkable robustness and zero-shot ability. However, due to the limitations of ViTs in handling resolution sensitivity and their relative neglect of local information, the ability of ViT-based methods to predict details and handle arbitrary-resolution images is still weaker than that of CNN-based methods. To address these shortcomings, we propose MLG-Stereo, a systematic pipeline-level design that extends global modeling beyond the encoder stage. First, we propose a Multi-Granularity Feature Network to effectively balance global context and local geometric information, enabling comprehensive feature extraction from images of arbitrary resolution and bridging the gap between training and inference scales. Then, a Local-Global Cost Volume is constructed to capture both locally-correlated and global-aware matching information. Finally, a Local-Global Guided Recurrent Unit is introduced to iteratively optimize the disparity locally under the guidance of global information. Extensive experiments are conducted on multiple benchmark datasets, demonstrating that our MLG-Stereo exhibits highly competitive performance on the Middlebury and KITTI-2015 benchmarks compared to contemporaneous leading methods, and achieves outstanding results in the KITTI-2012 dataset.

Bidirectional Cross-Modal Prompting for Event-Frame Asymmetric Stereo

Conventional frame-based cameras capture rich contextual information but suffer from limited temporal resolution and motion blur in dynamic scenes. Event cameras offer an alternative visual representation with higher dynamic range free from such limitations. The complementary characteristics of the two modalities make event-frame asymmetric stereo promising for reliable 3D perception under fast motion and challenging illumination. However, the modality gap often leads to marginalization of domain-specific cues essential for cross-modal stereo matching. In this paper, we introduce Bi-CMPStereo, a novel bidirectional cross-modal prompting framework that fully exploits semantic and structural features from both domains for robust matching. Our approach learns finely aligned stereo representations within a target canonical space and integrates complementary representations by projecting each modality into both event and frame domains. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods in accuracy and generalization.

WAFT-Stereo: Warping-Alone Field Transforms for Stereo Matching

We introduce WAFT-Stereo, a simple and effective warping-based method for stereo matching. WAFT-Stereo demonstrates that cost volumes, a common design used in many leading methods, are not necessary for strong performance and can be replaced by warping with improved efficiency. WAFT-Stereo ranks first on ETH3D (BP-0.5), Middlebury (RMSE), and KITTI (all metrics), reducing the zero-shot error by 81% on ETH3D, while being 1.8-6.7x faster than competitive methods. Code and model weights are available at https://github.com/princeton-vl/WAFT-Stereo.

StereoVLA: Enhancing Vision-Language-Action Models with Stereo Vision

While Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models excel in generalist manipulation, they often lack fine-grained spatial awareness and show limited viewpoint robustness. This limitation largely stems from the reliance on pretrained RGB encoders, which lack explicit geometric cues and prioritize semantic alignment over geometric representation. We argue that effective visual representations for VLA models must jointly encode both semantic and geometric information. In this paper, we introduce StereoVLA, the first VLA model to incorporate rich geometric cues from large-scale synthetic stereo data. StereoVLA employs a Geometric-and-Semantic (GeoSem) vision encoder that extracts geometric cues from subtle stereo-view disparities for precise spatial perception, while simultaneously capturing semantic features from pixel observations to support language-conditioned manipulation. Additionally, we introduce two synergistic co-training objectives: Interaction-Region Depth Estimation for precise spatial reasoning, and Camera Parameter Estimation to implicitly align perception and action coordinate systems. Compared with baselines that employ various input modalities, StereoVLA achieves a 33.4% absolute gain in success rate in real-world experiments and demonstrates robustness to near-hemispheric camera perspectives. Elastic3D: Controllable Stereo Video Conversion with Guided Latent Decoding

The growing demand for immersive 3D content calls for automated monocular-to-stereo video conversion. We present Elastic3D, a controllable, direct end-to-end method for upgrading a conventional video to a binocular one. Our approach, based on (conditional) latent diffusion, avoids artifacts due to explicit depth estimation and warping. The key to its high-quality stereo video output is a novel, guided VAE decoder that ensures sharp and epipolar-consistent stereo video output. Moreover, our method gives the user control over the strength of the stereo effect (more precisely, the disparity range) at inference time, via an intuitive, scalar tuning knob. Experiments on three different datasets of real-world stereo videos show that our method outperforms both traditional warping-based and recent warping-free baselines and sets a new standard for reliable, controllable stereo video conversion. Please check the project page for the video samples https://elastic3d.github.io.

Preserving Guidance in Cost-Volume Retrieval under Extreme LiDAR Sparsity in Iterative Stereo

While accurate LiDAR depth has been shown to improve stereo matching, high-end LiDAR remains costly and difficult to deploy at scale, motivating guidance from sparse LiDAR measurements. In this paper, we revisit how extremely sparse LiDAR can guide iterative stereo by examining its cost-volume retrieval mechanism. Our analysis shows that LiDAR guidance degrades sharply when only a few hundred points are available, and we provide a signal-processing explanation for why iterative stereo fails to fully exploit such sparse input. This insight leads to a simple yet highly effective remedy: pre-filling the initial disparity map so that cost-volume retrieval becomes more reliable under extremely sparse LiDAR. We find that pre-filling is also effective when injecting LiDAR depth into image features via early fusion, but for a fundamentally different reason, necessitating a distinct pre-filling approach. Combining both forms of guidance, our proposed Guided RAFT-Stereo (GRAFT-Stereo) achieves substantial improvements over existing LiDAR-guided stereo methods across multiple datasets.

ESMStereo: Enhanced ShuffleMixer Disparity Upsampling for Real-Time and Accurate Stereo Matching

Stereo matching has become an increasingly important component of modern autonomous systems. Developing deep learning-based stereo matching models that deliver high accuracy while operating in real-time continues to be a major challenge in computer vision. In the domain of cost-volume-based stereo matching, accurate disparity estimation depends heavily on large-scale cost volumes. However, such large volumes store substantial redundant information and also require computationally intensive aggregation units for processing and regression, making real-time performance unattainable. Conversely, small-scale cost volumes followed by lightweight aggregation units provide a promising route for real-time performance, but lack sufficient information to ensure highly accurate disparity estimation. To address this challenge, we propose the Enhanced Shuffle Mixer (ESM) to mitigate information loss associated with small-scale cost volumes. ESM restores critical details by integrating primary features into the disparity upsampling unit. It quickly extracts features from the initial disparity estimation and fuses them with image features. These features are mixed by shuffling and layer splitting then refined through a compact feature-guided hourglass network to recover more detailed scene geometry. The ESM focuses on local contextual connectivity with a large receptive field and low computational cost, leading to the reconstruction of a highly accurate disparity map at real-time. The compact version of ESMStereo achieves an inference speed of 116 FPS on high-end GPUs and 91 FPS on the AGX Orin.
